This research was aimed to describe the lecturer’s motivational strategies in Teaching English at STKIP Yayasan Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh.This research was descriptive research in qualitative method. Participants in this research were three English lecturers who teach in Indonesian Department. Those were chosen by using total sampling. Researcher used observation, recording and field notes as the sources of the data. Checking data trustworthiness had been done by using peer briefing. After doing the research, the result showed that the most motivational strategies used by the lecturers was creating basic motivational conditions. Percentage was 24,65%. concluded that the English lecturer had used some kinds of motivational strategies in teaching English, strategy that used by the lecturers is creating the basic motivational conditions Keywords : motivational strategies, teaching english

The students' reading comprehension is very lowat the pandemic era, Theyare difficult to understand  the text, they don’t haveEnough English vocabulary, Many teachers/lecturer used  techniques that wereless precise in teaching reading, and the students got reading comprehension scores below the minimum completion criteria (KKM). This research aims to determine whether using Reading, Encoding, Annotating, and Pondering techhnique as Learning process in pandemic era to improve reading comprehension stability for students.This research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method, which describe of students’s problem at pandemic era by zoom in the Internet after that, analyze the data which used percentage.The researcher also has done pre-assesment for supporting accurate data.The subjects of this research were 20 students, consisted 11 females and 9 males. The subject Instrument used in this research is reading comprehension test, researcher observation cheklits and field notes, student observation Cheklist and field notes, interview and documentation by zoom at the Internet. According to avarage results, the increasing for  students' reading comprehension ability on the pre-assessment  is the average student reaches, (55.14%), learning 1  (62.15%), learning 2  (70.14%), and learning 3 (75.65%)  avarage students’ score increase and got standardization of school. Based on the result in each levels which  there is  indeed REAP technique could increasing students’ reading comprehension text.

Teachers are facilitators that assist students to make the learning process easier and more comfortale. Techer question is a part of learning process. The  aim  of  this  research  is to  find out the types  of  questions  asked  by teachers  in  teaching  and  learning  process.  This  research  is  descriptive  research.  Participant of this research are two English teachers at SMP PGRI Bandung. The  data  collection  used  two  instruments  namely    audio  recording  and  note taking.  From  this  research,  researcher  found  that  open ended questions are mostly occur in the classroom beside ; yes/no questions, short answer   questions,   display   questions,   referential   questions   and   non   retrieval questions. During research, there are three kind of languages used by teachers, they are English, mixed English –Indonesian, and Indonesian.

This study focussing on the use of code switching produced by instructors in English teaching and learning process based on Sosiolinguistics and language teaching point of view. This research uses qualitative method and records the process of teaching English and interviews the instructors and students as a technique of this research to find the importance of code switching. The data were transcripted and analyzed use the concepts of Wardhaugh and Suwito about types of code switching and functions of code switching use the concept of Margana. The research shows that there are 4 types of code switching intern, extern, metaphorical dan situasional code switching. Extern code switching are code switching from English to Indonesian (i.e. do you know what day is tomorrow? Besok hari apa?) and English to Manado Malay (i.e. you know what I mean? Mangarti nda?). Intern code switching is code switching from Manado Malay to Indonesian (i.e. besok hari libur jadi nda ada les. Lesnya nanti minggu depan). Metaphorical code switching is a code switching without any changing topic. Situasional code switching is a code switching with changing topic. Also, there are 7 types of code switching, they are repetition, clarification, exploration, explanation, giving assignment, checking students’ understanding and giving warning/suggestion. It can be concluded that there are 4 types of code switching produced by instructors in English teaching and learning process. They are extern, intern, metaphorical and situasional code switching. Besides, there are 7 functions of code switching. They are repetition, clarification, exploration, explanation, giving assignment, checking students’ understanding and giving warning/suggestion.Keywords : Code switching, Instructors utterences, English teaching and learning   process

The aim of this research is to describe the Islamic values in the process of teaching English. This research was conducted at SD Labschool FIP UMJ for about 3 months starting from June 2018 until August 2018. This study focuses on English teaching and learning process at 4th graders. The study applied a qualitative descriptive research method which used observation and documents as the instruments in collecting the data. The writers observed both the school and 4th grade class and used the syllabus, lesson plan and English textbook as the documents. The analysis of the data showed that the Islamic values had been being well-built in the area of the school together with the school activities. While in the class observation the writer found that the Islamic values were not being applied yet in the process of teaching and learning English, besides, it was also found that syllabus, lesson plan, and textbook did not insert any Islamic values at all either in the content of the materials or in the teaching and learning activities. Thus this research study concludes that the Islamic values did not fully exist yet in the process of teaching English to the 4th graders of SD Labschool FIP UMJ.

