Currently, domestic researchers pay much attention to the development of provisions on projects in the activities of organizations, their impact on the efficiency of organizations and the development of new provisions related to project management and organization of project activities. However, the definitions of projects and project management often given by domestic researchers are not linked to the key concepts of the theory of organization management, which leads to the fact that the provisions given by domestic researchers often have no practical application. The article systematizes approaches to defining the essence of projects in the activities of organizations, considers the reasons why projects and project activities become relevant for organizations in a competitive environment, as well as problems and their tasks in the activities of commercial organizations.

Current time of turbulent changes is related to the necessity of innovation, of both the products and the entire organization management system. However, innovation activities must be implemented in a short time. Unfortunately, most of the organizations struggle with insufficient costs and the lack of creative and active human resources. All of this might lead to a loss of market position and a decrease in competitiveness. If an organization wants to succeed on the market and survive in the long term, the trial and error method is ruled out. The project management is a possible way of dealing with the issue. Project management is characterized by a detailed examination of all the aspects of the project, their detailed planning, culminating in the implementation of the change and innovation. Therefore, the current managers need to define the precise goals, the responsible persons, and deadlines, allocate the tasks, costs and define the procedures crucial for project management clearly. Only in this way an organization is able to react to major changes quickly and without any mistakes. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the factors, important for the manufacturing enterprises in the projects, and to find out the relations of such factors. The research was carried out in 2019 in 116 manufacturing enterprises in the Czech Republic. The project managers often focus their attention on customer satisfaction and cost magnitude in evaluating of the projects.

Universities' core project management courses address the key principles and best practices of project management methodologies, while elective courses are utilized to introduce alternative project frameworks. The concept of project complexity can be taught to strengthen competency in project managers and enhance the success of the projects they manage. Previous instruction methods were evaluated to determine the key concepts that pertain to project complexity. This article proposes a preliminary framework for the development of an elective course on project complexity.

Since the Industrial Engineering (IE) was introduced to China, people have already had much understanding of this cross discipline, and IE has been successfully popularized and applied in some enterprises. In such circumstances, a task we face is to systematically and comprehensively develop a theory and application system of IE from the subject development and practical application point of view, and the industrial engineering body of knowledge is established based on such a need. In this paper, on the basis of investigation and study on the domestic and foreign relevant studies, it establishes the industrial engineering body of knowledge, and proposes the implementation mode of IE projects based on project management, providing a certain reference role in the discipline development of IE and the implementation of IE in enterprises.

This paper examines some questions of approaches to corporate project management. The relationship between maturity level of project management and standartization of project activities is contemplated; the role of project office at all levels of evolutionary maturity is defined; the organizational framework of implementation of project management corporate system (PMCS) and project management standard is analyzed; the place of PMCS in organization management structure is defined. A conceptual model of corporate project management standards development and implementation is proposed. Within this model the boundary conditions for created system and, respectively, for the standard are defined: functional framework of the standard and project management system are defined; key roles in organization project management processes are established; key processes and functions on organization project management are formulated. Besides, the project phases on development and deployment of project management corporate methodology are offered in this paper.

Abstract Countless people and organisations have been wrestling with the practical application of sustainability and sustainable development. Yet there is no rigorous and unequivocal template that can be followed for management because the meaning of the key concepts of sustainability and development in particular haven’t been properly identified. Although the fundamental meaning of the word sustainability is continuance, the concept has its controversies especially when it drifts into the ‘abstract’ and even becomes confused with sustainable development. For our purposes it is the ability of development and of its associated processing activities to continue that is being managed. For management effectiveness, a system framework is necessary but more importantly what goes into that system has to be rigorously and unambiguously defined. In our case, the mechanisms describing the practicalities that govern the sustainability of development have been clearly identified in this paper and called by name. The concept of development needs clarification, while the accepted popular ‘three pillar’ depiction of sustainable development is also fundamentally flawed when compared with the form of words of the ‘Brundtland’ definition. This well-known ‘Venn representation’ implies a type of ‘balance’ or ‘synergy’ at the heart of sustainability management. In fact, because of the fundamentally unsustainable nature of current development processes, the ‘balance’ turns into a trade-off amongst the three sustainability players. For real sustainable development there can be no such trade-off. Once the misunderstandings are clarified the true basics of sustainability and sustainable development are fed into a standard ISO14001 iteration loop for management to commence.

There are two opponents in a classic network interdiction problem, network owner/defender and interdictor/attacker. Each side has enough information about the other’s possible courses of action. While the network user wishes to run the network in an optimal way, the attacker with the limited resources tries to prevent the optimal operation of the network by interdicting the arcs/nodes of the network. In this study, we investigate project management in a competitive environment using a network interdiction approach. We assume that the project owner/manager strives to minimize the completion time of a Critical Path Method (CPM) based project while an opponent attempts to maximize the minimum completion time by inflicting some delays on project activities with available interdiction resources. Considering both discrete and continuous delay times, we develop two bi-level mixed-integer programming models for the interdictor. Using duality, we then convert the bi-level models to standard single-level models, which are solvable through standard optimization packages. We extend these models to find efficient solutions in terms of project completion time and interdiction resources from the interdictor’s perspective. In this respect, we develop an algorithm to find an efficient solution set for the interdictor. Next, from project manager’s standpoint, we discuss the earliest and latest scheduling times of activities in case of interdiction. Finally, we apply the developed techniques in a marketing project aiming at introducing a new product. The findings may enhance a better project management in an environment where an opponent can adversely affect the project management process by delaying some activities.

The article considers that the theory and methodology of project management and project management are currently the basis of public administration in all developed countries. Within this area, national and international standards have been approved, and the relevant legislative framework has been formed. In Kazakhstan, the project management paradigm is also adopted at the state level. An example of this is the adoption of priority national projects "Affordable and comfortable housing", "Health", "Quality education", "development of the agroindustrial complex", which" permeate " all levels of government. In other words, the field of management, called "project Management" and "Project management", in the context of the transition to an innovative development model, becomes the subject of close attention of Kazakhstan scientists, specialists and managers of both commercial organizations and Executive authorities at all levels of government. The reason for this is the global recognition of project management as a modern philosophy of effective and efficient management.

This chapter introduces hoteliers to the importance of effective project management in their professional lives. It summarizes key concepts in project management, especially as they relate to opening new hotels and other hospitality-related activities. Firstly, the nature of projects is explained, and they are contrasted to ongoing business operations with regards to how they are planned and controlled and how performance is measured. Then, project-specific planning methods are considered, and the risks involved in successfully completing projects are analyzed and managed. Next, the research on how to improve the chances of successfully completing projects is discussed, and how this relates to opening new hotels. Finally, sources of further information on becoming a successful project manager or researcher in this field are identified.
