EVERYDAY PRACTICE OF MOTHERS IN A PROVINCIAL SOVIET CITY IN THE 1950–60S

The article reveals the measures undertaken by the Soviet state during the “thaw” in the fi eld of reproductive behaviour, the protection of motherhood and childhood. Compilations, manuals and magazines intended for women were the most important regulators of behaviour, determining acceptable norms and rules. Materials from sources of personal origin and oral history make it possible to clearly demonstrate the real feelings of women. The study of women’s everyday and daily life in the aspect related to pregnancy planning, bearing and raising children will allow us to compare the real situation and the course of implementation of tasks in the fi eld of maternal and child health. The demographic surge in the conditions of the economy reviving after the war, the lack of preschool institutions, as well as the low material wealth of most families, forced women to adapt to the situation. In the conditions of combining the roles of mother, wife and female worker, women entrusted themselves with almost overwork, which affected the health and well-being of the family. The procedure for legalising abortion gave women not only the right to decide the issue of motherhood themselves, but also made open the already necessary, but harmful to health, habitual way of birth control. Maternal care in diffi cult material and housing conditions became the concern of women and the older generation, who helped young women to combine the role of a working mother, which the country’s leadership confi dently assigned to women.

Political philosophers’ interest in the family—understood as a unit in which one or more adults discharge a socially and legally recognized role as primary carers of their children—has given rise to a rich and multifaceted body of literature. Some of the questions philosophers address concern justice and the family, specifically, that is, they concern the competing claims of individuals once it is acknowledged that, as well as being citizens, individuals have all been members of families as infants, and may be members of families as parents, and that how the family is structured and run has a profound impact on the prospects and opportunities of infants and of their parents, and on some interests of society as a whole. Two main sets of questions about the family and justice are as follows. The first set of questions concerns what the family owes society as a matter of justice, that is, how the family can and should help realize, or how it may hinder the achievement of, independently formulated demands of justice. One such demand is that of equality of opportunity: philosophers have debated whether the existence of the family necessarily threatens pursuit of equality of opportunity for children, and what may, or should, be done about this. They have offered a variety of diagnoses of the problem and solutions to it, depending on their views about the legitimacy of parental partiality and about the value of the parent–child relationship. Another demand of justice that may be in tension with the family is the demand not to diminish the fair shares of one’s fellow-citizens. Whether prospective parents must constrain their freedom to found and raise a family in light of considerations about the environmental impact that their having and rearing children will have for future generations, for example, is a growing concern among philosophers. The second set of questions about the family and justice concern what society owes families—that is, what citizens owe to one another as a matter of justice, insofar as they are actual or potential members of families. While there is widespread agreement that adults have a right to parent—and to parent their biological children, in particular—and that children have a right to be raised in families and typically by their biological parents, there is a wealth of different views regarding the grounds of these rights. The views differ depending on whether they appeal to people’s interests in freedom, or in well-being, or both, in order to justify access to the family. Whether, besides having the right to access the family, parents also have claims to having society share in the costs of having and raising children, is a further question that political philosophers have examined and on which they have offered diverging answers.

В статье рассмотрены становление института пожизненного лишения свободы как самостоятельного вида наказания, условия назначения его судами. Проанализированы социально-демографические особенности личности осужденных к пожизненному лишению свободы, установлен среднестатистический возраст осужденных к пожизненному лишению свободы, эффективность ресоциализации данной категории осужденных с участием в воспитательном процессе родственников, ориентирующая их на реализацию права условно-досрочного освобождения. Учитывая степень тяжести налагаемых в ходе реализации пожизненного лишения свободы ограничений конституционных прав и свобод человека, при назначении пожизненного лишения свободы следует исходить из того, что данный вид наказания является исключительной мерой и назначение иного более мягкого вида наказания не обеспечит достижение реализации целей уголовного наказания. Успешной ресоциализации осужденных должно способствовать формирование у личности осужденного устойчивой социально полезной линии поведения посредством совокупности факторов, включающих формирование позитивного отношения к труду, социально-ценностных установок, сопряженных с осознанием роли семьи, процесса воспитания детей. Важную мотивационную составляющую для избрания осужденным социально полезной линии поведения представляет собой реализация института условно-досрочного освобождения. Life imprisonment as the most serious type in the current system of punishments requires further study in terms of achieving the goals of criminal punishment in its implementation. The article considers the formation of the institution of life imprisonment as an independent type of punishment, the conditions for its appointment by the courts. The socio-demographic features of the person sentenced to life imprisonment are analyzed, the average age of those sentenced to life imprisonment is established, the effectiveness of resocialization of this category of convicts with the participation of relatives in the educational process, which orients them to the realization of the right to parole. Given the severity of the restrictions imposed on constitutional rights and freedoms imposed during the implementation of life imprisonment, it should be assumed that this type of punishment is an exceptional measure and the imposition of another lighter type of punishment will not achieve the goals of criminal punishment. The successful resocialization of convicts should be facilitated by the formation of a stable socially useful line of behavior in the person of the convict through a combination of factors, including the formation of a positive attitude to work, socio-value attitudes associated with the awareness of the role of the family, and the process of raising children. The institution of parole was an important motivating component for the election of socially useful behaviour by convicts.

