Abstract: The making of perfume from the combination Magnolia  alba (M. alba) flower oil, Cananga odorata (C. odorata) and Mimusops elengi L (M. elengi) fixed with Pogostemon cablin oil (P. cablin) have been done. Essential oil of M. alba and C. odorata was distilled by water distillation and extraction essential oil of M. elengi flower using n-hexane evaporated solvent method. Composition perfume through organoleptic test obtained with a ratio of 4% v/v, 4% v/v, and 2% v/v for each essential oil M. alba, C. odorata and M. elengi. Antibacterial activity of the perfume and each of the volatile oil was performed by the disc diffusion method. Antibacterial activity test showed that perfumes were able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria, but less active. Antibacterial activity of the perfume was more active against E. coli with an inhibitory zone of 8.3 mm and 39.81% inhibitory power  than S. aureus bacterial 7.3 mm inhibition zone with 37.55% inhibitory power. Perfumes after storage for  one, and two months had better antibacterial activity than before storage with an average inhibitory zone of 11-15 mm and inhibitory power of 50- 68,18%.   Keywords: Antibacterial, E. Peacock flower (Caesalpinia pulcherrima L.) leaves contain essential oils which can be used as an ingredient in cosmetics, perfume, aromatherapy, medicine, and supplements. The study was conducted to obtain essential oils from peacock flower leaves and determine the antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Antibacterial activity test was carried out by the agar diffusion method, using paper discs. Measurements were made for the inhibition zone diameter (IZD) that appeared, while the essential oil component was analyzed using GC-MS. The results showed that the peacock flower leaves (C. pulcherrima) had a moderate to strong antibacterial effect at a concentration of 7.5%-20% against gram-positive bacteria (B. subtilis and S. aureus) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli and P. aeruginosa). Gram-negative E. coli bacteria are relatively more sensitive to peacock flower leaf essential oil compared to other test bacteria. Peacock flower (C. pulcherrima) leaf essential oil is composed of 7 main components namely β-Cubebene 33.87%; Caryophyllene 23.00%; γ-Elemene 13.18%; α-Pinene 10.96%; Cadina-1(10),4-diene 10.20%; Copaene; 7.09%; β-Pinene 1.70%.

Tobacco plants are widely used as raw material for cigarettes, but the results of the study show that in tobacco leaves contain compounds that can be used in the pharmaceutical and health fields. Tobacco leaves contain essential oils that have a distinctive aroma. The study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of tobacco essential oil from six sources tobacco such as Temanggung, Yogyakarta, Purwodadi, Boyolali, Blitar and Probolinggo. Tobacco essential oil is obtained by the steam-water distillation method. Antibacterial activity evaluation was carried out by diffusion method and the minimum inhibitory concentration on two bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The yield of tobacco essential oil ranged from 0.54-3.39%. Tobacco essential oil had antibacterial activity against bacteria E. coli and S. aureus in the presence of inhibition zones in bacterial media. The biggest inhibition zone was in Yogyakarta tobacco essential oil of 26 mm for S. aureus bacteria, while for E. coli bacteria the biggest inhibition zone was Blitar tobacco essential oil which was equal to 21 mm. The inhibition zone was not much different from the inhibition zone in tetracycline antibiotic testing (positive control) which was 25 mm in S. aureus and 21.5 mm bacteria in E. coli bacteria. Tobacco essential oil from Probolinggo was able to inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria up to a concentration of 6.25% and E. coli bacteria to a concentration of 12.5%.

Genus Mentha presents group of plants which are the most studied in family Lamiaceae. Aboveground parts are used for different purposes in pharmacy, food industry or confectionery. Most important is natural product extracted from leaves - essential oil (EO). The aim of presented experiment was to demonstrate different chemotype and compare antibacterial activity of two Mentha species EO. Plant samples were obtained from various environments – from Slovakia and from Italy. Dominant compounds were determined by GC/MS. The results showed high amount of menthol and menthone in tested Slovak peppermint EO. On the other hand, carvone and 1,8-cineole were determinate as dominant compounds in Italian spearmint EO. The antimicrobial activity of the EO was investigated by disc diffusion and broth micro dilution methods. EO was evaluated for their antibacterial activity against 7 microorganisms: Enterobacter cloacae, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes. The determination results of antibacterial activity by agar disk diffusion method ranged from 7 to 14 mm of the growth inhibition zone. MIC of tested mint EO varied from 0.625 to 2.5 μg/mL. In addition, both EO showed relatively the same antibacterial activity against the selected Gram-negative bacteria. However, there is a variation in the antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria.

