Literary work, such as a novel, is an imitation of the facts that it can be analyzedin symbol that can show how the facts enter in it. Semiotic is one approach thatcan be used to analyze how the symbol works in a literary work. This study is toexplain on how Orwell portrays Napoleon in his Animal farm, to explain on howStalin is, and to explain the aspects that Napoleon symbolizes Stalin in Orwell’sAnimal Farm. The data, which is analyzed in terms of semiotic analysis, isselected into the symbol of Napoleon because this central character has a bigpart of the story. The researcher thinks that Orwell reflects this character toanimal which has a hidden purpose and considers that animal relates to personswhich the story is made. There are three problems to discuss, namely (1) whatare Napoleon’s traits? (2) What are Stalin’s traits? (3) What aspects doesNapoleon symbolize Stalin? Every place on earth has a name. The origin of place names generally has different backgrounds, stories, and histories. Generally, it depends on who gave the name of the place. There is a meaning and purpose behind the naming. This study aims to determine the socio-cultural ecological life of the community in an area and analyze the meaning contained in the socio-cultural context. This qualitative research is sourced from 26 informants. In addition to interviews, this research relies on observation and documentation studies to obtain a comprehensive toponym. This research was conducted at Gedong Tataan. Gedong Tataan is an area where is located that shows the history of transmigration in Lampung during the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that the naming of Gedong Tataan by the Javanese is influenced by the physical aspects of the area based on the socio-cultural aspect of Java. This study concludes that all areas inhabited by Javanese transmigrants in Lampung have a toponym according to the origin of the population from Java, including the use of the Javanese language for daily communication. This behavior belongs to the realm of cultural preservation and it still thrives in migration and transmigration areas.

Generally, metaphor is a language style that is often used as a form of creativity in communicating. However, the wider scope of the use of metaphors has led to interference from other aspects, one of which is the cultural aspect. Cultural aspect is considered to play an important role in shaping the way each individual perceives something. To prove this perspective, this study aims to identify whether the use of metaphors can be influenced by culture, when compared to the perspective of linguistic relativity. The object of this research was discourse text in Deutchewelle newspapers in Indonesian and German. The 5-Step Metaphor Analysis Method was used in this research. From the results of the meaning analysis that has been done, it shows that there is a conceptual metaphor use which is influenced by cultural aspect. This means that the use of metaphors based on the perspective of linguistic realativity is acceptable.

<p>Re-connecting with Māori identity through parametric design has been investigated through this body of research by focussing on mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge). Ultimately asking: “There is a place for parametric design to help translate Māori narratives, values and procedures into architectural form”. The designer’s intent through this body of research was to re-enforce old ties with local iwi, re-learn one’s whakapapa (stories/narratives), and re-connect with one’s sense of self through embedding this knowledge into a coded design. The objective was to achieve a design output that is fundamentally built on mātauranga Māori and cultural practices of Ngāti Kahungunu (iwi in the Hawkes Bay that extends down the East coast of New Zealand’s North Island). When a design begins with such an intent, the generated output is unexpected, surprising and changes perception of what a particular structure is meant to be or do. The ideas touched upon in this research is merely a seed to what can be achieved when using parametric design to produce a culturally significant design. Finding one significant cultural aspect, in this case the power of loci, is one of the most important steps in building the design tikanga (protocols/scope) that will find its way into all aspects of the designs produced. This informed the reasoning for the parameters used, the range of variation and how one step progressed to the next.</p>

This study aims to identify the structure of portmanteau words of English food and beverage names in linguistic and relates to cultural views. Descriptive qualitative is applied to this research by finding several data in Supermarket, Mall, Café, Restaurant, and Websites in Indonesia. They are 37 collected data of the portmanteau words that have been earned from March up to July 2020. It is analyzed by revealing their formations in the linguistic concept of word formation (blending), which is proposed by Böhmerová theory and relates to the cultural aspect. The results show that the blending types of English food and beverage's names are fused and the telescoped blend. Those combinations of blending word structures are determinative and coordinative noun. Linguistically, the relation of the portmanteau words of food and beverages name to cultural aspects is entailed in the borrowing word. Those relations represent global food identity as the output of culture formed by the English language. This study is essential not only to develop new vocabularies through the word-formation of blending in the study of linguistic but also its relation to the cultural aspect.

The body plays an important role in the book of Job – as do animals. According to psychoanalytical specifically object-relations theory, a subjective body image was partly constructed through the internalisation of external stimuli from significant others who mirrored the subject through their feedback or through their own bodies, which served as an ideal or critique to the subject. Amongst the external stimuli, animals constitute such significant others. Animals could therefore have impacted Job’s subjective body image, particularly as their bodies were described in detail by God as a response to Job’s complaints and searching.Contribution: Two theoretical and interrelated problems were acknowledged although they cannot be satisfactorily solved: the cultural aspect of the body image and the relationship to animals.
