This study is part of a project aimed at supporting the weaknesses of young people who are experiencing, or are at risk of reaching, NEET condition (Not in Education, Employment or Training; aged between 15 and 29 or 34, according to different definitions). The first signs of the extreme discomfort caused by Neet condition were sought by investigating signs of weakness in high school students in the Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Liguria regions. Of course students as such are not Neets and the anonymity required for a survey dealing with very personal issues does not allow a longitudinal study to be carried out on the same individuals. However, the construction of a comparison base referring to a generic population, relative to the incidence of certain states of weakness (or some of their combinations), will allow for a subsequent comparison with the incidence of the same difficulties in school age for those who find themselves in a Neet situation. A survey questionnaire was administered to 931 students, an operator being present in the classrooms, shortly before the start of the pandemic. Collected results will therefore be more directly linked to school activities "in presence", even if discontinuities in teaching methods and characteristics caused by the pandemic might have brought in alterations that will need to be monitored over time.

A portion of the Tavistock Self-assessment Inventory has been proposed as a measure of social anxiety, which is postulated as a personal disposition to avoid public, visible, complex, socially evaluated behavior. 80 high school students' participation in school activities, rated on a 5-point scale from passive audience participation up to the most singular, focal leadership, was the criterion of validity, under the assumption that Ss scoring high in social anxiety would avoid the more focal, visible leadership positions in activities. With controls for two other variables known to affect participation, there was no evidence above the chance level favoring the behavioral validity of the Tavistock instrument with these Ss, suggesting that similar studies on adult Ss, the original standardization population, are in order.

This paper discusses issues of identity associated with Palestinian students’ integration in an Israeli-Arab high school. These students were born to Palestinian families that are considered as ‘traitors’ by Arabs living in the Palestinian Authority and in the State of Israel. Their parents have working relations with the State of Israel and are therefore living in a large city at the north of the country. The students experience some kind of identity conflict between them and the Israeli-Arab students learning in the same school. The students who came with their parents from the Palestinian Authority, have difficulties to define themselves and they constantly try avoiding the question: Where are you from? They usually say they are from Jerusalem and they hold a blue identity card. Moreover, these students deal with language difficulties. School today constitutes an educational framework for a variety of students, characterized by different abilities and needs. This sets a rather complicated challenge to the school management and staff that have to open the school doors and provide a response to the students. This paper is grounded in theories of high school education, self-identity, conflict between identities of minorities and adolescence. It reviews the identity issues associated with the Palestinian children’s national and self-identity, as well as the steps that school and the education system can take in order to promote their integration.

A sense of belonging in the cycle of teaching and learning is important to students because if they understand acceptance into the program, they will feel more inspired, more successful, and more driven. Students understand the value of school activities in a supportive and warm atmosphere that provides a sense of belonging and acceptance.  Moreover, it is a vital necessity for every individual. The sense of belonging for schools is about achievement, suggesting that the benefit of fulfilling this need is generally higher, reaching the students. Therefore, students who do not fulfill their needs for possessions will also have lower self-esteem. Low self-esteem is often associated with depression. Low self-esteem can lead to depression, and depression lowers self-esteem. Hence, the paper describes the extent of belongingness and level of self-esteem of high school students of a Catholic college in Antique during the school year 2019-2020. Likewise, this paper explored the relationship between the students' demographics and their sense of belongingness and self-esteem.
