Purpose: The paper examines the perception of officials and professionals in implementing IFRS at pre-initial stage. India accepted to implement the IFRS from 1st April 2016 despite reluctance from practitioners. Paper explores the responses towards challenges in implementation of IFRS rather than its effects after implementation.  Design / Methodology / Approach: Quantitative research is used with use of structured questionnaire. The survey provided 192 responses from across India.Findings: Study questioned the readiness in adoption of IFRS and handling the challenges. Both officials and professionals have similar concern in implementing IFRS. Both groups agreed on the importance and usefulness of globally harmonizing AS but do not find it easy to adapt IND-AS to IFRS and have many concerns over it. Moreover, IASB is not properly emphasising in smoothening the process of implementation other than just organizing training sessions. Young and skilled professionals appreciated more of IFRS implementation than elderly and less skilled. Female participants are more receptive than men. Indian software companies were already using US GAAP norms for more than a century.Implications / Contributions: Analysis suggested IASB to focus on implementing issues and must work in coordination with national boards of every country to address those issues locally.Suggestions: Involvement of corporate houses, local authorities, boards, national agencies, professionals and officials are required for success of IFRS adoption. The Author is preparing to submit a report to IASB to facilitate them in bringing effectiveness for the same purpose.     Originality of Study / Importance: The study focuses on issues specifically raised by officials and professionals of India. No study conducted with this perspective especially on India.Scope of Study: Based on the literature review, corporate governance is identified as an important area as the scope of this study in order to bring the effectiveness of implementation phase of IFRS within Indian companies, and to identify different factors that increases risk of failure. Further, it is important to study the role of monitoring institutions, regulators, and government in encouraging professionals and officials to smoothen the implementation phase in India. Nevertheless, effects after implementation need to be studied further.

Purpose This study aims to explore the moderating impact of narcissism overload on the relation between founder CEO and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in registered private schools of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through a stratified random sampling method with the help of previously validated questionnaires. A sample of 121 replies was gathered for analysis. SPSS has been used to find the results. Findings Results depict that CEO narcissism moderates the relation between founder CEO and EO and does not moderate the relationship between and CEO ownership and EO. Originality/value Many studies focused on the founder personality characteristics (such as generalized self-efficacy or locus of control) are not directly observed, but rather inferred their effect indirectly. The study contributes to examine how the founder CEO variable interacts with CEO personality to influence EO. This study will propose a practical approach to investigate whether and how the narcissism constructs moderate the founder CEO–EO relationship. Direct association between stock ownership and EO will also be examined.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to improve the role of emergent Korean non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in disaster management by comparing general-goal NGOs and specific-goal NGOs, and ultimately goal provide lessons for international NGOs. Design/methodology/approach This study used quantitative research to analyze the issue through an international perspective. The hypothesis drafted was that if general-goal NGOs do not perform as well as specific-goal NGOs under actual conditions, their performance will have international implications. The two types of NGOs were systematically contrasted with reference to their social and political practices or culture through three variables: stakeholders, finance and strategies. Findings The main finding or recommendation is that general-goal NGOs have to be transformed into specific-goal NGOs for effective disaster management, not only in Korea but also in the international community. Originality/value When reflecting that almost no research has dared to look into the topic on the role or the type of disaster management NGOs in Korea, this paper has potential value as a pioneer study.

PurposeThe purpose of the paper is to define a range of entrepreneurial concepts and provide a critical review of their content in order to map the forms of the entrepreneurial actions within their teleological context.Design/methodology/approachBased on the authors' definition of teleology as the process of heading towards an end, entrepreneurship was categorized into a three‐item typology, namely subject, process and object. The latter served as a platform for the analysis, which reveals some key qualities about research in entrepreneurship.FindingsThe paper provides a categorization of entrepreneurship both at the distinction (subject, process, object) and the contextual level and the commonalities and differences among entrepreneurship's different teleological approaches are analyzed and the potential is offered for further avenues of research to emerge. Additionally, it is demonstrated that the teleological approaches represent distinct approaches to interpret diverse aspects of the entrepreneurial phenomenon and provide insights into the way in which the entrepreneurial process itself unfolds.Originality/valueThe paper provides an innovative categorization of entrepreneurship as subject, process and object while discussing a variety of various entrepreneurial forms through their teleological nature within each of the three categories. The paper is valuable to scholars seeking to further advance their understanding in the various fields of entrepreneurship, understand the function of the particular set of activities to be undertaken, the role of particular individuals/agents involved in the entrepreneurial process, the opportunity identification/exploitation process as well as the particular objective that each entrepreneurial form aims at fulfilling.

PurposeEntrepreneurship, in many low-resilient economies, plays a critical role in overcoming external shocks. Thus, it is crucial in such situation that entrepreneurial firms can survive and even grow so that the whole economy can benefit from a higher level of resilience. The purpose of this study is to understand how entrepreneurial orientation (EO) brings about firms' performance through the moderating role of CEOs' self-transcendence values in the context of a low-resilient sanctioned economy.Design/methodology/approachThis is a quantitative research that employs hierarchical regression analysis of a sample of 114 Iranian entrepreneurial firms composed of 62 knowledge-based and 52 creative firms.FindingsThe analysis revealed that in the low-resilient sanctioned economy, Iran, EO-performance link is moderated by the level of CEOs' self-transcendence value, that is, higher level of CEO self-transcendence leads to stronger impact of EO on performance. This moderation is not different in creative sector vs. knowledge-based sector of the economy.Originality/valueThis paper addresses a major gap in the traditional EO-performance relationship which is related to the role of CEO values. Also, the context of Iran's low level of economic resilience adds more novelty to this study, emphasizing on the role of CEO personal values of self-transcendence in times of crisis. The results could also be generalized in many economies now facing the COVID-19 pandemic crisis during which CEOs' self-transcendence values are vitally important in overcoming the difficulties of doing business in such situation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the mediating role of entrepreneurial alertness in the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and entrepreneurial orientation (EO). Design/methodology/approach This is a quantitative study using a self-report survey for information gathering. The hypotheses are tested with a sample of 112 entrepreneurs from technology-based firms in Mexico using hierarchical regression analysis. The study follows procedural and statistical recommendations from previous studies in order to strengthen the results. Findings The results demonstrate a significant and positive relationship between entrepreneurial passion and EO, and this relationship is mediated for each dimension of entrepreneurial alertness. Research limitations/implications Although there are interesting results in the study, some limitations should be recognized. First, it is important to consider the stage in which the firm is operating because it influences the firm’s behavior. Second, the generalization of the results should be validated in non-technology-based firms that operate in different contexts and conditions. The study’s findings have implications for small business support programs and entrepreneurs. Originality/value The study contributes to the emerging research of entrepreneurial passion in the field of entrepreneurship and to the scarce empirical research on entrepreneurial alertness. Both constructs are related to one of the most representative topics in the field, as is EO.
