Purpose – The aim of the article is to study the changes of disposable income and consumption expenses in pensioners’ households in the years 2010-2019 and the attempt to draw conclusions corresponding to the deepening process of society ageing.Research method – Categories of disposable income and consumption expenses as well as selected issues from the field of demographic transformations were presented in the theoretical considerations, using the descriptive analysis method. The basis of empirical considerations were secondary data from the Central Statistical Office. Conclusions – The average amount of pension benefits in the common occupational system is generally lower than the average work income and it can be claimed that it gets lower systematically. Disposable incomes in pensioners’ households in 2019 were about 50% higher than in 2010. This tendency was reflected in the increase (of about 3% a year on average) of real expenses on con-sumption produce and services per capita in households. The increase was comparable to the general increase of consumption expenses of households in Poland. In the years 2010-2019 expenses related to food, house maintenance and energy carriers were increasing more slowly than the rise of income.Originality / value / implications / recommendations – Conducted considerations constitute a point of view in the evaluation of the changes in the income situation of pensioners’ households in view of the deepening process of ageing of the Polish society. In times of extensive demographic changes related to the ongoing process of society ageing, the elderly constitute a numerous and important consumer group on the market.

Purpose – An indication that complexity economics proposes a more adequate description of economic phenomena and the basis of a strategy to combat the COVID-19 pandemic than traditional economics, which may be the beginning of a breakthrough in the development of economic sciences. Research method – Analysis of the literature on the subject and deductive reasoning. Results – The adoption of the complexity economics perspective in the description of the phenomena accompanying the pandemic allows for a credible explanation of the problems and limitations of the anti-coronavirus policy and provides an interesting basis for an action strategy that gives a chance to use the current crisis to initiate economic development processes more adequate to contemporary economic, ecological and social challenges, and also to revise the hitherto achievements of economic science. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – The article is a contribution to the discussion on the economic aspects of the pandemic and the theory of economics, it is also an original interpretation of the theses of complexity economics in the context of the COVID-19 problem.

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to identify and indicate the basic issues of employee moni-toring that arise in the field of economic and legal sciences from the perspective of employers, such as the factors motivating employers to use various forms of employee monitoring, current conditions of such activities resulting from state law and the European Union law, as well as potential threats to employers using broadly understood monitoring. Research method – Dogmatic and statistical methods, the analysis of legal acts and research results, as well as literature studies and observations of practice were used to prepare the article. Results – The possibility of using modern technologies to monitor employees is an important tool in the pursuit of effective organization of working time, although there is a lack of studies showing whether the monitoring methods offered on the market actually increase work efficiency. The actual needs of employers with regard to various forms of monitoring are not reflected in the provisions of the Labor Code. Employers should approach employee monitoring with caution, because inapprop-riate actions in this area may have negative effects.Originality / value / implications / recommendations – The article concerns issues of significant impor-tance from the perspective of not only Poland, but also other European Union countries, current in the realities of the pandemic and based on the latest legal regulations.

They provided the basis for creating rankings and for studying the stability of results. The results were compared with the WIG and WIG-ESG index results. Results – The studied socially responsible funds noted lower results in the period directly before the pandemic. In the pandemic period, they, however, noted higher results than the WIG index.Originality / value / implications / recommendations – The paper bridges the research gap pertaining to the research on the results of Polish socially responsible funds during the pandemic period. The article, according to the authors’ knowledge, is one of the first papers in Poland which studies the results of socially responsible funds during the pandemic period.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe the public procurement law in the interwar Poland, preceded by its genesis. The significance of the law regulating the process of public funds expenditure derived from these funds coming largely from the state budget, and the public sector being a very important client on the domestic market. The adopted solutions had to take into account economic problems of the Polish state in the discussed period. Research method – Legislative and parliamentary material analysis was conducted, and a literature review was undertaken. Result – The pre-war Polish procurement law was enacted in a difficult domestic economic context. The legislator had to account for this and establish appropriate domestic market conditions, primarily for Polish entrepreneurs. In the 1920s, the legal regulations of the former partitioning states were applied. The 1930s brought uniform legislation for the entire country. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – Public procurement is a very important element of public finance. The rules that organize it, embodied in legal regulations, are an essential part of public funds spending transparency. Pre-war public procurement law became the basis for solutions adopted in Poland after the year 1989.

