Metabolism is a complex process that involves a series of chemical reactions in the human body. Alterations in these metabolic processes constitute the disturbances of metabolism causing metabolic disorders. When studying the pathological mechanisms of protein deficiencies it is necessary not only to take into account the composition of the diet. The liver is one of the most significant organs of regulation of vital processes in the human body. The basis of coordination of metabolic processes is the blood vessel vascular bed of the liver. According to most researchers, it is the consequence of hemodynamic disorders that are the metabolic disorders that are caused and then maintained by tissue hypoxia. Modern ideas about the morphofunctional organization of the vascular bed of the liver are necessary for physicians of practical medical practice dealing with both the diagnosis of the degree of changes and the treatment of the organs of the hepato-gastro-duodenal region. Of particular practical interest for surgical interventions in the hepatobiliary zone is the knowledge of options for the formation of arteries of the liver.

The combination of diabetes mellitus type 2 and gout is common. It has been established that prolonged hyperuricemia leads to insulin resistance and suppresses the effects of insulin, which is why the study of pathogenetic links in the formation of metabolic disorders in synergistic pathologies is relevant. AMPK has been shown to be a regulator of cell energy balance, which plays an important role in preventing the development of insulin resistance. The purpose of this review is to determine the impact of AMPK on carbohydrate, lipid and purine metabolism in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and gout. The realization of the effects of AMPK on metabolic processes in the human body occurs in two main ways — inhibition of anabolism and stimulation of catabolism, which will be discussed in the article. It is advisable to consider the mechanisms of action of indirect activators of AMPK as potential components for the comprehensive treatment of patients with metabolic disorders. The mechanisms of activation and inhibition of AMPK are not investigated enough, but it is known that AMPK plays a significant role in the main metabolic processes in the human body. The mechanisms of cell sensitivity to most energy‑containing molecules and substances directly depend on the AMPK activation degree. The presence of these dependencies may be evaluated in the case of metabolic diseases. Thus, further study of the effects of AMPK and its influence on carbohydrate, lipid and purine metabolism is necessary, due to the possibility of predicting the formation of insulin resistance, the severity of diabetes mellitus type 2 in combination with gout, and optimizing treatment in patients with comorbid pathology.

Selenium is an essential mineral naturally found in soil, water, and some of the food. As an antioxidant, it is one of the necessary trace elements in human body and has been suggested as a dietary supplement for health benefit. Although the human body only needs a trace amount of selenium every day, plenty of recent studies have revealed that selenium is indispensable for maintaining normal functions of metabolism. In this study, we reviewed the antioxidant role of nutritional supplementation of selenium in the management of major chronic metabolic disorders, including hyperlipidaemia, hyperglycaemia, and hyperphenylalaninemia. Clinical significance of selenium deficiency in chronic metabolic diseases was elaborated, while clinical and experimental observations of dietary supplementation of selenium in treating chronic metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and phenylketonuria, were summarized. Toxicity and recommended dose of selenium were discussed. The mechanism of action was also proposed via inspecting the interaction of molecular networks and predicting target protein such as xanthine dehydrogenase in various diseases. Future direction in studying the role of selenium in metabolic disorders was also highlighted. In conclusion, highlighting the beneficial role of selenium in this review would advance our knowledge of the dietary management of chronic metabolic diseases.

Os carotenóides são pigmentos naturais presentes nos alimentos, que dependendo de suas estruturas podem ser convertidos em vitamina A. Representam uma classe de antioxidantes encontrados predominantemente em frutas e vegetais, tendo sua composição e estabilidade nos alimentos afetadas por diversos fatores. O metabolismo dos carotenóides no organismo é um processo complexo, similar ao dos lipídeos e está associado a potenciais benefícios através de sua atividade modulatória. A sua ação, principalmente antioxidante, é dependente da capacidade do organismo absorvê-lo, armazená-lo e utilizá-lo em seus diferentes sistemas metabólicos. Diante disso é necessário compreender os fatores que afetam a sua biodisponibilidade. Portanto, o objetivo desta revisão foi descrever o metabolismo dos carotenóides, sua atividade no organismo e os fatores que podem interferir em sua biodisponibilidade. Palavras chave: Metabolismo; interações nutricionais, atividade modulatória.Carotenoids are natural pigments present in foods, depending on their structures can be converted into vitamin A. Represent a class of antioxidants found mainly in fruits and vegetables, and its composition and stability of foods affected by several factors. The metabolism of carotenoids in the body is a complex process, similar to that of lipids and is associated with potential benefits through their modulatory activity. Their action, especially antioxidant, is dependent on the body's ability to absorb it, store it and use it in their different metabolic systems. Besides, we need to understand the factors affecting its bioavailability. Therefore, the aim of this review was to describe the metabolism of carotenoids, their activity in the body and the factors that may interfere with its bioavailability. Key words: Metabolism, nutritional interactions, modulatory activity.

