scholarly journals An Association between Emotional Intelligence and Performance of Workforce

The undertaken subject could be considered controversial, some people take ‘emotional intelligence’ as a non-existent matter, while others see it as having a huge impact on employee performance. The present research analyses the association and impact of emotional intelligence (EI) on workforce performance while taking into account demographic features along with individual clusters of emotional intelligence. The Emotional Competence Inventory model is considered to explore EI and its four dimensions- self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness and relationship management. The domain of study is UAE, where hardly such a topic is being explored earlier. A quantitative study is employed with a sample of 119 participants accessed through convenience approach from diverse sectors such as banking, education, health, engineering and recruitment of UAE. The statistical tools such as Cronbach’s Alpha, Chi-square test, Correlation and Regression analysis including ANOVA are put to analyse the primary data to serve the basis for results & discussion. Results reflect that emotional intelligence is independent of age, gender, qualification and designation of employees. It also statistically proves that all the dimensions of emotional intelligence are not equally significant or even considerate to affect employee performance.

This study aims to identify the elements of emotional intelligence and measure their impact on employee performance in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The research uses qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The qualitative method was conducted through a survey on ten human resources experts with at least five years of experience to test the suitability of the scale and the clarity of words and content. The quantitative method is to evaluate the scale and re-test hypotheses with a sample of 217 employees. The results show that emotional intelligence exerts a positive impact on the employee performance. Specifically, the standardized betas of self-management, self-awareness, social management and social awareness skills are 0.395, 0,318, 0,178, and 0,184, respectively. The self-awareness of employees in HCMC is not as high as the other three factors, suggesting that training and coaching activities to improve employee’s emotional intelligence are necessary to enhance their performance.

This study analyzed the emotional intelligence (EQ) that occurred in the branch of Bank Muamalat Tasikmalaya associated with the behavior and performance of employees serving customers, with the number of respondents reached 68 people. The test is done by using simple linear regression with devenden variable (Y1) serving and Behavior (Y2) performance, where the indevendent variable (X) is emotional intelligence (EQ) in self-awareness identification, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill. From the result of research found that emotional intelligence (EQ) have significant effect to service behavior 48,5% and influence to employee performance equal to 39,7% significantly. The influence of t count value from 7,886 to model the influence of emotional intelligence on the service behavior and t count 6,587 to model the influence of emotional intelligence on performance and tested at α = 5% and prove the independent variable which influenced on the dependent variable, while regression analysis showed as 10,257 constants the results for the behavioral model of the influence of emotional intelligence function, and the constant of 9,553 for the model of the influence of emotional intelligence on performance, the results of this test explains that emotional intelligence (EQ) in employee roles improves the behavior and performance of Bank employees serving the branch Muamalat Tasikmalaya.

BACKGROUND: The high work demands on nurses in their work, the greater the possibility of a nurse experiencing work stress. AIM: This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills with the work stress among nurses in the hospitalization services of Undata Hospital, Central Sulawesi Province. METHOD: It was a quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach and using the accidental sampling method. Data were collected by a questionnaire with a Likert scale and the WHO DASS questionnaire toward 63 respondents and statistically analyzed using the Chi-square test. RESULTS: A relationship between self-awareness (p = 0.034), self-management (p = 0.044), self-motivation (p = 0.012), empathy (p = 0.021), and social skills (p = 0.026) with work stress among nurses in hospitalization services of Undata Hospital, Central Sulawesi Province. CONCLUSION: Emotional intelligence affects the nurses’ work stress in a hospital during work implementation.

This study examined emotional intelligence as an instrument for enhancing the performance of project managers in the construction industry in Ibadan Metropolis. This was a view to determine the effect of the emotional intelligence (EI) of project managers on project management, as well as the relationship between project managers’ emotional intelligence and delivery of projects. The study employed survey research method to collect information from project managers, who are Quantity Surveyor, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, and Architects. Seventy five project managers were randomly selected from building and construction industry in the study areas. A well-structured questionnaire was administered to the respondents. The data collected were analysed using SPSS Version 16. Descriptive and inferential statistic consisting mean, mode, percentage, frequency, and Chi-Square test were used respectively. The results showed that emotional intelligence is important to the field of project management with an overall mean value of 4.46 on a Likert Scale of 5. Chi-Square test showed a significantly positive relationship between the emotional intelligence level of the project managers and their performance on the job. A positive significance occurs in information handling in all the four domain of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management, unlike other variables such as managing project environment and resources, organising and coordination providing for growth and development and motivation and conflict handling that show both positive and negative significances. The paper concluded that emotional intelligence is a significant phenomenon in the field of project management, because it enhances the performance of project managers.

