Microgrids have been emerging and playing valuable roles in several parts of society, from academia of scholars to the energy supply industry of professional practitioners. A microgrid policy appeared in the Thailand 2015 energy development plan. There are many microgrids in Thailand. The first smart microgrid in Thailand is in active operation. Some microgrids are no longer functioning. Other microgrids continue to serve their customers. The remaining microgrid projects are in the process of development. Most present microgrids in Thailand are driven by public policy and legal flexibility. The objective of this research is to investigate the compatible microgrid technology in Thailand and explore the key drivers of microgrid policies in Thailand. The research methodology applied in this research includes data collection (i.e., a document study, interview, group discussion, and microgrid project participation and observation), as well as data analysis and conclusion. The findings of the research show that: in Thailand, the desired microgrid technologies are compatible with 1) inputs of potential local renewable energy resources of solar, wind, biomass, and mini-hydro, and 2) small gaps of human resource capabilities to deal with the technology utilization. The key drivers of the Thailand microgrid policy are 1) electricity access, 2) wealth creation and distribution, 3) environmental protection, and 4) technology development.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkanbahwa 1) Seni berkomunikasi: (kakawihan) dalam tradisi Aseuk Hatong adalah upayaharmonisasi antara petani dengan alam yang sedang kemarau melalui senandung ringan yangkontekstual. 2) Teknologi Tani: (Aseuk Hatong) adalah suatu alat untuk mengolah untuk tanahladang pada musim kemarau yang dibalut dengan estetika musikal sederhana khas petaniladang, hasil pengembangan teknologi yang tepat guna, menyenangkan, inovatif, fungsional,terjangkau, murah, dan ramah lingkungan. Dengan demikian, dapat dirumuskan bahwa TradisiAseuk Hatong di Tatar Karang Priangan merupakan media persuasif bertani di kala ngahuma(berladang) tidak dibarengi musim penghujan. Tradisi Aseuk Hatong juga merupakanpengembangan teknologi yang sangat memperhitungkan kearifan lokal yang berlaku.Kata kunci: aseuk hatong, kawih, komunikasi seni, teknologi tani, pertanian ladangABST RACTOur inability to deepen our own original knowledge results in disharmony of technologywith the needs in the field, including the Appropriate Technology (TTG) in agriculture. It istherefore that in any development it is often not harmonious with the needs of society. Theobjective of the research is to know the role of Aseuk Hatong in the agricultural tradition in theTatar Karang Priangan community of Tasikmalaya Regency whicht is religiously Islamic yetstill maintains the tradition. The research method is Schutz phenomenology study. The resultsof research show that (1) the art of communicating (kakawihan) in Aseuk Hatong tradition isa harmonious effort between farmers and the dry nature through mild, contextual humming.(2) Farm technology (Aseuk Hatong)is a tool to cultivate the soil, plowing the fields during thedry season by wrapping with simple typical musical aesthetics of field farmers as the resultsof appropriate technology development, fun, innovative, functional, affordable, cheap, andenvironmentally friendly. As the conclusion, it can be said that Aseuk Hatong Tradition in TatarKarang Priangan as a persuasive media farming during ngahuma (farming) not accompaniedby rainy season is a technology development that takes into account local wisdom occur.Keywords: aseuk hatong, kawih, art communication, farming technology

The emergence of global scale competition is leading towards the development of new mechanisms to help countries to become more competitive and technology parks are the vehicle of choice to achieve that. Technology Parks offer modern infrastructure and integrated info-structure to promote research and technology development and commercialization for wealth creation and sustainable economic growth and Global Competitiveness. This paper discusses the position of technology parks in East Asia; elaborates on their role in today’s nation development, analytically examines three selected technology parks in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore using GCI Index 2015 and concludes that Technology parks have contributed to gross domestic product (GDP) growth, infrastructure development, knowledge community expansion, capacity building, and export production and distribution. However, optimum benefits of Technology Parks accrue when they are established and managed professionally in line with the best practices and all transactions are equitable, just, and transparent; the whole process must culminate trust nationally and internationally.

