Effect of rejected Eucheuma cottonii level in complete feed on nutrient intake and digestion, blood metabolites, and body weight gain of early weaning Bali calves

Effect of rejected Eucheuma cottonii level in complete feed on nutrient intake and digestion, blood metabolites, and body weight gain of early weaned Bali calves was studied. Twelve Bali calves aged 4 months with average early body weight 40 kg and standard error 1.3 kg were used in this experiment. Completely randomized design was applied with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were CT0 (complete feed without Eucheuma cottonii, CT5 (complete feed plus Eucheuma cottonii 5%), CT10 (complete feed plus Eucheuma cottonii 10%), and CT15 (complete feed plus Eucheuma cottonii 15%). The results on nutrient intake indicated that there were no significantly differences (p>0.05) among treatments by Bali calves. There were also no significant differences (p>0.05) of treatments on crude protein and fiber digestibility, however, digestibility of DM, OM, EE, and NFE were same among 5, 10, and 15 % level of rejected E. cottonii in complete feed. There were significantly different (p<0.05) of treatments on blood urea, glucose, protein, Mg, and K of Bali calves. Providing rejected E. cottonii 15% in the complete feed produced generally the highest blood urea, glucose, protein, Mg, and K of Bali calves. There were no significantly different (p>0.05) of treatments on body weight gain and body linear measures of Bali calves. It was concluded that 1) dry matter and other nutrient intake were the same between early weaned Bali calves consumed complete feed with or without rejected E. cottonii, 2) digestibility of DM, OM, EE, and NFE of complete feed differed among treatments. The lowest digestibility of DM, OM, EE, and NFE were at early weaned Bali calves consumed complete feed without rejected E. cottonii. Digestibility of CP and CF were same among early weaned Bali calves consumed both with and without rejected E. cottonii, 3) blood urea, glucose, protein, Mg, and K concentration differed among treatments. The lowest blood urea, glucose, protein, Mg, and K concentration were at early weaned Bali calves consumed complete feed without rejected E. cottonii. The highest blood urea, glucose, protein, Mg, and K concentration were general at early weaned Bali calves consumed complete feed with 15% rejected E. cottonii, 4) daily body weight gain and linear body measures were same among early weaned Bali calves consumed both with or without rejected E. cottonii.

The objective of study was to determine the effect of calf starter in the pre-weaning calves against the daily body weight gain. Twenty Ongole grade (PO) calves age of 1 month divided into 4 treatment groups of feed, 5 calves for each treatment. Treatment (P1) fed with extra soybean groats; (P2) soybean groats 50% + Gliricidia 50%; (P3) soybean groats 50%+ rice bran 50%; (P4) soybean groats 50%+ rejected bread 50%. Calf starter was given at age 1 month to 3 months. Observation was carried out on calves daily weight gain. This experiment was designed in Completely Randomized Design. Data was  analyzed by analysis of variance and continued Least Significant Difference Test. Statistical analysis showed that feed of (P <0.05) significantly affected the daily weight gain of the calves. Results of the study can be concluded that calf starter with soya groats provide the best daily weight gain of pre-weaning calf.

