Objective: To compare actual tracheostomy tube sizes with estimated endotracheal tube sizes using age-related formula and tracheal diameter from preoperative radiographs among pediatric Filipino patients aged 0-18 years old undergoing tracheostomy. Methods: Study Design: Review of records Setting: Tertiary Private University Hospital in Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines Patients: Pediatric patients regardless of gender, aged 0 to 18 years old, with a preoperative radiograph of the trachea, and who subsequently underwent tracheostomy anytime from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2016 were considered for inclusion. Radiographs were measured, endotracheal tube sizes were computed using age-related formula, and recorded tracheotomy tube sizes were retrieved. Results: Twenty-two patients (12 males, 10 females) aged 10 months to 18-years-old (median age: 11 years) were included in the study. Mean tube sizes were 6.46mm (+/- 1.492 SD) for age-related formula, 5.67mm (+/- 1.1849 SD) for radiograph-based estimation, and 5.0 for actual tracheostomy tube inserted in each patient. The Bland-Altman plot showed the bias estimate at 0.7913 and the lower and upper limits of agreement at -1.3598 and 2.9423 (confidence level 95% or 2 standard deviations away from the mean). Conclusions: The average value derived from radiograph-based estimation is less than the corresponding average value from age-related formula. There is a significant difference between age-related formula-based estimation and actual tracheostomy tube inserted. Since the range of differences between the two estimation methods is high, these results imply that the bias or the difference between measures from the two methods is not consistent, with the two methods exhibiting very poor agreement. Abstract: Chlorine is a green halogen-shaped halogen gas at normal temperature and serves as bleach, stain remover and disinfectant. Chlorine is now widely used for bleaching rice so that less quality rice looks like quality rice. Chlorine is very toxic and causes mucous membrane irritation, highly reactive and very powerful oxidizer. The purpose of this research was to determine the difference of chlorine level in chlorinated rice washed once, twice and 3 times. The sample in this study amounted to 11 samples calculated by replication formula. Each sample was treated 3 times, ie 1 washed once, 2 washed twice and washed 3 times. The samples then examined by iodometric titration method. Based on the results of the study using ANOVA test, 11 samples obtained the average value of chlorine after washed once amount of 0.0176%, after washed twice amount of 0.0111%, and after washed 3 times amount of 0.0052% with the value significance p = 0.03 (p <0.05) at 95% confidence level which means there was a significant difference between chlorine levels in chlorinated rice washed once, twice and 3 times. The height of the maxillary alveolar ridge can be measured using panoramic radiography. The decline occurred because the height of the alveolar ridge undergoes slow physiological resorption due to the absence of mechanical stimulus. The purpose of this research is to know the difference and the average height of the maxillary alveolar ridge in edentulous and dentate women using panoramic radiography. This study is an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. A total sample of 40 women, edentulous and dentate has been measured. Measurements were made by measuring the distance between the lowest point of the infraorbital ridge and alveolar crest maxilla on the incisor point, right and left premolar, right and left molar. A statistical test is done using independent t-test. The results showed that the average value of a dentate women sample is greater than edentulous. The average value obtained by the dentate sample is greatest in incisor point by 37,57mm± 3,34mm and the smallest at the right molar point by 33,87mm ± 2,81mm. The average value obtained by the edentulous sample is greatest in incisor point by 35,30mm ± 2,79mm and the smallest at the right molar point by 31,84mm ± 3,85mm. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the height of the maxillary alveolar ridge on an edentulous sample and dentate, except the right molar teeth. The average height of the maxillary alveolar ridge in an edentulous sample is 33,35mm ± 3,43mm, and the dentate sample is 35,66mm ± 3,21mm.

