Abstract Ambivalence is a phenomenon that transcends disciplinary divides and is associated with a myriad of mixed outcomes. Yet, identifying and representing the complexities of ambivalent experiences can be difficult using traditional qualitative methods. Thus, the goal of the present study was to advance a qualitative method, thematic co-occurrence analysis, to address this issue. To illustrate the usefulness of this method, I present a case study detailing 35 estranged adult children’s ambivalent responses and reactions to their parents’ (non)contact during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings reveal seven themes and four (non)relationships between them that reflect (a) theme independence, (b) unilateral co-occurrence, (c) unbalanced co-occurrence, and (d) complementary co-occurrence. These findings advance a theory of ambivalence and corresponding method to aid in the future investigations of ambivalent phenomena.

Typography subject focuses on exploring typefaces using typical software and applying it to an artwork, such as a poster, advertisement, etc. In 2016, Typography 2 applied service-learning for the first time. Students were divided into several groups to make banners for street vendors in Surabaya city. This paper aims to determine the benefits obtained by participants of Typography 2 with the service-learning. In addition, to know the constraints faced as an evaluation of service-learning implementation. This study used qualitative methods, by collecting data from students' reflection on Typography 2 service learning project. The students' reflection consists of the learning they get and the obstacles or constraints. The results from service-learning implementation show many benefits are obtained, both in terms of academic and non-academic. It seems that non-academic benefits reveal more than academic benefits. Obstacles and constraints also faced during the implementation can be a meaningful input for service-learning implementation in the future. Implementation of service-learning in Typography class provides the different type and enriches case study in design subject. It also provides an assertion that service-learning as a method of learning is very good and can be applied in courses or other subject areas.

MicroRNAs are non-coding molecules that play a significant role in the development of the disease. MicroRNAs can act as biomarkers or independently lead to the development of a disease. Due to the large numbers of microRNAs, most of the current works focus on the creation of a new way of microRNA clustering or grouping. Today, there are a huge number of different databases that distribute open microRNAs into groups. The problem is that there is no way to evaluate such databases and created clusters. In this work, we propose a new method for assessing the distribution of microRNAs in a cluster, which in the future can be used to predict new sequential ones capable of causing disease. The proposed method can also be used for a better understanding of the mechanisms of various diseases. Since cardiovascular diseases rank first in terms of the number of deaths, they were chosen as the analyzed ones. The Human microRNA Disease Database was used as an analyzed database in this work. The obtained results show that the proposed method can analyze the created databases and can be used in further practice. The proposed model makes it possible to predict new microRNAs for given diagnoses.
