Human health challenges resulting from consumption of food contaminated by heavy metals necessitated the investigation of soil and cassava plants around automobile waste dumpsite at Ohiya mechanic village, Abia State, Nigeria. Soil and cassava samples collected randomly at the site were analyzed for cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr). The values of highest concentration of Cu and Pb in soil was recorded in 0-10 cm, Cr was obtained in 21-30 cm while Cd was in 11-20 cm soil depth. The concentration of Cd (0.11±0.00 to 0.26±0.00 mg/kg) in soil exceed maximum permitted level of 0.1 mg/kg (Cd) by FAO/WHO. The concentration of Pb (0.01±0.001 to 3.24±0.00 mg/kg) and Cd (0.07±0.00 to 2.08±0.00 mg/kg) in cassava plants exceed the permissible limit of 0.3 mg/kg (Pb) and 0.2 mg/kg (Cd) set by FAO/WHO. The Pearson correlation analysis show very strong positive relationship between Cu and Cu (r=0.996) and Pb and Pb (r=0.986) while strong negative relationship exist between Cr and Cr (r= -0.686) and Cd and Cd (r= -0.981) in soil and plant. Based on our findings, the concentrations of Cd in soil vis-à-vis Pb and Cd in plants which exceed maximum permitted level set by Codex Alimentarius Commission FAO/WHO will expose man and animals that relied on soil and cassava plants for food to serious health risks. Consequently, Abia State government should prevent farmers’ access to the site by fencing round the automobile waste dumpsite.

many of the post tsunami field surveys which conducted by researchers revealed that, the failure due to scour at the landward toe of the seawall due to overtopping of tsunami wave forms one of the important types of coastal defence structures failure and constitutes one of the biggest threats to their structural performance. This study was intended to investigates the scour profile induced by tsunami bores at the landward toe of the vertical seawall and to discuss the effects of the parameters; tide level, incident bore Froude number Fb, incident bore height Hb, overtopping flow Froude number Fo, and overtopping flow depth Ho on the maximum scour depth induced at the landward toe of the seawall. A set of laboratory experiments were conducted at National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) with the tichnique of dam break to generate the bore like tsunami. The experiments showed that the initial water level upstream of the seawall has a significant effect on the scour profile and there is a strong negative relationship exists with Froude number of the incident bore and a strong positive relationship exists with Froude number of the overtopping flow depth above the crest of the seawall.

This research aims to investigate the frequencies of single-clause sentences (SS) and multi-clause sentences (MS) used by IELTS test-takers in writing task 2 and the relationship between their use of single-clause sentences and band score in this section. The researcher used the descriptive comparative research design and the quantitative method design with convenient sampling with fifty (50) sample essays mainly sourced from the set of Cambridge English IELTS Academic books. After collecting the data, the researchers analyzed the data using statistical and descriptive analysis. The result shows that the percentages of single-clause and multi-clause sentences in the range between 0 and 6.0 bands are relatively equal. On the other hand, these percentages in the range of 6.5-9.0 have a significant difference. Additionally, the results of Pearson Correlation Analysis show that the frequency of single-clause sentences has an insignificant negative relationship with the IELTS writing task 2 band score. Therefore, IELTS writing task 2 compositions with more single-clause sentences are potentially graded with a lower band score.

This paper presents results of analyses of metal ions effects on hop strobili antioxidant characteristics. Determination of total phenols (TP), total flavonoids (TF) and fifteen phenolic compounds, as well as the antioxidant activity (DPPH, ABTS and FRAP) of hop extracts from eight samples was conducted using UV/Vis spectrophotometry and HPLC method. Contents of 24 elements in mineralized hop samples were determined by ICP-OES. Very strong negative relationship between TP, TF, antioxidant capacity results and Pb, Co, Cr, Sb and Na was determined applying principal component and cluster analyses. Namely, the higher concentrations of these metals were associated with lower contents of TP and TF and lower values of antioxidant tests. Impact of metal ions on phenolic and flavonoids content and antioxidant activity of hop strobili has not been previously published.

