Effects of different available commercial probiotics on growth performance and blood parameters were evaluated. To achieve the objectives, a total of 198 one-day-old Hubbard Isa Starbro broiler chicks were raised over 28 days. Chicks were wing-banded, weighed individually and randomly allocated into six equally major groups each having three replicates. Broilers of group T1 (control group) were fed the starter and finisher diets. The broilers of groups T2 was fed the control starter and finisher diets supplemented with antibiotic and groups T3-T5 were fed 4 different commercially available probiotics (T3-Guardizen-M, T4-Protexin and T5-Poultry star sol in drinking water. Weekly body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion were recorded during experimental period. Blood parameters at 4 weeks of age including packed cell volume (PCV), haemoglobin (Hb), total protein, albumin, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein (HDL), uric acid, cholesterol, glucose, intestinal microflora, pH and color properties of meat were determined. All birds were kept under similar environmental, managerial and hygienic conditions. Probiotic supplementation significantly increased the body weight and daily weight gain of broiler chicks at 28 days (p<0.05). Improved feed conversion was noticed in birds fed a diet supplemented with probiotic. The effects of probiotics on carcass and some internal organs were measured and results shows that feeding broilers with probiotics have significant effects (P < 0.05) on dressed carcass weight, abdominal fat, breast, thigh and liver while it appeared insignificant on gizzard (P> 0.05). The lower percent of abdominal fat and the higher percent of dressed carcass, breast and thigh were observed in experimental probiotic(s) groups. pH and meat color did not affect among treatments. There was lower mortality rate in probiotics among groups. Moreover, there was no significant change for Hb, PCV, total protein and albumin concentrations among different groups. Also, total protein, lipids and albumin concentrations were not affected by probiotic(s) supplementation. In addition, different probiotics showed a significant decrease (p<0.05) in triglycerides, cholesterol and uric acid concentration compared to control group. Birds supplemented with probiotics had higher number of lactobacilli but lower number of colibacilli compared to the control. It can be concluded that use of selected commercial probiotic(s) resulted in improved growth performance and carcass yields, and reduced serum cholesterol and uric acid in broiler chickens. Moreover, supplementation of the probiotic(s) to broilers had no detrimental effect on their growth performance and blood parameters. Therefore, usage of these probiotic(s) bacteria as antibiotic alternatives in poultry nutrition can be recommended. Progressive Agriculture 29 (4): 359-370, 2018

This study was conducted with Thai broiler chicken (KKU 1) to investigate the effect of citric acid by-products from rice (CABR) on growth performance and villi histology. A total of 192 broiler chicks were subject to three dietary treatments, including 0% CABR, 3% and 6% of dry matter. Body weight gains, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, survival rate, and production index (body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, survival rates, and productive index, respectively) were considered for growth performance evaluation. Villi height (µm), crypt depth (µm), and villi: crypt ratio were recorded for the villi histological measurement. The performance did not show a significant effect when compared with the control group during at ages ranging from 1 to 56 days. Villi histology indicate a significant effect on villi height (µm), crypt depth (µm), and villi: crypt of broiler chicks compared with the control group. Also, the use of 3% CABR caused a reduction microbial contamination in chicken fecal matter. In conclusion, supplementation of CABR had no negative effects on growth performance of Thai broiler chicken (KKU 1). Also, the addition of 3% CABR to the feed might help reduce fecal microbial contamination and affect the villi histology of Thai broiler chickens (KKU 1).

The study was conducted to investigate the effect of Fenugreek and Ginger Powder. The additiveswere added to diets of broiler chicken for 6 weeks (along the period of experiments). The Productionperformance, the Physiology and the Microbial balance in the intestine were studied.150 day-old Hubbard Chicks were divided randomly into 5 groups were as follow:1- Group one: Basal diet (control group).2- Group Two: Basal diet to 0.5 % Fenugreek.3- Group Three: Basal diet to 1 % Fenugreek.4- Group Four: Basal diet to 0.5 % Ginger.5- Group Five: Basal diet to 1 % Ginger.The results showed:1- The groups which treated by Fenugreek seeds powder (0.5 %) and by Ginger (0.5 %)and (1%) showed insignificant increase in body weight compared with T1.2- The groups which treated by Fenugreek seeds powder (1%) showed significantdecrease (P<0.05) in body weight compared with other groups.3- There was no significant differences in the feed conversion coefficient betweendifferent groups.4- Improvement of blood parameters of T2, T3 , T4 and T5 compared with T1.