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to show the impact of the economic system (economic model) on the rate of economic growth and its fluctuations. Research method – Various research methods were used, including: descriptive analysis, comparative analysis of the economic systems and the analysis of statistical data on economic growth in 12 countries. The quantitative analysis was based on the latest available statistical data from the Eurostat and the World Bank database. Results – The economic growth rate and its fluctuations vary across countries. However, some of them are very similar. Most often these are the countries with a similar economic system. The countries that represent the Mediterranean model and the social market economy model are the most similar. We can also speak of a certain similarity in the case of countries belonging to the neoliberal model, and its lack in the welfare state model. Countries representing the Mediterranean model cope with economic growth and its stability in the worst way. On the other hand, the stability of economic growth and good coping with cyclicality are characteristic of the countries implementing the social market economy model. Originality /value – This article deals with issues that are rarely discussed in the literature. So, to some extent, it completes the existing research gap.

Purpose – The aim of the presented article is to assess the impact of the capacity to absorb business advice on the improvement of business knowledge, and indirectly, on raising the level of strategic and operational management in micro and small innovative enterprises using business advice services. Research method – A review of the literature on examining the specificity of knowledge and management development in enterprises, the role of business advice and the capacity to absorb knowledge in this process. The second part of the article presents the results of the empirical research carried out using the CATI technique on a sample of 400 micro and small innovative Polish enterprises using business advice services. Results – The use of business advice services and the level of knowledge absorptive capacity increase the level of business knowledge of managers. The capacity to absorb knowledge positively moderates the impact of business advice on the level of business knowledge of managers, and, consequently, on the level of strategic and operational management. Originality /value – The research confirms the influence of the capacity to absorb knowledge on the level of knowledge of managers. Improving the level of knowledge and business management requires the use of business advice as well as the capacity to absorb knowledge.

Purpose – The article aims at characterising Polish moratory laws during the Great Depression. The article is centred around the legislation on public and private law liabilities. The author pays particular attention to the structure of the Polish economy and to Poland’s deflationary policy that determined the Polish legislation of that time. Research method – The author reviewed the literature on the subject and analysed legal regulations. Results – The author indicates that – given the structure of the Polish economy – moratory legislation concerned the farming industry in particular. It was mainly of an anti-enforcement nature and consisted in reducing the interest rate and spreading the debt repayment over several years (particularly as regards private law liabilities). Originality / value / implications / recommendations – The purpose and functions of moratory laws were, and still are, of particular importance to the economy, especially at the time of economic crisis. This is exemplified by the moratory legislation of the Polish State that adopted and pursued the deflationary policy.

Purpose – The article points to the important role of the economic crisis of 1979-1982 in the process of the collapse of the political and economic system imposed on Poland after 1944. Research method – The paper written on the basis of the economic history method, makes an extensive use of the available literature on the subject, the published documents of state authorities, archives, statistics and legal acts. Results – The Author proves that the end of the seventies, which is generally considered the best period in the economy of the People’s Republic of Poland, brought about a crisis and a recession lasting four years. Their causes lay in the erroneous economic policy of the Edward Gierek’s team and in the deformations of the economy management system stemming from older times. The crisis of 1979-1982 showed that the centrally planned economy system in Poland had exhausted its possibilities and even external capital injections were not able to compensate for the low efficiency and the wastafulness in “the real socialism”. Originality /value – The article is a contribution to the still lively, often fueled by contradictory arguments, discussion on the fall of the Polish People’s Republic.

Purpose – The aim of the article is to review the research on the functioning of companies in technology parks and to try to answer the question whether companies located in such institutions are more competitive and innovative than those outside innovation centers, such as technology parks. Research method – The article uses the results of literature studies on the subject, the results of the author’s previous research, as well as observations of economic practice in the field of technology parks in Poland. Literature studies were used as the basic research method. Results – The summary of the research results does not provide unequivocal results as to whether companies located in technology parks are more innovative, competitive on the market than those outside of them. However, they indicate certain elements that distinguish park companies from others in individual areas and the methods used to study them. Originality /value – The review covers research from around the world and from Poland, compiled for the first time in this respect, including works published after 2000, covering technology parks of the fourth generation of development of such institutions.