The aim of the study was to know the effect of Curcuma xanthorhiza as herbal feed additive on feed consumption, daily body weight gain and feed conversion ratio of Kampung Unggul Balitnak (KUB) Chicken. The research was conducted at Kemukus Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung Regency. The experimental used 80 unisex KUB chicken aged 5 week. They were feed a ration with control ration + 0% temulawak flour (P0), control ration + 0,1% temulawak flour (P1), control ration + 0,2% temulawak flour (P2) and control ration + 0,3% temulawak flour (P4) during 30 days. The control ration containing 21% crude protein and 3150 kcal/kg metabolism energy. The study used a quantitative method with completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replications. The results showed that the addition of temulawak flour (Curcuma xanthoriza) up to 0.3% did not effect (P> 0.05) on feed consumption but was affected (P <0.05) on daily body weight gain and feed conversion ratio. The study aimed to determine the effect of daily body weight gain (PBBH) in mice given feed containing commercial feed mix maggot flour. The material used in the study was 60 mice that were not differentiated by gender. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with unidirectional pattern. The provision of maggot flour in commercial feed was divided into four types of treatment. Each treatment level received three replications, with each replication consisting of 5 mice. If there was an influence on the treatment, the Duncan Multiple Range Test was performed. The followings were the treatments used in the study: P0: 100% commercial feed without maggot flour, P1: commercial feed 95% + 5% maggot flour, P2: commercial feed 90% + 10% maggot flour, P3: commercial feed 85% + 15% maggot flour. The research lasted for approximately 30 days, starting from September 4 to October 6, 2020, at the Basic Laboratory of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Islamic University of Lamongan. The results showed a significant effect between treatments (P <0.05) and (P <0.01). The best treatment resulted in the increase of daily body weight gain (PBBH) was P1 (0.35 gr / head / day ± 0.10), P0 (0.29 gr / head / day ± 0.05), P3 (0.20 gr / head / day ± 0.08) , P2 (0.10 gr / head / day ± 0.05). This study concludes that the application of mixed maggot flour as feed to the growth of mice's body weight is the addition of 95% of commercial feed and 5% of maggot flour.

The objective of the study was to evaluate feeding effect of microparticle protein derived from soybean meal and fish meal combined with Lactobacillus sp. at 1.2 mL on physiological condition of digestive tract and productivity of broiler. Total of 192 broiler, with initial body weight was 481.0 ± 67.2 g, given dietary treatment starting on day 21 until day 42. The experiment was assigned in a completely randomized design with 8 treatments and 4 replications. Dietary treatment were 21% intact protein (T0), 18% intact protein (T1), 21% microparticle protein (T2), 18% microparticle protein (T3), T0+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T4), T1+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T5), T2+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T6), T3+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T7). Parameters measured were total ileal lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Coliform and pH, rate of passage, daily body weight gain (DWG) and also carcass weight. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and followed by Duncan multiple range test (P<0.05). Experimental results showed that microparticle protein diet added with Lactobacillus sp. (P<0.05) increased total LAB and DWG, but decreased Coliform population, and slowed down the rate of passage. However, carcass weight was not significantly affected by treatments. Feeding microparticle protein (18%) with addition of Lactobacillus sp. (1.2 mL) can improve to be better condition of digestive tract based on higher LAB and lower Coliform populations, and increase daily body weight gain with the same carcass weight.

ABSTRAKPenggunaan acidifier baik organik atau sintetis dapat meningkatkan optimalisasi nutrien di dalam saluran pencernaan.  Optimalisasi nutrien diharapkan dapat meningkatkan performa ternak khususnya puyuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan dua macam acidifier terhadap performa puyuh fase grower. 100 ekor unsexed puyuh (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) fase grower umur 14-40 hari digunakan dalam penelitian yang menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan lima perlakuan dan empat ulangan. Bahan pakan yang digunakan adalah jagung kuning, dedak, konsentrat puyuh komersil, sari belimbing wuluh, dan asam sitrat sintetis. Perlakuan yang dicobakan terdiri dari perlakuan kontrol (P0), penggunaan 0,3% asam sitrat sintetis (P1), penggunaan 0,25% sari belimbing wuluh (P2), penggunaan 0,6% asam sitrat sintetis (P3), dan penggunaan 0,5% sari belimbing wuluh (P4). Variabel yang diamati adalah konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan dan konversi ransum mingguan. Penggunaan sari belimbing wuluh memiliki konsumsi pakan yang lebih rendah  (P<0,05) pada minggu pertama dibanding kontrol dan asam sitrat sintetis.  Penggunaan asam sitrat sintetis meningkatkan pertambahan bobot badan pada minggu pertama (P<0,05). Penggunaan asam sitrat sintetis nyata dapat menurunkan konversi pakan minggu ke tiga dan empat dibanding kontrol dan asam organik belimbing wuluh. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu penggunaan sari belimbing wuluh sebagai acidifier belum menunjukkan perbaikan performa yang signifikan sedangkan penggunaan asam sitrat sintetis memiliki performa yang lebih baik dibanding perlakuan kontrol dan penggunaan sari belimbing wuluh.Kata kunci: acidifier, asam sitrat, belimbing wuluh, puyuh fase growerABSTRACTThe organic and synthetic acidifiers could improve the optimization of nutrients utilization in the quail digestive tract. Furthermore, the optimization of nutrients is expected to improve quail performance. This study was aimed to determine the effect of using two types of acidifiers (Averrhoa bilimbi juice and synthetic citric acid) on the grower phase of quail performance. Total of 100 unsexed quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) grower phase aged 14-40 days were used in this research and designed as a completely randomized design of five treatments and four replications. Feed ingredients used were yellow corn, rice bran, commercial quail concentrate, Averrhoa bilimbi juice (organic acidifier), and synthetic citric acid. The treatments consisted of control (P0), 0.3% synthetic citric acid (P1), use of 0.25% Averrhoa bilimbi juice (P2), use of 0.6% synthetic citric acid (P3), and use of 0.5% Averrhoa bilimbi juice (P4). The variables observed were weekly feed intake, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The result showed that utilization of Averrhoa bilimbi juice has lower feed consumption (P<0.05) in the first week compare to control and synthetic citric acid, and synthetic citric acid utilization increases body weight gain in the first week (P<0.05). The use of synthetic citric acid significantly reduces feed conversion in the third and fourth weeks compared to control and organic acid groups. The conclusion of this study is the utilization of Averrhoa bilimbi juice as an acidifier has not shown significant improvements in quail performance. The use of synthetic citric acid has a better performance compared to control and Averrhoa bilimbi juice utilization.Keywords: acidifier, organic acidifier, citric acid, growing quail