Background and objective: Oxidative stress and inflammation are key parameters in developing metabolic disorders. Hence, antioxidant intake might be an appropriate approach. Several studies have evaluated the effect of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on lipid profile among patients with metabolic diseases, though findings are controversial. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the effects of CoQ10 supplementation on lipid profile in patients with metabolic disorders. Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases until July 2017. Prospective clinical trials were selected assessing the effect of CoQ10 supplementation on different biomarkers. Two reviewers independently assessed the eligibility of studies, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias of included studies. A fixed- or random-effects model was used to pool the data, which expressed as a standardized mean difference with 95% confidence interval. Heterogeneity was measured using a Q-test and with I2 statistics. Results: A total of twenty-one controlled trials (514 patients and 525 controls) were included. The meta-analysis indicated a significant reduction in serum triglycerides levels (SMD -0.28; 95% CI, -0.56, -0.005). CoQ10 supplementation also decreased total-cholesterol (SMD -0.07; 95% CI, -0.45, 0.31), increased LDL- (SMD 0.04; 95% CI, -0.27, 0.36), and HDL-cholesterol levels (SMD 0.10; 95% CI, -0.32, 0.51), not statistically significant. Conclusion: CoQ10 supplementation may significantly reduce serum triglycerides levels, and help to improve lipid profiles in patients with metabolic disorders. Additional prospective studies are recommended using higher supplementation doses and longer intervention period.

Inherited metabolic disorders can cause heart diseases, cardiomyopathy in particular, as well as cardiac arrhythmias, valvular and coronary diseases. More than 40 different inherited metabolic disorders can provoke cardiomyopathy, including lysosomal storage disorders, fatty acid oxidation defects, organic acidemias, amino acidopathies, glycogen storage diseases, congenital disorders of glycosylation as well as peroxisomal and mitochondrial disorders. If identified and diagnosed on time, some of congenital metabolic diseases could be successfully treated. It is important to assume them in cases when heart diseases are etiologically undefined. Rapid technological development has made it easier to establish the diagnosis of these diseases. This article will focus on common inherited metabolic disorders that cause heart diseases, as well as on diseases that might be possible to treat.

The metabolic disorders are major health issues of today’s scenario and incidences of metabolic diseases increases day by day due to the disturbed pattern of life style. Ayurveda texts have described term “Santarpanjanya Vikaras” which resembles diseases of defective tissue metabolism. Ayurveda mentioned that improper dietary habits and sedentary life style affects state of Agni which resulted Ama production and finally leading to the metabolic syndrome. The vitiation of Dosha, diminish state of Dhatu and blockage of channels, etc. also can initiate pathogenesis of metabolic disorders. The Kayachikitsa branch of Ayurveda recommended use of internal medicine for the management of various metabolic disorders. Considering increased health burden of society due to the metabolic syndrome present article explore role of ayurveda internal medicine for the management of metabolic syndrome. The purpose of these studies was to determine status of metabolic processes in clinically healthy horses of sport breeds in spring period. Blood samples for biochemical studies were collected from 12 clinically healthy 7–9 month-old stallions of Ukrainian horse breed at Dnipropetrovsk region equestrian club. Protein (albumin, globulin, urea and creatinine) and mineral (common calcium and inorganic phosphorus) metabolic statuses, level of glucose, vitamins A and E and acid, as well as activity of hepatospecific enzymes (ALT, AST and AP) were determined using common techniques. It has been found that common protein level was within the limits of physiologic norm, although the level of albumins was decreased at the average rate of 12.0%, and the level of β- and γ-globulins was increased at the average rates of 5.2 and 11.3% respectively. AST activity was decreased at the rate of 38.0% regarding to physiological norm. Thereby, urea and creatinine concentrations were within the referent levels. Hyperglycaemia was observed in 50.0% of tested animals with maximal excess at the rate of 44.0%. Also, decreasing of common calcium and inorganic phosphorus levels was determined at the rate of 16.0 and 58.6%, vitamins А and Е — at the rate of 64.0 and 48,6% respectively, in comparison to lower level of physiological norm. The average index of acid capacity reached maximal referent levels. At the same time, it was increased in 33.3% of animals. Therefore, detected changes in biochemical indices in horse blood evidence that various metabolic disorders progress in clinically healthy stallions at spring and may furtherly lead to the appearance of metabolic syndrome
