The standard burn wound treatment is the application of silver zinc sulfadiazine cream, covered with sterilized gauze dressing. This method has been used for decades because of its reasonable costs and applicability for larger wound sizes. However, gauze with a large pore size may stick to the wound bed and cause wound trauma, leading to delayed healing. The patient may also experience additional pain during changing the dressing. The non-adherent property of a hydrocolloid dressing coated with herbal extract (SIHERB) can promote wound healing as well as reduce pain. This study compared the two methods of burn wound treatment in the same patients, who were split into a “treatment group”, who were applied both silver sulfadiazine cream and hydrocolloid dressing, and “control group”, who were applied only silver sulfadiazine cream. The studied outcomes were the number of days for wound closure, the percentage epithelialization, and the pain score (evaluated every three days until epithelialization was completed). In total, 24 patients at the Burn Clinic, Siriraj Hospital were enrolled on this study. The starting wound areas were ranged from 210–220 cm2. The treatment group exhibited significant results regarding faster wound healing, referring to the number of days taken for wound closure (18 days in the control group vs. 15 days in the experimental group) and the percentage epithelialization compared to the control group. The average pain score in the experimental group was also lower on days 9, 12, and 15 after treatment (p < 0.05). No adverse effects were observed during the study. In conclusion, the combination of hydrocolloid dressing and silver sulfadiazine cream could reduce the wound shearing force and wound bed injury, accelerating the rate of wound closure and decreasing the pain during changing the dressing. This technique could improve upon the standard burn wound treatment.

These experiments were conducted in order to compare the effects of extractum cepae, heparin, allantoin gel (CTBX) and silver sulfadiazine (SSD) cream on burn wound healing in rats. Thirty six adult, female Wistar albino rats were divided into three equal groups. A burn was made on the back of all rats. The burned areas in the first, second and third groups were covered with cold cream (control), SSD skin cream and CTBX twice a day, respectively. Seven and 14 days later, the rats were sacrificed and burned skin tissue samples were collected from the rats for histopathological examinations. Histopatological evaluations on the 7<sup>th</sup> and 14<sup>th</sup> days showed burn healing to be better in the CTBX and SSD groups with respect to the control group. The best burn wound healing was observed in the CTBX group (P &lt; 0.001). Wound healing was significantly different between the groups at days 7 and 14 (P &lt; 0.001). In conclusion, application of CTBX has significant positive effects on the healing of burn wounds in a rat model. &nbsp;

BACKGROUND: Burn wounds are inescapable life events especially in low income areas. Contamination of the burn wound site results in localized wound infection, hence the need for potent phytochemicals readily available for wound healing. The use of stem bark of Anthocleista djalonensis efficacy for burn wound has not been evaluated to the best of our knowledge. AIM: The study is aimed at evaluating and comparing the wound healing potential of ointment base of leaves and Stem bark of Anthocleista djalonensis on burn wounds created on wistar albino rats. METHODS: The leaves and Stem bark of Anthocleista djalonensis collected were extracted using 95%v/v methanol and phytochemical analysis conducted. Simple ointments of varying concentrations were formulated to screen for wound healing activity using the burn wound model on experimental rats grouped into six (n=4). Group 1 was treated with silver sulfadiazine cream (positive control), group 2 with ointment base (negative control), group 3 with 1% stem bark extract ointment, group 4 with 2% stem bark ointment, group 5 with 1% leave extract ointment, and group 6 with 2% leave extract ointment.  All animals were anesthetized before the creation of burn wounds. Measurement was taken on day zero and the wound was left untreated for 48 hours in order to allow bacterial colonization before daily treatment of the wound for 16 days. RESULTS: The result of the phytochemical screening revealed that both extract of Anthocleista djalonensis contains flavonoids, tannins and saponins. On day 2, 1% stem bark, 2% stem bark and 1% leaf extract had 16%, 15%, and 10% wound contraction respectively which was higher than the 8.5% wound contraction of silver sulfadiazine. Also as the concentration of the extract increased, the wound healing effect also increased as seen by the percentage wound contraction on day 16 for all treatment.  CONCLUSION: The findings of the study have shown that methanolic extracts of stem bark and leaf of Anthocleista djalonensis contained bioactive constituents which have burn wound healing activity. The stem bark extract showed better activity when compared with the leaf extract and also the positive control (silver sulfadiazine).