Electricity challenge in Nigeria is such that only a dramatic increase in both generation and distribution capacity could leapfrog it out of the situation. Reports show that about 61% of the population have access to electricity, and those that do have are currently grappling with epileptic supply. The power network has installed capacity of about 12.5GW whereas the distribution network has capacity for about 6 GW, and often only about 4.5 GW is available to the consumers. Shortfalls are often met with private generations using diesel generators, resulting in noise and environmental pollution with the attendant health consequences. Frightfully so, the challenge is further exacerbated by the burgeoning population. Nevertheless, the government have set an ambitious target for increasing electricity access in VISION 2030 national development plan. A major milestone of this policy is the audacious ambition to increase the existing grid capacity to 30 GW, with 30% of the mix coming from low carbon technology sources. This study explores the use of available renewable energy resources at eleven locations in different regions of the country for optimal generation of energy in contribution to the Nigerian energy matrix. The study was conducted using HOMER™ and Power BI models. Four energy sources were investigated comprising of solar, wind, hydro and diesel. Our findings show that most places in the southern and middle belt parts of the country support mini-grid systems but are more receptive to grid extension, while a majority of the locations in the north are more environmentally friendly to the implementation of mini-grids. In addition, most places investigated in the south, solar technology contributes more than 80% to the energy mix, meanwhile, most northern locations despite having higher solar irradiation are better suited for wind technology with above 60% contribution to the fold.


This research shows professionalism of the female teachers at palm oil plantation’s school which belongs to Astra Agro Lestari Company 18% of the Astra Agro Lestary company’s employees is female, and some of them work as a teacher. Teacher’s professionalism is considered important to be investigated because by professionalism, teachers can perform their best to serve the need of education for their students. Individually, female teacher holds double tasks as a mother in their family and as a female teacher professionally. Research method of this research is descriptive quantitative with the total of the sample is 48 female teacher. In collecting the data, researcher used questionnaire. The result of the research shows that female teachers in the Astra Agro Lestary company’s palm oil plantation has worked professionally according to their tasks. Focus Group Discussion result and based on the data analysis, the researcher found out that female teacher who hasn’t married yet shows a dynamic behavior on technology development in teaching compares to the one who has married. Female teacher owns a primary task as a teacher and an additional task, helping the company in assisting the society internally and externally. The additional task is training and assisting maternal and child health services workers, introducing the central trash disposal to the society, assisting the community, assisting the day care workers, doing an assistance to the parents about the importance of breast milk feeding, and stimulating the mothers in following the family welfare programme activities.

California has established aggressive Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) goals to increase the fraction of electricity generated from renewable energy resources and to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Legislation AB 32 requires 20% of California’s electricity to come from renewables by 2010. More recently, an executive order has set a goal of 33% by 2020. Most of this new renewable generation will require the electric grid for delivering its electricity to customers. Renewable generators will be integrated into the grid at both transmission and distribution levels, but most of this capacity is expected to connect to the transmission system in locations remote from load centers and existing transmission infrastructure. Consequently, new transmission extensions must be built. But permitting and constructing new transmission are taking considerably longer than they do for the power plants the new transmission will serve, creating a significant challenge for meeting the RPS goals. Once connected to the grid, some of this renewable generation will exhibit properties, such as intermittency, quite different from traditional generation and loads, which pose special challenges for providing timely grid delivery capacity, maintaining reliability, and avoiding economic inefficiencies. Finally, power flow constraints through existing transmission “gateways” into population centers must be relieved before the electricity from renewables can reach customers. Meeting these challenges will require new or expanded capabilities for the grid. At higher RPS levels, the conventional “build” solutions, namely new extension lines, expanding the capacity of existing transmission gateways to load centers, and building conventional power plants for support, will prove inadequate by themselves, either because they are not the most cost effective or can’t be permitted. New transmission technologies offer the prospect of providing a substantial portion of these new or expanded capabilities to supplement these build solutions. This paper provides a technology development survey for achieving an electric transmission infrastructure functionally capable of performing its role in meeting the Renewables Portfolio Standard goals. These new technologies were examined in the context of providing three new or expanded broad capabilities: (1) Provide physical access for each new power plant, (2) Reliably accommodate any unique renewable generator behaviors, and (3) Increase the grid’s power carrying capacity to handle the additional electric power flows. Many of these new capabilities will foster a more intelligent, robust and flexible transmission system as part of the Smart Grid. This intelligence also opens the prospects for an expanded role for distributed renewable generation to help meet the RPS goals and reduce some of the burden on transmission. Finally new physical capabilities must be added to turn the intelligence into actions.

Uninterrupted availability of energy and power resources is essential for the productivity and smooth functioning of an enterprise. However, constrained by financial resources, smaller firms in developing economies face a plethora of challenges concerning the access to electricity. However, less attention has been paid in the extant literature to explore this phenomenon. The present study investigates the impact of access to electricity on labor productivity in Bangladesh in the presence of electricity constraints, electricity obstacles, and SME firm size. It employs the OLS regression and propensity score matching (PSM) technique for treatment effect to deal with the selection bias and endogeneity issue using the World Bank Enterprise Survey’s cross-sectional firm-level data for 3196 sample firms over the period of 2007–2013. The results provide evidence in support of SMEs’ labor productivity in response to electricity access. Lack of electricity access was partially found to affect SMEs’ labor productivity significantly negatively. Further, the results show a positive impact of firm size on firm performance. However, results from this model appear that constrained SMEs’ access to electricity has a negative relationship with firm performance. The article then suggests several policy implications on changing government regulations regarding the efficient use of renewable energy resources to enhance electricity generation for optimized SME performance and sustainable economic development in Bangladesh.