The research was conducted to study the effect of feeding broiler chickens on diets containing isomaltooligosaccharides on the growth performance, carcass traits and immune response. 90-one day old broiler chicks were used according to completely randomized two treatment groups and one control, 30 birds each. Birds fed ad-libitum on basal starter and grower-finisher diets for 35 day. Diets of treatment`s groups contained 0.5 g/Kg and 1 g/Kg of Isomaltooligosaccharides, while the control group fed on the basal diets without Isomaltooligosaccharides supplementation. Dietary supplementation of broiler chickens with Isomaltooligosaccharides improved body weight, feed conversion, carcass traits, two lymphoid organs weight and log antibody titer against avian flu vaccine. Most of the highest values were for birds fed low levels of Isomaltooligosaccharides. Feed intake decreases as Isomaltooligosaccharides level increases. Dietary supplementation with Isomaltooligosaccharides did not affect the lipids profile (triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL), however the blood VLDL levels decreased with increased levels of Malondialdehyde and Glutathione reductase. Collectively, Dietary supplementation of broiler chickens with 0.5 g/Kg diet of Isomaltooligosaccharides improved growth performance, carcass traits and immune status.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of methionine supplementation on feed intake, nutrient digestibility and growth performance of growing rabbit. Sixteen weaned crossbred New Zealand White (NZW) growing rabbits (30-35 d) were distributed into four treatment groups having four replications in each group using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Basal diet composed of green grass (dhal grass) and concentrate mixture which was offered ad libitum basis for 56 days period. Four levels of methionine such as 0.0% (control), 0.15%, 0.25%, and 0.35% were supplemented randomly to rabbits. Results showed that supplementation of methionine did not affect green grass intake. Cumulative as well as daily concentrate and DM intake were significantly (p<0.05) higher for all methionine groups than control group. Final body weight gain as well as daily, weekly and cumulative body weight gains were improved significantly with increasing level of methionine. It was found that methionine had significant (p<0.01) effect on digestibility of DM, CP, NFE and EE but CF digestibility did not differ significantly. Digestibility was improved with increasing the level of methionine. Feed conversion ratio also decreased significantly with methionine supplementation, and 0.25% methionine group showed the best performance among the four treatments. This study aimed to investigate the effect of decocted turmeric on performance, haematological parameters and carcass traits of broilers. Broiler chicks at 11 days of age were allotted to five groups, including T0 (birds drinking 100% water), T1 (25% decocted turmeric + 75% water), T2 (50% decocted turmeric + 50% water), T3 (75% decocted turmeric + 25% water) and T4 (100% decocted turmeric). The study was arranged based on a completely randomized design (CRD), parameters investigated was performance and blood chemistry (leukocyte, total protein, albumin, globulin, uric acid, glucose). The data were subjected to analysis of variance at 5% probability. Decocted turmeric did not affect weight gain, feed and water consumption and feed conversion ratio of broilers. Lymphocytes proportion was higher (P<0.05) in T1, T2 and T4 than in T0 and T3 birds. The heterophils to lymphocytes ratio was lower (P<0.05) in birds receiving decocted turmeric than control. Globulin concentration and albumin to globulin ratio were higher and lower (P<0.05), respectively, in serum of T2, T3 and T4 than T0 and T1 birds. The proportion of heterophils and concentration of serum total protein, albumin, uric acid and glucose were not different among treatments. The weight of breast meat was higher and lower (P<0.05) in T3 and T4 birds, respectively, compared to the control. In conclusion, providing decocted turmeric through drinking water helped to improve stress responses and increased the weight of breast meat of broiler chickens.

This study was conducted under the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology to determine the effects of Neem and Nishyinda leaves supplementation on growth performance and GUT biosis in broilers. A total of 40 day old broiler chicks were divided into four groups A, B, C and D. Group A was considered as control, fed only with commercial broiler ration. Group B supplemented with formulation of 2 gm grinded Neem leaves, Group C with 2 gm grinded Nishyinda leaves and Group D with 1 gm grinded Neem leaves plus 1 gm grinded Nishyinda leaves per liter of water respectively. Observations were recorded for live body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency, hemato-biochemical parameters and GUT biosis specially the parasite of birds in six weeks. Body weights were increased significantly (p<0.05) in all treated groups in respect to the control and highest was recorded in combine Neem plus Nishyinda supplemented groups (Group D). No significant (p>0.05) differences were observed among the groups for PCV and TEC values. Hb content increased and ESR decreased significantly (p<0.05) with combine Neem plus Nishyinda supplemented group (Group D). The serum SGOT and SGPT levels were also decreased with the same kind of supplementation. In treatment group there was significantly decreased of parasitic eggs, but in case of control group no decrease of parasitic eggs. There was no significant pathological change in any internal organs of the broiler of treated groups. Best result was found in the group D. The present study reveals that combine supplementation of Neem plus Nishyinda gives better result over other groups in respect to body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, hemato-biochemical parameter and profitability without making any health hazard of the broilers. To investigate the effect of dried Bacillus subtilis culture on growth, body composition and hepatic lipogenic enzyme activity, female broiler chicks were fed on either no additive (control) or dried B. subtills-culture-supplemented commercial diets (215 g crude protein/kg, 12.85 MJ metabolizable energy/kg) at 10 or 20 g/kg diet for 28 d from 14 to 42 d of age. Body weight, and moisture, fat, protein and ash contents of the body were not influenced by the B. subtilis culture. Feed efficiency. N utilization, the ratio of abdominal fat or liver to body weight, acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (EC 6·4·1·2) activity, liver and serum cholesterol contents were significantly lower in treatment groups, while fatty acid synthetase activity and serum cholesterol concentration were not significantly different, compared with the control group. Liver triacylglycerol concentration was decreased in chicks given 20 g culture·kg diet, while serum and carcass triacylglycerol concentrations were significantly lower in treatment groups than in the control group. Serum phospholipid concentration was increased but carcass phospholipid concentration was decreased in chicks given 20 g B. subtilis/kg diet, while liver phospholipid concentration was not significantly influenced. The advantages of inclusion of B. subtilis to the broiler diet included improved feed efficiency, less abdominal fat, reduced triacylglycerol concentrations in the liver, serum and carcass and reduced cholesterol concentrations in the liver and carcass.

