Tooth decay is the most important early age children problem of the health of oral cavity. It is medical and social problem of many developed countries and countries with transitional economy. According to WHO, in some countries the frequency and the intensity of dental caries decrease, however the same indexes in Ukraine increase rapidly and systematically. The interconnection of dental diseases and general somatic pathology is well known and it occupies one of the leading places among the main reasons of dental caries. The prevalence of bronchial asthma among child population varies from 1% till 18%. Herewith, children with the diseases of respiration organs have higher marks of caries defeat than healthy children. The aim of the work is to carry out the analysis of the specialized scientific literature for the data generalization about modern looks to the prophylaxis and treatment of dental caries, its complications and the condition of dental health in children with bronchial asthma. Materials and methods. We have analyzed and studied the available scientific literature in the last years, which is devoted to the peculiarity of prevalence of dental diseases, prophylaxis and treatment of tooth decay, its complications and the condition of dental health in children with bronchial asthma. According to our research, there are different indexes of caries prevalence and intensity in Ukraine. Thus, in the western regions prevalence come up to 93-100% and intensity 3,4-6,5, whereas in the central and south-east regions the same marks come up to 73-93% and 2,0-4,3. There is a huge influence on the caries prevalence by genetic tendency, attendant somatic pathology, social and hygienic factors. It is generally known that patients with bronchial asthma use inhalation glucocorticosteroids as basic treatment. This fact places them into the group of higher risk of caries development. But the influence of these drugs on the progress of tooth decay and saliva secretion is not well studied. Scientists confirm that the use of inhalation glucocorticosteroids can change chemical and immune compound of oral liquid (the descent of saliva secretion speed, pH, number of calcium, phosphor, lysozyme and the upsurge of saliva viscosity). All these changes along with diminution of Ig A and ptyalin amount makes these children more defenseless to caries and assist in development of cariogenic situation in the oral cavity. Moreover, children with allergic pathology have changes of immune reactivity and dysfunction of albumen and mineral conversion. At the same time the defeat of hard tissues of teeth in children with hypoxia which is determined by inborn and heritable diseases most often appear as the systemic hypoplasia in combination with plural caries. Caries prevalence in children with bronchial asthma is about 88-89% according to the latest news. We need also to draw attention to the changes of the osseous tissues. They depend not only on burden and duration of bronchial asthma, but on the peculiarity of progression of caries process. These children have low mineral density and modified indexes of mineral and bone exchange. All this facts confirm about the systemic character of the bone defeat in this patients. Herewith, the stage of alteration grows up proportional to intensity of tooth decay. Conclusions. Thus, the analysis of literary data, as well as own research, have demonstrated the necessity of in-depth study of described problem and elaboration of specific prophylaxis program of dental caries and its complications in children with bronchial asthma.

There were examined 300 first-year/third-year students of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University at the age of 17 to 20 years residing in Ivano-Frankivsk and the regions with low fluoride levels. Clinical examination included their medical history and oral cavity examination using a dental probe and a detection device - the DIAGNOdent. The dependency between the prevalence of tooth decay and the region of residency was found. Initial and superficial dental caries was detected in most students despite the place of residence. Moderate and advanced dental caries predominated in students residing in the regions with low levels of fluoride. Fissure caries was detected most often. The patterns of dental caries prevalence indicate the need for development and implementation of preventive and therapeutic measures to prevent complications.

Aim. Evaluation of dental diseases prevalence in professional athletes engaged in power sports and of the influence of biologically neutral products based on propolis on the level of their dental health. Methods. The examination of organs and tissues of the oral cavity of professional athletes engaged for a long time in power sports was carried out. With the use of the developed specialized questionnaire dental status of the athletes was determined. Based on the analysis of the results of clinical and laboratory studies anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effectiveness of products based on propolis were evaluated. Results. The results of the survey showed that not all athletes are informed about the possibility of aggravation of pathological processes in soft and hard tissues of oral cavity during active training, mainly, in power sports. Lack of awareness of surveyed athletes about the need for timely individual oral hygiene procedures and regular dentist visits was revealed, especially during intense training before and after competitions. On evaluation of dental status of professional combat athletes high prevalence and intensity of inflammatory periodontal disease and caries were found. High anti-inflammatory efficiency of the product «Pomegranate Balm» for correction of dental status of professional athletes was proven. Conclusion. High incidence of inflammatory periodontal diseases of mild to moderate severity was revealed in athletes during prolonged and intense physical training; efficacy of biologically neutral products based on propolis was established.

