Modulating connectivity measures in EEG-based neurofeedback studies is assumed to be a promising therapeutic and training tool. However, little is known so far about its effects and trainability. In the present study, we investigated the effects of up- and down-regulating SMR (12–15 Hz) coherence by means of neurofeedback training on EEG activity and memory functions. Twenty adults performed 10 neurofeedback training sessions in which half of them tried to increase EEG coherence between Cz and CPz in the SMR frequency range, while the other half tried to down-regulate coherence. Up-regulation of SMR coherence led to between- and within-session changes in EEG coherence. SMR power increased across neurofeedback training sessions but not within training sessions. Cross-over training effects on baseline EEG measures were also observed in this group. Up-regulation of SMR coherence was also associated with improvements in memory functions when comparing pre- and post-test results. Participants were not able to down-regulate SMR coherence. This group did not show any changes in baseline EEG measures or memory functions comparing pre- and post-test. Our results provide insights in the trainability and effects of connectivity-based neurofeedback training and indications for its practical application.

At present, medical knowledge is experiencing an exponential growth. This results in serious difficulties to healthcare professionals in keeping up to date. At the same time, medical education is mostly taught using traditional learning methodologies, not always the most efficient. Recently however, there has been a significant increase in the use of computer games for both teaching and training as several published studies are showing that serious games can be more efficient when compared to traditional learning methodologies. Although the current number of serious games used in medical education is still very limited, the authors agree that it's application could lead to the improvement of medical knowledge and skills. This paper describes the serious game Critical Transport which is based on the Portuguese Society of Intensive Care's recommendations for the transport of critically ill patients, as well as the results of a pre/post-test study focused in determining the Critical Transport serious game efficiency as a training tool for training medical students.

Tumor genomic profiling (TGP) identifies genetic targets for precision cancer treatments. The complexity of TGP can expose gaps in oncologists’ skills, complicating test interpretation and patient communication. Research on oncologists’ use and perceptions of TGP could inform practice patterns and training needs. To study this, a sample of oncologists was surveyed to assess TGP use, perceptions, and perceived skills in TGP interpretation/communication, especially in communication of hereditary risks. Genomic self-efficacy and TGP knowledge were also assessed. The goal sample (<i>n</i> = 50) was accrued from 12/2019 to 1/2020. Respondents were primarily medical oncologists (78%) with &#x3e;10 (mean 17.7) years of practice experience. TGP use was moderate/high (median 50 [range 2–398]) tests/year. Most oncologists reported informal/no training in interpretation (72%) or communication (86%) of TGP results and risks. Genomic self-efficacy was high and was associated with higher use of TGP (<i>p</i> = 0.047). Perceptions of the benefits and limitations of TGP were mixed: heterogeneity was seen by years of experience, TGP use, and knowledge. Most participants agreed that additional training in TGP communication was needed, especially in communication of hereditary risks, and that an online training tool would be useful (86%). We conclude that oncologists are frequently using TGP despite having mixed views about its utility and not feeling prepared to communicate risks to patients. Oncologists receive little education in interpreting TGP or communicating its results and risks, and would value training in this area.

The spread of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has increased over time. The government urges people to take extra measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and maintaining dental and oral health is one of those measures that could help to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. People are taught personal dental and oral health practices as well as the necessary health protocols if they decide to visit a dental health facility. The purpose of this activity is to increase participant’s knowledge of the transmission of COVID-19 and how to maintain their dental and oral health. The method used involved measuring the level of knowledge before and after counseling. Furthermore, online counseling and training were provided through Zoom. The pre and post-test results from 88 participants showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge after counseling.

Information system technology is changing so fast connecting a world without limits. The ability to access unlimited information resources can be a medium to improve the welfare and independence of all groups of people, including the fishermen group. However, the low level of human resources is an inhibiting factor in understanding information technology so there are limitations in accessing new knowledge to improve their welfare.Community service provides solutions for partners through training delivered through conventional and online and mentoring tailored to biodata and initial observations. Training and intervention through mentoring provided capacity building for the Fishermen group in District Maladum Mes based on 79% post test results and training output achieved in the form of all partners having e-mail accounts, social media accounts, and video conference accounts.

