Adherence to hand hygiene recommendations by health care workers (HCWs) participate to minimize healthcare-associated infections. There are few studies, to our present state of knowledge, which interested in the rate of adherence in Algerian hospitals and no one on the associated factors with the non-adherence by HCWs. The objective was to determine the rate of adherence with WHO's hand hygiene recommendations and to identify factors associated with non-adherence, in a regional university hospital. The method used was the direct observation, based on the recording of hygienic actions in opportunities for HCWs in front of the WHO's five indications. To determine the factors associated with non-adherence, a questionnaire was administrated to HCWs. The relationship between the different factors and the achievement of a hygiene action was evaluated by Pearson's Chi-square test. 503 opportunities for hand hygiene were observed among 206 HCWs, during 19 observation sessions. Simple handwashing was noted in 19% of hand hygiene actions. The overall adherence was 21 %. There was a wide variation in the adherence rates between the different departments and the different types of HCWs. There was a statistically significant association (p

The outbreak of COVID-19 has constantly exposed health care workers (HCWs) around the world to a high risk of infection. To more accurately discover the infection differences among high-risk occupations and institutions, Hubei Province was taken as an example to explore the spatiotemporal characteristics of HCWs at different scales by employing the chi-square test and fitting distribution. The results indicate (1) the units around the epicenter of the epidemic present lognormal distribution, and the periphery is Poisson distribution. There is a clear dividing line between lognormal and Poisson distribution in terms of the number of HCWs infections. (2) The infection rates of different types of HCWs at multiple geospatial scales are significantly different, caused by the spatial heterogeneity of the number of HCWs. (3) With the increase of HCWs infection rate, the infection difference among various HCWs also gradually increases and the infection difference becomes more evident on a larger scale. The analysis of the multi-scale infection rate and statistical distribution characteristics of HCWs can help government departments rationally allocate the number of HCWs and personal protective equipment to achieve distribution on demand, thereby reducing the mental and physical pressure and infection rate of HCWs.

Abstract Background findings from a recent qualitative study indicate that the perceived clinical relevance of computer-generated STOPP/START recommendations was a key factor affecting their implementation by physician prescribers caring for hospitalised older adults in the SENATOR trial. Aim to systematically evaluate the clinical relevance of these recommendations and to establish if clinical relevance significantly affected the implementation rate. Methods a pharmacist–physician pair retrospectively reviewed the case records for all SENATOR trial intervention patients at Cork University Hospital and assigned a degree of clinical relevance for each STOPP/START recommendation based on a previously validated six-point scale. The chi-square test was used to quantify the differences in prescriber implementation rates between recommendations of varying clinical relevance, with statistical significance set at P < 0.05. Results in 204 intervention patients, the SENATOR software produced 925 STOPP/START recommendations. Nearly three quarters of recommendations were judged to be clinically relevant (73.6%); however, nearly half of these were deemed of ‘possibly low relevance’ (320/681; 47%). Recommendations deemed of higher clinical relevance were significantly more likely to be implemented than those of lower clinical relevance (P < 0.05). Conclusions a large proportion (61%) of the computer-generated STOPP/START recommendations provided were of potential ‘adverse significance’, of ‘no clinical relevance’ or of ‘possibly low relevance’. The adjudicated clinical relevance of computer-generated medication recommendations significantly affects their implementation. Meticulous software refinement is required for future interventions of this type to increase the proportion of recommendations that are of high clinical relevance. This should facilitate their implementation, resulting in prescribing optimisation and improved clinical outcomes for multimorbid older adults.

Objective: to verify the rate and factors associated with readmissions in the Intensive Care Unit. Methods: a documentary study, carried out with a sample (n=441) of medical records of adult patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a university hospital. The descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was applied, using Pearson’s correlation, the chi-square test, and the t-student test, at a 5% confidence level. Results: most were men (66.2%), with 52.8±18.5 years of age and hospital stay of 10.2±10.8 days. Of these, 29 (6.5%) were readmitted. Death was similar (p=0.893) between readmitted (31.0%) and not readmitted (29.8%). There was no significant correlation between the readmission outcome and age, Nursing Activities Score and time on mechanical ventilation. By comparison, the hospital stay, and extubation were significantly longer (p<0.05) among those readmitted. Conclusion: the rate of readmission was slightly low. Only extubation time was negatively and significantly correlated with the readmission outcome.

Abstract Introduction The non-carious cervical lesion (NCCL) is currently a common oral disease. Objective This observational and descriptive study aimed to assess risk factors associated with non-carious cervical lesions, cervical dentin hypersensitivity (CDH), gingival recession (GR) and the relationship between these conditions in students in the last years of undergraduate dentistry. Material and method One hundred eighty-five dentistry students from a private college in Ceará with an average of 22.7 ± 2.3 years participated by filling out a google docs form. Two calibrated examiners performed the exams to verify the presence of NCCL, CDH and RG. Result The presence of NCCL was 22.7%, GR was 48.1% and cervical dentin hypersensitivity 8.6%. The chi-square test with p < 0.05% verified a correlation between the presence of NCCL and the presence of GR and CDH. 25% of students had NCCL and 14% considered themselves stressed. There was no association between the variables bruxism and stress (p=0.529), bruxism and year of graduation course (p=0.716), as well as no association between stress and year of course (p = 0.397) was observed. There were no correlations between NCCL and bruxism, muscle symptoms, parafunctional habits and temporomandibular dysfunction. 10.8% of students who reported using legal and illegal drugs had NCCL. Conclusion The NCCL, GR and CDH were correlated in the group of students in the last two years of an undergraduate dentistry course in Ceará.

The Authors studied the relationship between visual fatigue (or asthenopia) and different types of work with display units on about 30,000 videoterminal (VDT) operators of the Italian telecommunication company. Visual fatigue was reported with data entry, data checking, word processing, dialogue enquiry, and various services. The Chi-square test showed that asthenopia was not related to any particular type of VDT work, comparing subjects working at the VDT for similar times each week. These findings provide further confirmation that the main factor determining visual fatigue in VDT operators is the amount of time spent at the display units.

ABSTRACT Objective: To estimate the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety among multiprofessional health residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study, conducted in July 2020 with multiprofessional health residents (n = 67) from a university hospital. We used the Beck Anxiety Inventory to assess anxiety. Analyzing data through the chi-square test, likelihood ratio, and multiple analysis using Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: The proportion of moderate/severe anxiety was 31.3%, which showed significant association with working in sectors involving COVID-19 and directly with suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19. During the multiple analysis, we found prevalence of anxiety in participants who needed psychological support after entering their residence and those who used psychotropic meds. Conclusion: The results seem to indicate that residents had their mental health impaired during the pandemic, but the maintenance of the variables in the model also suggests that they sought help to control anxiety.
