Hospital Laboratory wastewater contains organic compounds with a high enough concentration and possibly contain other chemical compounds and pathogenic microorganisms that can cause disease to the surrounding community. A way to overcome this problem is to do hospital laboratory liquid waste treatment. One alternative that can be used is the phytoremediation method using apu wood plants. Research on decreasing levels of BOD, COD and TSS in Besuki Public Hospital laboratory wastewater using Apu Wood (Pistia stratiotes L) was carried out in January - March 2019 with the aim to determine the decrease in laboratory wastewater BOD, COD and TSS after being given Apu (Pistia stratiotes L). The method used in treating liquid waste laboratory is phytoremediation. The results showed that after being treated as many as 10 treatments with the contact time of the apple plant for 1 day, 3 days and 6 days there was a significant decrease in BOD levels in the treatment with indigo P = 0,000 <0,05 for COD levels based on ANOVA output, known the value based on Anova sig table results is 0,000 <0,05 so it can be concluded that the average COD level after being treated is "DIFFERENT" significantly while the TSS parameter is ANOVA test with sig value 0,309> 0,05 which means "NO DIFFERENCE "Significantly on the treatment. It is recommended for further research, it should be endeavored to use plants that have resistance to waste, especially for contact time so that they can use higher waste concentrations with longer contact times. Keywords: BOD, COD, TSS, Apu Wood Plant (Pistia stratiotes L

In the processing of chips using cassava (Manihot utilissima), it will produce waste in the form of solid and liquid waste. The liquid waste of processing cassava chips contains organic compounds that are easily decomposed and cause unpleasant odors. If the liquid waste is discharged directly into the environment, it will cause pollution and damage the environment. One of the steps that can be used to overcome this problem is phytoremediation. The purpose of this study was to determine the best treatment in the processing of cassava chips industrial wastewater so that the liquid waste is safe to dispose of into the environment. In this study, using two types of aquatic plants, namely water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and kiambang (Pistia stratiotes) and using alum to remediate liquid waste. This research was conducted experimentally using a jar with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 25 cm with 3 repetitions of each treatment. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively to determine the best treatment that can be used for remediation of cassava chips industry wastewater. The results showed that the use of water hyacinth plants (Eichhornia crassipes) could improve the quality of wastewater so that it is safe to dispose of into the environment.

The aim of waste modelling in aquaculture is to provide tools for simulating input, transformation, output and subsidiary degradation in recipients of organic compounds, nitrogen, and phosphorus. The direct purpose of this modelling is to make it possible for caretakers and water authorities to calculate waste discharge from existing and planned aquaculture activities. A special purpose is simulating outcome of waste water treatment and altered feeding programmes. Different submodels must be applied for P, N, and organics, as well as for the different phases of food and waste treatment. Altogether this calls for an array of co-operating submodels for a sufficient coverage of the options. In all the required fields there is some scientific background for numerical model approaches, and some submodels have been proposed. Because of its multidisciplinary character a synthesized approach is still lacking. Within trout farming this work attempts to establish the different submodels and outlines future possibilities for synthesizing the knowledge to a numerical model.

ABSTRACTThe leather tanning industry in Sukaregang, Garut Regency, produces liquid waste containing Chromium and is discharged directly into the Ciwalen River without a waste treatment process. The content of Cr6+ as metal ions in the waste can also contaminating groundwater. The movement of Cr6+ will pass through the soil media before entering to the groundwater wells. The capability of the soil to adsorb the contaminant will reduce the impact on groundwater. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of the soil in adsorbing and inhibiting the movement of Cr6+ into groundwater. The study was carried out at Sukaregang, Garut Regency and conducting adsorption experiments with a batch system. The analysis was carried out using the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model. The experimental results showed that Cr6+ adsorbed ranged from 38% to 57% of the initial concentration. The results from Langmuir Isotherm were: the distribution coefficient (Kads) was 0.45 L/mg and the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) was 2.44 mg/100g sorbent with R2 = 0.959 and Freundlich Isotherm was: qm was 2,86 mg/100g sorbent and Kads was 0,35 L/mg with R2 = 0,860. This large adsorption capacity is caused by soil texture and soil organic content. The soil in Sukaregang tanning industries has a high adsorption capacity towards Cr6+ contaminants. Keywords: adsorption, chromium, Cr6+, contaminant, volcanic soil, GarutABSTRAKIndustri penyamakan kulit di wilayah Sukaregang, Kabupaten Garut, menghasilkan limbah cair yang mengandung Kromium dan dibuang ke Sungai Ciwalen tanpa proses pengolahan limbah.
Odour emissions from liquid waste treatment plants (LWTPs) generally cause significant effects on the environment in terms of nuisance to exposed population. The particular and complex nature of the mixture of the volatile substances, its variability in time and the strong influence of the atmospheric conditions, are the elements that delayed their regulation and relative management.