Aim of the research was to find out and compare individual subsystems of selected types of aggressiveness and individual types of hostility within age categories of learners of sports hockey classes. Research sample consisted of sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grade boys from primary schools. Age of learners varied from 11 to 14 years. Total sample consisted of 120 learners. The research was it was implemented with the help of a standardized psychological questionnaire B – D – I. In the results we‘re comparing the differences in individual subspecies of aggressive behaviour and also in overall aggressiveness between younger and older learners grade. It turned out that in all of the observed comparisons older learners achieved higher average values of the weighted score than younger. The difference was confirmed also by the nonparametric Mann Whitney U test, which at the unilateral test of 5 % level of demonstrability tells that between younger and older learners there‘s statistically significant difference p = 0.031. Also, any increased value of the resentment didn‘t occur neither among younger learners who achieved the average value of the weighted score 4.19 nor among older learners with the average value of the weighted score 4.81 and therefore there is not statistically significant difference (p = 0.681). Our research revealed that controlling emotions such as aggression is very important. Therefore, it‘s important to pay enough attention to the young athletes and their coaches to prevent any manifestations of aggressiveness from their performers and to encourage them to play fair-play sports.

Background Thrombocyte and endothelial cells play animportant role in dengue hemorrhagic fever pathogenesis.Thrombomodulin is a part of glycoprotein membrane inendothelial cells. Therefore, thrombomodulin level willincrease if endothelial cells disruption occurs. Objective To acknowledge the correlation between thedegree of dengue hemorrhagic fever and thrombomodulinlevel. Methods This was a cross-sectional study. Subjects werehospitalized pediatric patients with age ranging from oneto 13 year old in pediatric ward at Pro£ Dr. R.D. KandouHospital, Manado, who had fever. Three milliliters of bloodwere taken from vein, and were divided for two tests whichwere routine blood analysis and thrombomodulin analysis.Different data resulted from the dengue hemorrhagic fevergroup were processed, and analyzed statistically using F Testand LSD (least significant difference) test. The relationbetween dengue hemorrhagic fever and thrombomodulinwas analyzed with Spearman correlation coefficient. Results There was a significant result in the difference ofthrombomodulin level on four dengue hemorrhagic fevergroups which were classified according to the severity ofdengue hemorrhagic fever. There was a very significantpositive correlation between the severity of denguehemorrhagic fever and thrombomodulin level in detectingendothelial cells impairment. Conclusion Thrombomodulin level can be used as amarker to detect endothelial cells impairment in denguehemorrhagic fever. Higher grade of dengue hemorrhagicfever will have higher thrombomodulin level.

We have measured with positron emission tomography (PET) the regional distribution of extravascular lung water (EVLW) and hematocrit (HctL) in normal supine dogs. H2(15)O and C15O were used as total lung water (TLW) and intravascular water (IVW) compartment labels, respectively. An additional plasma volume label (68Ga-transferrin) was used to determine regional HctL. EVLW was calculated as the difference between TLW and IVW. In 13 dogs, EVLW was relatively constant along a gravity-dependent vertical gradient, although values in the most anterior regions were statistically less (P less than 0.05) than those in more posterior ones. The average value for EVLW (13 dogs) was 14.4 +/- 2.5 ml H2O/100 ml lung. When EVLW was compared with IVW on a regional basis, the EVLW/IVW ratio decreased significantly in a gravity-dependent direction from 1.95 +/- 0.28 to 0.88 +/- 0.18. In 7 dogs, no significant difference between HctL and systemic hematocrit (average ratio 1.01 +/- 0.08) was found nor was any significant variation of HctL within the lung detected. Thus, in contrast to gravimetric techniques, a hematocrit correction does not appear to be necessary when regional EVLW is studied by PET.

