The purpose of our study was to determine the intensity of dental caries and the level of oral hygiene in boys and girls, depending on age and conducting remineralizative therapy in the observed group of children with the aim of prevention of dental caries. The study was carried out with the informed consent of parents of examining children. We carried out dental examination of 60 schoolchildren in Vinnytsya, aged 6–8 years old, who were divided into two even groups, near 30 persons in evey group who was provided remineralizative therapy of dental hard tissue using the preparation “Bifluorid 10” VOCO (Germany). In the article the clinical discussion of high efficiency of preventive remineralizative therapy of dental hard tissues in children 6-8 years is presented. According to the results of the primary examination in the observed children, it was found that the average of oral hygiene index of Fedorova-Volodkina was 2.3±0.16 scores in the main group and 2.31±0.13 scores in the control group, which indicates an unsatisfactory level of oral hygiene in both groups. Dental caries was determined in 100% of cases among the examined children, caries intensity indexes DMFT+df were corresponded to 5.57±1.04 in the main group and 5.7±0.95 in the control group. The intensity of the color of the TER-test in the basic observation was — 3.88±0.75 in the main group and 4.19±0.91 the control group. The oral hygiene index slightly increased after 12 months of research. In children of the main group it was 1.52±0.12 and 1.58±0.15 in the control group, which corresponds to satisfactory oral hygiene. However, in general, during the period of our investigation, the oral hygiene index was significantly improved in comparing to the primary scores on 33.9% in the main group and on 31.64% in the control group. The index of growth of caries intensity was — 7 (23%) in the control group and in the main group — 1 (3.3%) in the main one. The parameters of the TER test were within the range of 2.1±0.3 scores in the basic and 3.93±0.7 scores in the control groups, which corresponds to the improvement of the mineralization of the dental hard tissue (p <0.05). Consequently, the problem of high dental caries intensity and caries prevalence of primary and permanent teeth suggests about cariogenic situation in the oral cavity of children during the period of the eruption of the first permanent molars. Professional oral hygiene, the formation of regular oral hygienic habits, deep fluoridation using the Bifluorid 10 VOCO (Germany), not only improve the oral hygiene status, but also reduce the growth index of dental caries and have a high efficiency of prevention of dental caries.

Objectives: The goal of the present study correlates dental hard tissue mineralization, mucosal pathologies in the oral cavity and different degrees of intestinal dysbiosis. Study Design: the study examined two groups: the study group (Group I) included 229 children and adolescents aged 1–17 (mean age 5±1years) with oral pathologies (caries, acute or chronic candidiasis) and confirmed dysbiosis of varying severity and stages as well. Group II (the Control Group) was composed of 50 patients aged 1 – 16 (mean age 5±1years) with oral pathologies but with no detected changes in gastrointestinal (GI) flora. Dental caries were examined by DMFT-index; the extent of dental hard tissue mineralization by vital staining (2% methylene blue) and cases of oral candidiasis was investigated by taking cultures from mucosal plaques. Results: on the basis of the research outcomes the correlation between the different degrees of GI dysbiosis and dental hard tissue mineralization with pathologic expressions in the oral cavity was found. Group I was divided into two subgroups: in the first subgroup that suffered from mild dysbiosis (I and II degree) moderate dental caries was revealed, whereas in the second subgroup with III and IV degree of dysbiosis–high levels of dental caries was detected. In Group II (no GI flora disturbances), the dental hard tissue demineralization indicator was minimal; in children aged 1–3 years the incidence and prevalence of caries were low and increased with age, reaching higher values during puberty (11–16 years). Conclusion: It may be concluded that dysbiosis of GI microflora influences on a degree of dental hard tissue demineralization, which in turn may predispose to the formation of dental caries.

The defeat teeth multiple caries leads to their premature loss, violates the chewing function, which affects the development of the dental system in the period of formation of permanent teeth and leads to the formation of anomalies of maxillofacial area. In experiment were 30 white rats of both sexes and 30 three months white rat pups with a healthy, without pathologically changed tissues of the teeth and periodontium. In experiments on rats 35-day monitoring damaged by caries white rats showed that when using liquid with a positive redox potential is reduction of the area of the zones carious lesions on the 14th day – by 23%, 21 day – 41%, at 28 days – 59%, 35 day – 69%. The remaining liquid didn’t cause changes in the dimensions of zones of caries in time. For long (8 weeks) oral use a white rat pups liquids with negative redox potential and the subsequent 30-day getting glucoso-lactose diet the incidence of dental caries was only 3% in the control group 86%. The article shows that the liquids with positive and negative redox potential doesn’t have a damaging effect on the mucous membrane of the mouth cavity and the hard tissue of teeth, however optimize the recovery processes in case of chronic generalized periodontitis moderate.

