The increase in the proportion of elderly in Europe brings with it certain challenges that society needs to address, such as custodial care. We propose a scalable, easily modulated and live assistive technology system, based on a comfortable smart footwear capable of detecting walking behaviour, in order to prevent possible health problems in the elderly, facilitating their urban life as independently and safety as possible. This brings with it the challenge of handling the large amounts of data generated, transmitting and pre-processing that information and analysing it with the aim of obtaining useful information in real/near-real time. This is the basis of information theory. This work presents a complete system aiming at elderly people that can detect different user behaviours/events (sitting, standing without imbalance, standing with imbalance, walking, running, tripping) through information acquired from 20 types of sensor measurements (16 piezoelectric pressure sensors, one accelerometer returning reading for the 3 axis and one temperature sensor) and warn the relatives about possible risks in near-real time. For the detection of these events, a hierarchical structure of cascading binary models is designed and applied using artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms and deep learning techniques. The best models are achieved with convolutional layered ANN and multilayer perceptrons. The overall event detection performance achieves an average accuracy and area under the ROC curve of 0.84 and 0.96, respectively.

In pervasive computing, the area of contextawareness is considered as an important technology and also plays a important role in the area of healthcare environments. In this paper we propose a system for elderly people signs monitoring and critical health conditions which is sends to the caregivers to identify the daily activities by using internet of things (IoT) this can be done in real-time. For example the elderly people who are not well in daily activities like current health status is “normal” or “critical” and the caregivers can give the early suggestions to the people who are in nearby. We have build a fuzzy logic from the beginning of data acquisition, processing of the data namely filtering , aggregating it into contextual information and reasoning to identify the elderly people health condition. Variety of connected devices can modify the remote characteristic, real-time monitoring, measuring and transmitting numerous body health parameters for making the decision and medication. The goal of this paper is to introduce the approach Context Aware Smart Home Caregivers System (CASHCS) to identify the normal and abnormal conditions of the people health status so that doctor can cure the problems in early stage without any complication. So this can be used to build a framework for context-aware healthcare applications.

The number of elderly people worldwide is rigidly increasing due to decrease in birth rates and innovations implemented in medical field. Due to the increase in elderly people population diseases like dementia are also being increased year by year. Having done many kinds of research it is found that there is no permanent treatment for diseases like dementia, even if those patients come in public they look similar to normal people, however, people with dementia have abnormal behaviors like loss of patience, aggression, lack of thinking which in turn causes burden to family members and caretakers. In order to address this issues, this paper demonstrates a follow-up and rescue program for the elderly. The system includes a GPS receiver, a GSM module and a long-distance RF transmitter and receiver, real-time location. Families and care takers can obtain real-time information and history of patient location through GPS to avoid loss of elderly patients. With the help of this system, the number of losing patients will be decreased and the pressure on the caretakers and family people will be cut down to some extent.

In the advance of the technology and implantation of Internet of Things (IoT), the realization of smart city seems to be very needed. One of the key parts of a cyber-physical system of urban life is transportation. Such mission-critical application has led to inquisitiveness in researchers to develop autonomous robots from academicians and industry. In the domain of autonomous robot, intelligent video analytics is very crucial. By the advent of deep learning many neural ¬¬¬networks-based learning approaches are considered. One of the advanced Single Shot Multibox Detector (SSD) method is exploited for real-time video/image analysis using an IOT device and vehicles/any barrier avoidance on road is done using image processing. The proposed work makes use of SSD algorithm which is responsible for object detection and image processing to control the car, based on its current input. Thus, this work aims to develop real-time barrier detection and barrier avoidance for autonomous robots using a camera and barrier avoidance sensor in an unstructured environment.

Smart technologies are necessary for ambient assisted living (AAL) to help family members, caregivers, and health-care professionals in providing care for elderly people independently. Among these technologies, the current work is proposed as a computer vision-based solution that can monitor the elderly by recognizing actions using a stereo depth camera. In this work, we introduce a system that fuses together feature extraction methods from previous works in a novel combination of action recognition. Using depth frame sequences provided by the depth camera, the system localizes people by extracting different regions of interest (ROI) from UV-disparity maps. As for feature vectors, the spatial-temporal features of two action representation maps (depth motion appearance (DMA) and depth motion history (DMH) with a histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) descriptor) are used in combination with the distance-based features, and fused together with the automatic rounding method for action recognition of continuous long frame sequences. The experimental results are tested using random frame sequences from a dataset that was collected at an elder care center, demonstrating that the proposed system can detect various actions in real-time with reasonable recognition rates, regardless of the length of the image sequences.

Nowadays population ageing is one of the most important challenge in the world. In this paper basic definitions related to old age and population ageing were presented. Predictions of population growth in several dozen of years in different world regions were described in detail. Predictions taking the elderly people into account were emphasized. Based on available data, demographic changes in chosen EU countries were compared. In addition statistic data related to population in Poland and increase in the number of elderly people in several Polish regions were presented. The growth of elderly people in population influences many aspects of urban life. Statistic research shows that most of elderly people, despite of good mental fitness, meet some restrictions, that make their life in cities more difficult, especially including travelling and achieving basic travel purposes. Thus it is necessary to get knowledge on basic elderly people’s needs, as it allows to design cities which are friendly to seniors. The modal split in the elderly peoples’ journeys in EU countries was presented on the basis of the literature review. Also elderly people’s mobility needs as well as the most important factors influencing seniors’ mobility were identified.

The smart teaching mode overcomes the shortcomings of traditional teaching online and offline, but there are certain deficiencies in the real-time feature extraction of teachers and students. In view of this, this study uses the particle swarm image recognition and deep learning technology to process the intelligent classroom video teaching image and extracts the classroom task features in real time and sends them to the teacher. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the premature convergence of the standard particle swarm optimization algorithm, an improved strategy for multiple particle swarm optimization algorithms is proposed. In order to improve the premature problem in the search performance algorithm of PSO algorithm, this paper combines the algorithm with the useful attributes of other algorithms to improve the particle diversity in the algorithm, enhance the global search ability of the particle, and achieve effective feature extraction. The research indicates that the method proposed in this paper has certain practical effects and can provide theoretical reference for subsequent related research.

Introduction. Physical activity is known to be an important factor influencing health throughout human life. This issue has become crucial for public health due to the aging of the population in both developed and developing countries. Aim. is to present a literature review on the forms of physical activity undertaken by the elderly, as well as on issues related to physical activity and the population aging. Material and methods. The study was prepared on the basis of a review of Polish and foreign literature. The following databases and data sources were used: EBSCO, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. An additional source of data were the websites of the Central Statistical Office. Strictly defined key phrases were used during the collection of literature. The work has been divided into thematic subsections on the aging of the society, the impact of physical activity on health and the main topic, i.e. forms of physical activity selected by the elderly. Analysis of the literature. The number of elderly people in Polish society has increased by almost 3.7 million over three decades. Therefore, an important topic is prophylaxis aimed at increasing the number of days in good health, largely covering the broadly understood activation of the elderly. The available data indicate that only 12% of elderly people undertake physical activity once a week. The most common form of spending free time actively is walking (as many as 73% of people in this population declare this form of physical activity in one of the presented studies). Conclusion. Organized forms of physical activity are undertaken much less frequently by the analyzed age group mainly due to financial limitations and limited availability of sports infrastructure.
