Zora Neale Hurston’s short story is a story of women with different perspective. This revealed the violence toward women and women’s resistance toward the construction of patriarchal. The violence was shown by a husband toward his wife in psychological, physical and sexual form. The theory used   Beauvoir‘s theory (2012). The researcher analyzed the problem in feminist approach. Women who experience oppression took the resistance as a form of struggle over their existence as women. It was reflected toward the main character in this short story. This descriptive qualitative research was used in this short story. This method was used for looking at data contexts that were hidden from quotations in a short story. The findings showed that Delia was able to resist her husband named Sykes. Delia sought her freedom by escaping the scandal the cruel treatment of her husband. Delia’s action contradicted with patriarchal construction that women had to be submissive and respectful towards men due to the women basically were dependent on men. Feminism appeared in this short story was concerned on women’s resistance toward violence experienced in social life in order to get freedom, rights and opportunities as a human.

Direct and indirect speech acts are the two types of speech acts. This study aims to know how indirect speech acts are employed in the movie "SpongeBob SquarePants." It employs descriptive qualitative research to explain the main character's speech act types. There is currently a scarcity of studies examining speech act types in cartoon or animation films; yet, it is necessary. According to this study, the result of this article is: first, there are seventy-four discussions of indirect speech acts obtained from all characters in the movie SpongeBob SquarePants. Each dialogue in the film SpongeBob SquarePants can be deduced to reveal the meaning of indirect speech acts. Second, The reader can use the domain analysis indirect speech acts summary to help them understand each dialogue in this movie that has a different meaning. This stage permitted the main characters to say literal things to the listener. The main character did not make a difficult-to-understand statement to the listener. This research looks at Yule's theory's utterances of indirect speech activities. As a result, the outcome differed from the prior study, despite the same issue.

This research examines readers’ perspective of 18 Indonesian national characters in Inem, a short story by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The sample of this research is 34 students of XI Akuntansi Keuangan dan Lembaga of SMKN 1 Pujon. The aim of this research is to analyze whether the students’ perceptions toward Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s short story, entitled Inem match to their understanding on 18 Indonesian national characters. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The finding of this research states each student has different perception of the Indonesian national characters in the Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s short story entitled Inem. However, most of the students have the same perceptions of the Indonesian national character in the short story entitled Inem. Their perception depends on how they understand the meaning of each of the 18 Indonesian national characters. Therefore, the researcher claims that the students’ perceptions toward Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s short story, entitled Inem match to their understanding on 18 Indonesian national characters.

In the aspect of social life, the function of language is traditionally as a verbal medium and also as a communication tool to convey thoughts of ideas and concepts, If in a society it consists of various regions with different language uses, language contacts and language interference will arisebetween the first language and the second language, that's why the researchers chose the title of interference that occurs between the languages first language (Madurans language) with the second language (Arabic language). In this research there are two formulations of the problem studied, the first is how is the form of interference used by students of syaichona cholil state, the second is how to speak the correct pronunciation of Arabic after interference. The formulation are intended to find out the various forms of interference that are often used and to provide knowledge on how to pronounce the correct language.This research uses descriptive qualitative research with the method of collecting data through three types, interviews, observation, and documentation with using the miles analysis model.The results of this research concluded that the occurrence of phonological and morphological interference was categorized into three typesfirst, elemental interference,interference is which occurs because of the inclusion of the morphological elements of the Madurans language into Arabic-like morphology, affixesthe example of the word astaghfirullah becomes poralla and syaitan becomes satan and others. Second, the interference pattern is morphological interference in the form of the use of the Madura language morphological process patterns in the formation of Arabic words the example of la ba’tsa( لابأس  ) becomes la madza madza (لا ماذا ماذا. )Third, combination interference is the occurrence of elemental interference and interference patterns in one sentence like the word قلب قلب (be careful).