The aim: To study the clinical efficciency of the proposed scheme of gingivitis treatment in women with physiological course of pregnancy. Materials and methods: Clinical approbation of the proposed complex of therapeutic and prophylactic measures was carried out in 32 pregnant women with gingivitis, aged 18 to 35 years. The efficiency of the treatment was assessed by the dynamics of the clinical picture, the index assessment of an oral hygiene and the periodontium condition in each trimester of pregnancy. Results: According to the data of performed observations, the high efficiency of the proposed treatment scheme is shown: 84.4% in the main group versus 46.9% in the control group. It has been clinically proven that the proposed scheme of inflammatory periodontal diseases treatment in terms of therapeutic efficiency exceeds the generally accepted basic treatment. Conclusions:The use of the proposed complex of therapeutic and prophylactic measures in the main group of patients contributed to the elimination of the inflammatory process in the periodontal tissues, suspended the progression of existing diseases, made it possible to prevent the emergence of new nosological forms, improved the condition of the oral hygiene, which makes it possible to recommend it for treatment of periodontal diseases in pregnant women.

The article is devoted to the study of the intensity, prevalence of dental caries and oral hygiene indices among younger schoolchildren, against the background of a complex of preventive measures and dental education, which was carried out on an individual and group level in the conditions of a school dental office, and health lessons in classes. The dental study involved 106 primary schoolchildren, including 54 boys (51%) and 52 girls (49%) aged 7–8 years, who were examined on the basis of the dental office of the school №176 of Nizhny Novgorod. The children were divided into 2 groups: 1 – prevention group and 2 – control group. In 1 group of children every three months during the year we carried out professional oral hygiene, then treatment of all teeth with a deep fluoridation and training in the standard method of brushing teeth on models in a dental office. In addition, for children of group 1, we organized health lessons with training in the standard method of brushing teeth in the classroom, the use of additional hygiene products for the oral cavity in children of this age and the demonstration of a cartoon about dental caries. In the control group a set of preventive measures was also carried out in the form of professional oral hygiene and application of all teeth with the drug Gluftored, training in the standard method of brushing teeth on models every three months during the year, but dental education in the form of health lessons in the classroom was not. According to the clinical examination of 7–8 year’s children, it was revealed that during regular preventive measures and dental education among younger schoolchildren, the development of caries for permanent teeth is not observed, oral hygiene is improved, and dental health is rising.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of dental caries in patients with cleft lip and/or palate and their cleft-free sibling controls. Methods: The two subject groups (patient and control) comprised 106 participants. The former group consisted of 53 patients with cleft lip and/or palate, aged 12 to 29 years, who visited the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Hospital at Damascus University of Syria. The control group consisted of the patients’ siblings who had no clefts, and they were sex matched to the patient group. Dental caries were examined clinically and were reported using the decayed, missing, and filled permanent teeth (DMFT) index. The DMFT scores were compared between the two groups. Results: The author found an overall association of dental caries with the presence of cleft lip and/or palate (odds ratio  =  2.52; 95% confidence interval  =  1.389–4.574; p < .05). The DMFT index scores were proportionally higher in patients with cleft lip and/or palate compared with the control group (p < .001). Conclusion: Subjects with cleft lip and palate are susceptible to dental caries independently of socioeconomic status.

