With a growing demand for crop products in China, a great deal of local resources and industrial inputs are consumed including agricultural machineries, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and energies, which results in many environmental issues such as resource depletion, water pollution, soil erosion and contamination, and CO2 emissions. Thus, this study evaluated the trend of sustainability of China’s crop production from 1997 to 2016 in terms of emergy and further explored the driving forces using decomposition analysis methods. The results showed that the total emergy used (U) increased by 50% from 7.82 × 1023 in 1997 to 1.17 × 1024 solar emergy Joule (sej) in 2016. Meanwhile, the values of the emergy sustainability index (ESI) were all smaller than one with a declining trend year by year, indicating that China’s crop production system is undergoing an unsustainable development pattern. From the results of the ESI decomposition, the renewable resource factor (R/GDP) and land use factor (L/A) are two key factors impeding the sustainable development of the crop production system. Therefore, the increased capacity of renewable resources and enough labor forces engaged in crop production will be the key strategies for its sustainable development.

Multimodal freight transport in cities is a complex, valid, and vitally important problem. It is more seldom underlined in scientific studies and included in cities’ strategies that devote more attention to passenger transport than freight transport. The increased utilization of multimodal transport matches current transport policy and at the same time, it is one of the most important challenges put before cities striving to achieve sustainable development. In this case, the paper embarks upon the problem of relations between multimodal transport development and the sustainable development of the cities. The objective of the paper is an analysis of the impact of the selected city of the Upper Silesian metropolis on the development of multimodal freight transport and an assessment of the impact of the development of multimodal transport on the sustainable development of the cities of the Upper Silesian metropolis. The authors developed three research questions in order to implement the adopted objective. The process of looking for the answer included four stages. Within the first and second stages, the literature studies and experts’ research allowed for identifying key factors of the multimodal transport development that a city may have an impact on. In the third stage, the research was two-fold and was based on a questionnaire and scenario analysis. Due to the individual character of each of the cities, scenarios were developed for Katowice, being the main economic center of Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis. As a result of the research, factors have been identified that must be included in a strategy of a city that strives for sustainable development. The last stage of the research focused on the initial concept of the multimodal transport development impact assessment on sustainable development of the cities. Conclusions developed at individual stages allowed for answering the research questions.

Management accounting of an economic entity in the agricultural sector is a complex multidimensional system. Sustainable development of the subject of business in the agro-industrial complex depends on many heterogeneous factors and conditions, which are understood as the reasons (driving forces) of any process determining its character or its separate features. The order of making decisions depends on the functioning of management accounting. In the context of diversity and heterogeneity of factors, a high degree of their uncertainty, complexity of interactions, study of these factors is a serious problem. Therefore, management personnel should carry out a constant analysis of all factors affecting the enterprise and assess their interaction, which reflects the cause-and-effect relations that characterize the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex. The aim of the article is the justification of theoretical provisions and the development of practical recommendations for the development of analytical support of management accounting in the management of sustainable development of agricultural organizations. Objectives of the research: to study theoretical aspects and methodological tools, to determine the set of factors of sustainable development of a business entity, to develop absolute and relative indicators, which should be applied in management accounting for assessment and analysis of economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The World is changing very fast. With the advancement in technology, the needs and demands for various resources is increasing too. Earlier, when the technology was not that advanced. We, Humans, never thought about saving resources and never thought about efficiency, as everything was abundant. However, with this fast growing world and increasing demands, Scientists have started worrying about the Sustainable Development. The pace at which all these resources are being used, soon they will be fully depleted. Already the need for saving the resources like Petroleum and Natural gas has been understood and alternate resources are like electricity are used to power the devices dependent on Petroleum and Natural Gas. The main thing is that we are not realizing the fact that shifting to some other resource like Electricity and ultimately getting dependent on it will endanger that resource too. Today, Electricity is used as a major resource in our day-to-day lives. Electricity is powering every machine used by us daily. From Powering Fan, Ac, TV, Refrigerator to powering microwave, electric chimney, Induction Plate, and even Vehicles. We are overusing Electricity so much that there is a need to reduce its overuse. Otherwise, the day is not far when Scientists will have to start looking for some other alternate resource also. Being renewable resource, it is cheaper and easily available at this moment but soon the situations might change. In today’s Electricity Distribution System, there are many flaws. There is no measure for reducing the overuse, no measure for people not paying their bill, no measure for people who secretly steal the electricity. All this can be solved by using a Prepaid System that will enforce customers to pay before use, so no defaulters

The paper describes the role of rural tourism for the sustainable development of rural areas and stresses out the importance of strategic approach in the planning of their development. The author identifies core problems, which eliminate their use and disable individual strategies set by some entrepreneurs in rural tourism. Concretely it is the absence of developing projects and focus on the development of individual villages. Then it is the lack of will to cooperate, local resources are not effectively used and the local community is not adequately involved.

Abstract In recent years sport has become a phenomenon of large dimensions and it is an important resource for the development of a local context (Hautbois, Desbordes, 2008; Maier, Weber, 1993; Weed, Bull, 2004). The combination of physical and sports practices within a natural environment (outdoor) broadens the range of activities that people can choose in their free time (nordic walking, hiking, rediscovering rural districts, walking and cycling in urban spaces, etc.). The demand of this kind of activities is continuously evolving. Sports tourism is a new opportunity for the development of tourism offer. Cities, regions, rural areas, etc. through the exploitation of local resources, vocations and specializations can promote a destination in terms of reputation and tourism flows. This research aims to stimulate a reflection on the role that the synergies between tourism and sport, combined with the use of resources, services and local products (cultural and artistic paths, local artefacts, wine tastings, etc.) may have for the development of a specific territory and its socio-economic environment.

Sustainability issues have been seen as a promising paradigm for achieving a better future. Firms in the logistics service sector are still lacking clear value propositions on sustainable development. While many organizations publish their mission statements publicly as kinds of public information, reviewing mission statements is an appropriate means to evaluate an organization's strategy. This study focuses on the public information such as mission statements of the top 50 global 3-PL companies and the relevant sustainable development. A comprehensive content analysis identified four major content dimensions of mission statements relating to sustainability development. The dimensions are driving forces, approaches, responsibility to stakeholders, and competitive values. This paper offers a good methodological reference for researchers or practitioners managing the public information of organizations. Network analysis reveals that the location of companies has a limited effect on their mission and strategy as they all provide global service.

The concept of the sustainable development of agricultural production marked the beginning of a new era in agriculture worldwide. The term sustainability was first interpreted primarily as the sustainability of the environment, due to the ever more serious problems experienced in this connection on a global scale. In searching for a solution, however, focus shifted to a complex approach to sustainable development. It became clear that in addition to the sustainability of the environment, a long-term solution could only be achieved if economic and social sustainability was also ensured. This is particularly true of agriculture, since the existing problems cannot be solved purely on the basis of environmental considerations. Only the comprehensive handling of ecological, economic and social challenges can produce a satisfactory answer to the questions involved in sustainable development. This will necessarily mean a change in the tasks facing agriculture, which will be responsible for more numerous, more varied functions than previously. If these new tasks are to be successfully performed, new technological systems will need to be elaborated, requiring an acceleration of research and development throughout the world.