This study is to find out the relationship of characters to illustrations in a collection of 9short stories from NadiraKarya Leila S. Chudori. In the collection, there are four short stories that contain illustrations of the main characters namely "Melukis Langit”, "Tasbih", "Sebilah Pisau", and "At Pedder Bay". The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method by using Charles Sanders Pierce's Semiotic Theory which includes sign and object. The study of characterization or characterization is done in two methods namely direct (telling) and indirect (showing). The results of  this study indicate that out of the 4 short stories analyzed only 3 short stories that have character relationships with illustrations, namely the short story "Melukis Langit", "Tasbih" and "Sebilah Pisau". Short story of "Melukis Langit" depicts Nadira's character who is strong against her father's behavior since the death of his mother. The short story illustration shows Nadira crying in the bathroom to vent her sadness. Short story "Tasbih" describes Mr. X with a mysterious character illustrated by showing Mr. X's face full of mystery while the short story "Sebilah Pisau" tells Kris who is Nadira's secret admirer. Kris's character is displayed with illustrations illustrating the event when Nadira was surprised to see Kris's table filled with Nadira's picture. Short story "At Pedder Bay" tells Nadira's old friend Marc who is also an admirer of Nadira for a long time. The main character, Marc in this short story is not illustrated in the illustration. The short story shows a background, namely the lake and the figure of the woman sitting pensively.

This study aims to uncover the meaning behind the tedhak siten tradition and its relationship to the changes and structure of life in society. Although there are many studies that discuss this from its philosophical values, there is no character value that discusses it. These findings at least prove that tradition can provide a positive value in social life. This study uses descriptive-qualitative research with primary data researchers obtained from interviews and observations during the procession of Tedhak siten ceremony in Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan. The results of this study prove that the tedhak siten tradition practiced by the Javanese people still adopts Islamic teachings. The ceremony has a meaning related to the formation of the child's character, changes in attitude and self in life in society in the future. This tradition tends to bring up the values of goodness in the form of patterns of alms, giving thanks, praying, and being hopeful. This theory tends to be called Education optimism about what will and will be achieved later.

This research is aimed to find the signs then interpret the meaning of signs in Raya and the last dragon film. This film is the first Walt Disney project that was inspired by Southeast Asian cultures especially Indonesia. The design of the study is a semiotics approach by using Charles Sander Peirce’s theory. The type of research is a descriptive qualitative research method. The signs are collected, reduced, classified with Object Triadic; Icon, Index and Symbol then find the Interpretant through correlation between Representamen and Object. There are 30 signs found in the research. The meaning of the sign is divided into two categories, namely the meaning is appropriate with the story and the rest have representation about cultures. From the research of this film we can conclude a moral value: trust and togetherness and also pride about Southeast Asian cultures especially Indonesia can be shown abroad.