Burn wound healing process consists of three phases of inflammation, proliferation and remodelling. The number of fibroblasts has increased during the proliferation phase. Oxidative stress in burn may disrupt proliferation through TGF-β inhibition, result in decreased number of fibroblasts and poor burn wound healing. Genistein in edamame seeds has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Edamame contains vitamins A, C, and E which is also have antioxidant properties. Edamame has been suggested to protect burn wound healing from oxidative stress. This study aimed to understand the effectiveness of edamame seed (Glycine max L. Merril) ethanolic extract (ED) to fibroblast count in second degree burn wound healing. This is true experimental research with post test only control group design. The sample of this research was 24 rat models of second degree burn which was made by attaching hot metal (60 ° C) for 5 seconds on the shaved back of the rats. The sample was divided into 6 groups with topical treatment, among others: positive control group (silver sulfadiazine), negative control group (Na CMC 0.5%), group with ED 20%, ED 40%, ED 60%, and ED 80%. Treatment was given for 15 days and skin sample was taken on the 16th day. Observation of the number of fibroblasts was done by taking pictures of histhologic preparations in Hematoxylin and Eosin staining under 400x magnification of light microscope. In one way ANOVA test, significance value of 0.011 (p≤0,05) indicated that there was at least a significant difference between 2 groups. LSD’s post hoc analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the group ED 20, 40, and 60% compared with negative control. Experimental studies of burns require the use of different animal models. The aim of this work was to establish experimental model of thermal injuries and to evaluate the effects of topical agents on healing of the burn wounds. Forty female Wistar rats were randomly classified in 4 groups and isolated for 2 weeks before the onset of experiment. Animals were primarily anaesthetized with pentobarbital-sodium and then shaved (skin area of their back with diameters 5 cm x 5 cm). A round metal stamp with contact area of 5 cm2 and total weight of 100 g was heated up to 80°C and then applied without additional pressure on the depilated skin of the back for 14 seconds. This procedure produced a standardized burn wound. Induced burn wounds were immediately drowned in the 4°C-water for 3 s in order to maintain microcirculation. After the inducement of thermal injures, all rats were treated with 1% silver sulfadiazine cream, herbal topical preparations or were not treated at all. Burn wounds were treated twice a day until the healing completion. The result of treatment application was a significant reduction of burn wound diameters. Herbal topical preparations expressed positive therapeutic effects on the parameters of burn wounds. The efficiency of silver sulfadiazine cream in burn wound healing was significantly more expressed in comparison to healing process in control group of animals (p<0,001). We conclude that herbal topical preparations efficiently caused the completion of burn wound healing process without scar formation.

Abstract: Theoretically, batata, Ipomea batata L (Lam) theoritically can be used in wound healing since it acts as antiseptic, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory agents. Batata ingredients can also stimulate epithelialization in wound bed. This study aimed to obtain the role of batata juice in burn wound healing noticed from the inflammatory response aspect. This was an experimental study conducted in the research laboratory of Faculty of Medicine Univeristy of Sam Ratulangi. Samples were six rabbits divided into 2 groups: treatment group with batata juice, and control group without treatment. The histological examination showed that the quality of inflammatory tissue of the treatment group was denser, settled, and associated with edema expansion compared to the control group with diminished inflammatory components, edema, and vasodilatation, meanwhile, there were angiogenesis, improvement of dermis, and regrowth of epidermis. Sampel terdiri dari 6 ekor kelinci yang dibagi atas 2 kelompok: kelompok perlakuan dan kontrol. Kelompok perlakuan diberi jus batata pada luka bakar sedangkan kelompok kontrol tanpa perlakuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboratorium Riset Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi dengan menggunakan metode eksperimental. Hasil identifikasi mikroskopik menunjukkan bahwa pada kelompok perlakuan kualitas komponen radang jaringan luka bakar lebih padat dan menetap disertai perluasan sembab kolagen dibandingkan kelompok kontrol dimana komponen radang dan sembab berkurang, dilatasi pembuluh darah berkurang, pertumbuhan kapiler baru, jaringan dermis yang membaik, dan epidermis yang mulai tumbuh kembali. Simpulan: Jus batata tidak memperlihatkan penyembuhan luka bakar yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan penyembuhan luka oleh tubuh sendiri.Kata kunci: batata (Ipomeas batata L), luka bakar, kulit, radang, penyembuhan luka