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract and essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves (Citrofortunella microcarpa) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The raw material of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained from the Village of Pondok Kubang, Bengkulu Tengah (3.70060S, 102.35780E). Ethanol extract from Kalamansi citrus leaves was obtained by maceration using ethanol 96%, then ethanol extract was made dilution concentration 40 ; 20; , 10; and 5%. The essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained by water-vapor distillation, then made variations of concentration 20;, 15;, 10;  and 5%. The method used to test the antibacterial activity is the paper disc diffusion method , the antibacterial activity is shown by the diameter of the inhibiting  zone formed. The data of antibacterial test result were analyzed by using One Way Anova test which showed the effect of treatment on the growth of test bacteria seen from the value (P <0,01) and continued by Duncan test to know the effect of the treatment. The results showed that ethanol extract of Kalamansi citrus leaves had antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria with moderate inhibitory diameter is  7.20 and 5.73 mm at concentration 40%, while antibacterial activity on essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is categorized as strong with inhibition zone diameter is 14.83 and 13.00 mm at concentration 20%.

Dental caries is caused by Streptococcus mutans, which lives in the oral cavity and causes plaque on the teeth. Dental caries treatment involves restoration or filling of tooth tissue that has been perforated due to dental caries. The purpose of this study was analyze the effectivity of  tangerine juice powder in preventing the emergence of dental caries caused by Streptococcus mutans. The experimental method was used in this study started by making a powder from tangerine jiuce using freeze drying method, followed by testing the antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion method. In addition, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was also sought by measuring the diameter of the clear zone. The results showed that tangerine powder has antibacterial activity, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 10%. The highest activity of tangerine powder to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria was observed at   concentration of 25% with an inhibition zone diameter of 15.8 mm, and is classified as having moderate inhibitory power. According to the result of this study is that tangerine juice powder has a good antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans and can be developed into a pharmaceutical ingredients to prevent dental caries.

<p>Lactic acid bacteria has been used as biopreservatif becouse produce a number of antibacterial<br />substances are safety and has inhibitory activity against enteropatogenic bacteria. The aims of this study<br />were to screen of antibacterial compounds produced by Lactobacillus plantarum NS (9) and to produce<br />their antibacterial compounds. The research was devided into two stages. In the first stage was L. plantarum<br />NS (9) inoculated at 37°C, for 24 hours in semi-anaerobic conditions. The cell-free supertnatant was given<br />three treatment, ie not neutralized (A), neutralized (pH 7) (N), and precipitated with ammonium sulfate<br />50% (P). This three supernatant was assayed their antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. typhimurium<br />ATCC 14028, S. aureus, B. cereus and L. monocytogenes using the agar well diffusion method. In the second<br />stage, production of antibacterial compound was L. plantarum NS (9) inoculated at 37°C, for 24 hours<br />in semi-anaerobic conditions. The Dencity Optical, value pH, acid total and antibacterial activity were<br />measured every three hours during growth of bacteria. The results of the antibacterial screening showed<br />that L. plantarum NS (9) produced inhibitory zone againts the five indicator bacteria from a supernatant,<br />whereas N and P supernatant were not produced inhibitory zone. This result indicated that inhibition.</p><p>produced at 6 hours of incubation and were increased to simultaneously with increasing of bacteria growth.<br />The highest antibacterial activity against E. coli, B. cereus and L.monocytogenes were produced at the end<br />of the exponential growth phase (12 -15 hours incubation) while against S. aureus and S. typhimurium<br />ATCC 14028 at 21 and 24 hour of incubation, respectively. The antibacterial activity also was increased to<br />simultaniously with increasing of acid total (1.350 to 4.050%) and decreasing of pH value (6-4) during<br />growth of bacteria.<br /><br /></p>

Periodontal disease is the second common oral health disease after dental caries. Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans are the main species of bacteria that cause periodontitis. Improper use of antibiotics can cause bacterial resistence to antibiotics. Essential oil from Pogostemon cablin, Benth leaf is an essential oil from herb contains eugenol and terpenoid compounds which can be used as an alternative antimicrobial agent. The purpose of this research was to know the difference of inhibitory effect of Pogostemon cablin, Benth leaf essential oil to Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans.The method of this research was experimental laboratories with posttest only control group design. This Research was done using disc diffusion method on the Mueller Hinton Agar. The inhibition zone around the disc was measured by sliding caliper. The results were analyzed with non parametric test Mann Whitney.The results showed that Pogostemon cablin, Benth leaf essential oil had the inhibition zone. The inhibition zone againts Porphyromonas gingivalis was 13,47 mm and 41,15 mm on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. The statistical test showed that Pogostemon cablin, Benth leaf essential oil can inhibit both bacterial growth with the bigger inhibition was on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans bacteria growth.