Limited data are available in the technical and scientific literature, regarding the odour emissions characterization from liquid waste treatment plants. Moreover there isn’t a common strategy from the different European Countries in the regulation of their emissions.

Different methods can be used to measure odour emissions from environmental engineering plants, and currently, in Europe, the most used techniques for odour emissions characterization and quantification is the dynamic olfactometry, according to EN 13725:2003.

The aim of this study is the characterization of the odour emissions from different liquid waste treatment plants (LWTPs), trough a case study of two large real LWTPs, in order to identify the principal odour sources and to define their related odour emissions.

Odour Concentration Index (OCI) is proposed as a useful and simply odour management tool for the identification of the priority actions necessary to identify and control the main odorous sources. Relationship between the measured odour emissions and the types of treated liquid waste (identified in terms of EWC code, COD and NH4+) is also discussed.

Results show that the influent collection tank is the source with the highest detected odour emissions. OCI results are useful for the definition of a clear priority action for odour control, similar for both investigated plants. Between the characterized types of liquid waste treated by LWTPs the leachate (EWC 190703) show the maximum odour emissions.

AbstractTo directly separate actinides from high level liquid waste (HLLW), a novel molecule, i. e. isoPentyl-BTBP (6,6′-bis(5,6-bis(4-methylpentyl)-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)-2,2′-bipyridines) was synthesized and characterized. A kind of isoPentyl-BTBP/SiO2-P adsorbent was obtained by impregnating isoPentyl-BTBP into porous silica/polymer support particles SiO2-P under reduced pressure. The effect of HNO3 concentration, contact time on the adsorption of isoPentyl-BTBP/SiO2-P towards 241Am(III) and 239Pu(IV) was studied. And the stability of isoPentyl-BTBP/SiO2-P in HNO3 medium was also evaluated. It turned out that isoPentyl-BTBP/SiO2-P had much higher affinity for 241Am(III) and 239Pu(IV) over FP elements in 3 M HNO3, fast adsorption kinetics towards 239Pu(IV), excellent stability in HNO3 medium, and should be a very promising adsorbent for separating 239Pu(IV) and 241Am(III) from HLLW.

The researches which I beg, in the following pages, to submit to the Royal Society, embody the results obtained in the further development of an observation which I made a considerable number of years ago, and which, since that time, I had to defend against the objections of others, both by experimental inquiries of my own, and by the collection and discussion of facts elicited in the investigations of other observers. As far back as 1841* I pointed out that in analogous compounds the same difference of composition frequently involves the same difference in boiling-points. The assertion of the existence of this law-like relation between the chemical composition of substances and one of their most important physical properties, when first enunciated, met rather with the opposition than with the assent of chemists. In Germany especially it was contested by Schröder in his memoir “On the Molecular Volume of Chemical Compounds.” These objections led me to collect additional evidence in favour of my views, and to show more particularly that in very extensive series of compounds (alcohols C n H n+2 O 2 ; acids C n H n O 4 ; compound ethers C n H n O 4 , &c.) an elementary difference x C 2 H 2 is attended by a difference of x X 19°C. in the boiling-points, and how this fact is intimately connected with other regularities exhibited by the boiling-points of organic compounds. Almost at the same period Schröder § convinced himself that the relation I had pointed out obtains in most cases. He collected himself a considerable number of illustrations of the regularities I had traced, and showed that the relation in question is rendered more especially conspicuous if the compounds be expressed by formulæ representing equal vapour-volumes of the several substances. Some of the views, however, which were peculiar to Schröder have not gained the approbation of chemists. This physicist was inclined to consider the boiling-point of a substance as the most essential criterion of its proximate constituents, as the most trustworthy indicator of its molecular constitution. His views were chiefly based upon the assumption that the elementary difference C 2 H 2 , when occurring in alcohols C n H n+2 O 2 , involved a difference of boiling-points other than that occasioned by the same elementary difference obtaining in acids C n H n O 4 and that the isomeric compound ethers differed from one another in their boiling-points. An extensive series of boiling-point determinations* which I made of these isomeric ethers, proved that the latter assumption is not founded on facts. The exertions made by Schröder, Gerhardt, Löwig and others, in the hope of recognizing the influence of the constituent elements on the boiling-point of a compound, have also essentially remained without result.
