The research and economic experiment aimed at determining the most effective ratio of milk and vegetable protein in whole milk replacers WMR. It was carried out in four groups of calves with an initial live weight of 39.2–41.2 kg at the age of 10–30 days. The research has shown that WMR No. 1 consisted of (% by weight): dried whey – 53, vegetable fat – 16, vegetable protein – 30, vitamin-mineral complex – 1, No. 2 – skimmed milk powder – 15, whey powder – 47, vegetable fat – 16, vegetable protein – 21, vitamin- mineral complex – 1.0, No. 3 – 30; 41.5; 16.0; 11.5; 1.0. The ratio of vegetable and milk protein in the experimental WMR is made: 46 : 54; 37 : 63; 27.5 : 72.5 respectively. 1 kg of dairy product contained: 16.9 MJ of metabolizable energy and 196-200 g of crude protein. There was no significant difference in the consumption of crude protein between the groups. This indicator ranged within 309–317 g. The raw fat level in 1 kg of dry matter of diets for young experimental groups ranged within 186.9-190.1 g, concentration of metabolizable energy in dry matter of diet in experimental groups is made 17.48–18.02 MJ. 12.4–12.8 g of digestible protein accounted for 1 kg of metabolizable energy. It was established that the total protein content in blood serum of animals in experimental groups ranged within 45.3–50.7 g/l, which is 7.1–19.9 % higher than the reference value. As for sugar level in blood, one can trace the metabolic activity of carbohydrate metabolism of experimental calves’ body. Feeding young animals with milk replacer promoted the increase of glucose level by 5.7–17.1 % in comparison with the coevals of the control group. As a result, it was determined that in control group the whole milk in diets allowed to obtain higher average daily weight gain of 565, and in the experimental groups – 435–505 g, which is 11.2–23.0 % less. The research has shown that despite of higher body weight gain in the experimental group IV, the lower cost of WMR in group II allowed to reduce the diet cost by 26.5–39.2 % and the cost price of weight gain by 18.0–29.5 % compared with animals of the control, III and IV experimental groups. Key words: feed, WMR, young cattle, performance, economic efficiency.

Total mixed rations (TMR) based on grass silage (GS), triticale silage (TS), mixture of GS and TS, barley silage (BS) and mixture of GS and BS were fed to fifty Hereford (HF) and fifty Charolais (CH) bulls. The proportion (g kg-1 dry matter [DM]) of the silages in the TMRs were as follows: (1) GS (600); (2) TS (600); (3) GS (300) and TS (300); (4) BS (600); (5) GS (300) and BS (300). Concentrate proportion was 400 g kg-1 DM. According to feed analyses, the GS had 15 and 8% higher metabolizable energy (ME) concentration as well as 51 and 49% higher crude protein (CP) concentration compared to TS and BS, respectively. Average DM intake (DMI) on TS and BS containing diets was higher compared to GS as a sole forage (p=0.001). Compared to the TS based rations the use of BS rations increased daily DMI by 5% (p<0.05). In CH bulls, DMI decreased 0.8 kg d-1when GS partially replaced TS or BS while in HF bulls the use of silage mixtures slightly increased DMI (0.23 kg d-1). The live weight gain (LWG) and carcass gain of the CH bulls were 5 and 26% higher, respectively, compared to the HF bulls. Inclusion of GS in the diet increased LWG and carcass gain with TS but decreased them with BS (interaction p<0.01). The experiment demonstrated lower feeding value of TS compared to BS in the diet of the bulls. Whole crop silage based rations increased DMI compared to GS as a sole forage in the TMR. When GS partially replaced TS or BS, interactions in LWG and carcass gain results demonstrated higher feeding value for BS and lower for TS compared to GS. Feeding treatments had only minor effects on carcass traits of the bulls.

The purpose of the research was to study the eff ect of the mineral complex “Availa Chrome 1000”, which used in the feeding of laying hens of the highly productive cross Highsex Brown under the conditions of the Research Center for the Safety and Eff ectiveness of Feed and Additives of the Volgograd State Agrarian University. For the experiment two groups of laying hens (control and experimental) have been formed with 70 heads in each. The diff erence between the groups was that the laying hens of the control group received a complete farm diet, and into the diet of the laying hens of the experimental group the feed additive “Availa Chrome 100” in the amount of 300 g/t of compound feed was introduced. It has been found during the study of the coeffi cients of digestibility of nutrients of the diet in the experimental poultry that the best digestibility diff ered laying hens of the experimental group where the additive “Avila Chrome 1000” in the amount of 300 g/t of compound feed has been put into the basic diet. It has been found as a result that the tested mineral additive increases the digestibility of dry matter by 3,09 %, organic matter by 2,59 %, crude protein by 1,35 %, crude fat by 2,16 %, crude fi ber by 0,63 %. The studied feed additive had a stimulating eff ect on the formation of red blood cells the level of which increased in the blood of poultry of the experimental group by 2,87 %. It has been found that in laying hens of the experimental group the level of hemoglobin was higher by 6,25 %. The use of the mineral complex allowed to improve the egg productivity of poultry by 3,3 % and increase the egg mass by 2,66 %. The inter-group economic eff ect for the period of experiment reached 573,43 rubles, so we believe that the use of organic chromium additives is economically feasible.

