The article considers the pedagogical culture of future masters as a component of professional competence, considers the fundamentalization of education by various scholars as a necessary condition for the pedagogical culture of future masters. The integrative core of a professional teacher is a highly formed pedagogical culture that allows individuals to self-actualize and self-realize in life, to find personal meanings in education. And the more the teacher has a pedagogical culture, the more complete will be his self-realization. Professional culture involves the ability to be a mediator, a «mediator» between students and educational material. Assimilation of this material occurs directly in the learning process, so the teacher must be ready to perform the role of advisor, assistant, consultant, communicator, partner. Successful performance of these tasks is facilitated by the presence of the qualities revealed in the article. Different points of view and approaches to the definition of the concept of fundamentalization of education are revealed. The concepts of fundamentalization of professional training of the future specialist are based on the purposes and functions of fundamentalization and on ways and means of its achievement, etc. Most authors agree only that: the fundamentalization of education is aimed at improving the quality of education and education of the individual and is necessary for the formation of pedagogical culture of future masters as part of their professional competence. Others imply the formation of culture and worldview, increasing creative and intellectual potential, the formation of professional competence of the specialist and the potential for further education, and so on. It was found that professional training includes not only the activities of teachers and students who form the learning process, but also the independent activities of the subject, self-development, assimilation of experience by the subject through analysis, understanding and transformation of the field of activity in which he included. It is revealed through the implementation of which approaches to the fundamentalization of higher professional education it becomes possible to form the pedagogical culture of future masters as a component of their professional competence, which contributes to improving the quality of training of future professionals in free economic education.

The quality of life of citizens in a city is related to the sustainable decisions made by their leaders. By using principal component analysis (PCA) and taking an intellectual capital perspective (all sources of knowledge in human, relational and structural areas), we explore which of the three dimensions used to measure the sustainability of a city—economic, social or environmental—has the greatest effect on a subjective measurement of quality of life. We propose an econometric model based on a tangible production model to study the relationship between the quality of life and sustainability. To that end, we perform an in-depth examination of the different effects on the four dimensions that comprise the measure of the subjective quality of life: satisfaction, mobility, integration and public service. The results of the estimated model of citizens’ quality of life confirm the existence of a direct relationship for the 52 European cities under study; however, the least relevant role is played by the environmental dimension, which is still unappreciated by citizens. Conversely, the economic and social dimension are found to be determinants in all cases, except for social integration. Therefore, a key requirement of the management aimed at achieving sustainable development in European cities is to activate the environmental dimension.

This study analyzed factors associated with the quality of life (QoL) of prison officers (POs) in the Midwest Region of Brazil. POs in five penitentiary units participated in this cross-sectional study. Sociodemographic data were obtained through face to face interview and a World Health Organization Quality of Life abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire was applied to assess QoL. Student’s t-test or ANOVA were used for bivariate analysis and multiple linear regression was applied for adjusted analysis. The domains used for outcomes were: physical, psychological, social relations, and the environment. The lowest score among WHOQOL-BREF domains was environment (59.9; 95%CI 58.0–61.5). After adjustment, the factors associated with the physical domain were ‘female sex’ and ‘no history of workplace PO-PO violence’; factors associated with the psychological domain were ‘female sex’, ‘without spouse’, and ‘no history of inmate-PO violence’; factors associated with the social relationships domain were ‘female sex’, ‘work experience in years’, ‘no higher education’, ‘no private health insurance’, and ‘no history of inmate-PO violence’; and factors associated with environment domain were ‘female sex’, ‘work experience in years’, ‘no private health insurance’, and ‘no history of PO-PO violence’. This study showed that female workers and those with a history of violence at work had worse QoL scores. This investigation highlights the importance of prison management in promoting QoL of POs, as well as support and development of strategies to prevent workplace violence.

IntroductionOnly few international studies have focused on mental diseases among the hearing-impaired population. However, Fellinger et al. (2012) underline the high discrepancy between the current and future demand of mental treatment and the simultaneous impeded access to health care.AimsThe aim of this multicenter project is to conduct the first analysis of mental diseases among the hearing-impaired population in Germany in order to quantify and qualify the specific demands of treatment.ObjectivesIn order to achieve this aim, we compiled an extensive questionnaire battery.MethodsThis questionnaire battery measured sociodemographic data, non-verbal intelligence, quality of life, perception and suffering from stress, psychosomatic symptoms as well as personality traits.ResultsOur three samples consisted of 21 hearing-impaired patients with a history of mental diseases (EG-HI), 21 hearing-impaired subjects without mental diseases (CG-HI) and 21 hearing participants without any psychological disease (CG-H). Compared to the two control groups, the EG-HI shows significantly higher rates in different fields, i.e. participants perceive a lower quality of life, suffer from more psychosomatic symptoms and show more pronounced personality traits. The two control groups did not differ significantly from each other.ConclusionsCertain psychological characteristics among hearing-impaired patients can be detected which need to be accounted for in treatment. Furthermore, a hearing impairment is not inevitably linked to a reduced quality of life or even mental disorders. Therefore, future research should focus on risk factors and protective factors which could prevent mental diseases among the hearing-impaired population.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.
