In the past few decades, increasingly blistering heat due to climate change has created more illnesses and claimed more lives worldwide, an issue mostly ignored because it's an invisible hazard and hard-to-document disaster. Victims are usually vulnerable populations, including workers exposed on a daily basis to heat, who not only suffer from heat illnesses but also from an exacerbation of existing health problems aggravated by heat and dehydration. Research has proved that heat is a higher risk for female workers, who are affected far more often than their male counterparts. India’s informal economy is dominated by the female workforce and many informal workplaces have minimal welfare facilities including toilets. One of the modifiable factors that influence workplace psychology is the lack of access to a private toilet. To avoid embarrassment or harassment, many women refrain from drinking water during the day in order to limit their trips to the toilet, a potentially deadly strategy during hot seasons which has adverse health consequences. A global trend especially in developing nations evidences a higher number of women entering the workforce. With this trend and rising temperatures, the issue is expected to escalate to significant proportions unless workplace interventions and policy level actions are taken at a national level to protect women workers.

The study analyzed the different factors that are responsible for the harassment of women garment workers in Bangladesh. Three garment factories from Mirpur area under Dhaka district were selected purposively where garment factories are available. The sample consisted of 90 women workers taking 30 randomly from each of the three garment factories. Female workers are mostly employed at the lower category of jobs like operator, finishing helper, polyer etc. These jobs are very monotonous in nature. Because of the nature of their jobs, female workers sometimes lose interest in work and become depressed. A large number of female workers received low and irregular wages which create their job dissatisfaction. Only 22 female workers earned salary between Tk. 2700 to Tk. 3000 per month. Female workers are sexually harassed by their co-workers in the factory or by police or by mastans in the street. Communication problem is a major problem faced by most of the female garment workers. A long distance travel is not only physical strenuous but also mentally stressful. Their overtime rate is very low. Long working hours result in a number of illnesses and diseases like headache, eye trouble, ear ache, musculoskeletal pain etc. Women are exploited easily due to lack of technical knowledge and training. The employers do not pay any heed to this exploitation. Keywords: Garment industry; Women workers; Harassment DOI: 10.3329/jbau.v8i2.7940 J. Bangladesh Agril. Univ. 8(2): 291-296, 2010

The main concern of this paper is the issue of women workers' identity and class consciousness. This investigation is principally based on in-depth interviews with three generations of female factory workers. Extremely unequal power relations between capital and labour is insufficient to explain the more pronounced exploitation of female workers over males. In spite of these women having the potential for collective power, their factory lives have been characterized by treatment in constant violation of labour laws. Low-caste female workers have gone through a process of effeminization which has acted to curb their class identity and limit their scope of action. In the process of caste and class emancipation, the question of gender has been neglected by trade union leaders and politicians. The radicalism of males is built upon women's maintaining of the families – a reality which strongly contradicts hegemonic gender discourses and confuses gender identities.

Restrictions on working hours and pregnancy benefits stipulated in applicable laws help protect the responsibilities of women workers who work at night for their families and ensure their physical security, but this regulation can raise doubts about the safety of women working at night. Protection of female workers has been regulated in the Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower and Decree of the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Article 76. In addition, the regulation is also regulated in the Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia No. Kep 224 / Men / 2003 regulates the obligations of employers who employ female workers or laborers, where the application process is carried out directly by the employer through a work agreement between employers and workers which is then supervised by the authorized agency. The world is currently being faced by a global covid-19 pandemic, including in Indonesia this pandemic is very disturbing to the public. Manpower development must be regulated in such a way that basic rights and protections for workers are fulfilled, especially for women workers so as to create conducive conditions. The purpose of this paper is to find out the policies issued by companies for workers, especially women workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. This writing method is library research, which is a series of research related to library data collection methods, or research where the object of research is excavated through a variety of library information. The results obtained in this paper are that the company policies that terminate employment of women during the Covid-19 pandemic are protected by Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower, the losses caused by the company have not reached 2 years, the company cannot simply terminate the work relationship, Then there needs to be other efforts provided by companies or the government in overcoming the impact of Covid-19 on laid-off workers so that they can limit working time / overtime and workers can be sent home without breaking the work relationship The suggestion is expected that the government should supervise and act decisively against companies that employ female workers.
