Traditionally, language needs to be learnt face-to-face. Pronunciation practices, role play, group discussions are all activities that allow interaction among learners. Previously, some things are better learnt face-to-face, while some can be learnt online. Nevertheless, the pandemic has accelerated the need for online learning in almost all courses offered at institutions. Devices used for online learning can be used as a leaning tool by learners to improve understanding. These devices help to reduce a learner’s zone of proximal development (ZPD) thus maximizing learning. Online learning has been said to facilitate rather than hinder language learning. This study is therefore done to explore how it helps the learning of Mandarin. The study investigates how online interaction affects the learning of Mandarin in language classrooms. 173 participants responded to a 28 items (5 likert scale) instrument. Findings reveal how online learning influences interaction, encourages participation of more knowledgeable others, and improves interaction with content among learners.

Online learning is used by all levels of education without exception, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the effectiveness of online learning is still unknown, because teachers are more focused on teaching than conducting studies on online learning. So this study aims to determine the effectiveness of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at Yapis Manokwari High School. The method in this research uses descriptive quantitative method, in which quantitative data is in the form of a percentage of the results of the questionnaire, and descriptive data is in the form of a description of the percentage of the results of the questionnaire. In addition, data collection techniques also use interview techniques to strengthen students' questionnaire answers. The interview was conducted with a class XI teacher at SMA Yapis Manokwari. The sample used was 30 students. The results showed that students understood the use of online platforms in online learning, but online learning was not effective due to several factors, including: (1) signal, (2) time constraints, (3) noise from students due to forgetting to turn off the microphone. In addition, the results of interviews with teachers also show that online learning is not effective because it does not meet teacher expectations or does not achieve learning objectives compared to face-to-face learning.

ABSTRACTSince September 2021 limited face-to-face learning (PTM) has been implemented. This limited PTM has many options in its implementation, for example by combining online and PTM methods. The shift to online learning is based on many assumptions, such as all members of society having access to multiple tools. However, the reality is that there are still many people who do not have stable internet access. To overcome this problem, the mathematics teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Kuta Utara emphasized to students that learning mathematics is not only to pursue the achievement of the material in the textbook, but emphasizes to students how to think critically and solve problems. This service provides an opportunity for teachers to have experience in compiling a project assignment using the concept of coding. The implementation of this service consists of three stages, namely the planning, implementation, and reflection stages. The results obtained are that this service helps teachers find new alternatives in compiling project assignments that still prioritize learning objectives. In addition, students also do not have difficulty in doing the assignments given by the teacher. Keywords: coding; project assignment; mathematics.