Relevance. The risk of developing of diabetic foot ulcers is 25% over the lifetime of patients with diabetes mellitus. Inhibition of wound healing is associated with impaired macrophage polarization, decreased bioavailability of growth factors, enhanced activation of matrix metalloproteinases, which in turn is probably associated with severity of not only oxidative stress, but also nitrosative one. Objective. To investigate the indices of nitrosative stress in connective tissue regeneration in the healing of burn wound in rats with simulated diabetes, compared with rats without diabetes. Materials and methods. Two groups of laboratory rats of the Wistar line were used: diabetes mellitus and thermal burns were simulated in the experimental group (n=24), and only burns were modelled in the control group (n=24).  Diabetes mellitus was reproduced by administering of streptozotocin at a dose of 50 mg/kg to rats of the experimental group.  Thermal burns with a total area of ​​18-20% of the body surface were reproduced by applying of copper plates heated in water to 100°C to the skin of rats.  Animals were removed from the experiment by decapitation under thiopental anesthesia, 6 rats of each group at a time on 3, 7, 14 and 21 day of observation.  Concentration of inducible NO-synthase (iNOS), 3-nitrotyrosine proteins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were measured in tissue regenerate samples by Western-blot analysis.  The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) was determined in the blood serum of rats by reaction with thiobarbituric acid and subsequent spectrophotometric analysis.  The measured values ​​are expressed in arbitrary optical density units (arbitrary units, a.u.). Results. The expression of inducible NO-synthase (iNOS) was shown to be significantly decreased during burn wound healing in diabetes mellitus compared with controls at 7 and 14 day of burn wound healing.  Thus, iNOS level was 1.24±0.05 a.u. in the control group and 0.72±0.03 a.u. in the experimental one at 7 day of observation; 0.93±0.08 a.u. and 0.32 ± 0.02 a.u., respectively, at 14 day.  Statistically significant differences in the level of 3-nitrotyrosine compounds between the control and experimental groups were detected only at 3 day of observation: 1.0±0.05 and 0.69±0.04 a.u., respectively.  The level of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased significantly in the experimental group from 3 to 14 day of observation, from 0.77±0.01 a.u.  to 8.17±0.07 a.u., which indicates the severity of lipid peroxidation in diabetes.  A statistically significant difference in MDA levels between the control and experimental groups was observed at all observation periods: from 4.13±0.09 and 0.77±0.01 a.u., respectively, at 3 day of observation to 4.18±0.09 and 3,46±0.25 a.u., respectively, at 21 day.  A positive correlation between the level of malondialdehyde and 3-nitrotyrosine compounds (R=0.647; р<0.05) in diabetes mellitus is described, while in the non-diabetic group, it was negative (R=-0.528, p<0.05).  A decrease in the level of VEGF in tissue regeneration samples in diabetes mellitus was found compared with the control group at 3, 7 and 21 days of observation, which correlated with impaired expression of iNOS (R=-0.703; p<0.05) in diabetes mellitus. Thus, at 3 day of observation, VEGF level was 1.0±0.06 a.u. in the control group and 0.4±0.03 a.u. in the experimental group; on 7 day - 2.76±0.05 and 1.46±0.08 a.u., respectively;  on 21day  - 2.61±0.09 and 1.26±0.06 a.u., respectively. Conclusions. It is shown that in diabetes mellitus during healing of the burn wound, there is a local decrease in the level of iNOS expression, which leads to inhibition of NO formation and its physiological effects. Increased oxidative stress, while further reducing the bioavailability of NO through the formation of peroxynitrite. One of the important effects of NO during wound healing is the enhancement of VEGF formation. Shown reduction of NO (due to the reduced expression of iNOS) is correlated with the decrease of VEGF level in tissue regeneration in diabetes, which is one of the important factors of impaired wound healing.