This article discusses the role of the family in the social development of children with special needs in an inclusive educational environment, in connection with which the study addresses a new aspect of the interaction between the teacher and the child’s family, the interaction of the teacher (teacher) and parents of children with developmental disabilities is highlighted in a variety of areas, students in secondary schools or attending kindergartens. The purpose of the study is to assess the role of the family in the adaptation of children with developmental disabilities, studying in secondary schools or attending kindergartens. To achieve this goal, the author defines a range of research tasks: to study the historical and philosophical foundations of the role of the family in raising children with special needs; highlight the role of the family in implementing early intervention programs in secondary schools; substantiate the main stages that any school must go through, striving to create a more fruitful relationship between the school, family and community. The author stated the following results as a scientific novelty: general recommendations have been developed so that parents feel confident, competent and can work more productively together with teachers (educators) when children visit kindergarten groups (classes). As a result of the study, the author came to the conclusion that the process of teaching children with special needs in a comprehensive school is most effective in the interaction of the teacher and the family of the child.

This chapter discusses the right to avoid procreation and the regulation of pregnancy from a European perspective. The legal basis for a right to avoid procreation can be said to fall within the scope of several provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), an instrument that is binding for all European countries. Here, Article 12 of the ECHR gives men and women of marriageable age the right to marry and found a family in accordance with the national laws governing this right. However, Article 12 protects some elements of the right not to procreate, but for couples only. The lack of common European consensus in this area highlights how matters relating to the right to decide on the number and spacing of children touch on aspects that differ from country to country even in what could appear to be a homogenous region. In fact, the cultural, moral, and historical milieus that surround these rights differ considerably with diverse national perceptions of the role of the family, gender equality, religious and moral obligations, and so on.

The role of the family has the influence to overcome all obstacles both from internal and external students in realizing all the ideals and hopes. Family support can increase learning motivation, sense of security and attention of students who are still in school. The form of family expression through empathy and acceptance helps students with enthusiasm to manifest individual enthusiasm in the learning process. High learning motivation is also caused by school well-being which is used by school institutions to understand all the basic needs for students and hope that individuals feel satisfaction, well-being and comfort in school with all the processes so as to reduce low learning motivation, this makes students feel prosperous, happy, happy in studying at school. This study aims to determine the effect of family support and school well-being on learning motivation in students of SMP Negeri 1 Telukjambe Timur Karawang. The number of samples used was 205 students of SMP Negeri 1 grades 7 and 8 East Telukjambe using probability sampling method. Based on the multiple regression analysis test that there is an influence between family support and school well-being on the learning motivation of students of SMP Negeri 1 Telukjambe Timur Karawang grades 7 and 8 with a Sign value. 0.000 <0.005, which means that family support and school well-being affect students' learning motivation by 23.1%. Keywords: Learning motivation, family support, school well-being Peran keluarga memiliki pengaruh untuk mengatasi segala rintangan baik dari internal maupun ekternal siswa dalam mewujudkan semua cita-cita dan harapan. Dukungan keluarga mampu meningkatkan motivasi belajar, rasa aman dan perhatian siswa yang masih duduk dibangku sekolah. Bentuk ungkapan keluarga melalui empati dan penerimaan membantu siswa dengan semangat untuk mewujudkan semangat individu dalam proses belajarnya. Motivasi belajar yang tinggi juga di sebabkan oleh school well-being yang, dijadikan oleh institusi sekolah untuk memahami segala kebutuhan mendasar bagi siswa dan berharap individu merasakan kepuasan, kesejahteraan dan kenyamanan di sekolah dengan segala prosesnya sehingga mengurangi rendahnya motivasi belajar hal ini membuat siswa merasa sejahtera, senang, bahagia di dalam menuntut ilmu di sekolah. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dukungan keluarga dan school well-being terhadap motivasi belajar pada siswa SMP Negeri 1 Telukjambe Timur Karawang. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan 205 siswa SMP Negeri 1 kelas 7 dan 8 Telukjambe Timur dengan menggunakan metode probability sampling. Berdasarkan uji analisis regresi berganda bahwa terdapat pengaruh antara dukungan keluarga dan school well-being terhadap motivasi belajar siswa SMP Negeri 1 Telukjambe Timur Karawang kelas 7 dan 8 dengan nilai Sign. 0,000 < 0,005 yang artinya dukungan keluarga dan school well-being mempengaruhi motivasi belajar siswa sebesar 23.1%. Concordant with classical theoretical guidelines (i.e., social facilitation, social constructivism theory, and the Pygmalion effect) we tested the need for competition and perception of being valued by teachers to be better motivated for learning in school. We extend knowledge by testing these associations mediated by the social economic status given by the well-being of the family (i.e., controlling for gender and socio-economic status). A total of 214 Romanian students (45.3% boys) with ages between 13 and 17 years were administered the PEER questionnaire (i.e., perception of being valued by teachers, school-children motivation, and the need for competition). Results show a positive relation between the need for competition and motivation for learning. We also found positive relations between the perception of being valued by the teacher and motivation for learning and the need for competition. We conclude that motivation is higher when the need for competition is higher and the perception of being valued by teachers is higher.

