Perceptions and user experiences in the Municipal Park of Belo Horizonte (MG, Brazil): structure, use and maintenance AABSTRACT In order to knowing the values experienced on green áreas of urban leisure implies to analysis of the geographical-spatial since where this practice takes place. The observation of those population practices, it is distinguished in the space-time (Certeau, 1994); in the lived and the perceived: concepts presented by Lefebvre (1991). Based on the relationship between space-time and lived-perceived, 30 collections, through participant observation, were carried out in the Municipal Park of the city of Belo Horizonte. In an exploratory way, the objective of this article is to know the daily life and the experiences of the users in this free space of leisure. Oserved to the means of reports of perception and the experience lived by the visitor of an urban green park. The results confirm (i) the contemporaneousness of identity thinking in space (Foucault, 1977), (ii) confirm that spatial practices influence representations, (iii) urban space organization (BOURDIEU, 1996) and (iv) urban practices in space and time (BACHELARD, 1929). This study contributions take place on how it can evidence the positive and negative evaluations of users mesured by three parameters: Structure, Uses and Maintenance. Sports Tourism as a segment is growing exponentially in Brazil. The sports mega-events that occurred in the period from 2007 to 2016 helped strengthen this sector significantly. This article examined tourism mobility during the Summer Olympic Games Rio 2016, hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This study expands the understanding of the relationship between tourism and city infrastructure, therefore being relevant to academics, professionals of the area and to the whole society due to its multidisciplinary field. The existence of a relationship between means of transportation and the Olympic regions as well as tourist attractions for a possible legacy was observed. Data were collected from official sources, field research and through participant-observation and semi structured interviews. Data were coded and analyzed. The results indicate that the city was overall successful in its execution of sufficient mobility. New means of transportation were added and others updated. BRT's (Bus Rapid Transit) were the main use of mass transport to Olympic sites. However, a lack of public transport access was observed for the touristic sites.

The study of physical and social divisions in divided societies has long been an area of study, such as the continued usage of 'peace walls' in Belfast, hostile architecture to prevent anti-social behaviour and rough sleeping, and the securitisation of private spaces. In the context of a new drive to create a smart district, this paper looks at the relationship between smart urbanism and planning, and at the spatial and social divisions between a new 'gentrifying' and well-educated community in the Dublin Docklands and established communities in the area. The Dublin Docklands redevelopment marks a significant break from a pattern of suburbanisation and inner-city decline and repurposes part of the former port area as a city centre extension. The paper accounts for the reshaping of the Dublin Docklands as a ‘smart district’ in collaboration with the city authorities, based on over thirty semi-structured interviews and participant-observation at consultation events. It argues that reductive definitions of smart cities as networking technologies be reworked into broader considerations on urban technologies and the future of cities, with greater emphasis on the relationship between technologies branded as ‘smart’ and the material and digital manifestation of boundaries in urban form.

Ruralidade. Etnografia. The Landscape in Criúva and Vila Seca, Caxias do Sul, Brazil: an ethnographic narrativeAbstractOngoing ethnographic path nested in a multidisciplinary context research, motivates this reflective narrative. The participant observation conducted in two rural districts in the neighborhood of the second largest city of Rio Grandedo Sul (Caxias do Sul) is critically reviewed. The main procedure that was carried out was the following of celebrations cycle of the Holy Spirit. Despite this, the narrative that unfolds the landscape as a common use in the place it is reached through the attention to diversitiesunveiled in this path. In this context, the researchers seek to critically evaluate the contributions and possible contributions of ethnographic work to a more comprehensive theme. The drama to be empirically figured out is the struggles of inhabitants of the place - farmers since 150 years in Campos de Cima da Serra - to continue their life projects. It happens that, supposedly in the same space time, the city requires other actions in the discourse of environmental conservation, however showing desires of other species. In this landscape survey more than to understand, it’s aimed to resonate the voices of people who live in the place.Key words: Landscape. Rurality. Ethnography.

This project was developed as an attempt to assess the relationship between different morphogenetic processes, in particular, those of fringe belt formation as described by M.R.G. Conzen (1960) and Whitehand (2001), and of centrality and compactness as described by Hillier (1999; 2002). Different approaches’ focus on different elements of the city has made it difficult to establish exactly how these processes interact or whether they are simply different facets of development reflecting wider socio-economic factors. To address this issue, a visual, chronological timeline of Limassol’s development was constructed along with a narrative of the socio-economic context of its development.  The complexity of cities, however, makes static visualisations across time difficult to read and assess alongside textual narratives. We therefore took the step of developing an animation of land use and configurational analyses of Limassol, in order bring to life the diachronic analysis of the city and shed light on its generative mechanisms. The video presented here shows that the relationship between the processes mentioned above is much stronger and more complex than previously thought. The related paper explores in more detail the links between fringe belt formation as a cyclical process of peripheral development and centrality as a recurring process of minimisation of gains in distance. The project’s outcomes clearly show that composite methods of visualisations are an analytical opportunity still little exploited within urban morphology. References Conzen, M.R.G., 1960. The research presented in this article adopts an urban sociology perspective to explore the relationship between spaces designed with biophilic principles and people’s pro-environmental values and behaviors. The research hypothesized that biophilic design and planning promote connectedness with nature and are positively related to pro-environmental and more sustainable values and behaviors. The contemporary city asserts the need for new paradigms and conceptual frameworks for reconfiguring the relationship between the urban environment and the natural environment. In order to understand whether biophilic design, planning, and policies can meet the global challenges regarding the future existence on earth of humans, focus groups were conducted to investigate how people’s relationship with the built-up space and the natural landscape is perceived, and to what extent the inclusion of nature and its patterns at various levels of urban planning meets people’s expectations. The results suggest that biophilic design and planning can be considered a useful paradigm to deal with the challenges that are posed by the city of the future, also in terms of sustainability, by reinterpreting and enhancing the human–nature relation in the urban context.