Summary Background/Aim: The chemical nature of soft drinks is acidic, so they possess the capacity to cause hard tissue erosion. The aim of this study is to assess the potentially erosive effect linked to pH and titratable acidity of some common soft drinks on dental hard tissues in prolonged time exposure. Material and Methods: Seven types of soft drinks in Romanian market were selected for this study. The pH and Titratable acidity were determined. Twenty one human dental hard tissue specimens were immersed in 5 ml solution each for 336h. Every 48h weight loss was determined for each specimen and after 336h volume changes were calculated. Enamel microhardness was determined using a Microhardness Tester model HV-1000 and compared to normal enamel microhardness. Results: The pH values of beverages ranged from 2.37 to 3.1, showing no significant differences. All specimens presented color and surface texture modifications, weight loss and volume reduction. There were found significant differences between the mean values of weight loss and enamel microhardness of each type of specimens and type of beverages tested. The most representative findings were achieved by indentations done in specific zones on Sprite® immersed specimen. This result suggest that microhardness near the eroded surface was significant lower than in other zones. Conclusions: Data obtained have shown that all the soft drinks tested had an erosive effect, causing dental hard tissue dissolution. For prolonged time exposure titratable acidity may be a major predictor for erosive potential. Dental erosion may affect different levels of enamel causing decreased enamel microhardness.

Objective: This 3-year retrospective controlled clinical trial assessed the effect of a school-based oral health education program on caries incidence in children. Study design: A total of 240 students, aged 5 to 7 years, from two public schools in Monte Sião, Brazil, were included in this study. A school-based oral health education program was developed in one of the schools (experimental group), including 120 students, while the 120 students from the other school did not participate in the program (control group). All children were initially examined for dental caries (dmf-t), and after 3 years, 98 children from the experimental group and 96 from the control group were again examined and answered a questionnaire on oral health issues. The between-groups difference in caries incidence on permanent teeth was calculated using Poisson regression analyses. Logistic regression was used to observe the association between caries incidence and other variables. Results: More students from the experimental group stated knowing what was dental caries and declared that they use dental floss daily, but no significant differences in caries incidence was observed between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: The school-based oral health education program is not adequately efficient to decrease caries incidence after three years, but some issues about oral health knowledge could be slightly improved.

ABSTRACT Objective: In this paper, cavity experiences of children with different levels of eruption and cavity activities that are enrolled at an elementary school with semi-rural characteristics in Kırıkkale Provincial center were monitored for 2 years after a variety of protective applications. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and twenty-two children at the age of 7–11 were included in this study. Children were grouped as follows according to their cavity experiences and applications done: Group 1 - control group (with or without cavities) – was given hygiene training only; Group 2 - with medium level cavity activity (2–4 cavities in average) – oral hygiene training + surface restoration applied; Group 3 - children with 2–4 cavities on average – oral hygiene training + professional flour gel applied; Group 4 - children with 2–4 cavities in average – oral hygiene training + flour gel applied with brush; Group 5 - children with extreme cavity activity (children with 5 or more cavities) – oral hygiene training + surface restoration + professional flour gel combination applied. Results: At the end of the 2nd year, 277 children were reached. The increase of number of cavities in permanent teeth was determined as 35%, 0%, 1%, 0%, and 7% in groups 1–5, respectively. The difference between groups was found to be significant (Chi-square analysis, Pearson Chi-square = 27.002, P < 0.01). Conclusion: These findings have showed that, in Kırıkkale Provincial center, some cavity-preventive measures such as surface restoration and gel applications, along with hygiene training, could provide optimum protection for school-age children.