ABSTRACT Background: Indonesia consists of various ethnics on each island, one of which is Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) precisely on Sumatra island of Jambi Province. Each ethnic group has a variety of natural and traditional remedies. This observation was conducted from November 2017 to February 2018 in Muara Kilis Village, Tengah Ilir District, Tebo District, Jambi Province.This research purpose to determined of various disease and know the various natural resources that are used as a treatmenton Suku Anak Dalam at Muara Kilis. Method: This research type is descriptive research using qualitative method and purposive sampling for sampling technique and open-ended interview with informant using voice recording media. Results: The disease are often experienced by Suku Anak Dalam among others fever, cough, asthma, measles, gastritis, hemorrhoids,  stomachaches, and allergy. To treat the disease by utilizing natural resources like plants and animals. Part of the plants used among others, leaves, sap, and fruit, while for animal parts used are bile, urine, and blood. Processing methods are pounded, boiled, grated, and fried, while the use of these ingredients by eating, drinking, bathed, and applied directly on part of sickness skin Conclusion: Based on the results that has been done there are 8 diseases that often occur and there are 5 kinds of plants and 4 animals from different genus and family that are used as traditional medicine in Suku Anak Dalam Muara Kilis Village.   Keywords: (Ethnopharmacy, Suku Anak Dalam, Diseases, Natural Resources)

<p>Abstract</p><p>This article aims to examine the validity of transaction process through an Instagram that is reviewed based on The Indonesian Civil Code and in order to find out what consequences that will be faced if one of the parties do a breach of contract in the process of transaction. Doctrinal-descriptive research is used in this study to examine the case by using law statue approach. Both primary and secondary law are used in this present study. The technique of collecting data uses library-based research and the technique of analyzing data uses deductive qualitative method.  The result reveals that contract validity of transaction through Instagram have to fulfill the four terms written in the Article 1320 Indonesian Civil Code. In the process of transaction of Instagram,both seller and buyer do not meet face-to-face so that it is hard to discover if the participant have the competency based on the Indonesian Civil Code. Therefore, if one of the terms in the Article 1320 Indonesian Civil Code is unfulfilled, the transaction could be canceled by the court judgement. However, if one of the parties does not ask for a cancellation, then the contract will still be applied for both of them. Regarding the consequences for the one doing breach of contract, there will be two possibilities which are; the one doing that breach fulfill the demands from the injured party based on the Article 1267 Indonesian Civil Code or the breach of contract person does not fulfill the demands as what had written in Indonesian Civil Code.</p><p>Keywords: Transaction; Instagram; Indonesian Civil Code.</p><p> </p><p>Abstrak</p><p>Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji mengenai keabsahan kontrak dalam transaksi jual beli melalui Instagram ditinjau berdasar Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata dan untuk mengetahui akibat hukum yang timbul apabila salah satu pihak melakukan wanprestasi. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian hukum normatif yan bersifat deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan undang-undang. Jenis bahan hukum yang digunakan adalah bahan hukum primer dan sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan bahan hukum menggunakan studi kepustakaan dan teknik analisis bahan hukum yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode deduktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kontrak yang sah harus memenuhi empat syarat di dalam Pasal 1320 Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata, sehingga kontrak dalam transaksi jual beli melalui Instagram untuk dapat dikatakan sebagai kontrak yang sah harus memenuhi ketentuan Pasal 1320 Kitab UndangUndang Hukum Perdata. Dalam transaksi jual beli melalui Instagram, mengenai Kecakapan seseorang sangat sulit untuk dipenuhi karena penawaran dan penerimaan Terjadinya kesepakatan tidak bertemu langsung/bertatap muka, sehingga sulit menentukan Para pihak telah dinyatakan sudah cakap menurut undang-undang. Tidak terpenuhinya Salah satu syarat dalam Pasal 1320 Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata Yaitu syarat kecakapan, sehingga kontrak tersebut dapat dibatalkan melalui putusan pengadilan, Akan tetapi jika salah satu pihak tidak meminta pembatalan maka kontrak tersebut tetap berlaku dan mengikat para pihak yang terlibat. Mengenai akibat hukum bagi pihak yang wanprestasi dalam transaksi jual beli melalui Instagram ada dua kemungkinkan, yaitu: pihak yang wanprestasi memenuhi tuntutan oleh pihak yang dirugikan dalam ketentuan Pasal 1267 Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata atau pihak yang wanprestasi tidak memenuhi tuntutan dalam ketentuan Pasal 1267 Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata.</p><p>Kata kunci: Transaksi; Instagram; Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata.</p>