AbstractBasic experiments have demonstrated that the effect of wound healing in moist environments is better than that in dry environments; therefore, research on moist dressing is the focus of wound healing research. 42 burn patients receiving treatment in Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital were selected as experimental cases. Wound surface is divided into treatment group and control group using a self-contrasted method. The treatment group received a moist dressing in the treatment of burn wounds and the control group adopted iodine gauze or Vaseline gauze coverage. Wound healing effect and the impact on the degree of pain of in the two different treatment methods were observed after treatment. The results of 42 patients were included in the analysis. The average healing time of patients’ burn wounds in treatment group is (10.9 3.3) d, and the average healing time in control group is (13.8 3.6) d, so, the difference is significant (P<0.01). Wound pain in the treatment group is significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.01). Using moist dressing (Mepitel and Mepilex, etc.) in the treatment of burn wounds, woundhealing time can be shortened and wound pain can be reduced significantly.

This experiment was conducted in order to compare the effects of Nigella sativa (NS) and silver sulfadiazine (SSD) cream on healing of burn wounds in rats. Fifty four adult, male Wistar-albino rats were divided into three groups of equal numbers. A burn was generated on the backs of all the rats. The burned areas in the first, second and third groups were covered with daily cold cream (control), SSD cream and NS cream (50% NS oil + 50% cold cream), respectively. Four, nine, and 14 days later, the rats were sacrificed and the burned skin tissue samples were collected for histopathological examinations. Histopatological evaluations on the 4th, 9th and 14th days showed burn healing to be better in the NS and SSD groups with respect to the control group. Wound healing was significantly different among the groups at 4th, 9th and 14th days (P &lt; 0.001). In conclusion, application of NS and SSD cream are effective in healing burn related skin wounds in the rat model.

ABSTRAKLuka didefinisikan sebagai gangguan pada fungsi dan integritas jaringan tubuh. Penyembuhan luka merupakan proses yang kompleks dari perbaikan dan remodeling jaringan sebagai respon terhadap cedera. Pletekan (ruellia tuberosa l) mengandung flavonoid, glikosida, phenol, saponin dan nutrisi yang diharapkan mempercepat penyembuhan luka. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi pengaruh  lumatan daun pletekan (ruellia tuberosa l) terhadap lama penutupan luka pada tikus putih (rattus novergicus). Penelitian ini merupakan studi eksperimental dengan rancangan posttest only control, menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 40 ekor tikus jantan dengan luka insisi bersih sepanjang 3 cm yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol dan kelompok perlakuan. Data yang diukur adalah rata-rata lama penutupan luka. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji mann-whitney dengan derajat kepercayaan 95% menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan rata-rata lama penutupan luka antara kelompok kontrol (8,45) dan kelompok perlakuan (3,75) dengan p-value 0,000 (p<0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat pengaruh lumatan daun  pletekan (ruellia tuberosa l) terhadap lama penutupan luka pada tikus putih (rattus novergicus).Kata-kata kunci: luka insisi bersih, pletekan (ruellia tuberosa l), lama penutupan luka.ABSTRACTWounds is defined as disruption of the function and integrity of body tissues. Data were analyzed using the mann- whitney test with 95 % confidence level showed a significant difference between the control group (8,45) and the treatment group (3,75) with p-value 0,000 (p<0,005). There was significant effect of ruellia tuberosa l to wound closure time in rattus novergicus.Keywords: wounds, ruellia tuberosa , wound closure time.

Second-degree burn is the most common type of burn wound in the clinics, which presents a deeper wound, skin blisters, white or red bottom, and thick and clear fluid inside, is sensitive to tenderness, and turns white by compression [1, 2]. The aim of this study is to explore the efficacy of applying silver-zinc bacteriostatic cream to patients with second-degree burn under targeted nursing intervention and its effect on wound healing rate. A total of 110 patients with second-degree burn treated in our hospital from January 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the research object for the retrospective study. Between the experimental group and the control group, no statistical differences in patients’ general information were observed ( P > 0.05 ); 1 week, 2 weeks, and 3 weeks after treatment, the visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores of the experimental group were significantly lower ( P < 0.05 ); and the total incidence rate of adverse reactions was remarkably lower in the experimental group ( P < 0.05 ). On the basis of targeted nursing intervention, applying silver-zinc bacteriostatic cream obtains an obviously better clinical efficacy than silver sulfadiazine ointment in treating second-degree burn and works better in promoting wound healing, relieving pain sensation, and reducing adverse reactions.
