A comparative assessment of the fattening qualities of rabbits of different breeds on a farm with an intensive technology of rabbit meat production was carried. The material for the study was a herd of rabbits of meat and skin breeds: Gray Giant Flander, Californian, Silver Fox. The experiment was carried by the group method. For this purpose, 30 rabbits were selected at 45 days of age and 3 groups of 10 heads were formed. Analogue rabbits were selected by breed, age, live weight, sex. The experimental livestock was housed in a shed-type room equipped with 4 rows of mesh cages arranged in two tiers, in which bunker feeders and nipple drinking bowls were installed. The animals were fed with pellets compound feed with the addition of leguminous Herbal hay. Compound feed was distributed from bunker self-feeders, Herbal hay – from feeders (mangers). The rabbits were watered from nipple drinkers, which provided the animals with constant access to food and water. In the course of the research, the live weight of rabbits, absolute and average daily gain, relative growth rate and feed costs were studied. It has been found that the Californian rabbits fulfill their growth potential better than the Silver Fox and Gray Giant Flander rabbits. Average daily gains in rabbits of the Californian breed were 1.8 g higher compared to analogs of the Silver Fox breed and 1.18 g higher than in the Gray Giant Flander. In terms of live weight, at the end of the experiment, the Californian rabbits were dominated by analogs of the Silver Fox breed by 116.7 g and by 90 g of Gray Giant Flander rabbits. The level of profitability of raising young rabbits for meat of the Californian breed was 12.2 %, and the Gray Giant Flander and Silver Fox breeds, respectively – 3.8 and 4.0 %. An experiment has been conducted to determine the effectiveness of growing broiler chickens when whole wheat grain has been included in the compound feed. The purpose of the research was to develop an appropriate scheme and dose for feeding whole wheat grain depending on the age of broilers, while observing the normative content of metabolic energy and nutrients in the diets, and to determine the economic effectiveness of rearing of broilers. To determine the effectiveness, data on live weight, growth rate, livability, uniformity of broiler population by live weight and variability of live weight of chickens have been studied. In the course of the work, the livability, average daily gain, feed conversion, homogeneity and variability coefficients, and the productivity index have been calculated. An increase in the live weight of broilers, as well as the rate of growth in pre-slaughter age when using whole grains in poultry diets, as well as a decrease in feed consumption per unit of live weight gain has been revealed. In conclusion, the economic effectiveness of broiler meat production has determined when whole grain has been included in diets. The use of whole wheat grain as an additive to the main diet in broiler feeding allowed to increase profits and increase the level of profitability. It has been found as a result of research that it is advisable to add whole wheat grain to the main diet for broilers at the age of 8–14 days in an amount of 5 % of the feed weight, at the age of 15–21 days – 15 %, at the age of 22–28 days – 20 %, at the age of 21–29 days – 30 % of grain without reducing the overall nutritional value of the diet.

The article describes the use of “Tseostimul” mineral additives in the diets of rabbits, based on sorbents of Khotynets minefield of the Orel district. “Tseostimul” had a positive effect on the growth of live weight of young rabbits, hematological and biochemical parameters of blood at the same conditions of feeding. The most optimal dose of “Tseostimul” for these indicators was a 3.0% to the basic diet.

The study investigated different feed restriction programs during an 8-week broiler chicken growing cycle as a management strategy for reducing cost of production. Initially, 90 Hubbard day-old chicks fed ad libitum a commercial starter feed supplying 24% crude protein and 3000 kcal of ME/kg for 4 weeks. Thereafter, they were randomly allotted to five different feed restriction programs (R0, R5, R56, R67 and R57) utilizing finisher diets supplying 19% crude protein and 2850 kcal of ME/kg from 5-8 weeks. Each program had three replicates and six birds per replicate. Unrestricted (R0) was the control where birds fed ad libitum. In R5, birds were restricted the 5th week; R56, 5th and 6th weeks; R67, 6th and 7th weeks, and R57, 5th and 7th weeks. However, all the feed-restricted birds fed ad libitum in the 8th week. Feed restriction involved feeding one-third feed intake of R0 birds starting from 14.00 to 18.00 h daily and performance parameters recorded. Feed restriction negatively affected growth performance as the severity of restriction increased. Final body weight, carcass weight, average daily gain and average daily feed intake were similar (P>0.05) for R0 and R5 but higher than R56, R67 and R57. However, feed restriction did not significantly affect (P>0.05) carcass and breast yields or feed conversion ratio except for R67, the least (P<0.05) feed efficient. Feed cost, cost of production and revenue declined as the period of restriction increased. However, profit or profit/kg live weight, economic efficiency (EE) of feed and relative EE of feed were highest for R0 followed by R5, R56, R57 and R67 in that order. Generally, birds restricted for 1 week performed better than those restricted for 2 weeks and birds restricted continuously for 2 weeks before the last week of re-alimentation and slaughter were inferior to others. These results suggest that the duration and timing of feed restriction can reduce cost in broiler meat production without seriously affecting performance or economics of production depending on the restriction program applied.

