Purpose of the Study Technology revolution have made the communication and information sharing quite easy and approachable around the world. Such technology platforms comes under the category of social media. However, social media bring the ease of the communication and information sharing along with negative effects on health in case of extreme usage. Especially, youngsters have encounter with negative effects of the social media platforms like bad academics performance and health (Murray et al., 2012). Therefore, increase in the number of the psychiatrist patients has occur especially of young age including college and university students. This negative effect of extreme use of  social media on society cannot be ignored. Thus, current study examines the association of social media usage with depression among the collge students. Methodology  The correlational study design are used  and data was getheared through self administered questionnaire. Respondents were selected through simple random sampling and questionnaire were distributed to 155 students of Nisa girls college and Nursing College, Allama Iqbal Medical College through . SPSS version 21 apply the tests of frequency distribution, reliability and validiy, correlation and regression. Findings The results reveal that there exists positive and significant relationship between social media usage and depression (P<0.000) among the college students. It is the responsibility of  the parents and management of educational institutes to spread the awareness and focus on the measures to avoid its extensive usage among the young adults. Significance The increase of depression among the young adults have severe damages to the society and raise the concens of the parents. This study will enhance the knowledge of parents that extreme usage of social media can cause problems of health to their childeren. Likewise, educational institutes can take the benefits of these findings to avoid such technology at their campus. Meanwhile, the policy makers of governement can take the guide while designing the regulatory policies for institutes and awareness compaigns. Future directions and limitations are provided at the end of the this study.   Key Words:  Social Media Usage, Depreesion, Young adults.

Does the number of social media platforms that an adolescent uses have an effect on the quality of their social relationships? As social media continues to grow and evolve, sociologists have begun to explore its effect on an individual’s everyday life. I propose that the more social media platforms that an adolescent uses, the more they will experience negative effects on their social relationships. Using survey data from 786 respondents living in the United States, ages 13 to 17 and collected by the Pew Research Center in 2014 and 2015, regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationship between social media usage and its effect on quality of adolescent social relationships, controlling for sex and age. The bivariate results show a statistically significant, positive but weak association between number of social media platforms used and the social relationship experience scale. In the multivariate results, this association was still statistically significant. Additionally, the multivariate results show that the control variables, sex and age, have no significant effect on one’s social relationship experience. Therefore, these results show that the more social media platforms used, the more negative a social relationship experience an adolescent will have. The results support the hypothesis and indicate that adolescents who interact with a higher number of social media platforms will experience an increased negative effect on their social relationships. In future studies, researchers should investigate how specific social media platforms influence social relationships. Additionally, this type of research should not only continue, but should refine its methods as social media continues to quickly grow and evolve.

In today’s business world, social media tools (i.e. facebook, twitter, Linkedin, etc.) begin to play an important role in reaching and communicating with customers for businesses. However, the importance of using social media can’t be still understood by SMEs so far.  Businesses use different social media tools in various purposes in their life. In this research we aim to investigate the ideas of SMEs about social media and their aims of using social media tools. Data were collected from SMEs operating in Burdur by simple random sampling. The data obtained from the 84 questionnaires was entered to computer and statistical analysis was carried out by using SPSS 20 statistical program. In this study, reliability analysis was used firstly. Then, some descriptive analyses were carried out about using social media for SMEs. Finally, a frequency table regarding the social media usage in SMEs was given. As a result, it was seen that 82.1% of SMEs participating in this study have a social network page. Secondly, SMEs are using facebook social media network mostly. In addition, SMEs have expressed that they attend all statements involved in the use of social media scale.

Young adults&rsquo; use of social media has soared in recent years, and the many hours that young adults now spend in front of screens replace time spent in face-to-face interactions. Previous studies indicate that the unique features of social media offer advantages to adolescents compared with other communications media. Today, the fact that young adults spend a significant part of their social lives spent on social media and forums triggers an important question that interests educators and therapists about whether presence in the digital world offers an adequate sense of social belonging and mitigates the feeling of loneliness that young adults occasionally experience. Using self-report questionnaires, this study examined associations between reported Facebook usage patterns and loneliness among Ariel University students. The hypotheses of this study, predicting an association between social media usage and loneliness, were not supported, in contrast to findings of previous studies.

This study aims to: determine the intensity of social media usage on General High School students in Palopo City and find out the effect of social media usage on student geography learning outcomes. The variables in this study are the use of social media consisting of 4 indicators, namely 1) owned social media accounts, 2) intensity of accessing social media, 3) the use of social media, and 4) the impact of using social media. This type of research is quantitative descriptive. The population in this study were 2298 students and 10% of the samples were taken, 230 students. Sampling in this study using Simple random sampling technique. With. The results showed that 230 students taken in this study accessed social media in the highest frequency a day at> 5 hours a day, which was 61 students or 26.52% and from 6 schools studied only 3 schools where social media had an effect on learning outcomes the geography of students with a large influence of 10-15% with a weak degree of relationship, while the factors that cause social media to influence student learning outcomes come from internal and external factors of the students themselves. while the other 3 schools, where social media does not affect learning outcomes because they tend to use social media for the benefit of entertainment, friendship, online games, and others. Because the influence of the use of social media is weak and is only found in 3 schools, in this study Social Media has no effect on student geography learning outcomes.