<em>This research was conducted based on the existence of problems in the competence and physical work environment of employee performance. This study aims to determine the effect of competencies and physical work environment simultaneously or partially on the performance of employees of PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor. The sampling technique is the sample random sampling technique. The type of research used is descriptive and verivative research methods, with data collection techniques using primary data and secondary data. The results showed that competency, physical work environment, and performance were categorized quite well. Based on the calculation, it can be seen that simultaneously the competence and physical work environment have a positive and significant influence on the performance of the employees of PT. <em>Organizational learning has the potential to improve organizational performance. For any organization to sustain long term benefits it requires to establish a mechanism to tap the knowledge and use this knowledge in taking future decisions. This study tries to capture the role of Organizational Learning and Employee Motivation and its impact on the Employees’ Performance. The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature. The questionnaire used for primary data collection has its items collected and derived from various standardized questionnaires available. The analysis of the primary data shows that there is a positive correlation between Organizational Learning and Organizational Performance. On understanding Herzberg theory of motivation the study came to conclusion that employees consider hygiene factors of motivation more significant than the motivator factors. The motivation level of employees in an organization has positive impact on the overall performance of any organization. The study helps the organizations to understand the relationship between learning and performance considering motivation as a mediating variable. </em>

The utilization of MCH book could be defined to be an activity when a mother and her close relatives actively participate in reading, learning, comprehending the contents of MCH book, and implementing it in daily routine. This research aims to discover the correlation between the reading interest of pregnant mothers and the use of MCH book. This study has been approved by the research ethics committee of Yogyakarta ‘Aisyiyah University. This cross-sectional research was performed at the Community Health Centre of Mlati II Sleman Yogyakarta. Seventy-four pregnant mothers who owned MCH book were derived from incidental sampling technic. The retrieval of primary data used questioner method. The result of chi-square test states that pregnant mothers with higher reading interest will be utilizing the MCH book four times more effective compared to those with lower interest in reading (p-value: 0,005 and 95% CI: 1,488-10,902).

This study examines the outcomes of frequent relations between juvenile and adult prisoners at the populous prisons of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan in districts Mansehra, Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, Swabi and Mardan. According to SPARC (2015), there were total of 199 juvenile prisoners out of them 132 were taken as a sample size through Sekaran (2010) sample size table. The primary data was collected through interview schedule, with major aim to see association of joint dwelling of adult prisoners and juvenile inmates in the selected prisons. For measuring the association between adult and juvenile inmates, a Chi-square test was applied by using Microsoft Excel. It was found that there exist a strong association of adult with juvenile inmates; which resulted in reinforcing the delinquent behaviour of juvenile by supporting them financially, providing them with various kinds of drugs and persuading them to join their networks after they were released. Such situation was directly contradictory to the well-being of juvenile inmates at jails, where they were supposed to rehabilitate their offending behaviour. The study recommends establishment of separate jails for juvenile inmates, being inclusive part of the JJSO-2000.

Road fatalities remain a major public health concern as over 1.3 million people across the world die in road accidents annually, and another 20-50 million sustain injuries. Malawi, with vehicle ownership about 437,416, has not been an exception to this, with reported fatality rates of 35 crash deaths per 100,000 population, possibly due to limited understanding of factors that contribute to such high road fatality rates. This may have resulted in implementing inappropriate and ineffective mitigation measures. Thus, the overall objective of this study was to investigate the availability, including their functionality and usage of seatbelts in motor vehicles, which could possibly be one of the major factors for increase in road fatalities. To establish the rates of availability, ncluding their functionality and usage of seatbelts in motor vehicles, primary data through survey for a sample of 1,200 vehicles were investigated. The independent ariables of data were cross tabulated with the dependent variables to establish these rates. Chi-square test was also performed to establish the significance of associations between the cross tabulated variables. The analysis found that Malawi’s drivers and assengers poorly comply with seatbelt laws. The overall seatbelt usage rate was 35.8%. In this regard, where over 90% of motor vehicles in Malawi have functional seatbelts, poor enforcement of existing seatbelt laws and awareness on the dangers of not using eatbelts could account for the low usage.