In the modern world the technology of production becomes a decisive factor in the growth of the economic potential of all branches of animal husbandry, a profi table direction and object of application of capital and resources, an instrument of competition. Technology determines the level of intensity and effi ciency of production, its environmental safety, production quality, biological and nutritional value of food. In recent years, highly productive cattle of Black-and-White breed with a high proportion of blood of Holstein breed are used to produce milk. For expression of their genetic potential of productivity it is necessary to work out technology of rearing of replacement heifers as it is known that conditions of rearing have essential infl uence on further productivity of animals. From one-year-old heifers and heifers to 6-month pregnancy, the control group has been housed in a cell-group method on slotted cast-iron fl oors, and the experimental group has been housed in a loose-boxes technology. Diff erent ways of housing had an impact on the growth and development of animals. Heifers of the experimental group in the fi rst period of research from 12 to 15 months had a lower absolute gain in body weight, which has been associated according to our opinion with the stressful situation from the habituation of animals to each other, since the number of animals in the group has been increased by 2 times. However, by 18 months of age the live weight of heifers in the experimental group has reached the live weight of heifers in the control group, while they had a higher average daily gain by 45,1 g (P < 0,05). Further, the heifers of the experimental group were superior to the heifers of the control group. It has been established that the loose-boxes method of housing allows to increase labour productivity and accordingly the effi ciency of milk production.

AbstractWith the objective of determining genetic × environmental interaction for beef production under direct grazing conditions, measured as both individual average daily gain (ADG) and per ha (PROD), 160 steers were utilized through 2 years, from two breeds of different growth potential, and four stocking rates (SR) tending to establish different nutritional environments. The breeds were Aberdeen Angus (A) and high-grade Limousin crossbred (L) and the SRs established were 2·25, 2·87, 3-50 and 4·13 steers per ha. The pasture where the steers grazed was Festuca arundinacea. Response variables were analysed by least-squares using a fixed model of year, breed, SR and their two-way interactions. There were highly significant effects (P < 0·01) of the interaction of breed × SR for ADG and PROD. Quadratic and linear regressions (P < 0·01) were adjusted for PROD and ADG on SR respectively using the least-squares means. The proportional superiority of L on A at the lowest SR was 0·27, while at the highest SR the situation was reversed, A gained proportionately 0·32 more weight than L. These results indicated that under limiting conditions of nutrition as generated at the highest SR in this experiment, the small-sized individuals tended to produce meat more efficiently both individually and per ha, the opposite situation being true when nutritional conditions were not restrictive.

The authors studied productivity and product quality under industrial poultry production technology. The productivity of broiler chickens of Ross-308 and Hubbard Iza-F-15 was different during floor rearing. Broiler chickens of Ross-308 outperformed Iza-F-15 chickens in body weight and average daily gain. The live weight at the slaughter of Ross-308 chickens was 2,360 g. The live weight of the chickens of Iza-F-15 was 2088 g. The conversion of feed to produce was higher in the chickens of Ross-308 cross by 0,06 kg compared with the chickens of Iza-F-15 and amounted to 1.64 kg per 1 kg of live weight gain. The survival rate was high for Ross-308 chickens (95.8%). The safety of the flock of the Izu-F-15 chickens was 2.2 per cent lower and was 93.6 per cent. Slaughter yield in the chickens cross Ross-308 is higher than in the group of chickens cross Iza-F-15. Meat quality is also better in Ross-308 chickens. Growing broiler chickens of Ross-308 cross for meat under industrial technology allowed to get more profit compared to the use of poultry of Iza-F-15 cross. At the exact cost of feed, 1 kg of live weight gain was 7.1 roubles, and per 1 head of chick was 19.1 roubles. The profitability level is also 12.6% higher for the broiler chickens of Ross-308 cross. The cumulative indicator the European productivity index is higher for chickens of Ross-308 breed, compared with chickens of Iza-F-15 breed on 56 units. This index was 341 and 285, respectively.

