The slow city concept is associated with great care for the protection of the natural environment and the use of renewable energy sources. Thus, the study aimed to discuss the potential of the slow city model and the actual role of Cittaslow local governments in deploying renewable energy, based on the case study of the Polish Cittaslow Network. To achieve this aim, we carried out qualitative and quantitative data analyses, based on literature review and data for all 35 Polish Cittaslow municipalities, retrieved from: (i) development strategies (ii) a survey (iii) the Local Data Bank of Statistics Poland, (iv) the Quality of Life Synthetic Index (QLI). To process the data, we applied descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Spearman’s rank test. Findings showed that the support for renewable energy deployment was not at a high level and did not correlate with the goals set in the Cittaslow development strategies. This was the result of a cumulation of pressing social and economic problems, which the local authorities in Poland are legally obliged to solve, while the implementation of renewable energy is not obligatory. The QLI for these municipalities was low and renewable energy was not a significant element in improving the quality of life of citizens.

The purpose of this study has been to identify the degree of sustainability in the development of the Province of Warmia and Mazury. The theoretical and empirical investigations were conducted between 2003-2014 based on data from the Local Data Bank. Using a comparative indicator method, 20 indicators were developed, with different directions of preference. The evaluation involves the concept of uniform preference, hence the higher the assessment indicator, the better the situation in the evaluated area unit. Our studies on the sustainable development of the Province of Warmia and Mazury suggest that the indicators measuring the environmental dimension and consequently the quality of life of the residents (in this aspect) score higher than the country's average values. It is also optimistic that some progress, however small, can be seen in this area based on the analyzed dynamics of changes.

The study presents the definition and research aspects of quality of life, an interdisciplinary category that arouses widespread interest among representatives of various scientific disciplines as well as state and local government institutions. The main purpose of the work was to examine the relationship between the level of budgetary expenses of a voivodeship city and the quality of life of its inhabitants. To determine the objective quality of life, quantitative and valuable indicators were used in the field of: technical infrastructure, labour market, health protection, social welfare, public education / pro-family policy and culture, the level of which depends on the expenditure of local authorities. Based on data from the Local Data Bank of the Central Statistical Office, a multidimensional comparative analysis of voivodeship cities was carried out. Based on the selected diagnostic variables, a synthetic Perkal index was determined for individual provincial cities in 2019. The method used allowed the ranking of provincial cities to be determined in the analysed period of time and them to be grouped according to the level of quality of life achieved in four typological groups. The conducted research confirmed the existence of significant disproportions in the level of the quality of life of inhabitants of particular voivodeship cities. It was also found that with an increase in budgetary expenditure per capita, the level of quality of life may improve.

Due to the high demand on the housing market, it may seem that every investment will find buyers’ interest and the key is its economic dimension. Meanwhile, in the Krakow real estate market, one can observe the trend of SMART market creation, in which the added value is the quality of life of residents of a given investment, especially in terms of using renewable energy sources and ensuring a well-organized space around the investment. The implementation of intelligent energy networks and the widespread use of renewable energy sources will result in more efficient energy transfer, waste recycling, faster identification of the threat and repair after a possible failure. Using, for example, the resources of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, the implementation of ecological solutions is not related to the excessive price of such investments, and guarantees a higher quality of life for new owners. The article presents good practices in the design of housing estates in the city of Krakow. One of such closed settlements is "Osiedle Fi", whose location guarantees good public transport, additionally underground parking places a lot of green areas outside, positively affecting the microclimate of the area. The buildings are made of natural materials and the common parts of the property are illuminated from solar energy. The use of renewable energy sources favors both the environment and reduces the cost of maintaining the property. Rainwater is also used. The next smart housing estate is "Osiedle Ozon". It is a comfortable housing estate with functional land development. Among its main attributes, it is worth mentioning a lot of greenery and naturally diversified terrain. There were used plant species, which have the ability to catch harmful chemicals or dust from soil and air. In this work, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare the prices of housing properties in these two selected settlements to the prices of real estate in the area, indicating statistically insignificant differences in the economic aspect, with significant differences in the quality of life of the potential buyer.

The Quality of Life of Suburbanities: A Case Study of the Gdańsk Agglomeration The article explains the meaning of the concept of ‘quality of life’, placing emphasis on its subjective dimension. As the concept is more and more discussed in the literature, the author intends to examine the satisfaction within public spaces for which local government is responsible. According to research made in Canada it is worth measuring not only satisfaction as such but also the importance of its constituent dynamics. Therefore, a survey made in the suburbs of the Gdańsk agglomeration asked respondents about their satisfaction with public transport, roads, environment, etc., including questions about the relative importance of such issues. The combination of satisfaction and importance provide the overall quality of life. At the end of the paper the author considers if there is a chance to improve the quality of life through a brief analysis of local governments expenditure.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY SUPPORT AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL DISORDERS  ABSTRACTMental disorder is one of the most serious health problems. Families have to spend more time to provide care to People with Mental Disorders at home. People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) usually have problems with quality of life. The study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of People with Mental Disorders / ODGJ. This research is a quantitative research by using cross-sectional design with correlative analytic method. The sample of the research were 39 people selected by non probability sampling technique of purposive sampling. Data collection of respondent characteristics was conducted by using questionnaire of respondent characteristics. The level of family support was assessed by using family support questionnaires proposed by Friedman and the quality of life of the respondents was measured using the SQLS questionnaires. The findings showed that good and moderate family supports have the same percentage of 35.9%, while the results of the quality of life score showed that the majority of respondents had good quality of life (82.1%). Based on the analysis by using Spearman-Rank test, there is a significant correlation between family support and quality of life of respondents with p = 0,000 (p <0,05) and strong correlation value of 0.618 and positive correlation direction which means if family support increases then the quality of life of respondents will increase and vice versa. The future researchers are expected to exercise control over other factors that may affect the quality of life of People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ).

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) has a poor prognosis and is a major cause of mortality and suffering in Thailand’s Northeastern (Isaan) Region.   Methods: This prospective cohort study aimed to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among 72 newly diagnosed CCA patients; 42 patients who received cannabis treatment (CT) and 30 patients who received a standard palliative care treatment (ST). The study was carried out between 1st September 2019 to 31st October 2020.  Data were collected from patients from oncology clinics of six hospitals in five provinces of northeast Thailand. The HRQoL was measured at baseline, and at 2 and 4 months after diagnosis by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Core Quality of Life questionnaires QLQ-C30, and QLQ-BIL21. The Mann-Whitney U-test was performed to compare quality of life scores between the two patient groups and Wilcoxon signed rank test was performed to compare within groups QoL scores at pre-treatment, and 2 and 4 month follow-ups. Results: Global health status and functional scales, for both groups were high at pre-treatment. At 2 and 4 month follow-up, CT group patients had consistent statistically significantly better Palliative Performance Scale (PPS), and QoL scores, and many symptom scores than the ST group.   Conclusions: Medicinal cannabis may increase QoL for advanced CCA patients. Our findings support the importance of early access to palliative cannabis care clinic before the terminal and acceleration phase close to death.
