The global commitment to fighting the pandemic is not only about medical and epidemiological work, but also about how information about the disease is disseminated. The threat of the Covid-19 infodemic is no less dangerous than the pandemic itself. The phenomenon of infodemic has distorted the work of science and reduced public trust in state authorities. This research has identified, mapped, and analyzed official government responses to fake news attacks on social media. This study uses an interpretive-phenomenological approach, related to the spread and belief of fake news about Covid-19 in Indonesia. Data analysis uses the Nvivo-12 Pro application, as an artificial intelligence tool to support data exploration from various sources. The results show that the quality of media literacy, public communication performance, and the effectiveness of government regulations have become part of the challenges in mitigating infodemic. The level of public trust in information from social media contributes to the decline in trust in fake news about Covid-19. Stimulation from the social media news that does not control the belief in myths and false information about Covid-19. Content creators who have produced, posted, and shared on social media channels that are less critical, have an impact on the infodemic situation. The solution is to increase media literacy education and the effectiveness of law enforcement in mitigating the infodemic in Indonesia.

The understanding of participation as a political matter has changed back and forth over the years. The latest twist back to appreciative attributions towards participation is fuelled by the development of the Internet, and especially the Social Web. Citizen participation is unanimously seen as an essential precondition for Deliberative-Collaborative eDemocracy (Petrik, 2010) enabled by Web 2.0. This paper considers participatory culture and its specific political, cultural, societal, and educational characteristics as a prerequisite for e-participation and argues that social media literacy is indispensable for e-participation to be sustainable. Young people’s affinity spaces (Jenkins, et.al., 2006) can only lay down the foundations for social media literacy, but their further development depends on education. Political Education would be well advised to adapt innovative pedagogical approaches to the acquirement of new media literacy. This paper introduces an exemplary educational tool – predominately but not exclusively for political/civic education – namely the website PoliPedia.at. Teachers can use it to deliberately create a balanced space for collaboration between Digital Immigrants and Digital Natives. PoliPedia – as a participative online tool – has the potential to facilitate participation experience in political/civic education and supports social media education. Thereby the embedding of technology in pedagogical and societal conceptualizations is crucial.

Beyond influencing the ways we communicate and we do business, social media is currently challenging traditional higher education in many respects: from the way in which courses are delivered and students interact with each other and with their lecturers to the content that the courses cover. In particular, the emergence of the social media specialist working in marketing-communications, creative industries or journalism, and their use of ever-changing content management and analytics tools require adaptation of courses to the constant changes in industry. Starting from two case studies of teaching social media auditing and analytics as part of courses taught in Belgium and Bahrain, this chapter aims to present a model exercise for marketing and public relations classrooms covering these topics. The discussion of the challenges of teaching social media audit and analytics emphasizes the need of more and constant collaboration between academia and industry as well as the need to ensure that students have a high level of media literacy before they embark on such a career route.

Viral events on social media are often made into the news. One of the social media viral events that made the news in mid-2019 was #JusticeforAudrey. Allegations of violence against Audrey made headlines in all mass media, including on Liputan 6 Siang SCTV. During April 2019, projections related to Audrey's coverage were submitted by producers every day. The news values that is the basis for determining the feasibility of an event to become news is no longer the priority of producers. This research paradigm is critical with a qualitative approach and uses the Fairclough Critical Discourse Analysis method. Theory of Political Economy Vincent Mosco explains the practice of viral news values is the practice of commodification of content and audiences. Viral social media events are considered attractive to internet users and expected to attract tv viewers. The practice of viral social media news is the commodification of content. Meanwhile, in the commodification of audiences, television news viewers in the form of rating & share are used as sales to advertisers, which in turn become an economic advantage for media corporations.

One group that has the potential to boost entrepreneurship, but is often undervalued is women. Although they consist of approximately sixty per cent of all entrepreneurs in Indonesia, they often face more challenges in comparison to male entrepreneurs in conducting their business ventures. These challenges include limited access to funding, multiple roles and responsibilities in the family and society, limited knowledge of information and communication technologies, and inadequate support system. Many women turn to social media to enable them opening a business that they can manage from home. While generally social media bring positive consequences to these woman entrepreneurs, the dynamic of the social media environment means that these women have to face obstacles to keep up with the technological developments and the changes of interactions that they bring to the business conducts and sellers-consumer interactions. This community service program aimed to provide capacity building training which focuses on women who own online micro businesses. Through this community service program, we introduced participants to the potential challenges that are brought by the changes in the social media environment. At the same time, we also assisted them in planning an effective social media communication plan that can help them to overcome these challenges. This workshop also allowed participants to network with other woman entrepreneurs that can potentially increase their social capital.

This chapter addresses the interconnected nature of social media use in higher education and business, exploring how educators and employers should use the social media literacy of “C-borgs” as a means of not just communicating with them, but allowing them to do what they do best – consume, create, collaborate, and connect with content. The chapter presents key issues educators and employers face when working to effectively harness the social media literacy of C-borgs, including: how their social media use differs according to their “mode” (work/personal/educational), how to strategically incorporate the C-borg's social media use into educational and business contexts, and how to utilize the C-borg's natural inclination toward a connected, content-centric lifestyle to facilitate educational and corporate engagement. The chapter concludes by discussing several key social media strategies educators and employers can use for harnessing the creative, collaborative, and communicative power of C-borgs.
