Abstract. Technological developments affect people's lifestyles. Including in high school students, currently many high school students have an Android-based mobile phone whose utilization is not maximal. The use of learning media is something that cannot be separated and is already an integration of the learning methods used, learning media can explain what the teacher is less able to say through words, so abstractness in a subject concept can be concretized. This study aims to determine the potential use of android-based learning media in the XI class of high school animal material. With the use of android students can repeat animal network material and students can better understand the concepts in learning, can repeat lessons that have not yet been understood as a result of lack of face-to-face time in class, and can also make students independent learning because of the availability of subject matter which can be accessed anywhere using Android. The results of this study indicate that the use of android in learning can attract students' interest and motivation in learning and also help students understand concepts in animal tissue material and can make students learn independently. The development of animation learning media that can be run on an Android-based device can increase the benefits of using Android-based devices and help the learning process of students using Android-based devices. This development and research use research and development design based on the ADDIE development model. Keywords: android application, learning media

Background and Purpose: Recent technological advancements and Covid-19 pandemic have prompted more opportunities for online learning. However, there is a dearth of empirical research that is focused on high school students. Therefore, this study aims to obtain a more comprehensive view of ESL learners’ involvement or word contributions in a ‘normal’ face-to-face situation and in a synchronous online text-based environment by relating it to their personality and language proficiency. Methodology: In this study, a quasi-experiment was carried out over four weeks. It involved eight sessions of face-to-face and online discussions with 48 Malaysian high school students who were divided into two matched-sample groups. The participants' feedback was used to support and provide insights on the findings. The quantitative data were analysed using using IBM SPSS statistics 26 software while the participants’ responses to the online feedback session were analysed using open coding and axial coding strategies. Findings: Statistically significant difference was found in learners’ word contributions during face-to-face and online discussions. Apart from the extroverts with high-intermediate language proficiency, the other groups of learners who are either introverts or having lower level language proficiency were found to produce significantly more words in synchronous online text-based discussions. The non-face-to-face context of online forums might have lowered the learners’ level of anxiety and increased their confidence to interact with their peers. Contributions: Learners’ personalities and language proficiency levels should be considered when choosing a discussion setting and when facilitating discussion activities. More support should be provided for the less proficient or introverted learners to express themselves in a face-to-face discussion. Keywords: Personality, Language proficiency, Computer-mediated communication, Synchronous text-based online discussions, Word contributions Cite as: Chew, S. MCR as a non-governmental organization focused on providing education and other supporting activities related to reproductive health education issues to high school students. However, the efforts that have been done still get less satisfied feedback from students, because they have not been able to deliver thoroughly. This is due to the inadequate facilities used especially for a large number of participants in the school who visited and the number of MCR volunteers are limited so that the extension only covers the city of Bandung. In addition, there is no regular schedule that can be used for extension activities Thus, it takes an internet-based learning media that creates independent learning process and without limitation of space and time. One important aspect of the development of learning media is the usability that is closely related to the user interface. The approach used for designing user interface model is by using goal-directed design method. Begin by identifying user objectives and behaviours and translating into user models of learning media of reproductive health. We have tested usability with QUIM parameters of user interface model generated through goal-directed design implementation, which reaches average usability percentage more than 85%, so it can be said to comply usability element with a very good category.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in several countries being locked down, there has been a paradigm shift in terms of learning worldwide. As a result, educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have acted swiftly and shifted from face-to-face education to distance learning. Thus, this study investigated high school students’ perspectives on the distance learning of mathematics. The research employed a quantitative method using a developed and validated online survey. The convenience sampling consisted of 580 high school students in Al Ain. Descriptive statistical analysis of the mean and standard deviation of scores was used and then interpreted based on Gagné’s rating (1991). In general, the results showed that the students had an ambivalent view of their distance learning experience. Notably, students’ most negative perceptions were about missing the interaction with teachers and colleagues, and disapproving of the unfavourably long screen times. Furthermore, 78.3% of the participants showed no preference for choosing to study mathematics by distance learning in the future, given a choice. This study has extra relevance since the process of distance learning has become more prevalent in the UAE owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, it is imperative that educational institutions try to understand the complexity and embedded nature of distance learning, and the challenges encountered by students while they are studying mathematics in an online environment.