EFFECT OF REPLACEMENT OF CORN WITH SORGUM Cv. KAWALI IN PELLET RANSUM ON LOCAL RABBIT PERFORM. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of substitution corn with sorghum in rabbit rations on feed consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion. The duration of the study was 28 days using 20 local rabbits. The statistical design used in this study was a completely randomized design, with 4 (four) treatment rations and 5 (five) replications. The four experimental rations, namely R0: 45% corn + 0% sorghum, R1: 30% corn + 15% sorghum, R2 15% corn + 30% sorghum, R3 0% corn + 45% sorghum. Variables were measured, viz: feed consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion. The results showed that the average of feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion, were: 28.27–30.59 g /head /day, 15.76–21.55 g / head /day, and 1.42-1.80 g /head /day, respectively. Based on the analysis of variance, the treatments ration had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on consumption, but had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on body weight gain and feed conversion. The LSD test showed that all treatment rations using sorghum (R1, R2, and R3) gave results of body weight gain which were very significantly different (P <0.01) and higher than R0. Whereas, on ration conversion, treatments R1, R2, and R3 give very different results (P <0.01) lower than R0. It is concluded that the substitution of corn with sorghum at the level of 45% in the ration gives the highest results for body weight gain and conversion of rations for rabbits. Keywords: corn, sorghum, ration, performance, local rabbit

Twelve microsatellite markers on chromosome 6 were analyzed in German Holstein population to detect and locate QTL affecting daily body weight gain (DBWG). The results indicate promising location for QTL controlling daily body weight gain trait on chromosome 6. Where, three markers BMS2508 BM3026 and TGLA37 at three different positions in a distance 15.2 cM on BTA6 were associated with significant effects for daily body weight gain trait (DBWG). Comparison between this finding and previously identified QTL support the location of a QTL for growth traits on chromosome 6, where a significant QTL for birth and yearling weight was previously identified on chromosome 6 tightly close to marker BM3026. Finding from this study could be used in subsequent fine-mapping work and applied to marker-assisted selection (MAS) of production traits.