Social media has become part of our daily lives with a major impact on youth’s life. It changed the lives of people for the good but alongside created risks for the individual by impacting their behaviour and mental health as well as society alike. The present study was conducted to examine the pattern and purpose of social media usage among rural youth in rural areas of Ludhiana. Through a simple random sampling technique, a total of 150 respondents were selected from six villages of two blocks and were interviewed. YouTube and WhatsApp were the main sites on which the youth spent most of their time. While buying the phones, respondents prioritised the brand and quality of the phone whereas the selfie mode of the phone was least preferred during selection. The source of knowledge followed by source of entertainment was perceived as merits of social media whereas the demerits were undue peer pressure and communication gap within the family. The study suggested judicious use of social media in the right direction along with digital detox.

This research investigates social media effect on the spelling abilities of students of Federal College of Education Yola. The study is significant because it helped in unveiling the negative effect of social media on students spelling abilities. The intents of the study are to examine the effect of social media on the student’s spelling ability, to find out the nature of effect social media have on students spelling ability, to determine the number of hours spent by students on social networking activities every day and to determine how social media usage has affected students spelling ability. The social learning theory was adopted as the theoretical framework. Survey was the research method used, using questionnaire as the instrument which was conveniently and accidentally distributed among respondents in the levels. The study established that virtual platforms (social media) have negative effects on the spelling ability of students. Students expend excessive period on social media events than their academics especially the effect on the spelling ability of students during examination, when writing letters and using social media platform such as Whatsapp, Twitter and Facebook. The research generalized that the usage of social media by students affects their spelling ability negatively more especially when writing examination and letters, which in turn affects conventional way of writing. The study however recommends that more time should be channeled and spent on productive academic engagement and institutions should come up with ways of harnessing such virtual platforms academically in order to enhance students spelling ability since they are so addicted to social media.

This article aims to explain maqâṣid al-Qur’ân according to M. Quraish Shihab and its application in interpreting verses related to the use of social media. The problem that will be answered in this article covers two main issues, namely how the perspective of maqâṣid al-Qur’ân according to M. Quraish Shihab and how it is applied in interpreting the verses of the use of social media. The method used is the thematic method, namely discussing verses based on themes. Fr om this study the authors concluded that according to M. Quraish Shihab there are six elements of a large group of universal goals of the al-Qur’ân, namely strengthening the faith, humans as caliphs, unifying books, law enforcement, callers to the ummah of wasathan, and mastering world civilization. The quality of information lies in the strength of the monotheistic dimension which is the highest peak of the Qur’anic maqâṣid. M. Quraish Shihab offers six diction which can be done by recipients of information in interacting on social media. Thus, it aims to usher in the knowledge and understanding of what is conveyed in carrying out human mission as caliph, enlightenment through oral and written, law enforcement, unifying mankind and the universe to the ummah of wasathan, and mastery of world civilization

The humanitarian problem in the development of the industrial revolution 4.0 is very complex and is at the stage of worrying. No human being separated from the effect of the waves. High school is active users (user) of the results of the industrial revolution the 4.0. The problem that arises in the use of social media including the demise of expertise, the dissemination of hate speech and fabricated news. Teaching Islamic education material should be able to respond to this by providing normative information in the Qur'an and Hadith so that students can escape from its negative effects. One of the solutions offered was to integrate these materials with integratsi learning models in the themes that have been arranged in the school's learning policy. Integrating this material must through the phases between the awarding phase of learning, information or materials to grow a critical reason, generate hypotheses and generalities.

There is a growing body of literature exploring the general population’s use of social media for assistance in dealing with stigmatized health issues. This study presents novel research examining the relationship between social media use and young adults. It utilizes a therapeutic affordance (TA) framework. Quantitative results from this study are complemented by qualitative data. The relationships between distinct social media and their TA (a–b) are presented to highlight their potential to impact positively on social and emotional well-being outcomes. Evidence includes broad support for “connection,” “narration,” and “collaboration” TAs in this context and the relationship between the use of distinct social media and perceived quality of life (QOL) outcomes (a–c). TA provides an appropriate and valuable theoretical framework which is useful for the development of an evidence-base from the analysis of young adult’s social media usage. An analysis of the association between social media and their QOL outcomes is presented according to the TA relationship pathway (a–c–b). The adoption of a TA framework enables a nuanced analysis of significant associations between specific social media, TA, and improved QOL outcomes. This study demonstrates the significant association between social media and perceived QOL outcomes in young adults.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of social media by restaurants in China and the extent to which consumers are using it to obtain information about dining options. Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire for consumers was developed and social media usage data were collected from restaurants; the results were compared to determine whether there is a difference between practices and preferences. Findings – Based on the results of this paper, restaurants may want to consider committing resources and efforts to improve their presence on Dianping, Baidu and Meituan, and to utilize WeChat. Also, they may want to send non-personalized updates, especially coupons, discounts and information about special events, through the above-mentioned channels two to three times a month. Additionally, restaurants may want to improve engagement with frequent users so that they will recommend to others. Finally, restaurants may want to evaluate and invest in online ordering and payment systems if they haven’t done so already. Research limitations/implications – Strategic choices should be based on understanding of consumers. Unless the gaps between practices and preferences are identified and understood, restaurant companies may not be able to use social media effectively and efficiently. Originality/value – China’s social media market – the largest in the world – differs considerably from other countries; it presents unique opportunities and challenges. Social media is always a function of the technology, culture and government of a particular country or context; for this reason, it is very important to study social media in its “context”. While the need is pressing, there are limited studies on restaurant consumer preferences in a computer-mediated environment, not to mention in the Chinese context. This study examined consumer preferences and potential gaps between preferences and practices in the Chinese context; the results will help to direct restaurants in China to make better use of social media.