PurposeThe raising of grandchildren by grandparents is a global phenomenon, and it is common in Indonesia. This is because parents are often unable or unwilling to raise their own children. However, the debate around “grandparenting” is still limited in Indonesia. The purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the experience and views of grandparents on “grandparenting.”Design/methodology/approachThe methodology employed was qualitative and informed by phenomenology. The authors conducted in-depth interviews with 13 grandparents who were raising their grandchildren who were under five years old. The data were analyzed using thematic content analysis.Findings5 main themes and 13 subthemes emerged from the analysis of the data. The themes were responses, strategies for overcoming negative responses, the grandparents’ role, the reason for raising grandchildren, and the cultural aspect of “grandparenting” in Java. All of the grandparents enjoyed their roles as grandparents. They felt that they helped fulfill their grandchildren’s physical and educational needs.Social implicationsThe experience of raising a grandchild can be both positive and negative, depending on the cultural aspects in the Java and the family as a whole system. Grandparents require healthcare and informal support to maintain their well-being.Originality/valueThis paper provides new insights into “grandparenting” closely related to social and cultural aspect within the community. Grandparents enjoy being a part of the Javanese tradition. The supportive role of grandparents in Indonesia is important. However, older adults need to balance the role of “grandparenting” and rest time so that they remain healthy and happy.

The role of the family in Swedish welfare policyIn the present article, I discuss the role of the family in Swedish welfare policy, from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. I analyse men’s and women’s time use and focus on the organization of paid and unpaid work. I describe how time allocation varies with gender, family status, and life cycle. The analysis shows that the family plays a more important role in practice than in theory, mainly through the fact that women perform more unpaid work (housework and caregiving) than men, which affects both their income and their well-being negatively. I argue that gender equality must be given a more prominent position in Swedish welfare policy. For example, family policy must be reformed, with gender equality on the labour market and in the home as an explicit goal. The present situation for working parents is different from that of previous decades when Swedish family policy was formulated. Reforms are thus necessary for safeguarding welfare and population well-being in the short and long run.

The paper deals with contribution of Muslim philosophers, scholars, scientists and psychologists for psychology in the early development period of psychology. One of the major aim of this paper is to re-evaluate the real and factual origin of concepts about the treatments, theories, psycho-therapies, meditation etc. Today the western countries are ruling over the psychology development. The paper explains and establishes the argument that the Concepts and theories are formed with the contribution of Muslim thoughts and ideas. Islamic approaches and interpretation play a role in the advancement of psychology. The paper focuses on several Muslim scholars like Imam Ghazali, Ashraf Ali Yhanvi, Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi, Abu-Ali al-Husayn ibn Abdalah ibn-Sina,etc. whose contributions are not mentioned in any academic discussion or textbooks of psychology or related publication. So the paper will be a thoughtful work for the psychologists to rethink about the contribution and the role of Islam and Muslims in psychology. Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is one of the best person who lived in this world to lead the humans toward well- being in all perspectives of life. The paper concludes with the argument that the Islamic concepts and Muslim scholars have a great role in the advancement of psychology.