The Phytochemical screening test to identify secondary metabolites of Saputangan leaves extract (Maniltoa grandiflora (A.Gray) Scheff) showed positive results on phenolic and terpenoid compounds. The reagent used for phenolic screening was 5% FeCl3 and reagent for screening terpenoid was 1% CeSO4 in 10% H2SO4. Antibacterial test was carried out by agar diffusion method on extracts of DMSO Saputangan leaves. Phenolic compound obtained from extract of Saputangan leaves were 36.96 gram where the result was obtained after maceration, partitioning and evaporation processes. Antibacterial of phenolic compound was observed based on inhibitory zone diameters of phenolic compounds formed using paper discs with a diameter of 6 mm. The diameters of the inhibition zone against Escherichia coli bacteria are 8.1; 8.5 and 9.7 mm larger than the diameter of the inhibition zone in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at 7.3; 7.8 and 8.5 mm. Then it can be stated that DMSO extracts of phenolic compound with concentrations (0.25; 0.50 and 1.00 mg / ml) have antibacterial strength at the medium level where the average inhibition zone of S. aureus bacteria is 7.87 mm and the average inhibition zone in E. coli bacteria is 8.76 mm.

Two Indian spices,Trachyspermum ammiandMyristica fragrans,were studied for their essential oil (EO) yielding pattern, insecticidal activity, antibacterial activity, and composition. The essential oils (EOs) ofT. ammi(1.94±30 mL/100 gm) andM. fragrans(5.93±90 mL/100 gm) were extracted using hydrodistillation method. In Gas Chromatography analysis, the beta-pinene, alpha-pinene, alpha-p-menth-1-en-4-ol, Limonene, and elemicin were found as major constituents ofT. ammiessential oil whereasM. fragransessential oil mostly contains Gamma-Terpinolene, p-Cymene, Thymol, and beta-pinene. The insecticidal activities of EO were demonstrated using LC50values againstPlodia interpunctellaand EO ofT. ammiwas found comparatively more effective than EO ofM. fragrans.Further, individual EO and combination of essential oil were examined for antibacterial activity against three Gram (−) bacterial strains (E. coli-MTCC 443,P. vulgaris-MTCC 1771, andK. pneumoniae-MTCC number 7028) and three Gram (+) bacterial strains (S. aureus-MTCC 3381,B. subtilis-MTCC 10619, andB. megaterium-MTCC 2412) by well agar diffusion method. The essential oil in combination (CEO) exhibited higher antibacterial activity as compared with individual essential oils.

Objectives: This research aims to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds and antibacterial activity of stem bark extract Melochia umbellata (Houtt) Stapf var. degrabrata.Methods: M. umbellata stem bark was extracted by maceration using methanol solvent. Separation and purification were done by partitioning, fractionation with chromatography, and recrystallization. Antibacterial activity test of hexane extract and third isolate from the bark of M. umbellata was done by agar diffusion method against bacterium Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Results: Phytochemical test showed that the hexane extracts of bark M. umbellata containing alkaloids and triterpenoids. Isolate D is a triterpenoid group compound, while FKa and FKb are steroid group compound. The hexane extract had the highest antibacterial activity against B. subtilis bacteria with inhibitory zone diameter 12.0 mm. Isolate D has a weak inhibitory effect on all test bacteria. The highest diameters inhibition zone of isolated FKa compound against B. subtilis and S. aureus bacteria was 18.0 mm and 13.0 mm, respectively, whereas, the highest diameter inhibition of zone FKb compound against B. subtilis bacteria with inhibitory zone was 12.0 mm.Conclusion: The FKa compound from the bark of M. umbellata has the potential to be antibacterial because the compound is able to inhibit bacterial growth with ˃14 mm obstacle zone, especially against B. subtilis bacteria.
