The paper presents the results of study the reproductive biology of a number of higher plants and shows the features of the formation of their generative structures, pollination, fertilization and seed formation. It has been established that the studied species have a high reproductive potential, they are characterized by the conjugacy in the development of male and female gametophyte and gametogenesis, the relationship and relevance of the development of flower elements and pollinating insects, etc. It is indicated that the limiting factors of high productive reproduction and reproduction of the studied plants are anomalies of the processes of formation of generative structures that occur during critical periods under the influence of extreme environmental factors, weak exchange of genetic information due to discontinuity of the area and small number of cenopopulations, as well as human impact. It is shown that the current state of natural cenopopulations of the studied rare species of the Crimean flora necessitates the development and strict observance of scientifically based measures for their protection.

The article presents the results of study some features of the development of Asphodeline taurica (Pall. ex Bieb.) Endl. in the south-western part of the Crimean peninsula. The age structure, density per m<sup>2</sup> and the type of coenopopulations of the species in various ecology-phytocenotic conditions have been described. It is shown that generative structure formation processes are mostly similar to other species of the genus Asphodeline , and the viability and peculiarities of seed formation can ensure optimal reproduction of Asphodeline taurica. The main limiting factors of species conservation and reproduction are anthropogenic impact and hydrothermal conditions during critical periods of genesis of generative structures, as well as the presence of pollinating insects during the flowering period.

The relationship between stock size and recruitment is an essential element in the understanding of the productivity of a population. However, predicting the number of recruits produced by a population has proven to be a difficult challenge. This may in part be a result of poor estimation of reproductive potential (RP). We determined if including increased information on reproductive biology in indices of RP results in better predictions of recruitment. We investigated some of the conditions that lead to better (or worse) recruitment prediction when more biologically complex indices of RP are used. Data from four populations in the Northwest Atlantic were examined: southern Grand Bank (NAFO Division 3NO) cod ( Gadus morhua ), Flemish Cap (NAFO Division 3M) cod, Newfoundland (NAFO Division 3LNO) American plaice ( Hippoglossoides platessoides ), and Greenland halibut ( Reinhardtius hippoglossoides ) (NAFO Subarea 2 + Division 3KLMNO). Stock–recruit models paired with complex indices of RP gave a better estimate of recruitment in slightly more than half of the tests conducted. When there were larger trends in the reproductive biology (maturity at age, sex ratio and egg production), more complex indices of RP were more likely to provide a better estimate of recruitment.

The paper presents the results of the study of reproductive biology of a number of valuable plants introduced to the South of Russia, as well as rare species of flora of the Crimea. Comparative analysis and understanding of the processes of generative structures formation, pollination, fertilization and seed formation of representatives of different families (Anacardiaceae, Annonaceae, Ericaceae, Magnoliaceae, Rosaceae, Rhambaceae, Davidiaceae, Nyssaceae) allowed to establish some regularities in the reproduction system, to make a conclusion about the systematic affiliation and rather high reproductive potential of the studied species. The possibilities of using knowledge of reproductive processes of flowering plants in solving various biological problems: systematics and phylogeny, identifying patterns of formation of generative structures, determining the strategy of reproduction and conservation of plant diversity, the importance of antecological aspects in plant reproduction, breeding and nature protection are shown. The material is of scientific interest to specialists in various fields.

“Canadian cinema.” The term may appear self-evident but is problematic. First, one may question the value of national approaches to culture, especially here, in Quebec and Canada, where the debates over the Nation seem interminable, and especially now, in an era of globalization. Next, one may question the value of media-centered approaches to culture, especially when the successive waves of the “digital revolution” have blurred the boundaries between technologies and among artistic practices. Rather than try to survey “important” fiction films for theatres in Quebec or Canada, this essay adopts another point of view to examine the presence of cinema in Montreal museums over the past few years by focusing on three singular exhibitions. It may well be symptomatic of the current state of film in Quebec and Canada—but also, paradoxically, everywhere else—and says much about the relationship between medium and nation, the expansion of cinema beyond the movie theatre, and the internationalization of culture.

