This study was aimed to analyze types of cooperative maxims in the” Omar” movie. In addition, this study could be considered as a language is a complex phenomenon whose meaning depends on where and when it is used in the “Omar”movie based on the interrogation between the Israeli soldier and the main character (Omar). This study used cooperative maxims  of Grice’s theory that  The cooperative principle was stated in the following way make your conversational contribution such as was required, at the stage at which it occurs, by the accepted purpose or direction of the talk exchange in which you were engaged. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach in analyzing of the data obtained. The data based on the transcription of the dialogue of the main character and the Israeli soldier. The data found was the maxim of quantity 16 %, maxim of quality 5%, maxim of relevant 47%, and maxim of manner 32 %. Therefore, in this study the most dominant was relevant maxims. Thus, the most frequently used was relevant maxims because the interrogation needed relevant to answer the interogerator.Keywords: Analysis, Cooperative Maxims and Omar Movie.

Communication is a human activity everyday, people always communicate each other. Sometime people do not realize what they are talking about. To make a good communication, human must follow cooperative principles. That is why Grice offers to use theory of cooperative principle to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation between the speaker and the listener. However, some people do not fulfill those maxims to be used in the conversation for certain reasons, and when they violate the maxims it is called flouting maxims. A descriptive qualitative approach is used for this study because the data are in the form of words rather than of numbers and statistics. This study reveals that based on theory of Grice’s Cooperative, there are four maxims which are flouted by the main characters of  “Home Alone Part 2 ‘Lost in New York’” movie this movie since 1992 directed and written by John Hughes. The result shows that there are four Maxims Flouted by the main characters there are flouting maxim of quality, flouting maxim of quantity, flouting maxim of relevance, and flouting maxim of manner. And there are several reasons of flouting those maxims are data finding also revealed that the communication could still even though the main characters flouting the maxims. Four reasons by the main characters to flout the maxims are competitive, collaborative, convivial, and conflictive reason. In terms of types, quantity maxim flouting is in the highest rank and relevance maxim flouting is in the lowest rank. In terms of strategies, overstatement is the most frequently used and metaphor is the most rarely used. This study is conducted in order to reveal the violated maxims in the humorous utterances and the implicature of the maxim violations in NET comedy program ‘The East’, from a discourse analysis point of view. The writer analyzes the types of maxims that are violated found in the humorous utterances in episode 397 entitled ‘Ribet Milih Tempat Kerja Baru’ (Complication in choosing a workplace) of the comedy program ‘The East’. This study is conducted by using a descriptive-qualitative approach, aimed to create a description from the perspectives or experiences of the writer. The findings reveal there are totally 26 (twenty-six) violations, each with its implied meaning in the episode of the program. Among the four maxims, the most frequent occurrence is the violation of maxim of Quality with 11 occurrences. Key words: Cooperative Principle, violation of conversational maxims, implicature

This research was made based on the number of people making mistakes in communicating in the social environment. Some errors in communication often result in ambiguity, due to the delivery of unclear information. Related to the topic the researcher made the research that analyze the flouting maxims in Wonder Woman movie and find the reason why the characters flouted the maxims by using the theory of Grice (1975).  This research used qualitative descriptive method by Sudaryanto (2015) to analyze data. The results of the research showed that there were 12 data which were flouting maxims namely 1 data flouting maxim of quality, 2 data flouting maxim quantity, 2 data flouting maxim manner and 7 data were flouting maxim relations. The conclusion based on the results of this research is that all the characters in Wonder Woman movie was flouted all of the maxims, it can be seen from the result of analyzed the data, especially in the main character. The most frequently flouting maxim is maxim relation. Keywords: Communication, Cooperative Principle, Flouting Maxim.