In order to meet the needs of experiments, teaching and training on output characteristics of PV solar panel, this paper designed and produced a real-time training experimental box to test the output characteristics of the PV module, basing on the principle and characteristics of the PV generation .The partial function of the experimental box is designed according to the operational principle of the PV streetlight. So it may be used combining with PV module or PV streetlight. It is a teaching and training tool to carry out appropriate experiments. The photovoltaic output characteristics have been verified by the test results on the equipment.

Undergraduate students in an environmental science course learned to make environmentally-conscious decisions by visiting a virtual green home in Second Life (SL). One group of learners was immersed in a virtual field trip experience where they viewed evidence of green decisions in a virtual home. Another group studied the same content through a static website. Pre-test and post-test results for both groups demonstrate significant differences in scores after instruction. Results suggest a virtual world can provide an instructionally effective medium if instructors allow ample time and training for students to become familiar with the environment. Feedback from SL participants suggests that learners felt they had participated in an “experience.” Instructional design considerations which focus on creating an educational experience involving active tasks and social interactions might best maximize the educational usage of a virtual world.

The aim of this research is to investigate whether there is a meaningful difference in the academic success, between the students who are applied the "formula t-shirt method" (experimental group) and the students who are not (in other classes of the school), in the education for the scientists wanted to be taught in the secondary school 5th, 6th and 7th grade science textbooks. Semi-experimental method was used as research method. In the 6th grade, 27 students participated in this study as experimental group (students wearing t-shirts) and 49 students in the other classes of the school that did not participate in the study. Academic achievement test including pre-test and post-test, informative observations, students’ and teacher’s interviews as well as 20 printed t-shirts were used to collect data. The pilot study of the developed achievement test was applied in another school and also the item analysis of it was performed. According to the research findings, when the experimental group’s success post-test results from the application performed, were examined in line with the interviews, significant differences were observed. It was seen that the subjects aimed to be gained with the formula t-shirt method, were adopted by the students and also increased their success. Looking at the results of the research, thanks to wearing the t-shirts prepared by using the human body on the background, and the reconciliation of the students wearing with the scientists on t-shirts, the desired learning was provided. This also contributed to such learning techniques as peer learning, active learning, social learning in terms of visuality and integrity. It is thought that these materials developed with the formula t-shirt method, will also inspire researchers for future studies in terms of their usability in other fields and subjects

Cognitive ability is a key selection criterion for entry into many elite professions. Herein, we investigate whether mindfulness training (MT) can enhance cognitive performance in elite military forces. The cognitive effects of a short-form 8-hour MT program contextualized for military cohorts, referred to as Mindfulness-Based Attention Training (MBAT), were assessed. Servicemembers received either a 2-week (n = 40) or 4-week (n = 36) version of MBAT, or no training (NTC, n = 44). Sustained attention and working memory task performance along with self-reported cognitive failures were assessed at study onset (T1) and 8-weeks later (T2). In contrast to both the NTC and 2-week MT groups, the 4-week MT group significantly improved over time on attention and working memory outcome measures. Among the 4-week more so than the 2-week MBAT participants, working memory performance improvements were correlated with their amount of out-of-class MT practice. In addition to these group-wise effects, all participants receiving MBAT decreased in their self-reported cognitive failures from T1 to T2. Importantly, none of these improvements were related to self-reported task motivation. Together, these results suggest that short-form MT, when delivered over a 4-week delivery schedule, may be an effective cognitive training tool in elite military cohorts.

The use of videos in education makes it possible to overcome practical real-world constraints and explore far greater possibilities provided by digital spaces, especially for the video uploaded in online platform such as blog. This study examines whether online video blog as media have a significant effect on students’ achievement of passive voice. It used pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test) design. The samples of this study were 10 students at 4J Operation. A pre-test and post-test were conducted by using multiple choice questions as the instruments. Data analysis was through paired-sample t-test. Results showed that there was an increase in mean score of pre-test (49,1) and post-test (63,5). Data from Paired Sample t-test showed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 which was smaller than .05 which means that there was significance difference in mean score after employing treatment.