ABSTRACTThe effects of three levels of crude protein in the diet, 10, 12 and 14 %, on the performance of entire Israeli Friesian male cattle (bulls) during fattening, was studied in two experiments. The bulls were 5 months old and 200 kg live weight, and 7·5 months and 250 kg, at the start of Experiments 1 and 2, respectively, and were slaughtered after 178 to 268 days (Experiment 1) or 156 to 166 days (Experiment 2) on trial, at a live weight of 430 to 480 kg.In Experiment 1 mixed diets of two metabolizable energy concentrations (11·1 and 10·5 MJ metabolizable energy/kg dry matter) were used, each containing concentrates with 10, 12 or 14% crude protein content. In half of the treatments the crude protein content of the concentrate was increased by two percentage units for the first 61 days of the experiment. Daily live-weight gain was significantly higher at 14% and 16% crude protein than at 10% and 12% crude protein during the first 61 days for animals on the high energy diet, but liveweight gain was not affected by crude protein content on the low energy diet over this period, or at either energy concentration from 62 days to slaughter. In Experiment 2 the diet consisted of concentrate, wheat straw and cotton hulls, giving a metabolizable energy concentration of approximately 10·55 MJ/kg dry matter. Daily live-weight gain did not differ significantly between concentrates containing 10, 12 or 14% crude protein, but carcass weight gain was higher at 12% and 14% crude protein than at 10% crude protein. It is concluded that in order to ensure the best performance of bulls of the Israeli Friesian breed, diets with a high concentration of energy should contain 14% crude protein when fed to animals with a body weight of 200 to 300 kg, and 12% crude protein for heavier animals.

One hundred eighty hybrid broiler chicks of the Peterson x Hubbard line, in 18 groups of 10, were used to compare six diets (three replications). The diets consisted mainly of maize, soybean and fish meals, and vegetable oil, and varied in levels of metabolizable energy (kcal/kg) and protein (g/kg) as follows; (A) 3,000/230, (B) 3,200/230, (C) 3,400/245, (D) 3,400/260, (E) 3,600/ 260, and (F) 3,800/260. Mean values per chick at wk 4 for treatments A to F, respectively, were as follows: weight gain, 994; 1,053; 1,105; 1,055; 1,063; and 943 g; and feed conversion, 1.81, 1.71, 1.57, 1.55, 1.48, and 1.48 g/g. Weight (g) and yield (%) of carcass at wk 4, respectively, were 693 (66.7), 740 (67.4), 774 (67.3), 725 (66.0), 740 (67.0), and 653 (66.0). Sample evaluation of these carcasses and of locally produced and imported carcasses showed percentage of breast to be highest in the imports (30.8) and in treatment C (30.6). In the objective criterion of conformation [weight (g)/pectoral músete area (cm2)], carcasses of C (19.8) and E (18.7) were highest. Percentages of water and of protein in the dry matter (DM) were highest in imported carcasses (70 and 52, respectively). In percentage fat in the DM, those of A and C and local commercial carcasses were highest (42), and those of F (32) and the imported (35) were lowest. Diets C and E, which promoted rapid, efficient growth and desirable carcasses, are recommended for use with "Cornish" chicks.

Commercial samples of solvent-extracted rapeseed meal (RM), 44% crude protein soybean meal (SM) and 50% crude protein SM were evaluated for digestible energy (DE), metabolizable energy (ME), nitrogen-corrected ME (MEn) and digestible nitrogen (DN), using two methods of evaluation. A comparison of results from feeding the test meals for two different lengths of time prior to conducting the determinations was also made. Sixteen castrate male pigs were allotted to each of the two evaluation methods, with four pigs assigned to each of three treatment groups, and four pigs assigned to the basal control group for each method. The two SM samples had higher DE, ME, MEn and DN than the RM sample. The DE, ME and MEn values in kcal/g dry matter for RM were 3.37, 3.13 and 2.76, and for SM they we’re 4.42, 4.21 and 3.71, respectively. The overall mean coefficient for DN was 79.2% for RM and 92.8% for SM. There were no significant differences observed between methods or between the two time periods. The values for the basal diets were uniform throughout the trial, as indicated by low standard errors.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of multiple supplement with different levels of castor meal (Ricinus communis L.) treated with calcium oxide on intake, on the total apparent digestibility of dietary components, on the efficiency of microbial synthesis and on the performance of beef heifers grazing Brachiaria decumbens during the dry-rainy transition period. The experimental area was composed of five 2.5-ha paddocks with availability of potentially digestible dry matter of 2,858.4 kg/ha. It was used 25 Nellore heifers and 10 crossbred with predominance of Zebu breed heifers at 13 months of age and body weight of 210 ± 0.8 kg in a completely randomized experimental design. Supplements contained approximately 25% of crude protein (CP) and they were formulated with 0; 33; 67 and 100% of castor meal replacing soybean meal. Daily weight gain was 366.1 g for animals in the control group and 439.7; 478.9; 556.3; and 493.9, respectively for those fed supplements with 100% of soybean meal and 33, 67 and 100% castor meal. There was no effect of treated castor meal levels on daily weight gain of the animals, which was higher in those animals fed supplements. Levels of castor meal had decreasing linear effect on intakes of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), ether extract (EE), digested dry matter and digestible neutral detergent fiver and on the intake of total digestible nutrients. Coefficients of apparent digestibility of DM, OM, CP, EE and non-fibrous carbohydrates were greater for animals under supplementation. Microbial efficiency, expressed in g of crude protein per kg of consumed TDN, did not differ among groups. Replacement of soybean meal by castor meal treated with calcium oxide does not harm animal performance.