Objective: assessment of dental caries intensity in children with disturbances in tooth formation living in radiologically contaminated territories as a result of the Chornobyl NPP accident. Materials and methods. Children aged 6-14 years old (n = 1470) suffering from disturbances in tooth formation (DTF) with the residents of radiologically contaminated territories (n = 528) among them were enrolled in the study. The DTF subtypes were assayed, namely the systemic enamel hypoplasia (SEH) and molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH). Personal radiation history was recorded. Intensity of caries and caries of surfaces in the mixed (i.e. transitional) occlusion (df+DMF, dfs+DMFS coefficients) and permanent occlusion (DMF, DMFS coefficients) was identified. Results. Caries intensity in the exposed children suffering DTF with mixed and permanent dental occlusion was significantly higher vs. either in children exposed to ionizing radiation with no DTF or in the control group (р < 0.001, р < 0.001 and р < 0.05, р < 0.001 correspondingly). The highest caries intensity of the permanent teeth was revealed in the residents of contaminated territories suffering SEH (6.95 ± 2.3) vs. cases of MIH (5.68 ± 1.97) as a result of nonsymmetrical teeth involvement. Conclusions. The highest values of df+DMF, dfs+DMFS coefficients were diagnosed in children with a mixed dental occlusion aged 6-14 years old living on territories contaminated as a result of the ChNPP accident as compared to the not exposed subjects and control group (7.2 ± 2.07 and 8.98 ± 2.4, р < 0.001). A very high intensity of caries and surface caries of permanent teeth (DMF = 6.79 ± 2.34, DMFS = 8.69 ± 2.75, р < 0.001) was established in children exposed to ionizing radiation and suffering DTF. Such a high intensity may be due to the impact of a set of negative factors including the ionizing radiation in low doses and peculiarities of economic component of social status of study subjects, namely the unbalanced diet. In case of permanent occlusion the intensity of caries and caries of tooth of in children survived after the ChNPP accident and suffering SEH was significantly (р < 0.05) higher compared to the persons suffering MIH. The Hodgkin’s disease (lymphogranulomatosis, LGM) stands at the top of the list among malignant lymphomas in children. The highest rate of it occurrence coincides with childhood. LGM is most common at 4-6 and 12-14 years. The scope of scientific clinical research on odontoand parodontopathology is limited among pediatric population. The quantitative and qualitative composition of plaque, its thickness and area is primary pathogenic chain. In turn, unsatisfactory oral hygiene contributes to the development of decay and periodontal and oral mucosal disease in children with LGM. Our research aims to study the oral hygienic condition in patients with LGM during different clinical stages of the underlying disease. In order to reduce the toxic effect of LGM treatment, rational oral hygiene preventive measures shall be implemented. Matherials and methods. A total of 45 patients of both sexes in the 5-15 year age group diagnozed with lymphogranulomatosis (LGM) were examined. 243 healthy age-and-sex-matched children were included in the control group. The patients with lymphogranulomatosis (LGM I) were examined after the initial diagnosis. Group II (LGM II) consisted of patients who had completed the first polychemestry treatment cycle. Group III (LGM III) included patients who had a constant remission period (from over 6 months to 5 years). The oral hygienic condition was studied using the Pahomov’s hygienic index, the simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S by Greene and Vermilion), the PHP hygiene hygiene efficiency index (Podshadley, Haley, 1968), the modified Turesky index (1970), and API surfaces [6]. The data was statistically analyzed using Student's-Fisher's method. The Pahomov's hygienic index (PHI) in children aged 5-15 with LGM was quite different in the main and control groups (p<0.05). The score of PHI was 2.3 ± 0.05 (p<0.05) in patient group with LGM (LGM I). The Pahomov's hygienic index had increased in the children aged 5-15 diagnozed with LGM. The Pahomov’s index values from the second (LGM II) and third (LGM III) examinations were found to be quite different when compared to the control group of children of the same age (p<0.05). This PHI value was 3.39 ± 0.11 (very poor) after the second examination (LGM II) and was at 2.7 ± 0.10 (poor) during the third examination (LGM II). The satisfactory and unsatisfactory oral hygiene conditions according to the Pahomov’s index were observed in 5-15 year old children with LGM. The satisfactory and unsatisfactory oral hygiene conditions have been established using the Pahomov’s index, Green-Vermilion, Tureski, PHP, API in 5-15 year old children with LGM. The children might have completely given up on tooth brushing due to increased trauma and bleeding gums. Soft plaque is often responsible for dental decay in primary and permanent teeth in children and periodontal diseases. The analysis of the individual oral hygiene condition determined poor level of hygiene skill in patients with LGM compared to somatically healthy children. Hygienic condition and care depend on age, clinical stage of the underlying disease, the course of pathological complications in hard dental and soft oral tissues. Conclusion. Our clinical study established a poor oral hygiene condition by using different groups of dental hygiene indicators in patients with LGM. This condition particularly worsens during chemotherapy, which causes significant changes in periodontal, oral mucous and hard dental tissues. Children have low awareness of oral cavity care requirements or the specifics of selecting hygiene supplies and facilities. In those cases, the dental examination was required for raising awareness and providing oral hygiene control which was carried out among patients at different stages of the Hodgkin’s disease and it remission. Therefore, adopting such measures would provide an opportunity to increase the resistance of hard dental and periodontal tissues.