The therapeutic and diagnostic activity is a collective work that is carried out jointly by specialists in different directions of dentistry and support units. The main goal of this type of activity is to improve the dental health by preventing dental diseases. It includes the treatment and rehabilitation using various ways of replacement of the lost integrity of the dentition and restoration of the teeth using a prosthetic. In order to do this, it is necessary to prepare the teeth and the pulp of the oral cavity for prosthetics. The sequence of preparatory activities includes a series of steps carried out in sequence: preventive, hygienic, therapeutic (including periodontal), surgical and orthopedic (including orthodontics). Each of these stages includes a series of manipulations, the sequence and number of which is determined by the individual dental status of each patient. The inspection and preparation of a comprehensive plan for the treatment involves a sequence of all these actions carried out by a team of experts in agreement with the patient, evidenced by the «informed consent» subscription. After the preparatory activities, it is possible to go to the final stage, that is to make a prosthetic appliance to the patient. The total duration of all phases of preparatory activities preceding the prosthetics depends on the complexity of the steps themselves, and is determined by the severity of the related dental diseases. The treatment of these diseases is the main part of the preparatory activities.

Carcinogenic foods can cause tooth decay (dental caries). Carcinogenic food comes in the form of sweetfood like candy, chocolate, cookies, sugar and other food which is starchy, sticky, carbohydrated andcrumbled in the mouth. This research was a descriptive study with survey method aiming to find out thedescription of children’s knowledge about kinds of carcinogenic food towards the occurrence of dentalcaries among grade 5b students at SDN 068003 Kayu Manis Perumnas Simalingkar Medan Tuntungan. Thenumber of the samples was 35 students. The data were collected through the questionnaires and directexamination to the patients’ oral cavity. The result showed that 30 students (85%) had good knowledgeabout the types of cariogenic food and 5 students (15%) had medium knowledge. Through the directexamination to 35 students, 24 students (68%)had caries in milk teeth, 14 students (40%) had caries inpermanent teeth. It is expected that students choose healthy food and reduce consuming sweet foods that canlead to dental caries.

Cerebral palsy is one of the commonest children's physical handicaps with frequency of 1.5-3/1000. Beside many other disturbances, these children may have serious disorders caused by dental diseases. Concerning this fact, the objective of our study was to examine children with cerebral palsy in our country and determine condition of dental health and suggest adequate protective measures. A total of 116 children, 3-18 years old, with cerebral palsy were examined and the results were compared to the control group of healthy children of the same age. Among healthy children, 7-10 years old, 66.3% had healthy parodontium, while none of children with cerebral palsy had healthy parodontium. Children, 11-14 years old with cerebral palsy had higher percentage of untreated caries, but lower percentage of filled teeth (18.7%) compared to healthy children (55.0%). Children, 15-18 years old with cerebral palsy had significantly higher percentage of extracted teeth (10.6%) than healthy children (4.1%) and more often orthodontic anomalies (70.6%), compared to healthy children (46.9%). Results of these study indicate that children with cerebral palsy need special and planned dental care.

ABSTRACT Backhousia citriodora (lemon myrtle) extract has been found to inhibit glucansucrase activity, which plays an important role in biofilm formation by Streptococcus mutans. In addition to glucansucrase, various virulence factors in S. mutans are involved in the initiation of caries. Lactate produced by S. mutans demineralizes the tooth enamel. This study investigated whether lemon myrtle extract can inhibit S. mutans lactate production. Lemon myrtle extract reduced the glycolytic pH drop in S. mutans culture and inhibited lactate production by at least 46%. Ellagic acid, quercetin, hesperetin, and myricetin, major polyphenols in lemon myrtle, reduced the glycolytic pH drop and lactate production, but not lactate dehydrogenase activity. Furthermore, these polyphenols reduced the viable S. mutans cell count. Thus, lemon myrtle extracts may inhibit S. mutans-mediated acidification of the oral cavity, thereby preventing dental caries and tooth decay.