This study focuses on the analysis of the main characters; Jack Frost, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Pitch Black, and the Sandman’s internal and external conflicts in “Rise of the Guardians” Movie. The purpose of this study is to find out type of the internal and external conflicts based on the William Kenney’s theory. The study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative approach. The findings of this study; internal conflict: Jack Frost vs. Himself and the external conflict include Santa Claus vs. Yeti, Jack Frost vs. Easter Bunny, Pitch Black vs. Group of Guardians, Jack Frost vs. Group of Guardians, Jack Frost vs. Pitch Black. The problem solving of those conflict is competitive, because the Group of the Guardians pursues their own concerns at the Pitch Black’s expense.   Key Words: Conflict, main character, rise of the guardians, movie

As a lecturer in a business class, it might be interesting to dig deep to advertisement slogan embedded with sexual content like Condoms advertisement. This advertisement uses implicit language in the way they promote the product because it mostly leads to free sex. Therefore, the phenomenon of advertisers creatively uses the implicit slogans to attract their customers about their product might be interesting to discuss. This study aims to investigate the use of conversational implicature and the violation of cooperative principle or maxims occurred in condoms advertisement slogan and investigate the perception of business class students toward the analysis of this advertisement slogan to learn. It was descriptive qualitative research with 15 condoms advertisement slogans to be analyzed and 15 business class students to be interviewed. The result came with 100% particularized implicature used, 100% of violating of maxim of quantity, 100% of violating of maxim manner, 73 % of violating maxim of quality, and no violation in maxim of relevance. In conclusion, advertisers are using particularized implicature and violation of some cooperative principles or maxims to avoid informative messages in promoting their product (condom) which is banned in their advertisement rule. However, the advertisers keep making the slogans relevant to the products, so that some particular people can easily understand the message conveyed by the slogans. Moreover, the business class students agreed that this analysis should be important to learn because they will work as an entrepreneur who thinks about utterances in creating slogans for advertisement, especially sexual content. Further research should analyze more slogans in sexual content and use more techniques of analysis.

This research was conducted due to the importance of cooperative principle in daily conversation, as Grice’s theory explained about cooperative principle which has been divided into four maxims: 1) maxim of quantity, 2) maxim of quality, 3) maxim of relation, and 4) maxim of manner. These four maxims are the rules that have to be obeyed by the speakers and the interlocutors during interactions. This research is focusing on maxim of violation occurred in Pretty Little Liars TV Series. The method used in this analysis is descriptive qualitative. Objects of the research are the types of the violation and also the implied meaning behind the violation. This research used the observation method using non-participatory technique in collecting the data, and pragmatics identity method in analyzing the data. In presenting the data, this research used informal method. The result of this research found out that there were fifteen violations happened in Pretty Little Liars, all of the maxims are violated during this show. The violation of maxim relation was the most dominant violation.

Language is used in communication as a way to express their thoughts and feelings. Communication is how people use the message to give meaning to other people. Good communication happens when the speakers and the listeners can deliver their intended message clearly to understand each other. In communication, there is a theory called the cooperative principle. The cooperative principle is elaborated in four sub-principles or maxims. These maxims will make sure the information about the topic that is being discussed in the conversation clearer. However, some people sometimes communicate without following these maxims or violate maxims, knows as hedging maxim. This research aims to reveal the types of hedging maxims used by the characters in Bunker of the Dead movie. Grice’s cooperative principle is to analyze the research. Descriptive qualitative is employed as the research method, and a movie transcript as the research data. The result of this research shows that there are three types of hedging maxims, namely hedging maxim of quality, hedging maxim of relevance and hedging maxim of manner. One of the maxims, namely hedging maxim of quantity, does not exist in the movie. The most used hedging maxim is the hedging maxim of quality.

The purpose of this study is to identify leadership in Fury movie directed by David Ayer. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. The result of this study: (1). The main character is the leader of his team. He makes a strategy and he tells the strategy to his team. (2) Leadership style of the main character in the Fury movie are autocratic and bureaucratic leadership style. (3) The moral message in the movie are a virtue, sacrifice and religious man in doing their task in the battlefield.

This research aimed at analyzing the types of maxims of the cooperative principle that were used in the novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars. The data source of data was a novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars that fulfilled cooperative principle based on four maxims of cooperative principles: Maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. Theory that the researcher used in this research was theory of Grice. In this research, a descriptive qualitative method was applied to answer the research questions. The observational method and non-participatory technique were applied by the researcher in collecting the data. In analyzing the data the researcher used pragmatic identity method based on the theory of Sudaryanto. The results showed that the level of cooperative principle was mostly used in the novel. The researcher found 30 data related to cooperative principle. The maxims of quantity have 15 data, 3 for maxim of quality, 10 for maxim of relation and maxim of manner has only 2 data.
