Students' mathematical problem solving ability is one thing that must be considered. This is because when students are given problem solving problems in the form of routine students are able to solve these problems, but if a non-routine problem arises, students will have difficulty. During teaching and learning activities students are able to solve problems when presented with questions of the same type. However, if given a variety of questions, some students have difficulty working on them. This study aims to explore and describe students' mathematical problem solving abilities in solving spatial problems. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data analysis technique in this study used descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the analysis show that high-ability subjects can understand the problem by writing steps, solving problems, re-examining the results of work very precisely and correctly. Students with moderate abilities can only solve problems without writing what is known and asked. Meanwhile, low-ability students cannot fulfill all aspects of mathematical problem solving.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to know whether contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach could improve students’ mathematical problem solving ability (SMPSA) in eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Binjai. The type of this research was Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research was students in class VIII-9 which consisted of 20 students. The object was SMPSA on cube and cuboid topic in eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Binjai Academic Year 2015/2016.This study consisted of two cycles.  Each cycle had two meetings. SMPSA was tested in the end of cycle. Instrument used to collect data in this research were test and observation sheet. After giving a treatment to students, in the first cycle, the average score of their mathematical problem solving ability was 2.30. Ten of  20 students (50%) obtained score ³ 2.67. The average score of teacher’s activities in observation sheet was 2.66, which classified as good category. The average score of students’ activities in observation sheet was 2.55, which classified as good category. In the second cycle, the average score of mathematical problem solving ability was increased became 3.05 with 18 students (90%) obtained score ³ 2.67. The average score of teacher’s activities in observation sheet was 3.44, which classified as very good category. The average score of students’ activities in observation sheet was 3.22, which classified as very good category. From the result of research, it can be concluded that the implementation of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach can improve students’ problem solving ability. The suggestion that given for teachers is to be able to implement contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach as an alternative in learning process that can improve problem solving ability. Keywords : Contextual Learning, Mathematical Problem solving Ability

AbstractComputer literacy has become an interesting issue in the field of education as the integration of technology in education develops rapidly and continues to increase in the future. One aspect of computer literacy teacher’s and student’s perceptions and attitudes to use computers for classroom instruction. Unfortunately, this has been a challenge for incorporating technology during the teaching and learning process. The current study aims to analyze the implementation of the use of a mobile laptop in the class and unfold the student’s attitudes toward using laptops during their learning activities. This research was a survey study that includes interviews, observation and documentation as a data collection technique. The subject of the study is 312 students from seventh to ninth grade. Data analysis was done by the following steps: data collection, data reductions, data analysis, and conclusion making. The study finds that 1) course content and learning activities have been predetermined/ predesigned and stored in the laptops, 2) every student have access to the device with the help of group work. The study also reveals that the attitude of students toward the use of laptops in the classroom process is positive in the sense that they show satisfaction on the use of laptops. They also acknowledge the advantages of the computer for their learning and show high awareness of the importance of keeping the devices maintained and secured.AbstrakSalah satu bidang Tehnologi pembelajara adalah pemanfaatan teknologi informasi sebagai media pembelajaran. This study aims to improve the learning process and the student’s mathematical problem solving skill by applying Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This type of research is classroom action research with two cycles. This research was conducted in collaboration between researcher and teacher of mathematics. Subjects were students of class  SMPN 9 Pekanbaru. Study was conducted in the odd semester   of   academic   year   2019/2020.   The   research   instrument   consists   of mathematical learning instruments and instruments to collect data. Mathematical learning instruments used in this study are syllabus, lesson plans, and activity sheets. Data collection instruments used in this study is observation sheets and mathematical problem solving tests. Data analysis technique in this study is analysis descriptive narrative of qualitative data and descriptive statistical analysis of quantitative data. The result of this study showed that the implementation of PBL improved the learning process and the student’s mathematical problem solving skill. The student’s average value in cycle I which is 70,27 had improved to 84,07 in cycle II. The improvement also found in the indicator average value in understanding the problem (94,99), planning a solution (69,71), implementing the pland (82,77), and checking again (54,85). This study concludes that the implementation of PBL improved the student’s mathematical problem solving skill at class  SMPN 9 Pekanbaru.
