This article measures wealth levels and inequalities among the Muslim population of 18th-century Ottoman Kastamonu by utilizing information found in estate inventories (terekes). Also developed is a quantitative methodology that can predict the economic worth of specific noneconomic markers of social, religious, and gender identity, including honorific titles, religious epithets, and occupational markers. Our calculations indicate that inequality among different segments of the Muslim community was pronounced. Men from higher echelons of the military and religious establishments, as well as individuals who carried the epithet “pilgrim” (elhac), were significantly wealthier than the rest of the society. At the same time, economic disparities cut across career lines and title/epithet-based distinctions among legators. Finally, the regression analysis introduced in this article reveals that wealth transfers across generations may have contributed greatly to overall wealth levels.

When it comes to zakat obligations, people only know certain types of zakat that are obligated to be issued. There are two types of zakat; zakat fitrah and zakat property. However, zakat’s division may vary according to the state's fatwa. In Selangor, Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) is the body that governs the administration and implementation of Zakat. The breakdown of zakat property is Zakat on Income, Zakat on Business, Zakat on Savings, Zakat on Gold and Silver, Zakat on Investments and Shares, Zakat on KWSP, Zakat on Paddy, Zakat on Agriculture, Zakat on Wealth and Treasure, and the Zakat on Takaful. However, this study will only focus on Zakat Takaful. Under Zakat Takaful, there are several divisions which are Zakat Wang Takaful/Takaful Investment, Zakat on Maturity Policy, Takaful Compensation, Tabarruq Fund, Benefit of Total and Permanent Disability, and Compensation of Conventional Insurance Policy. Each of these sections has its calculation method which will be explained further. This study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge and acceptance of Takaful Muslim consumers on the implementation of Zakat Takaful that has been introduced by LZS. Besides, this study will also look at the knowledge of Takaful agents and their willingness to disseminate information of Zakat Takaful to their customers. This study was conducted by using the sampling method and descriptive data analysis. The study found that on average, respondents' knowledge on Zakat Takaful is low with a mean of 2.32. However, the mean for acceptance is 3.93 which is set at a high level thus showed a good acceptance of the survey respondents. Through this study, it can be concluded that knowledge and acceptance are both very important in achieving the objective of implementing Zakat Takaful. Knowledge by Takaful participants who are also assisted by agents who play the role of conveying knowledge of Zakat Takaful is directly perceived to have a more effective effect in addition to the behavior/attitude that forms the intention of Takaful participnts to accept the implementation and to pay Zakah Takaful. This study is also expected to be the push factor among the zakat agents to play a role in disseminating the right information about Zakat Takaful to their customers, which also can be regarded as one of the da'wah forms.

Introduction The low adherence to vasectomy is associated with the cultural environment, with false beliefs, and with lack of knowledge. In Colombia, the practice of vasectomy increased 3% between 1990 and 2015. Medical education seeks to have an impact on the general population; therefore, medicine students should have knowledge and attitudes toward birth control that include a significant participation of the male gender. Objective To describe the level of knowledge, beliefs, and acceptance of vasectomy in a sample of Colombian medicine students. Methods Cross-sectional descriptive study, nonprobabilistic sample by convenience with a total of 112 medicine students from different universities of the country attending at a university event. A total of 20 dichotomous questions were used. Results A total of 72.3% of the students answered correctly most of the answers; the knowledge level was grouped in high (53.35%), medium (41.07%), and low (5.35%). Up to 95.5% of the students recognized vasectomy as a male birth control method. Regarding beliefs, > 99% considered that family planning is not just a responsibility of women, although only 75% of the men would accept undergo a vasectomy. Conclusions Colombian medicine students have a good level of knowledge about vasectomy, they recommend performing the surgery, and recognize the active participation of males in contraception; nevertheless, a higher willingness to perform a vasectomy would be expected from this population. Training on the subject would break barriers about beliefs and promote proper counseling in birth control consultations.

