Even in 2013, this Islamic boarding school is linked again with the arrest of terrorist Anton whois allegedly an alumnus of Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School. After the bombing of Thamrin on January 14, 2016, Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School is indicated by the National Agency for Combating Terrorism (BNPT) as one of radical Islamic boarding schools. The question is whether Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School is really a source of radicalism. To answer that question, wesee two aspects of Pesantren Nurussalam namely its education method and religious understanding. Through qualitative method, it is found that Pesantren Nurussalam education system generally refers to the national education system plus Islamic education system adopted from Gontor and Ngruki models. The educational system built is not separated from the religious understanding ofthe founders and managers who understand salaf, more precisely salaf puris cooperationis. Although it adheres to Salaf, Pesantren Nurussalam refusesto be categorized as radical Islamic boarding school.AbstractPesantren Nurussalam Ciamis is often associated with the movement of Abu Bakar Ba’asyir who was caught in Banjar in August 2010. Teaching about global development challenges is a complex and demanding process both for students and teachers. In this article, I examine the potential of postcolonial pedagogies in facilitating the process of learning to unlearn and in developing learners’ agency in reading the world. I focus on two teaching encounters to examine the potential of postcolonial pedagogies; one is a Sustainable Development module, part of a degree programme in formal higher education and the second teaching encounter are preparatory sessions for overseas volunteers. This paper examines the process and implications of utilising postcolonial pedagogies in these settings and is written from my perspective as a self-reflexive teacher and researcher. This form of teaching and learning raises three particular tensions for me: structural concerns in the Irish education system, pedagogical questions as well as personal implications for me as a teacher and my knowledge base. This article concludes with a summary of these identified tensions, outlining continuing questions rather than presenting solutions. Teaching about global development challenges is difficult, challenging and emotional work, demanding vigilance and reflexivity by the teacher.

It adheres to the same patriarchal norms and codes of education where students are so much overloaded with assignments, class tests and major exams. In this situation, they forget the real meaning of life. The education is for life and not only for securing a job. Every student tries to learn their subjects by heart but the system is not working very well. The students have to mug up their subject. Today’s new generation always comments regarding their study and they always blame the educational system
