This paper aims to investigate the influence of education and research quality provided by local educational institutions on the innovative adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) by the workforce in Saudi Arabia. The study tests whether this influence is mediated by domestic competition and/or the level of ICT penetration. A model was developed and tested using data collected from 119 CEOs of foreign companies in diverse local business sectors. The data is analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that educational quality exhibited a lesser contribution to the ICT adoption compared to research quality. These results are analyzed in terms of business environment, market constraints and pedagogical approaches in schools and universities.

The purpose of this paper is to show that a change of situation in the world market and mineral resources’ depletion lead to closing of numerous mining companies. There is an urgent necessity to establish environment safety and recover economic value of disturbed soils for their further use. The paper provides cases of successful revitalization of areas, including industrial areas, where the landscape or family entertainment parks were created. There are priority grounds for public amenity projects implemented in industrial zones as a part of quality of environment upgrade in industry-based towns. Given the fact that Ukraine opens a competition for new jobs and economy development in mining regions, the paper presents information proving that closed coalmines require renovation projects feasible to change the situation significantly, making these regions worth of investments. The paper outlines differences between the industrial and technology parks. In particular, there are advantages and gains of industrial parks, current theoretical suggestions for their creation in closed coalmines areas, the case of practical implementation of an industrial park prototype in operating mines and present problems of industrial parks creation and operation. The number of industrial parks in Ukraine is one of the fewest in the world. For late 2020, Ukraine registered only 45 industrial parks and only 23 of them had managing companies. The paper gives the grounds that to create industrial parks of Brownfield type is the most efficient solution for closed coalmines areas recovery.

The introduction of urban policy aimed at attracting innovative technologies to stimulate socio-economic development of territories, intensification of investment activities in the regions and rational use of land resources, has necessitated scientifically sound changes in urban planning - the formation of technology parks and technopolises. In the Lviv region, as in Ukraine as a whole, the process of forming the infrastructure of innovative entrepreneurship (business centers, business incubators, technology parks) has only just begun and has not yet received proper development. It should be noted that the significant scientific and educational potential of the Western region and in particular the city of Lviv can be used much more effectively. In 2025, the current master plan for the development of Lviv will end. On the eve of elaboration of the new master plan of Lviv it is necessary to define and reserve within its suburban zone the territory for construction of objects of industrial sector, including sites of innovative development (technology parks, industrial parks, transport and logistics centers). This choice should be associated with the planning organization and development of transport infrastructure in the region. The most promising of these positions are areas close to road junctions of international and national importance. Urban planning proposals for the formation of innovative production areas should be reflected in the development of investment passports of local communities in the region as a key marketing tool for informing the domestic and international business environment and promoting them to the external level to potential investors.

Purpose – The paper is intended to identify the role and activity of universities in building up business environment infrastructure in Poland. It analyses centres that support innovation processes and entrepreneurship co-established by higher education institutions, such as technology and academic incubators, technology transfer centres, and science and technology parks. Research method – The research methods include: a critical analysis of subject-matter literature, the analysis of the existing data (reports and expert opinions), and three casual interviews with leaders of innovation and entrepreneurship centres in Poland. Results – After a period of dynamic development (which ended in 2012), the number of business support institutions is declining. The trend is observed, in particular, amongst technology parks and incubators. On the other hand, the engagement of universities in the development of technology transfer centres is growing while the population of university start-up incubators remains stable. The number and power of entrepreneurship and innovation support centres are strongly correlated with the economic strength of regions and their position as academic centres. University and business collaboration has been expanding together with the density of regional relationships. Originality / value – The article assesses the state and quality of operation of the academic business environment and its transformation in the last decade.