Improving the efficiency of pig farming requires biologically complete feeding in accordance with the age, physiological and sexual characteristics of animals based on the knowledge of composition and nutritional value. The health and productivity of animals depends on the use of protein, fat, carbohydrates and minerals, and high-quality vitamins. Traditional feed does not provide animals with a sufficient and optimal ratio of minerals and vitamins. One of the factors providing young pigs with these nutrients may be the inclusion of the DKB vitamin-mineral energy supplement in the diet. The article analyzes the influence of DKB on the productivity of young pigs. The aim of the study was to justify an increase in productivity indicators of large white pigs feeding with DKB. In order to trace the impact of DKB on the productivity of pigs, we took into account the change in their live weight. During the experiment (60 days), 54 kg of the vitamin-mineral complex worth 3300 rubles was spent on the 20 piglets of the experimental group. This entailed an increase in the total costs. The results of the study indicate a positive effect of the additive on the dynamics and growth rate of the piglets of the experimental group and on the cost of feed and nutrients, which favorably affects the profitability and economic efficiency of pork production. The use of high-protein soybean meal in broiler diets provided for 38 days of fattening obtaining live weight of 2,336 g, average daily gain in live weight of 60.4 g, which is higher than in the control group by 135 g and 3.5 g, respectively. The highest rates were observed in chickens that consumed compound feed with high protein soybean meal, which was characterized by a high content of crude protein (47.0%) and good protein solubility (77.8%). It is proved that the use of soybean meal with a high content of SP 47.0% versus 42.0%, increases the live weight of chickens and reduces feed costs per 1 kilo of live weight gain.

This study aimed to assess the effect of different breeds and crosses of broiler chickens and sex on growth, carcass characteristics, and tissue composition. The experimental design was a completely randomized design in a 6 × 2 factorial scheme, with six genotypes (New Hampshire – NHS, Jersey Black Giant – JBG, Rodhe Island Red – RIR, Indigenous Giant – IG, and the hybrids IG × NHS and IG × JBG) and two sexes (male and female). Each treatment was composed of five replications with three broiler chickens, totaling 180 broiler chickens. Zootechnical performance and growth were assessed through the Gompertz equation parameters. After slaughtering at 105 days, the characteristics of carcass and main cuts were determined by means of weight, yield, and proportion of tissue constituents (meat, bone, and skin). Regarding the Gompertz equation parameters, the genotype NHS presented a higher growth potential. Males presented higher live weight and carcass weights, except for IG. No difference was observed between genotypes and sexes (P > 0.05) for carcass yield. The genotype JBG presented the highest average for breast yield (24.4%). Males presented the highest average for leg yield (30.5%). The genotype IG presented the highest value of breast meat yield (71.2%), being similar to the genotypes from the crosses IG × NHS, and IG × JBG (68.9 and 68.3%, respectively). For meat to breastbone ratio, the genotype IG presented the highest value (3.4) and, considering the sex, females presented a higher average (3.2) for this characteristic. Regarding the proportion of leg meat, an effect was observed for genotype and sex (P < 0.05) with the highest values observed for the hybrid IG × JBG and females (66.3 and 66.0%, respectively). For meat to leg bone ratio, the genotypes NHS, JBG, RIR, and IG × NHS presented the highest values (2.6, 2.7, 2.6, and 2.6, respectively), with females presenting the highest value (P < 0.05) (2.7). The genotypes IG, IG × NHS and IG × JBG presented the best growth and carcass characteristics, being recommended to be reared under an alternative system. Females presented the highest breast yield and, proportionally, the highest amount of leg meat, which are important attributes in a chicken meat production system.

The paper demonstrates the results of applying some doses of probiotic specimen “Propionovyy” when feeding broilers. Propionovyy specimen was developed by the staff of the Laboratory of Microbiology of the department “Siberian Research Institute of Chemistry” of Federal Altai Center of Agricultural Biotechnologies. It includes multi strain propionate of Propionibacterium freudenreichii type taken from the Siberian collection of microorganisms. The scientific and economic experiment was conducted at the poultry farm of LLC Kuzbass Broiler in the Kemerovo region. The researchers arranged four groups of broiler chickens; each group contained 198 broilers. The control group received a basic diet without probiotics. In the experimental groups, different dosages of Propionovyy specimen were added to the main diet instead of feed antibiotic. The experiment explores the effect of “Propionovyy” specimen on livestock farming and physiological parameters of broiler chickens. The following indicators were considered: live weight, absolute and average daily gain of live weight, poultry liveability, feed costs per 1 kg of gain, morphological and biochemical indicators of blood at the age of 28 and 39 days. The researchers observed the chickens of experimental groups who received probiotic specimen “Propionovyy” and found out an increase in live weight by 0.49-1.94%, an absolute and average daily increase of up to 2.00%. The safety of the chickens receiving the probiotic was increased by 1.00-2.02% compared to the control group. Hematological parameters of blood in chickens of all groups varied within the limits of physiological standard that testifies to the healthy physiological condition of the poultry. The authors found out the decrease of glucose and cholesterol concentration in blood serum in the experimental groups. According to the research results the authors elaborated the appropriate and efficient dosage of “Propionovyy” specimen, rendering the greatest positive effect on productive qualities of poultry and reducing expenses of forages on 1 kg of growth on 0,05 kg.