SUMMARYFifty-four British Friesian castrated male calves, initially 3, 6 or 9 months of age (107, 180 and 249 kg initial live weight, respectively), were individually fed for 83 days on maize silage (27·9% dry matter (D.M.), 10·7% crude protein in D.M.), offeredad libitum. Silage was offered either alone or supplemented with cobs of dried lucerne (21% of total D.M. intake). Three levels of urea (0, 1 and 2% of silage D.M.) were added to the silage before feeding.Total D.M. intakes averaged 23·0, 23·4 and 21·6 g/kg live weight (LW) for the 3-, 6- and 9-month-old animals, respectively. Addition of urea increased silage intake by 11% in the 6-month-old group but there was little effect in the 3- and 9-month-old groups. Lucerne supplementation reduced silage D.M. intake from 22·0 to 18·4 g/kg LW (P< 0·001) and increased total D.M. intake by 1·4 g/kg LW (P< 0·001).Live-weight gain (LWG) of the cattle fed on silage alone increased (P< 0·001) with increasing age of animal. The main effect of urea was to elevate (P< 0·001) LWG from an average of 0·79 (no urea) to 0·94 kg/head/day (2% urea). However, it appeared that most of this effect was confined to the 6-month-old group. The effect of lucerne on LWG decreased with increasing age of animal (P< 0·001). Inclusion of lucerne in the diet significantly reduced the response to urea (P< 0·05).Feed conversion efficiency (LWG/100 Mcal DE intake) decreased (P< 0·01) with increasing age of animal but increased with urea addition from an average of 4·7 (no urea) to 5·3 kg LWG/100 Meal DE intake (2% urea). The response to lucerne supplementation in terms of efficiency was greatest in the 3-month-old group and thereafter declined markedly with increasing age of animal. The results of this experiment indicated that cattle older than 6 months of age (180 kg LW) could achieve a rate of growth of 1·0 kg/head/day on maize silage supplemented solely with urea, but that younger animals required supplementary lucerne to support a high rate of live-weight gain.

Hungarian sainfoin was shown to be an effective perennial legume crop in the forage production of the Perm Territory. For 4 years (2012 2015) this crop produced forage mass, exchange energy and crude protein comparable to the ones of red clover and bastard alfalfa but exceeded them significantly in carbohydrate content. Haylage is the only type of winter forage that has sufficient concentrations of exchange energy, protein, carbohydrates and carotene, satisfying needs of highproductive livestock in nutrients. Haylage from Hungarian sainfoin was fed to Holstein BlackandWhite cows in the frame of experiments conducted in 2018. Cows consumed 2.3 3.9 kg more of dry matter (DM) with the haylage, compared to hay (control). Digestibilities of DM and organic matter were 2.55 5.80 and 2.54 4.14 higher than in the control group, respectively. For 120 days the experimental groups produced 3993 27.2 and 4144 31.9 kg of milk versus 3910 45.4 kg of the control one. The former also exceeded the latter in milk fat and protein contents. Fodder costs per 1 kg of milk amounted to 0.74 energy feed units in the control and 0.71 and 0.69 energy feed units in the experimental groups.

Abstract. This study was aimed to examine the excretion of urinary creatinine in young and mature Kacang goat bucks under different feeding levels. This study used 16 Kacang goat bucks consisting of 2 groups of age, i.e. eight young bucks (aged 6-7 months, weighed 12.75±2.68 kg) and 8 mature bucks (age 9-12 months, weighed 17.34±3.32 kg). The bucks were fed pelleted complete feed containing 78.82% dry matter (DM), 18.80% crude protein (CP), and 76.29% total digestible nutrients (TDN). The bucks were allocated into a 2x2 nested design with four replications. The treatment was the amount of  2.24% dry matter intake  (T1) and 4.48% of body weight (BW) (T2) for the young goat, while the mature buck was 1.87% and 3.74%, respectively. The results showed that DM, CP and TDN intake were significant different across ages and highly significantly different between feeding levels. Changes of urinary creatinine from week 0–12 showed no differences in the age group (142 mg/dl) and feeding level (143 mg/dl). Conclusively, age and feed level affected body weight, feed intake and creatinine excretion of Kacang Goat.  The more body weight gain (age) and feed level, the more urinal creatinine excretion in male Kacang goat. Key words: Kacang goat, ages, feeding level, and creatinine Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kadar kreatinin pada kambing Kacang muda dan dewasa dengan jumlah pemberian pakan yang berbeda.
