The study identified the potential resources and examined the local communities’ attitudes and perception towards outdoor recreation and ecotourism development in the urban fringe Harego and Bededo conserved forest, Ethiopia. Mixed research approach was applied along with descriptive and sequential explanatory design. Questionnaire, interview and personal observations were data gathering instruments. Consequently, 336 respondents were randomly selected while key informants were selected purposefully. Simple descriptive analysis, crosstabs and independent t test has been applied to analyze the quantitative data while the qualitative data was analyzed using interpretative analysis technique. The study revealed that the areas have plethora of fauna and flora resources, amazing landscapes and are huge potentials for outdoor recreation and ecotourism development. More significantly, there is positive attitude and perception from the local people which is important for outdoor recreation and ecotourism, their intentions of direct involvement for the development necessities are also very promising while there is a statistically significant difference between high school and below holders (Mean=18.11, sig. 0.001) and college diploma and above holders (Mean=20.89, sig. 0.001).

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of text lengths on students’ vocabulary and to reveal students’ opinions about their vocabulary development considering text lengths. This study used exploratory sequential mixed method pattern, which combines quantitative and qualitative data gathering techniques and combines research results. The study group constitutes 7th grade students studying at a secondary school in Turkey. Within the scope of the research, “Vocabulary Success Test (VST)” was used as quantitative data gathering tool, and “Structured Feedback Form (SFF)” was used as qualitative data tool. In the quantitative analysis of the research data, considering the structure of the data, t-tests were used in dependent and independent groups using SPSS-PASW Statistics 18. Descriptive analysis technique was used in the qualitative analysis of the research data. According to the results of this research, a statistically significant difference was found between the success scores of the short texts pretests and post-tests of the experimental group; it is concluded that there is no significant difference in long texts. The students in the research group stated that the short and concise texts in the course books increased their motivation towards the course.

The two instruments administered in data gathering (quantitative data) include parent’s rearings scale for students’ parent (within there was a identity of parent’s job), agressiveness scale for students, and interview (qualitative data). Variance analysis 2-stripes (Anava 2-jalur) were applied to analyze the data. The outcome shows the following: (a) there is a significant difference of three parent’s rearings to bring about aggressiveness with F=366.479, standar error p=0.000, and difference average is: authoritarian=69.344; democratic=79.283; permissive=87.862. (b) there is not a significant difference of three parent’s jobs to bring about aggressiveness with F=0.054, standar error p=0.583, and difference average is: entrepreneur=77.632; official civil servant=76.436; military=76.960. From the result of parent’s rearings appeared that permissive is the most influential from all (authoritarian and democratic) to bring about aggressiveness in students of Senior High School of First Muhhammedan, Yogyakarta, and parent’s rearings hasn’t influence to bring about children’s aggressiveness.

This research reports the assessment of pre-service teachers’ reception and attitudes towards virtual laboratory experiments in Life Sciences with the aim of advancing adaptability to digital learning. Using sequential mixed-methods in a quasi-experimental design, 68 pre-service teachers in the 3rd year of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program were surveyed before and after virtual learning interventions. This phase was followed by qualitative data gathering using focus group interviews with all participants. Findings from quantitative data analysis revealed a positive significant difference in pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards virtual laboratory experiments post learning interventions. From qualitative data pre-service teachers found the progression from using only traditional to including virtual experiments was useful in enhancing their conceptual understandings of Life Sciences concepts, convenience, inquiry-based learning, self-directed and autonomous learning. However, pre-service teachers noted that using virtual laboratories did not significantly develop their science process skills and as a result could not replace the experiences in a traditional biology laboratory. The implications of these findings project virtual laboratories as a supporting tool for experimentation in Life Sciences especially within and post the COVID-19 pandemic where issues of social distancing pose a threat to collaborative and inquiry-based science learning. Recommendations from these findings are discussed herein. Keywords: inquiry-based learning, life sciences, pre-service teachers, virtual laboratory experiments

This study aims to determine the spatial distribution of landslide vulnerability and its mitigation in Sungai Pinyuh District Mempawah District. This type of research is qualitative. Data collection methods are observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis, using GIS (Geographic Information System) 10.1 application with weighted tiered quantitative overlay modeling. The results of this study indicate that: 1) The level of landslide susceptibility in Sungai Pinyuh District consists of 3 classes: low (not prone), moderate (prone) and high (very vulnerable). (a) Areas that are not vulnerable are spread throughout the villages in Sungai Pinyuh District. (b) Areas with moderate level of vulnerability (vulnerable) are spread in Galang Village (0.24%), Nusapati Village (1.74%), Peniraman Village (3.22%), Sungai Pinyuh Village (1.18%), and Sungai Purun Kecil Village (0.11%). (c) Areas with a high level of vulnerability (very vulnerable) are only found in Peniraman Village, which has 223 ha or 1.15% of the total area of Sungai Pinyuh District. 2) the location of the observation points shows that there are seven points selected, including six points with a level of vulnerability and one point with a very vulnerable level, then of the seven have different land use characteristics.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify whether the complementary remote speech-language-hearing follow-up is an effective tool in the monitoring of cochlear implant users in the immediate postoperative period. Methods: a total of 26 relatives participated in the study, divided into two groups: with and without remote speech-language-hearing follow-up. By the time the device was activated, they were given instructions on four subjects: the device, family, school, and speech-language-hearing therapy. After one week, the group with remote speech-language-hearing follow-up started receiving such care via mobile phone. In the in-person follow-up visit, a questionnaire was administered (containing questions on the guidance given), as well as an interview with the parents/guardians that received the remote follow-up. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed with Fisher’s exact test, with 5% significance. The qualitative data were analyzed based on Bardin’s theme content analysis technique. Results: there was a significant difference in the quantitative results between the groups regarding “device” and “school”. In the qualitative data, it was verified that the remote speech-language-hearing follow-up furnished greater assurance to the relatives of the cochlear implant users, helping them in the therapeutic process and at school. Conclusion: the complementary remote speech-language-hearing follow-up proved to be an effective tool in the subjects researched, especially regarding the handling of the device and guidance to school.