Background & objective: Diabetic-foot care or diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) care is a vital aspect of care for diabetic patients. It is conceived that nurses placed in a diabetic hospital are knowledgeable and efficient in the management of diabetic ulcer care. But how efficiently they are providing this service has not yet been formally evaluated. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the nurses’ “diabetic foot care behavior” at the BIRDEM (Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders), Dhaka. Methods: This study was carried out on nurses having at least one year of experience in “diabetic foot” care (preventive, curative and rehabilitative services) in BIRDEM General Hospital (the largest Diabetic Footcare Hospital in Bangladesh) between July 2019 to December 2019. A total of 207 Senior Staff nurses or nurses working in the surgical wards or in the outpatient departments (OPDs) were consecutively included in the study. A pre-structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices of nurses pertaining to diabetic foot care. The questionnaire, among others, included variables like age, gender, professional experience, and qualifications. The knowledge section comprised 15 items focusing on risk factors, descriptions, and the management of diabetic ulcers. The options provided for each question were “True,” or “False,”. A score of ‘1’ was given for each correct answer and ‘0’ for each wrong answers. All the 15 responses were then summed up to find the integrated score obtained by the respondents. The summed-up score was then converted into percentage of score obtained. The knowledge level of the respondents was evaluated in terms of Likert scale 0-4, where ‘0’ means poor knowledge (knowledge score ≤ 60%) and ‘4’ means highly satisfactory level of knowledge (knowledge score 91-100%) and ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’ means fair (knowledge score 61-70%), average (knowledge score 71-80%) and satisfactory knowledge (knowledge score 81-90%) respectively. Results: About 50% of the respondents were 40 or > 40 years old with mean age of the respondents being 37.4±10.4 years. The respondents were predominantly female (80%) married (75.4%). Approximately 80% of the respondents had diploma (basic nursing degree) degree alone, 14.5% obtained graduate (BSc Nursing) degree as well. Over half (51.1%) of the respondents had > 10 years of professional experience with average years of experience being 14.6 ± 0.7 years, but two-thirds (68.1%) had < 5 years and only 13% had > 10 years of wound-care experience. Nearly 40% had specific training on wound care. One-third (34.3%) of the nurses were placed in Internal Medicine Unit, 33.8% in Surgery Unit, 14.4% in Emergency Unit. Over two-thirds (68.6%) of the nurses were service nurses, 18.4% were supervisor, 3.9% were intensive care nurses and 8.2% were polyclinic nurses. The respondents’ level of knowledge was evaluated in terms Likert scale 0 – 4 (as described in the Methods section). Accordingly 30% of the respondents had poor, 8% fair, 47.1% average 2.9% satisfactory and 12% highly satisfactory level of knowledge. Conclusion: The study concluded that nurses generally possess an inadequate level of knowledge pertaining to DFUs, despite a positive attitude towards learning or acquiring knowledge about DFU and its care. A comprehensive educational program focusing on evidence-based practice is deemed necessary to ensure better clinical practices by the nurses. Ibrahim Card Med J 2020; 10 (1&2): 57-65

Ethics deal with standards of conduct and moral judgment. Every day nurses require to make ethical decisions during patient care. They should have good knowledge and adequate practice of ethics to make ethical decisions. The aim of this study was to identify the knowledge and practice of patient care ethics among nurses. A descriptive cross sectional research design was used to conduct the study. Simple random sampling method was adopted to select 108 nurses among 133 nurses working in a regional hospital, Pokhara. Self-administered structured questionnaire schedule was used for data collection and analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 20. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test was used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that 65.1 percent of nurses had satisfactory level knowledge and 76.4 percent had adequate practice level of patient care ethics. There was significant association between nurses knowledge level and professional qualification (p<.001). The level of practice does not have significant association with socio-demographic and job related variables. Similarly, no significant association between knowledge and practice level of patient care ethics was found. It concludes that the nurses with satisfactory level of knowledge and adequate level of practice are more than the nurses with unsatisfactory knowledge level and inadequate practice level of patient care ethics. Their practice of ethical principle is better than their knowledge in all principles except in the principle of justice. Nurses’ knowledge and practice of patient care ethics should be upgraded through educational and awareness programme. Janapriya Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, Vol. 6 (December 2017), page: 17-28

Waqf is an essential element in the development of Islam. However, there are many existing issues  in the management and development of waqf nowadays that inhibit the benefits of development to be enjoyed by the society. The Perak Ar-Ridzuan Waqf (WPAR) was established in 2015 with the aim to manage the development of waqf in Perak efficiently. Nevertheless, the issue of funding shortage to expedite the development has been the key issue. Therefore, this study purposively to identify the level of awareness of the Muslim community in the state of Perak regarding WPAR from the aspects of establishment, development planning, waqf method and others. This study employs the quantitative method through the use of questionnaire forms as the instrument to obtain the data that contains two sections in which the part A is for respondents' profile and the part B is specifically for respondents' knowledge on WPAR. A total of 312 respondents were involved in this study. Analysis of descriptive and crosstab were applied to analyze the gathered data. The finding of the study shows that the level of knowledge among the Muslim community pertaining WPAR in the planned development projects, waqf method and matching donation incentive prepared by the Maybank Islamic were unknown by the majority of respondents. Similar situations occured among respondents who are and had served as the mosque committees. The implication of this study proves that the existence of WPAR is still less known to the Muslim community in Perak. This condition needs a serious attention from the authority to ensure that the establishment of WPAR is able to attain its goal and realize all waqf development projects according to the allocated funding and time.
