<p class="Abstract"><em>Study in thematic architectural design studios for undergraduate students requires the participants to be able to convey the image and the meaning behind it through architectural design. Skills on comprehensive design process and utilization of appropriate methods are determine the success on implementing architectural meanings through design theme. This research aims to find exploring ideas methods which are effective be </em><em>used to</em><em> for generate thematic concepts. The research uses qualitative strategies to examine the processes and products outcomes of studio participant’s study that are controlled through design theories which studied by them. It was concluded that analogic design method is an effective category to be used, both analogy by sources inside architecture field and outside. Both analogy of form, meaning, and image. In addition, the level of diversity and depth understanding of design methods also influence the success of architectural design by themes.</em></p>

Can computers make our designs more intelligent and better informed? This is the implication of the theme of the special issue. Architectural design is often thought of as the design of the object, and design models of architecture seek to explicate this process. As an architect, however, I cannot subscribe to that view. In this particular article, I will explore how computational approaches have illuminated and expanded my work to enable the interaction of these themes across scores of projects. Underpinning the projects are foundational concepts: design is real, complex, inclusive, emergent and evil. Design is grounded in reality and facts, that we can derive design outcomes from a deep and unblemished understanding of the world around us. It is not a stylistic escape. Reality is complex. Architectural design has sought to simplify. This was inescapable when projects are so large yet need to be communicated succinctly. ‘Less is more’ justified this approach. In town planning, this is evident in the tool of zoning. Parse the problem and then address each piece. What we do is part of a larger effort. The field of architecture seeks distinction. Design theories want to distinguish and elevate architecture. But if design is complex and it is real, then it is tied to messy realism. Designing has to become accessible to other realms of knowledge. Designing is the seeking of opportunity. For many, design is simply finding the answer – think of Herbert Simon’s statement that design is problem solving. Design reveals opportunities, and these emergent conditions are to be grasped. As designers, our decisions have implications. We know now that what we build has future implications in ways that are profound. When we define design as problem solving, we ignore the truth that design is problem making.

 Architectural design theories developed during the last decades of the 20th century - including Environmental Psychology and Pattern Theories - aimed to improve the quality of the built environment while centred on the experience of users. However, their approaches of analytical methodologies are not usually applied to understand and comprehend historic buildings from a wider architectural perspective. This study aims to deepen the analysis of historic buildings by advancing their depictions using concepts and ideas mainly established in pattern theories and contemporary best practices, in order to facilitate how modern designers may learn from the significant buildings of the past. To achieve this, a knowledge-based descriptive framework has been developed; this tool serves to enrich the architectural description of a building by including both qualitative and quantitative details, abstract and as-built characteristics, and spatial patterns which are inherent to architectural designs. Four historical palatial complexes erected in the Iberian Peninsula during the Islamic rule in al-Andalus have been selected to demonstrate the practical application and validity of this tool. The information collected through such a descriptive tool adds a layer of quantitative information that enriches the depiction of the historic buildings studied. An organized display of the resulting data provides for comparative analysis and also serves as a way to develop contemporary architectural proposals which reflect distinctive features of significant historical buildings.

In the theme park and the mass media programs become more and more stylized today, sports reflect the dramatic value it unpredictable. Sports games and TV can create has shocks the strength of scene, and this "reality" becomes the unpredictable nature of the carrier, it can obtain immeasurable business value and city culture of success. Sports buildings to become the new urban symbol, and obtained the original town hall, only a! J galleries and museums can obtain the attention. From twentieth Century the western city construction development history can be seen, city image and city planning and architectural design has great relevance. But the city image seems are always as city construction activities, products, changes with the design theories and ideas vary products. City image is stuck in the design concept of level of city image building.

This research focuses on the emergency-housing demand caused by the on-going refugee crisis in Southeastern Europe. The research and proposed solutions focus on Northern Serbia, as this region generally lacks permanent housing solutions for accommodating the increasing influx of immigrants. The outcome of this research is an architectural proposal for the refugee housing unit designed particularly for the situational factors of this focus region.    The study identifies earth architecture as the primary building technique, due to its ability to satisfy a range of defined end-product goals.  These goals include: the sustainability of the material, quality and durability of the final product, skill level required for non-professional construction, final cost of material and execution, historical regional precedent, and opportunity for communal engagement of the immigrant population. The proposed architectural design uses earth-bag construction as the sub-method most suitable for this location and in keeping with the goals outlined above. The proposed housing unit is a singular component that could be duplicated to create larger communal housing communities.  A broad overview of possible solutions is included, followed by the development of the earth-bag construction option. The development of this proposal includes material studies, sketches, and an architectural model as representation tools. The outcomes of this research serve as a guideline, rather than a precise construction model, in creating much needed refugee housing communities in North Serbia.

The article describes content of original and relevant but virtually forgotten thesis of V.V. Voronov on lighting of production site interiors by means of overhead natural (using three types of skylights) and artificial illumination, in order to elaborate scientific methodology for architectural design of more qualitative luminous environment on the basis of comprehensive approach and enhanced criteria framework of its evaluation using light engineering parameters. The thesis is unique in terms of the scope and quality of field and laboratory observations which are reflected not only in the text but also in the graphical attachments, namely photos, figures, schemes, drawings, charts, nomograms, and diagrams accompanied by specific measured or calculated parameters. The first part of the thesis contains theoretical basics and results of field observations conducted by different methods. This second part is the exposition of chapter 3 of the V.V. Voronov’s candidate thesis (1985). It describes the methodology for and the results of the experiments by means of planar and volumetric light simulation using the architectural lighting simulating assembly (chamber) which were conducted in MARKHI in 1970–1985.

This paper explains the idea of inception space from Inception (2010), a movie directed by Christopher Nolan, to explore the inception space potential in designing architectural space. Inception space is an architectural space design mechanism that translates the essential experience of space users as an effort to implant idea in the form of positive emotions. In other words, the architectural space is a medium of inception to a space user or a target (mark). The main purpose of inception space design is to affect the target (mark) by planting the idea ‘secretly’. The target is unaware of the intervention and considers the idea presented itself. This process becomes the beginning of an idea to grow in one's mind the beginning of mindset and behavior change. In other words, architects or planners can apply this mechanism to design and influence users so that the design success rate can be improved. The main design keywords as part of the inception process are perception, memory, scenario, layer, and labyrinth. The development of design methods of inception space can be explored and applied to different targets and contexts by applying these design keywords. For example, this design mechanism can be applied to people with dementia who experience memory and visuospatial deficit through wayfinding programming.