BACKGROUND Psychosocial problems such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are common and burdensome in young people. In New Zealand, screening for such problems is undertaken routinely only with year 9 students in low-decile schools and opportunistically in pediatric settings using a nonvalidated and time-consuming clinician-administered Home, Education, Eating, Activities, Drugs and Alcohol, Sexuality, Suicide and Depression, Safety (HEEADSSS) interview. The Youth version, Case-finding and Help Assessment Tool (YouthCHAT) is a relatively new, locally developed, electronic tablet–based composite screener for identifying similar psychosocial issues to HEEADSSS OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the performance and acceptability of YouthCHAT with face-to-face HEEADSSS assessment among 13-year-old high school students. METHODS A counterbalanced randomized trial of YouthCHAT screening either before or after face-to-face HEEADSSS assessment was undertaken with 129 13-year-old New Zealand high school students of predominantly Māori and Pacific Island ethnicity. Main outcome measures were comparability of YouthCHAT and HEEADSSS completion times, detection rates, and acceptability to students and school nurses. RESULTS YouthCHAT screening was more than twice as fast as HEEADSSS assessment (mean 8.57 min vs mean 17.22 min; mean difference 8 min 25 seconds [range 6 min 20 seconds to 11 min 10 seconds]; P<.01) and detected more issues overall on comparable domains. For substance misuse and problems at home, both instruments were roughly comparable. YouthCHAT detected significantly more problems with eating or body image perception (70/110, 63.6% vs 25/110, 22.7%; P<.01), sexual health (24/110, 21.8% vs 10/110, 9.1%; P=.01), safety (65/110, 59.1% vs 17/110, 15.5%; P<.01), and physical inactivity (43/110, 39.1% vs 21/110, 19.1%; P<.01). HEEADSSS had a greater rate of detection for a broader set of mental health issues (30/110, 27%) than YouthCHAT (11/110, 10%; P=.001), which only assessed clinically relevant anxiety and depression. Assessment order made no significant difference to the duration of assessment or to the rates of YouthCHAT-detected positive screens for anxiety and depression. There were no significant differences in student acceptability survey results between the two assessments. Nurses identified that students found YouthCHAT easy to answer and that it helped students answer face-to-face questions, especially those of a sensitive nature. Difficulties encountered with YouthCHAT included occasional Wi-Fi connectivity and student literacy issues. CONCLUSIONS This study provides preliminary evidence regarding the shorter administration time, detection rates, and acceptability of YouthCHAT as a school-based psychosocial screener for young people. Although further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in other age and ethnic groups, YouthCHAT shows promise for aiding earlier identification and treatment of common psychosocial problems in young people, including possible use as part of an annual, school-based, holistic health check. This study aimed to determine the factors that affect the independent learning of accounting students at a vocational high school. Independent learning can be implemented by someone if they have self-confidence. In addition, other factors that can be influential are student motivation and creativity. Motivation is an important factor because this can encourage students to carry out learning activities, and motivation will lead to creativity in learning. This explanatory quantitative research involved three independent variables and one dependent variable. The sample was obtained from vocational high school students in Malang majoring in accounting. Data were collected using a questionnaire, while the data were analyzed using multiple regression. The results showed that self-confidence had a significant effect on student independent learning. Motivation and creativity were also influential. These results reinforce the theory of constructivism where, in learning, a person must build on their own knowledge and learn from the experiences gained by others. Suggestions for further research include examining additional variables that may affect independent learning. Keywords: Self-Confidence, Learning Motivation, Learning Creativity, Learning Independence