Abstract Rationale: Rituximab dosing in pediatric patients is derived from body surface area-based “standard” adult lymphoma regimens. PK data for rituximab in children are lacking. Methods: We evaluated serum rituximab levels in a subset of 36 children and adolescents with severe cITP treated on a prospective phase I/II study. Patients received four weekly infusions, 375mg/m2/dose. Trough and 30-minute, 24- and 48-hour (hr) post-infusion levels were obtained with doses 1 and 4, and 7 days after dose 1. PK parameters were obtained separately for each patient at the 1-wk and 4-wk infusions by fitting a two-compartment model. Two-factor analysis of variance was employed to compare parameters between younger (2–9 years) and older (10–18 years) subjects and between responders and non-responders at the two infusion times. Results: Fourteen patients had PK measurements at week 1 and eleven at week 4 (Table). The median initial volume of distribution (V1), for all patients, calculated by back-extrapolation to t0, approximated plasma volume, 53 mL/kg. Kinetics fit a two-component model, with relatively rapid initial half-time (exit) reflecting distribution out of plasma space, and equilibration representing slow return into the vascular pool. The drug elimination half-time was too slow to observe in these 7-day periods. Apparent half-time for initial redistribution from the plasma space was significantly longer for younger subjects at week 4 than at week 1 and than for older subjects at week 4 (Table). By comparison, in studies of 14 adults with lymphoma treated with rituximab at the same dosage regimen, the manufacturer reports mean serum half-time of 76 hrs (range, 31–153) at week 1 and 205 hrs (range, 84 – 407) at week 4. In this PK sub-study, we found no significant difference in kinetic parameters between the 5 responders (defined by sustained platelet count >50,000/mm3 at week 12) and 11 non-responders. Conclusion: In this small number of pediatric patients with cITP treated with 4 weekly infusions of rituximab, the half-time was longer for younger subjects at week 4 than week 1 and than for older subjects at week 4. Trough levels at week 4 do not represent steady state because the elimination half-time is long. The reason for the difference between the two age cohorts is not readily apparent, but we propose that the shorter exit half-time in younger patients at week 1 compared to week 4 corresponds to a higher number of initially accessible CD20 binding sites (B cells) in young children. Objective: In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the compatibility of endotracheal tube (ETT) size used during surgery with tracheal diameter measured by computed tomography(CT) and classic formulas in children who underwent CT imaging preoperatively due to surgical indications. Methods: The study included preoperatively CT scanned, 0-3 year-old patients who were operated due to congenital heart diseases between June 1-October 1, 2018.Using the CT scans, transverse and anteroposterior tracheal diameters were measured from the subglottic level. As these diameters reflect the external diameter of the ETT, the inner diameter-which corresponds the ETT size-was calculated using a correction formula. Besides, Cole’s formula was used to calculate the ETT size for each child, and the tube sizes used during surgeries were obtained from anesthesia charts.ETT sizes were compared. Results: 43 patients (22 girls [51.2%],21 boys [48.8%]) were included. The mean age was 10.5±9.6 months. 18 patients (41.9%) had cyanotic, 25 patients (58.1%) had acyanotic heart disease.Mean corrected transverse and anteroposterior tracheal diameters at CT images were 4.35±0.69mm and 4.30±0.71 mm, respectively. The mean diameter calculated by Cole’s formula was 4.22±0.20 mm. The mean tube size used during surgeries was 4.37±0.60 mm. There was no statistically significant difference between the tube sizes used during the surgeries and the corrected transverse tracheal diameters from CT measurements (p>0.05). But the tube sizes used during the surgeries found significantly larger than the diameters obtained by Cole’s formula (p<0.05). Conclusion: In 0-3 years of age pediatric patients who undergo a congenital heart surgery, corrected tracheal transverse diameter measured by CT is more effective, reliable and less invasive than classic formulas for determining appropriate ETT size

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study is to describe whether tolerance develops in pediatric patients receiving chronic intermittent furosemide therapy, to characterize when it occurs and whether age-related variations exist. The effects of increasing total daily dose of furosemide and concurrent diuretics and vasopressors were assessed as secondary aims. METHODS Charts from patients receiving intravenous or oral furosemide for at least 3 consecutive days of therapy between June 1, 2013, and December 31, 2013, were reviewed retrospectively. Daily net fluid balance was used as the objective marker for development of tolerance. Net fluid balance (mL/kg/mg) was defined as the difference in a patient's daily intake and urine output (mL), normalized by weight (kg) and total daily dose of furosemide (mg). RESULTS Sixty-one patients, aged 2 days to 20 years (median 3 years), were included in this study. Median daily dose of furosemide was 1.96 mg/kg/day (range, 0–13.7 mg/kg/day). Average net fluid balance for all patients on the first day and last day of therapy was 6.83 and 26.66 mL/kg/mg, respectively (p = 0.011). Linear regression and Spearman's correlation found no significant relationship between age and difference in net fluid balance between the first and last day. Linear mixed-effects model for net fluid balance with day as covariate found that net fluid balance increases over time (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS Pediatric patients appear to develop tolerance to chronic intermittent furosemide therapy.
