A high-fat diet can increase lipoprotein levels, total cholesterol, (Low Density Lipoprotein) LDL, and triglycerides. Starfruit has saponin and flavonoid compounds which are expected to reducing LDL cholesterol levels. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of starfruit juice on lowering the blood cholesterol LDL of Wistar rats fed with high-fat diet. Experimental study with post-test only control group design. As many as 24 male white rats from the Wistar strain were divided into 3 groups: negative control groups (K-) that were given standard feed for 28 days; positive control group (K+) who were given a high-fat diet for 28 days; the treatment group (KP) was given a high-fat diet for 28 days and on the 15th day 28th they were given a starfruit juice with a dose of 4ml / 200grBB / day. Day 29 measured LDL cholesterol. The statistic test showed a significant increase in LDL cholesterol levels (p=0.001) in the positive control group (x=12.125±2.642 mg/dL) compared to the negative control group (x=7.625±1.506 mg/dL). There was no significant different the mean cholesterol level of the treatment group (x=11±1.927) compared to the mean LDL cholesterol level of the positive control group (x=12.125±2.642). A high-fat diet significantly increases the mean LDL cholesterol level. Starfruit juice did not significantly reduce LDL cholesterol level.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the cause of 7,3 million death globally in 2008. The main pathophysiology process that leads to CHD is atherosclerosis which is caused by high LDL cholesterol level. The aim of this study was to explore bay leaf and celery leaf infusion effect on reducing LDL cholesterol level in dyslipidemic rat model. The type of this study was true experimental research using wistar rat (Rattus novergicus) as the sample. The rats were induced by high fat diet and PTU for two weeks then each of the group were given either bay leaf infusion, celery leaf infusion, simvastatin (positive control), or aquadest (negative control) for a week. The measurement of LDL level used Friedewald formulation. Data was analyzed using paired sample t test and one way ANOVA. As the result there was a significance reduction on LDL level after treatment with bay leaf (p=0,013) and celery leaf infusion (p=0,035) but there was no significance difference between groups (p=0,293). It was concluded that bay leaf and celery leaf infusion could reduce the LDL level in dyslipidemic wistar rat but there was no difference on the capability of the two different leafs on reducing LDL level. Keywords: dyslipidemia, LDL, bay leaf, celery leaf, wistar rats

Dental procedures produce a large amount of spatter and aerosols that create concern for the transmission of airborne diseases, such as Covid-19. This study established a methodology with the objective of evaluating new associated strategies to reduce the risk of cross-transmission in a health environment by simulating spread of potentially contaminated dispersion particles (PCDP) in the environment. This crossover study, was conducted in a school clinic environment (4 clinics containing 12 dental chairs each). As a positive control group (without barriers), 12 professionals activated at the same time the turbine of dental drill, for one minute, with a bacterial solution (Lactobacillus casei Shirota, 1.5x108 CFU/mL), which had been added in the cooling reservoir of the dental equipment. In the experimental groups, the professionals made use of; a) an individual biosafety barrier in dentistry (IBBD) which consists of a metal support covered by a disposable PVC film barrier; b) a Mobile Unit of Disinfection by Ultraviolet-C, consisting of 8 UV lamps-C of 95W, of 304μW/cm2 of irradiance each, connected for 15 minutes (UV-C) and; c) the association between the two methods (IBBD + UV-C). In each clinic, 56 Petri dishes containing MRS agar were positioned on the lamps, benches and on the floor. In addition, plates were placed prior to each test (negative control group) and plates were also placed in the corridor that connects the four clinics. In the groups without barrier and IBBD + UV-C the passive air microorganisms in Petri dishes was also evaluated at times of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after the end of the dental’s drill activation. The mean (standard deviation) of CFU of L. casei Shirota for the positive control group was 3905 (1521), while in the experimental groups the mean using the IBBD was 940 (466) CFU, establishing a reduction on average, of 75% (p<0.0001). For the UV-C group, the mean was 260 (309) CFU and the association of the use of IBBD + UV-C promoted an overall average count of 152 (257) CFU, establishing a reduction on average of 93% and 96%, respectively (p<0.0001). Considering these results and the study model used, the individual biosafety barrier associated with UV-C technology showed to be efficient strategies to reduce the dispersion of bioaerosols generated in an environment with high rate of PCDP generation and may be an alternative for the improvement of biosafety in different healthy environment.

Renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury contains multiple mechanisms involving an excessive amount of ROS that causes oxidative stress, inflammation, and rapid kidney dysfunction. This work aimed to study the ability of thalixisostere 3f on angiogenesis and antioxidant effect in I/R. There was a significant decrease in VEGF from thalix and modified thalixisostere 3f groups as compared with that of a negative control group (P < 0.001). There was a significant decrease in the mean concentration of MDA in kidney tissue obtained from thalix and thalixisostere 3f groups as compared with that of a positive control group (P < 0.001). There was a significant increase in the mean concentrations of SOD and GSH in kidney tissue of group's thalix and thalixisostere 3f groups as compared with that of a positive control group. We found that thalixisostere 3f is more effective than thalix in inhibiting the expression VEGF as pro-angiogenic factors. Molecular docking study indicated that the proper recognition of the inhibitor thalix-isostere with the conserved amino acid residues at the binding active site of VEGFR2 as one of the important enzymes to be targeted as part of antiangiogenic anticancer.