This article explores some visual narratives of the architectural landscape of Alma-Ata city (modern Almaty). Historical narratives produced or studied by historians in the text are no less vividly and distinctly manifested in the visual sphere. In many ways, this can be attributed to the design of urban space and its architecture. Architecture not only directly depends on the socio-political, ideological, and symbolic regime, but often creates it. Being a product of the era, a zone of perception and reflection of its impulses, the architectural landscape of the city creates a socio-cultural space, which in turn forms the mental background for the inhabitants of this city. Knowledge about cities is a special subject field for comparative urban studies, including a culturalanthropological and ethnographic basis. The article attempts to describe the two main architectural narratives of the city of Almaty (Stalinist Empire style and Soviet modernism) and their projections in the space of historical memory, as well as the relationship of these narratives with the corresponding ideologies (imperial geopolitical ambitions of the USSR in the post-war period and the ideology of modernism of the 60-80s biennium). The problem of updating the cultural heritage of Soviet architecture in the historical memory of the Kazakh society is also posed.

Abstract: For the building of a new approach about spatial interactions that overcomes the classical view of simple displacement, it is necessary to relate the transforming and dialectic nature of interactions to geographic space. The contact between different spatial elements through transportation allows the emergence of a new and superior feature of material conformations that reinforce the dialectical character. In capitalism, these interactions occur according to hegemonic interests of recovery, shaping inequalities between economic sectors, branches of activities, and spaces, that distort the interactions that promote them. In urban space, such processes collide and combine, showing a conflict fractions of capital responsible for structuring the space of the city. The relationship between transportation and the structure of the city is quite appropriate to give substance to these discussions. Keywords: spatial interactions; public transportation; labor value; city structure.

Este estudo tem como objetivo desenvolver uma análise sobre as propagandas imobiliárias na cidade de Vitória, entre as décadas de 1950 a 1970, no qual identificamos as estratégias do setor da construção imobiliária em relação a cozinha como item diferencial do imóvel e inserido no sistema de produção da sociedade de consumo.ABSTRACTThis study aims to develop an analysis of the kitchen of the residential apartments in the city of Vitoria, between the 1950s and 1970s, as a space connected to the transformations promoted by capitalism. It was carried out a qualitative survey of advertisements published in a newspaper, as well as the use of authors who approach the relationship between the production of the urban space and the food. From this analysis, it was possible to verify that the transformation in the kitchen is indicative of the way of life established by the Brazilian urbanization during this period. Keywords: Kitchen; Urban space; Advertising.

Palavras-chave: reestruturação urbano-industrial; patrimônio cultural; produção do espaço urbano. PRESERVE FOR WHOM? THE CONTRADICTIONS IN THE PRESERVATION OF THE URBAN-INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE IN CAMPINAS (SP) Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between urban-industrial restructuring and conflicts in the conservation of the industrial heritage of Campinas. The analysis privileges the late 1970s to 2014, years in which the highlighted processes were intensified. As methodological procedures, our research had: bibliographic review, fieldwork, interviews, documentary research, cartographic production. The study shows that, in Campinas, the high number of legally protected buildings associated with the daily dimension of work indicates a political tendency to preserve working, railway and industrial memory. However, many rules contradictorily contributed to the deterioration of specimens of the city's industrial heritage. In this sense, the projects and actions driven by the producing agents of the urban space of Campinas – the municipal public power, the businessmen, the residents (old and new), the institutions and the political groups for the defense of the heritage – evidence the conflicts over the uses, functions and the material and symbolic appropriation of the city. Keywords: urban-industrial restructuring; cultural heritage; urban space production. AbstractFruit plants are very beneficial for human and environment, including their role is protecting green areas in residential areas, but their presence in the yard today is threatened because the increasing conversion of land functions from yard to building for shelter along with the increase in the number of people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution of population density, the relationship between population density and diversity of fruit plants, community adaptation to conserve fruit plants and yard, and to give the recommendation for fruit plants and yard conservation in Godean Sub-District, Sleman District. The methods used are observation and utilizing secondary data with a research period of ten months. The study found that the population density in eastern part of Godean District (approaching the City of Yogyakarta) had higher numbers. The higher population density is, the lower diversity and evenness index, the higher the dominance index, the fewer the number of fruit plants found, and the less green areas in residential areas. Locations with higher population densities are adapted to conserve the fruit plants and yard. These findings support the concept of productive landscapes. Recommendation for fruit plants and yard conservation was compiled by maintaining goverment and citizen efforts that are felt to be effective, repairing or eliminating ones that are less effective and making new recommendation with the hope that it can protect the environment by protecting green areas in residential areas based on problems found in the field.