ABSTRAK. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi kinerja pertumbuhan sapi persilangan Belgian Blue (BB) dan sapi Peranakan Ongole (PO) pada turunan pertama (F1). Sapi persilangan (BB dan PO) yang digunakan sebanyak 15 ekor terdiri atas jantan 6 ekor dan betina 9 ekor, selain itu digunakan 8 ekor sapi PO betina yang dipelihara di Balai Embrio Ternak (BET) Cipelang Bogor. Peubah yang diamati adalah bobot lahir (BW), bobot sapih (WW) 205 hari, bobot 1 tahun (YW), pertambahan bobot badan harian dari lahir (GBW) sampai sapih (GWW) dan pertambahan bobot badan harian dari sapih (GWW) sampai umur 1 tahun (GYW). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan perbedaan antar sapi silangan (BB-PO) dengan sapi PO dilakukan uji t. Hasil analisis bobot badan dan pertumbuhan menunjukkan bahwa, bobot badan sapi silangan BB dan PO lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan sapi PO pada WW 205 hari (165,2±21,3 kg dan 115±15,2 kg), YW (365 hari) (240,7±28,1 kg dan 194,9±26,1 kg) dan GBW sampai GWW (0,675±0,097 kg dan 0,441±0,059 kg). BW dan GWW sampai GYW tidak berbeda antara sapi silangan BB-PO dengan PO. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa program cross-breeding sapi BB dengan PO dapat meningkatkan kinerja bobot badan dan pertumbuhan.  (Growth performance evaluation of belgian blue and ongole crossbreed) ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the growth performance of cross-breeding of Belgian Blue (BB) and Ongole Grade (PO) cattle in the first generation (F1). Crossbred of BB and PO cattle used as many as 15 individuals consisting of 6 males and 9 females, also, 8 individual PO females are used which are kept in the Livestock Embryo Center (BET) Cipelang, Bogor. The observed variables were birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW) 205 days, 1-year weight (YW) 365 days, daily body weight gain from birth (GBW) to weaning (GWW) and daily body weight gain from weaning (GWW) until the age of 1 year (GYW). Data were analyzed descriptively and the difference between cross-breeding (BB-PO) cattle and PO cattle was analyzed by t-test. The results of body weight and growth analysis showed that crossbred BB and PO cattle were higher than PO cattle at WW 205 days (165.2 ± 21.3 kg and 115 ± 15.2 kg), YW (365 days) (240.7 ± 28.1 kg and 194.9 ± 26.1 kg ) and GBW to GWW (0.675 ± 0.097 kg and 0.441 ± 0.059 kg). BW and GWW to GYW do not differ between crossbred BB-PO and PO cattle. The results of this study indicate that the cross-breeding program for BB cattle with PO cattle breeds can improve the performance of body weight and growth.

Abstract In the United States, bioethanol is generated from corn and biodiesel from soybean oil to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels. Ethanol production generates DDGS, high in bypass protein and soluble carbohydrates, which can be used as a cheaper alternative replacement for corn and soybean. This experiment was conducted to evaluate voluntary feed intake, body weight gain and blood metabolites of lambs fed legume-based diets supplemented with corn and soybean meal or dried distillers grain with solubles (DDGS). Animals were individually housed in pens (1.52 mx 1.52 m) under a modified carport shed with woodchips as bedding. They were stratified into four groups (n = 9) with similar weights and standard deviation and randomly assigned to four treatments. The lambs were fed ground sericea hay (SL) or alfalfa meal (ALF) with either corn and soybean meal (control) or DDGS for 60 days. Treatments were SLC, SLDDGS, ALFC and AFLDDGS. The lambs were fed ad libitum based on their selected treatment and given water daily. At the end of the 60 days, weights and blood samples were collected. Plasma samples were analyzed for blood urea nitrogen (BUN), glucose and non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA). Data were analyzed using Proc Mix Procedure of SAS. Results indicated that replacing corn with DDGS did not (P &gt; 0.05) affect voluntary feed intake, final live weight and carcass weight. Blood NEFA and glucose were not affected by dietary treatments. BUN increased in lambs fed alfalfa with corn and soybean meal compared to animals fed either legume supplemented with DDGS. Similarly animals fed sericea have lower (P &lt; 0.05) BUN (19 vs 23 mg/dL) when corn and soybean meal were replaced with DDGS. DDGS can be used in legume diets for growing lambs in replacement for corn and soybean meal.