This study seeks to contribute to extant literature on the relationship between the manufacturing and non-manufacturing purchasing manager’s index (PMI) and the real gross domestic product  (GDP)  in Nigeria. The study was carried out at Statistics Department, Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja, Nigeria between 2010:Q1 – 2019:Q3 (for seasonally adjusted quarterly real gross domestic product (GDP)) and 2014:M7 – 2019:M9 (for monthly PMI). Pearson correlation test and plots  are the adopted methods. The uniqueness of this study is the utilization of growth rates for both variables as well as employing a disaggregated approach in other to drill down to discover the true drivers of the relationship between the two variables. Results shows that CBN PMI is the most reliable of the three PMI indices computed for Nigeria. In addition, input price, output   prices and quantity purchased, are the true determinants (from the manufacturing sector) of the direction of real GDP growth. Output price has a strong negative relationship with real GDP (-83%, contemporaneous), while input price too has a strong negative relationship with real GDP (-88% contemporaneous and -90% at lag 1) and quantity of purchases has a strong positive relationship with real GDP. From the non-manufacturing sector, average input price has a strong negative relationship with real GDP (-84%, with 2 periods lag), new export orders have a strong positive relationship with real GDP growth (77% with 3 periods lag) and imports also has a strong positive relationship with real GDP growth (85% with 1 period lag). Because prices have such a significant effect on GDP growth, it is recommended that both the monetary and fiscal authorities work together to curb inflation growth which has been trending upwards.

This study aims to examine the relationships between the internal environment (IERH), basic requirement policy (PRRH), and the performance of retirement homes (PRH). 205 out of 400 questionnaires returned and used for the study. The three variables under study were IERH (8 items), the PRRH (6 items), and PRH (8 items). Reliability analysis was run and all three variables showed high Cronbach Alpha values ranging from 0.83 to 0.87 thus indicating high reliability.  The findings of the Pearson Correlation analysis suggested that the relationship between IERH and PRH is r=0.80**; p=0.00, while the relationship between the PRRH and PRH is r=0.63**; p=0.00. The findings suggested that there was a positive and significant relationship between PRH with IERH and PRRH. IERH had a strong positive relationship with the PRH. In terms of the relationship between IERH and PRRH, there was a positive and a moderate relationship (r=0.54**; p=0.00). Hence, in order to promote good performance, a RH must ensure that the IERH either meets or exceeds the expectations of the tenants and fulfils the basic requirements of PRRH.

Employee turnover has become a key performance indicator for many organizations as they struggle to retain talented employees. The negative impact of turnover on organizational performance has continually forced organizational leaders to seek better ways of retaining valuable employees. The relationship between man and work has always attracted the attention of philosophers. A major part of men’s life is spent at work. Work is social reality and social expectation to which men seem to conform. It not only provides status to the individual but also binds him to the society. An employee who is satisfied with his job would perform his duties well and be committed to his job, and subsequently to his organization. This paper examines relationship among job satisfaction, organizational commitment and employees’ turnover intentions at Unilever Corporation in Nigeria. The data for this study was collected from 117 employees currently working at Unilever Nigeria PLC using the survey method via the questionnaire. Pearson Correlation and the multiple regression analysis techniques using the SPSS version 22.0 was used for the data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that both job satisfaction and organizational commitment have significant negative relationship with employee turnover intentions. In addition, organizational commitment was revealed to have a more dorminant influence on employee turnover intentions than job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the implications, recommendations, practice, and theory were discussed.

Objective: We aimed to assess significant ethnic variabilities in infants’ nasolabial anthropometry to motivate variations in surgical correction of a synchronous bilateral cleft lip/nasal anomaly, specifically whether a long columella is a European feature, therefore accepting a short columella and/or delayed columellar lengthening suitable for reconstruction in ethnic patients. Methods: Thirty-three infants without craniofacial pathology (10 African American [AA], 7 Hispanic [H], and 16 of European descent [C]), ages 3 to 8 months, presenting to the Johns Hopkins All Children’s general pediatric clinic were recruited. Four separate 3D photographs (2 submental and frontal views each) were taken using the Vectra H1 handheld camera (Canfield Imaging). Eighteen linear facial distances were measured using Mirror 3D analysis (Canfield Imaging Systems). Difference between ethnicities was measured using analysis of variance with the Bonferroni/Dunn post hoc comparisons. Pearson correlation was employed for interrater reliability. All statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS version 21.0 (IBM Corp), with statistical significance set at P < .05. Results: Nasal projection (sn-prn) and columella length (sn-c) did not differ significantly between groups ( P = .9). Significant differences were seen between ethnic groups in nasal width (sbal-sbal [C-AA; P = .02]; ac-ac [C-AA; P = .00; H-AA; P = .04]; al-al [C-AA; P = .00; H-AA; P = .001]) and labial length (sn-ls [C-AA; P = .041]; sn-sto [C-AA; P = .005]; Cphs-Cphi L [C-AA; P = .013]; Cphs-Cphi R [C-AA; P = .015]). Interrater reliability was good to excellent and significantly correlated for all measures. Conclusions: African American infants exhibited wider noses and longer lips. No difference was noted in nasal projection or columella length, indicating that these structures should be corrected during the primary cleft lip and nasal repair for all patients and should not be deferred to secondary correction.