Abstract. Conversation is a process of exchanging two variables, there are speech role and commodity exchange, the combination between them is called speech function. This thesis is entitled “Speech Function Used by All Speaker In Allison L. Randall‘s Short Story End of The Line”. This study aims at describing the kinds of speech function and interpersonal role created by all speakers in Allison L. Randall’s short story “End of The Line”. They are Liza, Frank, Noah Crawford, Postmaster, Zedekiah Smith and Caleb. This study used qualitative research   method. Qualitative research method  was used to collect and analyze data that cannot be represented by number. Descriptive research was used in the literal sense of describing situation and event. The result of this study shows that there are 10 kinds of speech functions produced by all characters (Liza, Frank, Noah Crawford, Postmaster, Zedekiah Smith and Caleb). They are 11 statements, 8 commands, 5 offers, 7 questions, 2 acknowledgements, 3 contradictions, 2 acceptances, 2 rejections, 2 answers, and 2 disclaimers. The highest speech function is ‘command’ produced by Liza because she demands the bank robber to release her from the captive. She also produced highest speech function ‘question’, because she is the main character. She is a talkative who wants to know everything. The highest speech function produced by Zedekiah Smith is ‘statement’ because he is bank robber who comes back again to release Liza.Keywords: Conversation, Short Story, Speech Function, UtterancesAbstrak. Percakapan adalah proses perubahan 2 variabel, yaitu peran berbicara dan perpindahan peran. Kombinasi di antara keduanya disebut fungs tutur. Penelitian in iberjudul Fungsi Tutur yang digunakan oleh Seluruh Karakter Pada Cerita Pendek Allison L. Randall “End of The Line. Penelitian ini berhubungan dengan analisis fungsi tutur fokus pada ujaran yang digunakan oleh semua karakter pada cerita pendek Allison L. Randall “End of The Line”. Mereka adalah Liza, Frank, Noah Crawford, Kepala kantor Pos, Zedekiah Smith, dan Caleb. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Metode penelitian kualitatif  digunakan  untuk  menyeleksi  dan  menganalisa  data  yang  tidak  dapat dipresentasikan dengan angka. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode deskripsi. Metode deskripsi digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan situasi dan peristiwa. Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan bahwa 10 jenis ujaran yang dibuat oleh semua karakter di dalam cerita pendek (Liza, Frank, Noah Crawford, Kepala Kantor post, Zedekiah Smith, dan Caleb) adalah 11 pernyataan, 8 perintah, 5 penawaran, 7 pertanyaan, 2 pengakuan,3 kontradiksi ,2 penerimaan, 2 penampikan, 2 jawaban, 2 penyangkalan. Pelaku yang paling banyak menghasilkan fungsi tutur perintah adalah Liza karena Liza meminta kepada perampok untuk dibebaskan dari sekapanya. Dia juga paling banyak menghasilkan fungsi tutur pertanyaan karena dia adalah peran utama di dalam cerita. Pelaku yang paling banyak menggunakan fungsi tutur pernyataan adalah Zedekiah Smith, dia adalah perampok bank yang kembali untuk menyelamatkan Liza. This research aims to find out types of negative politeness strategies expressed by the main character in the movie titled The Imitation Game. This research is categorised as descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research were taken from utterances identified as negative politeness strategies by the main character “Alan Turing” and analysed with theory proposed by (Brown & Levinson, 1988). Data were collected using the observation and non-participatory method. Additionally, to analyse the data, pragmatic identity method were used. The result discovered in this research are; 5 be conveniently indirect, 16 question and hedge, 1 be pessimistic,   6 give deference, 4 impersonalise interlocutors, and 4 state the FTA as the general rule, totalling to 36 indication of negative politeness strategies. Question and hedge became the most frequently used strategy the main character tends to assume unwillingness to comply to the other characters in The Imitation Game movie.

Nominalizations can be structured by adding affixes before or after root to create new words in language.  Madurese has several language aspects that have not been widely explored. Previous linguistic studies on Madurese mostly focused on morphological aspects such as Madurese affixation in general. Therefore, this research discusses Madurese Deverbal Nominalization Process (Noun Derived from Verb). The goals of this research are to identify what types of affixes which form deverbal nouns in Madurese and to know how the affixation process that forms the deverbal nouns in Madurese. For example: pa-mandi-an, the root is mandi (take a shower) after it attachés to confix (pa- -an) the word class category changes to noun pa-mandi-an, that is a bath room. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, and the data were collected from a Madurese short story entitled Tora (satengkes carpan Madura), which was written by Jamal D. Rahma (2017). The findings are presented descriptively by identifying the process of the derivational forming nouns. The results of this research shows that prefixes, suffixes, confixes and infixes are contributed to create new lexemes in Madurese.

This research used short story entitled �Merawat Peti Ingatan�by Putu Oka Sukanta as the object. The short story directed the reader�s thinking to alwayshave critical thinking on everything and not easy to believe in a thing without any good reason underlying it. The approach used in this study is didactic approach or often called the value of education, while the type of research used is qualitative research. The purpose of this study to describe the projection of didactical sentence in the short story. This research began by reading and looking carefully the didactic elements contained in the short story. Then the data in the form of didactic elements are grouped by family, religion, and social didactic elements. From some of these processes it is found that there are didactic elements in religious, family, and social domains such as respect or modesty, humility, honesty and transparency, caring, gratitude, etc. Based on these studies it can be seen that social didactic elements are more prominent than religious and family didactic elements. It is caused by human social life which is more often done compared to other elementary.
