Scaffolding is a well-established approach to education to maximise student learning outcomes. The premise of this paper is that there is a need for formal, scaffolded road safety education (RSE) which can be delivered in schools in Australasia. This paper supports the education system as being expert in matching human growth and developing scaffolds on which to build learning stages and presents arguments to show that an RSE scaffold can and should be drawn up. Schools can provide a structured in-class and real world learning experiences within that scaffold, which, with suitable communication, can be backed up by the home and the broader community. An integrated RSE scaffold across primary through secondary schooling is currently lacking in Australasia, but could be readily integrated in current school curricula. This paper calls for such developments and welcomes further debate and implementation of next steps to achieve this.

Virtual reality (VR) has been widely used as a tool to assist people by letting them learn and simulate situations that are too dangerous and risky to practice in real life, and one of these is road safety training for children. Traditional video- and presentation-based road safety training has average output results as it lacks physical practice and the involvement of children during training, without any practical testing examination to check the learned abilities of a child before their exposure to real-world environments. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a 3D realistic open-ended VR and Kinect sensor-based training setup using the Unity game engine, wherein children are educated and involved in road safety exercises. The proposed system applies the concepts of VR in a game-like setting to let the children learn about traffic rules and practice them in their homes without any risk of being exposed to the outside environment. Thus, with our interactive and immersive training environment, we aim to minimize road accidents involving children and contribute to the generic domain of healthcare. Furthermore, the proposed framework evaluates the overall performance of the students in a virtual environment (VE) to develop their road-awareness skills. To ensure safety, the proposed system has an extra examination layer for children’s abilities evaluation, whereby a child is considered fit for real-world practice in cases where they fulfil certain criteria by achieving set scores. To show the robustness and stability of the proposed system, we conduct four types of subjective activities by involving a group of ten students with average grades in their classes. The experimental results show the positive effect of the proposed system in improving the road crossing behavior of the children.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the roles that social capital and real-world learning may play in enhancing the effects of university education for sustainable development (ESD) on social sustainability. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual framework that identifies the plausible effects of university ESD on social sustainability along three outcome dimensions (think-act-leverage), broadening desirable program learning outcomes and proposing enabling roles for social capital and real-world learning, is substantiated and validated through qualitative insights from a focus group. The framework serves to structure a survey to alumni of a postgraduate program in sustainability (2011–2018). Hierarchical clustering analysis is used to identify differences in perceived, sustainability-related effects of the program on direct beneficiaries and their relationship with stakeholders in their communities. Findings Implementation of real-world learning in partnership with organizations in the community that actively involves alumni not only extends desirable effects beyond individual program learning outcomes and outside the academia but may also renew them over time. Practical implications University administrators should foster the creation of new social capital of students and alumni and their commitment with service learning and other credit-bearing opportunities as actionable enablers to enhance the social sustainability effects of university ESD. Originality/value The paper contributes to a dual theoretical and empirical void related to the effects of university ESD on the social dimension of sustainability through the proposal of a conceptual framework and quantitative assessment of the dynamic effects of university ESD at the local level.

The development of a course in sport administration in which case studies form the basis of the learning activities is described. The case studies are based on a variety of documents and resources provided by eight sport organisations. The documents and resources are supplied to students on CD-ROM. Students interact online but also meet weekly face-to-face. As a result, these real-world examples have increased students’ motivation and improved student learning outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to increase the learning outcomes of IPA in the Ecosystem Balance mate-rial through the application of the Contextual Teaching And Learning (CTL) learning model for class VI students of SD Negeri 1 Manggeng for the 2017/2018 academic year. The research methodology is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles and each cycle consisting of two findings. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The data collection technique is to collect test scores that are carried out at the end of each lesson in each cycle using a question in-strument (written test). The learning outcome data were analyzed by means of percentage statistics. The results showed that the completeness of student learning outcomes increased from 66,67% in the first cycle and increased to 83,33% in the second cycle. The application of the Contextual Teaching And Learning (CTL) learning model can increase the learning outcomes of IPA in the Ecosystem Balance material of class VI SD Negeri 1 Manggeng for the 2017/2018 academic year

This study aims to: (1) investigate the effect of Jigsaw cooperative learning on students learning outcomes; (2) find the difference in learning outcomes between high and low learning motivation and (3) find the interaction between learning approaches and learning motivation towards learning outcomes. The population of the study is students of grade IVa, IVb, IVc at SD Kasih Ibu Patumbak and the sample in this study is grade IVa with 35 students and grade IVb with 35 students. The results show that: (1) the average student learning outcomes of jigsaw cooperative learning is 28.40 while conventional is 24.14. Thus, students learning outcomes that get cooperative learning of jigsaw type are higher than conventional learning, (2) Students who have high motivation get an average value = 30.74, while low motivation is 22.72. Thus, it can be concluded that there are differences in student learning outcomes having high learning motivation and low learning motivation, and (3) students learning outcomes  taught by jigsaw cooperative learning are high learning motivation groups (32.94), and low learning motivation groups (24.58), while students taught with conventional learning are high learning motivation groups (28.40 ), and low motivation groups (20,95). Thus, there is no interaction between learning approaches and learning motivation towards learning outcomes.

Forearm pass is one of the materials that must be mastered by students of class X Senior High School. In fact, many students do not yet master and know forearm pass techniques. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle consists of 4 stages, namely: planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection was carried out using observations and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Hake's Normalized Gain formula. From the results of the study it is known that the psychomotor domain of students increased by 0.42 with average criteria from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The affective domain increased by 0.37 with average criteria. The cognitive domain increased by 0.39 with average criteria. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that learning forearm pass techniques with games method can improve student learning outcomes.

This study aims to describe learning outcomes through the application of PAKEM learning model. The subjects of the study were the students of grade IVb SD Negeri 013 Mekarsari. Improvement of learning outcomes in terms of four categories, namely the ability to absorb, the effectiveness of learning, mastery of student learning both mastery of individual and classical completeness and mastery of learning outcomes. Instruments used for data collection are oral tests and written tests in the form of LKS conducted after the learning process. The results showed that the percentage of student completeness increased from 19.40% to 55.40% categorized well, the effectiveness of learning is categorized very effective with an average of 88.46%. While the completeness of student learning outcomes expressed. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of PAKEM learning model can improve learning outcomes on the material of the students of class IV B grade SD Negeri 013 Mekarsari.

The problem in this research is the low of Civics learning outcomes in fourth grade (IV) SD Negeri 19 Balik Alam, this can be seen from the average grade, that is 66,23 (with KKM 70). The purpose of this study is to improve the results of learning Civics fourth grade students SD Negeri 19 Balik Alam with the application of quantum teaching learning model. This research is a class action research (PTK) with 2 cycles. Based on data analysis of research results after applying quantum teaching model, the average percentage of teacher activity in cycle I 66.66% increased to 85.4% in cycle II. The average percentage of student activity also increased by 56.25% in the first cycle increased to 87.49% in cycle II. Student learning outcomes on the basic score with the average class 66,23 and in the first cycle has increased with the average grade grade 71.11 with the percentage increase in learning outcomes 8.87% and the percentage of students who complete 73.07%, and on the second cycle increased again with the average class of 77.60 with the percentage increase in learning outcomes 17.16% and the percentage of students who complete 84.61%. The results of this study showed that the application of quantum teaching model can improve the learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SD Negeri 19 Balik Alam.
