The purpose of the study is to investigate the interaction among Physical Activity Levels (PAL), academic successes, perceived academic competency and Motor Skills (MS) of male and female students at the age of 14-17 in terms of gender variable. The PALs, perceived academic competency and academic successes were determined through International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Academic Competency Scale and General Academic Averages respectively. MS were tested by sit-and-reach flexibility, vertical jump, hand grip strenght and back and leg strength tests. After the data were entered into the SPSS 16,0 program, paired t-test was done in order to determine the difference between genders. Also, the interaction among PAL, academic success, academic competency and MS of male and female students were analysed through Pearson correlation analysis. As a result, it was found out that parameters related to the PAL and strength of male students are higher than those of female ones while female students’ academic success levels are better than those of male students. In addition, while no significant relation between academic success and PAL was found, a positive relation was determined the academic success and perceived academic competency of both genders.

The grouping system of students in learning can effect on the learning process. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to describe the perspective of students of the Arabic Language Development Program (PKPBA) on the classifying system based on gender, which is divided into homogeneous classes (separate classes between students and college students) and heterogeneous classes (mixed classes of students). Data collection used observation of teaching and learning activities and interviews. The results of the study show a different perspective between men and women. Female students are more comfortable learning in homogeneous classes, especially beginner classes' so they are not ashamed to learn and practice Arabic even though their abilities are minimal. In contrast to the perspective of male students who are more comfortable in heterogeneous classes, they feel they can learn better. Learning feels vibrant and increases academic competitiveness because they are challenged to perform well in front of female students, including when practicing Arabic. To make students learn better and the ability to speak Arabic tends to increase.

Abstract Language Learning Strategies (LLSs) as a pluralistic and pervasive strategic system (Yan & Zha, 2011, p. 1) always attaches great importance of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Numerous researchers have been working on this topic since the 1970s. Also, since students differ from person to person in their adoption of learning strategies and the research on differences in individuals develops, the topic of gender differentiation has arisen in the LLSs. Research related to gender and LLSs has been brought to the forefront in the last three decades, and many studies have found that gender can have a significant impact on LLSs (Zafar, 2012, p. 640). In China, most of the previous studies in learning strategies have paid attention to age, motivation, aptitude, educational level, good language learners, etc. But not much has been done in terms of the perspective of gender. Also, as one of the special economic zones in China, researchers may neglect the importance of Macau for most of them have focused more on Hong Kong. This paper then investigated the use of LLSs by a group of ESL learners in a Macau public university. It emphasized the gender differences and aimed to find out how gender affected the use of LLSs. Quantitative research method was adopted in this paper. A total of 188 ESL learners (M = 92, F = 96) participated in this study. The instrument Oxford’s 50-item Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire was used. In consideration of their English proficiency levels, Liao’s (2002) Chinese version of the SILL questionnaire was adopted so that it was easier for students to understand. Moreover, the statistical software SPSS 22.0 was used for statistical analysis. The major findings were that gender as a variable affected students’ strategy use with female students (`X = 3.26) more frequently used strategies than male students (`X = 3.22), and they both used metacognitive strategies the most (M:`X = 3.41; F: `X = 3.49) and memory strategies the least (M:`X = 3.01; F: `X = 3.11). In terms of gender and frequency of LLSs use, metacognitive strategies showed the strongest correlation (r = .88) and memory strategies showed the weakest (r = .64). To sum up, for students, they can learn English more efficiently and effectively with the guidance of proper learning strategies. And students with gender differentiation will use more useful strategies when learning a foreign language; For teachers, they can teach students with their actual needs with the help of learning strategies.

This study investigated the effects of immersive multimedia language learning technique on performance in English in terms of oral production skills in reading and speaking that involved six measures, namely, pausing, phrasing, stress, intonation, rate, and integration without the mediation of the first language of the students amongst both males and females. A quasi-experimental design was employed for the study. Eighty first-year university students enrolled in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) course were selected for this study and the teaching treatment was followed for eight sessions with one session per week. Data were analysed using one-way ANOVA. The findings showed that following the immersive multimedia learning, male students in the immersive multimedia group with peer support performed significantly better in four of the six measures of reading skills, namely, phrasing, stress, intonation, and integration as compared to their counterparts in the non-peer supported groups and there were no significant differences for pausing and rate. On the other hand, female students in the immersive multimedia learning with peer support group performed significantly better in all six measures of oral production for reading and speaking than their counterparts in the groups without peer support.  These findings showed that the immersive multimedia technique with peer support reduced the use of code-switching strategies by the students and enabled them to develop oral production skills in English approaching the patterns of native speakers especially amongst the female students.