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah Kinerja guru bisa mempengaruhi sekolah dan motivasi yang diberikan oleh kepala sekolah dapat meningkatkan kinerja guru. Jenis penelitian ini adalah berupa penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, maksudnya adalah dalam penelitian deskriftif kualitatif, dimana data yang dikumpulkan bukan berupa angka-angka melainkan data tersebut mungkin berasal dari naskah wawancara, catatan lapangan dokumen pribadi, catatan memo, dan dokumen resmi lainya. subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kepala sekolah dan guru dari 6 Sekolah Dasar di Kecamatan Curio Kabupaten Enrekang. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode observasi, Wawancara dan pembagian angket. Dan dalam penelitian tentang motivasi kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru dari 6 sekolah dilaksakan 5 asas yaitu (1) Kepribadian dan Sosial (2) kepemimpinanan pembelajaran (3) pengembangan sekolah/madrasah, (4) manajemen sumber daya (5) supervise pembelajaran. Dari kelima asas tersebut terdapat kepala sekolah memiliki kategori tinggi dan ada kepala sekolah memiliki kategori Sedang. This study aims to determine whether teacher performance can affect schools and motivation given by principals can improve teacher performance. This type of research is in the form of qualitative descriptive research, meaning that the data collected is not in the form of numbers but the data were collected from interview scripts, personal document field notes, memo notes, and other official documents. The subjects in this study were principals and teachers from 6 elementary schools (SD) in Curio District, Enrekang Regency. The data in this study were collected using the method of observation, interviews and questionnaires. And in research on principal motivation towards teacher performance from 6 schools, 5 principles were implemented, namely (1) Personality and Social (2) learning leadership (3) school / madrasah development, (4) resource management (5) learning supervision. Of the five principles, there are school principals in the high category and there are school principals in the Medium category.

Teaching English to students, particularly non-English speakers, requires proper strategies and methods. By doing so, each teacher has his/her challenges. This study intends to unveil the emerging challenges faced by English teachers from non-native English-speaking countries (non-NESCs) such as China, Japan, Thailand, Senegal, Mongolia, Cambodia, and Laos. This study stands on to answer two research questions: 1. What are the challenges of teaching English in non-native English-speaking countries? 2. Is there any effort to overcome the challenges? If so, how do they overcome it? By utilizing the qualitative method, seven teachers are interviewed to tell their challenges. The result indicates three main problems, including learning materials which do not cover students’ need, too big classroom size and school environment, and also students’ low motivation. Some programs are conducted to overcome those challenges. For example, Japan has an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) who comes once a week to cooperate with the English teacher in each school. Then, Volunteer English Teacher (VET) program helps English Teachers in Laos.

This study describes the implementation of teachers� elicitation in speaking class of English Department of Ar-raniry Islamic State University. It attempts to investigate types of elicitation used by the lecturers in speaking class and the most frequent type. The participants of this study were five lecturers of speaking classes and hence ten teaching sessions were video-recorded and transcribed in order to analyze lecturers� utterance that indicates teachers� elicitation. Quantitative and qualitative method were employed where the data were obtained from observation and interview by means of video recorder, field-notes, observation sheet and interview guide. Technique of data analysis was followed Miles�s & Huberman�s (1992) model including data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of this study revealed six types of elicitations; elicit:inform, elicit:confirm, elicit:agree, elicit:commit, elicit:repeat, and elicit:clarify were used by the lecturers in teaching speaking. It is also found elicit:inform was the most frequent type of elicitation used which reached 72.23%. This indicates that the lecturers frequently used elicitation to invite students to speak.

The purpose of this research is to know the description of interest, understanding of history subject, and creativity, effectiveness of teaching and learning activity in class in history subject at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin. The research used qualitative method and the research type used was classroom action research. Descriptive research aims to give factual and accurate description regarding the facts of situation at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin, especially on the role play  method in increasing the history learning interest. Data taken consist of primary and secondary data.The result of research indicates that role playing method in increasing the interest of  history at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin has run well and succeeded. The assessment seen from the cognition , psychomotor, and affective aspect  of students has depicted on overall students’ learning results and objectivity. The problems faced in applying role playing method were (1) limitation of time , (2) limitation of materials which are required in the subject, (3) lack of knowledge of teacher in role playing method, and (4) less comprehension of students about role playing. Keywords: Interest and method of role playing Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran minat, pemahaman pelajaran sejarah, dan kreativitas, efektifitas kegiatan belajar mengajar siswa pada mata pelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian deskriptif bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran secara faktual dan akurat mengenai fakta-fakta tentang keadaan Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri  2 Banjarmasin, khususnya dalam hal metode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) untuk meningkatkan minat  belajar sejarah. Data yang diambil terdiri dari data primer dan data sekunder.Hasil penelitian menunjukkanmetode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) untuk meningkatkan minat  belajar sejarah pada Mata Pelajaran Sejarah kelas XII IPS-4 SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin sudah dapat dikatakan berjalan dengan semestinya dan berhasil.Penilaian dengan melihat aspek kognitif, psikomotor, dan afektif siswa sudah menggambarkan keseluruhan hasil belajar siswa dan objektivitas.Masalah-masalah yang dihadapi dalam penerapan metode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) disini adalah (1) sedikitnya waktu, (2) materi yang dibutuhkan dalam pelajaran ini sangat terbatas, (3) guru kurangnya pengetahuan tentang metode bermain peran, dan (4) siswa kurang memahami tentang Bermain Peran.Kata Kunci:Minat dan metode  bermain peran (Role Playing)