AbstractA total of 608 Ross 308 broiler chickens of both sexes were studied to determine the effect of Lactococcus lactis 847 bacteria compared to probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus delbruecki 838 and Lactobacillus plantarum 837 on body weight, feed consumption and conversion, mortality, dressing percentage, postmortem carcass traits, composition of breast muscle tissue, and blood plasma traits. Feeding diets with bacteria to chickens did not increase body weight at 42 days of age or improve feed conversion compared to control chickens. It significantly reduced chicken mortality compared to the control group, from 3.3% to 1.4% (P<0.01). No significant differences were found in feed consumption and conversion. There were no significant differences in the weight of carcasses and their parts. Lactococcus lactis 847 and Lactobacillus plantarum 837 bacteria significantly increased dressing percentage (P<0.05). Lactococcus lactis 847 significantly increased liver weight (P<0.05). No significant differences were observed in carcass fatness, and in the dry matter, protein and fat content of breast muscles. Feeding diet with Lactobacillus plantarum 837 to chickens significantly decreased plasma triglyceride levels, and feeding diet with Lactobacillus delbruecki 838 and Lactobacillus plantarum 837 significantly decreased the level of high-density cholesterol (P<0.05). In conclusion, Lactococcus lactis 847 bacteria in diet significantly reduce losses due to digestive disorders while having no effect on the quantity and proportion of saleable cuts in the carcass, the composition of breast muscles and basic blood parameters.

Two trials were conducted to evaluate the inclusion of glycerine, glucose, or sucrose in broiler starter diets to overcome negative effects of delayed feed access. In trial 1, 2160 newly hatched chicks (mixed sexed) were randomly assigned to two feeding programs (immediate vs. 36 h delayed feed access). Nine starter diets prepared with crude glycerine, glucose, or sucrose fed at 0%, 4%, or 8% levels were fed during the first 14 d post hatch (PH). In trial 2, 720 male and 720 female newly hatched chicks were randomly assigned to two feeding programs (immediate vs. 48 h delayed feed access). Starter diets fed during the first 14 d of feed access, consisted of a control, 8% glycerine, or 8% glucose. In both trials, a common grower and finisher diet were fed during days 14–24 and 25–35, respectively. Body weight and feed consumed were measured on 7, 14, 24, and 35 d. In trial 1, all 8% diet-fed birds were heavier compared with the control on day 35 PH (2259 vs. 2198 g, P < 0.01). Birds fed glycerine starter diets had improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) during 22–35 d (P < 0.01). In trial 2, glycerine diet resulted in heavier birds after 35 d of feed access, compared with birds fed control and glucose diets immediately after hatch (2373 vs. 2276 g, P < 0.01). Dietary inclusion of 8% glycerine can assist newly hatched broiler chicks to overcome delayed feed access induced growth suppression.

Fishmeal, as animal protein source, is characterised by high cost, dwindling availability and adulteration by feed ingredient suppliers. In view of these, two hundred and ten (210) ten-day old broiler chicks were used, in 2 x 4 experimental layouts, to investigate the effect of replacing fishmeal with infertile egg meal of two forms (with or without shell) and at four graded levels (0, 30, 60 and 100%) on growth performance, haematology, serum biochemistry and carcass indices of broiler chicken. Crude protein (50.2%) and Ether extract (30.6%) were higher in infertile egg without shell (IEM) than in infertile egg withshell (IEMS) (41.36 and 23.4%). Egg forms (IEM or IEMS) did not affect (P>0.05) performance indices measured. Increasing levels of infertile egg meal reduced (P<0.05) body weight gain and final weight without affecting feed conversion ratio (FCR). The IEMS use led to reduction in feed cost (P<0.05) than in IEM. Levels of infertile egg meal reduced (P<0.05) feed cost per body weight gain with least cost at 100% replacement of fishmeal. The IEM elevated (P<0.05) serum total protein, urea and globulin but lowered serum creatinine. Increasing the levels of infertile egg meal lowered blood urea while increasingtotal protein and globulin. Inclusion of IEM at 100% improved Total protein, Albumin and Globulin. The cost of feed reduced (P<0.05) by 13.8% at 100% IEM and IEMS. It was concluded that infertile egg without shell can be used up to 100% in place of fishmeal in broiler chicken diets to reduce feeding cost and improve health without affecting the performance.