The book contains the study results of the environmental and soil conditions of the transformed territories, the ecological patterns of woody plants natural communities’ formation as well as the features of the herbaceous communities’ succession in flooded areas. The current state of forest areas is highlighted, the problems of forest management and their exploitation in Ukraine are outlined. Aspects of anthropogenic impact on natural aquatic ecosystems are shown and various biotesting methods of negative effects are characterized. The relationship between the presence of exogenous biologically active chemical compounds in the environment and damage to the endocrine system of animals has been revealed. The scientific manuscript is intended for ecologists, specialists interested in environmental management and environmental protection. The book may be useful for graduate students and scientific researchers.

Global food security largely depends on the crop yield increase, so the study of the yield-limiting factors of potato (the second bread) is a pressing issue today. This study determines the contribution of the agroecological factors, namely, bioclimatic variables, soil indicators, and factors of landscape diversity, to the variation in potato yields. Conducted in Polissya and Forest-steppe zones of Ukraine during 1991–2017, this study has not only addressed the relationship between ecological determinants and potato yields, but also considered crop yields as a dynamic system. The dynamics of potato yields from the mid-1990s to the present is described by a log-logistic model. There are statistically significant regression dependencies between potato yield parameters and agroecological factors. Potato yield is dependent on the diversity of landscape cover. The relationship between yield parameters and landscape-ecological diversity is non-linear, which determines the presence of optimal landscape structure for the highest potato yields. Among climatic factors, the continental climate is of the greatest importance for potato yield. The high sensitivity of potato yield parameters to soil indices was found, and mostly the soil texture components (silt content), which largely determines the potato yield spatial variation.

Background: Elderly is one of the most important and critical periods of life, and paying attention to the issues and problems of this period is very important. Objectives: The present study was performed to investigate the relationship between pain and disability in the elderly with dementia in 2021. Methods: In the present cross-sectional descriptive study, 120 elderly people with dementia were included. The instruments used in the four sections were the demographic profile form, the P-APS pain observation tool, and Stanford Disability Questionnaire questions. the researcher identified the elderly with dementia by available sampling method and if the elderly with dementia were eligible and written informed consent was obtained from the elderly and their primary caregivers, the questionnaires were completed. Conditions of pain and disability were described by descriptive tests, and then the relationship between pain and the degree of disability in patients was analyzed by statistical analysis using SPSS16 software. Results: The results showed mean (SD) pain score was 14.45 (4.23), disability score was 12.75 (3.09), and fall score was 37 (30.8%). According to pain score status classification, 4 (3.3%) of the elderly had no pain, 8 (6.7%) had mild pain, 27 (22.5%) had moderate pain, and 81 (67.5%) had severe pain. There is a significant relationship between pain status and disability in the elderly with dementia. By increase in pain, the patients had more disability (P = 0.000, F = 79.971). Conclusions: As the pain increased, the disability of the elderly with dementia decreased. For this reason, preventive interventions are explained in this field.

[...] This paper aims to discuss the dichotomy between order and disorder in the creative environment (socio- physics aspects) of architecture students from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Particularly, this paper focuses on students who are working on their Final Graduation Work (FGW), because, unlike other tasks, this activity is completed away from the classroom, in a space 'in-between' – in-betweenwork and home spaces, in-between the collective and the individual, in-between order and chaos.

There is much pessimism as to the current state of Sino-American relations, especially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020. Such pessimism has led to some scholars and commentators asserting that the Sino-American relationship is on the cusp of either a new Cold War or, even more alarmingly, something akin to the Peloponnesian War (via a Thucydides Trap) whereby the United States might take pre-emptive measures against China. This article rejects such analogizing and argues that, due to important technological advancements found at the intersection of the digital and fourth industrial revolutions, most of the real competition in the relationship is now occurring in cyberspace, especially with regards to the aim of asserting narratives of truth. Two key narrative battlegrounds that have raged since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic are examined: where was the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic? and who has had the most successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic?. This article shows that Sino-American competition in cyberspace over asserting their narratives of truth (related to the COVID-19 pandemic) is fierce and unhinged. Part of what is driving this competition is the challenging domestic settings politicians and officials find themselves in both China and the United States, thus, the competing narratives being asserted by both sides are predominately for domestic audiences. However, given that cyberspace connects states with foreign publics more intimately, the international aspect of this competition is also important and could result in further damage to the already fragile Sino-American relationship. Yet, whether this competition will bleed into the real world is far from certain and, because of this, doomsaying via historical analogies should be avoided.
