Increasing focus on the sustainability of clothing has highlighted issues such as “fast fashion”, impacts of laundering, durability, perceptions and expectations of wear and quality. The general consensus is that low-price garments (usually “fast fashion”) are of low quality, low durability to laundering and are therefore more likely to be disposed of after minimal wears. The aim of this research is therefore to explore the relationship between price, perception of quality, frequency of laundering and durability to laundering of a common garment. Physical experiments on black T-shirts was undertaken to determine whether the price of a garment determines its quality in terms of durability to laundering; and a survey was conducted on perceptions of whether the quality of a garment is tied to its price. Price was found to not be a good indicator of physical performance, especially when it is lower. The two highest-priced T-shirts experienced the least change and this was attributed to better-quality fabric and construction. Participants expected more durability and higher quality as the price of the T-shirt increased and expectations were mostly pessimistic of garment performance to laundering compared to the actual performance compared against theoretically acceptable changes in garment dimension.

Introduction: Thyroid diseases, especially those that require surgical treatment, are an extremely strong emotional stimulus for the patient. They evoke not only anxiety disorders, but also in the case of complications (especially those long-lasting) can even generate depressive disorders, or significantly affect the patient’s self-esteem, and thus its functioning at the social level. Aim of the study: The objective of the study was to examine the quality of life of patients who underwent surgical treatment of total and subtotal thyroidectomy. Material and methods: The study was conducted in a group of 102 patients undergoing surgery at the General Surgery Ward of the Hospital. St. Łukasz in Tarnów in the period from December 2018 to April 2019, as well as residents of Małopolska, who had performed thyroidectomy. In research have been used ThyPROpl, VAS Scale, and self-prepared questionnaires. Results and conclusions: The most common complications of thyroidectomy were tingling and numbness around the mouth and limbs (42.2%). Patients who had symptoms of tetany had a reduced perception of quality of life and health, as well as the quality of life in all its areas. The respondents had a degraded, reduced quality of life in terms of the negative impact of the disease on life (62.01) and fatigue (56.23). The greater the intensity of pain, the lower the quality of life of patients after thyroidectomy. Conclusions. There is the relationship between the quality of life and the number of complications, as well as the severity of pain. This dependence is directly proportional.

BACKGROUND: Depression has been proposed as a major contributor to poor quality of life (QoL) in Parkinson's disease (PD). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between depressive symptoms and QoL in subjects with PD. METHOD: Beck Depression Inventary (BDI) was used to evaluate depressive symptoms and Parkinson's Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (PDQ-39) to assess the perception of the QoL. RESULTS: Thirty seven patients (19 male/ 18 female) with a typical onset PD and mean disease duration of 7.7 years were studied. Higher scores on BDI correlated with poorer perception of the QoL. This association occurred at the expense of the following PDQ39 domains: mobility, activities of daily living, social support, cognition and emotional well-being dimensions. PD severity also correlated with QoL. CONCLUSION: Our study corroborates the assumption that depressive symptoms contributed significantly to QoL in PD.

This study aimed to check for any significant differences in perceived quality of life, specifically aspects of a physical nature, among volunteers who are more physically active and those less physically active in a university community. The sample consisted of 1,966 volunteers in a university community in Brazil. To assess physical activity levels, volunteers responded to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and to analyse the perception of quality of life they responded to WHOQOL-bref, which is classified into three groups according to level of physical activity, taking into account the metabolic equivalent index (MET) over a full week. For comparison, consideration was given to the first and third tertiles, respectively, namely groups of more and less active students. The results indicated that individuals who engaged in more physical activity had a more positive perception of quality of life compared to those who were less active in physical aspects related to the ability to work, energy for day-to-day activities and locomotion.