The pattern and lifestyle of today's society with the presence of an interner facility makes people spend more time sitting out than on exercise and increased consumption of high-fat foods may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. An effective therapy is needed in preventing the occurrence of cardiovascular disease. Hyperbaric oxygen now starts to develop for the treatment of several diseases, which in turn can increase the gene forming antioxidant enzymes and ROS. To determine effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on total cholesterol levels of wistar white rats (Rattusnovergicus) induced bye high fat. The study was carried out in an expeative post test only group control of three groups. One group is given standard feed. All groups induced high-fat diet and standard feed. Of the two groups induced, one group was given hyperbaric oxygen therapy with a dose of 3 x 30 minutes for six days on day 7 at a blood test to determine total cholesterol levels. One way Anova parametric statistic test showed that p = 0.007 < α proved hypothesis that hyperbaric oxygen therapy giving effect to total cholesterol level of white mice of jantangalurist rings induced by high fat diet. Total cholesterol was significantly different between K (-) and K (+) and between K (-) and P. It was found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy had an effect on total cholesterol level dose of 3x30 minutes for six days.

The aim of this study was to compare the vertical fracture resistance of roots obturated with different root canal filling materials and sealers. Crowns of 55 extracted mandibular premolar teeth were removed to provide root lengths of 13 mm. Five roots were saved as negative control group (canals unprepared and unfilled). Fifty root canals were instrumented and then five roots were saved as positive control group (canals prepared but unfilled). The remaining 45 roots were randomly divided into three experimental groups (n=15root/group) and obturated with the following procedures: in group 1, glass ionomer-based sealer and cone (ActiV GP obturation system); in group 2, bioceramic sealer and cone (EndoSequence BC obturation system); and in group 3, roots were filled with bioceramic sealer and cone (Smartpaste bio obturation system). All specimens were tested in a universal testing machine for measuring fracture resistance. For each root, the force at the time of fracture was recorded in Newtons. The statistical analysis was performed by using Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc test. There were no significant differences between the three experimental groups. The fracture values of three experimental and negative control groups were significantly higher than the positive control group. Within the limitations of this study, all materials increased the fracture resistance of instrumented roots.

Dietary protamine can ameliorate hyperlipidemia; however, the protamine-derived active peptide and its hypolipidemic mechanism of action are unclear. Here, we report the discovery of a novel anti-obesity and hypocholesterolemic peptide, RPR (Arg-Pro-Arg), derived from protamine in mice fed a high-fat diet for 50 days. Serum cholesterol levels were significantly lower in the protamine and RPR groups than in the control group. White adipose tissue weight was significantly decreased in the protamine and RPR groups. The fecal excretion of cholesterol and bile acid was significantly higher in the protamine and RPR groups than in the control group. We also observed a significant decrease in the expression of hepatic SCD1, SREBP1, and adipocyte FAS mRNA, and significantly increased expression of hepatic PPARα and adipocyte PPARγ1 mRNA in the protamine group. These findings demonstrate that the anti-obesity effects of protamine are linked to the upregulation of adipocyte PPARγ1 and hepatic PPARα and the downregulation of hepatic SCD1 via SREBP1 and adipocyte FAS. RPR derived from protamine has a crucial role in the anti-obesity action of protamine by evaluating the effective dose of adipose tissue weight loss.

The niacin in energy drinks has metabolic product that cause oxidative stress and liver damage, while the liver damage can be prevented by hepatoprotective agents. Scoparone in Artemisia vulgaris L. can act as a hepatoprotector by its antioxidant effect. This study aimed to investigate the effectivity of Artemisia vulgaris L. extract as a hepatoprotector in wistar hepatocytes induced by niacin. This study used 25 male rats which were divided into 5 groups: normal, the negative control, the positive control, the treatment group I, and II. Treatment was conducted for 28 days. The samples were terminated and the hepatocyte were prepared for histological examination. Histological appearance was catagorized as mild, moderate, and severe damage with or without inflamatory cells activity. The data analysis by Kruskal Wallis showed significant difference (p<0,001). Further analysis by Mann Whitney revealed significantly difference (p<0,05) between normal group and all groups, negative control group and positive control group, and positive control group and treatment group I, but not significantly difference between negative control group and treatment group I, negative control group and treatment group II, positive control group and treatment group II, and between treatment groups. The study concluded that the effectivity of Artemisia vulgaris L. extract has not been proven as a hepatoprotector but further study is needed to draw a definite conclusion. Keywords: energy drink, niacin, Artemisia vulgaris L., hepatoprotector