<p>Tourism is affected by growing transformations of social change, globalisation and wealth creation. Uncertainty surrounding the development of the factors makes it difficult to predict and provide contingency for the future. This is especially so for the spa tourism industry given its enormous figures in revenue growth over the past two decades. Given the growth of the spa industry and the key uncertainties that will shape its future, it is important to understand how the landscape of the spa industry might change in the next few decades. Although there has been research done on the future of spa tourism, for example by the Global Spa and Wellness Summit, their work requires more development and is not country-specific. In response, this study is of value as it explores the future of spa tourism in terms of creating multiple potential pathways. It does this from the perspective of the German spa industry, and addresses the interrelationships of these uncertainties. By following the specific methodology of scenario planning, this study develops a scenario analysis of the future of the German spa industry and answers the questions “What will the German spa tourist and spa tourism industry look like in 2030?” The study consisted of 22 semi-structured interviews with a diverse expert panel in Germany. Interview participants identified twelve key drivers which were discussed in light of existing literature. The two most significant key drivers identified in the interviews were then positioned along a two- key matrix with the demanding consumer on the horizontal axis and new distribution of wealth on the vertical axis. Based on these drivers the study presents four plausible yet challenging and completely different scenarios for the development of the German spa tourist and tourism in 2030. The scenarios include prosperous society, highlighting a positive future for German spas due to the growth of the middle class and thus increasing demands and a multifaceted spa clientele; the power elite, concentrating on the super rich spa consumer and their extravagant consumer behaviour; middle class on the brink, presenting a squeezed middle class and a gradient decline of the spa industry; and the welfare state, a gloomy scenario with almost no spa tourism left. Through examination of significant questions and strategic implications, the study concludes that the spa industry needs to challenge its current linear ways of thinking by adopting new insights and perspectives of the future. Furthermore, the industry needs to establish standardised criteria for accreditation and operation of spa facilities. This needs to include a focus on staff training in order to continue to attract the German spa tourist and thus remain profitable in the future.</p>

Abstract Most countries around the world are politically driven to move toward a low-carbon future by embracing renewable energy technologies for electricity generation. With abundance of renewable energy resources, Costa Rica produces over 95 percent of its electricity from hydro, geothermal, and wind power plants. Only one percent of its population live without electricity, mainly in remote territories where rural off-grid electrification is very challenging. The purpose of this research is to contribute to enhancing the opportunities to reach universal electricity access in Costa Rica by studying some cases. A comparison with the African situation is made in order to find common points of benefit and learning. This article highlights that a greater level of engagement is needed from local leaders to develop efficient solutions in Costa Rica, and brings a relevant comparison with Africa’s energy needs as well.

The emergence of various forest resources problem in Indonesia, pragmatically could not be launched from the processes that occured in higher education. As a manifestation of development communication events, pedagogical communication that occurs in forestry education was important to be observed. This paper aims to explain the facts that occured in the teaching and learning process at the selected Faculty of Forestry, including to explain epistemology that form those facts. The research paradigm is a critical paradigm in qualitative research. Samples were taken purposively by conducting classroom observations, in-depth interviews with students and lecturer, desk study and conducting Focus Group Discussion. The results of this research show that there are facts which lead to the ineffectiveness of pedagogical communication. There are at least 8 issues that became the impetus for the occurrence of such ineffectiveness. The situation has made the message construction thus was not carried but only administrative issues answered in ongoing pedagogical communication. It makes a silent culture increasingly wide spread and inquiries that build students awareness of being not able to grow.

Recent research has focused on sustainable development and renewable energy resources, thus motivating nonconventional cutting-edge technology development. Multilevel inverters are cost-efficient devices with IGBT switches that can be used in ac power applications with reduced harmonics. They are widely used in the power electronics industry. However, under extreme stress, the IGBT switches can experience a fault, which can lead to undesirable operation. There is a need for a reliable system for detecting switch faults. This paper proposes a signal processing method to detect open-circuit problems in IGBT switches. Relative wavelet energy has been used as a feature for a machine learning algorithm to diagnose and classify the faulted switches. The switching sequence can be altered to restore a healthy output voltage. Inverter faults have been diagnosed by using support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree (DT), and an ensemble model based on decision tree (DT) and XG boost algorithm was developed, which yielded 92%, 88%, and 94.12% accuracy, respectively.
