ABSTRACT. The practice of capoeira in the school environment for student integral formation: A systematic review.BACKGROUND: Capoeira is considered one of the greatest symbols of Brazilian culture that mixes martial arts, sports, popular culture, music and dance. Due to its globalized practice, capoeira is a subject to be worked on in the school environment, aiming at the integral education of students, which in turn, is included in the Common National Curriculum Base. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate, through a systematic review, whether the practice of capoeira at school can contribute to the development of integral education for students. METHODS: A systematic search using terms related to “Capoeira”, “Physical Education” and “school” was performed in the CAPES and Scielo journal databases, in order to find eligible articles. The following inclusion criteria were used: i) addressing capoeira in its various dimensions at school; ii) present the practice of capoeira as part of physical education classes or as an extracurricular activity; iii) demonstrate the different developments regarding this practice; iv) reconciling capoeira with integral education. After selection, information about the characteristics of the sample, interventions used, comparative groups, results and conclusions were extracted, and a descriptive analysis of the results was performed. The PEDro scale (1999) was used to assess the quality of studies. RESULTS: A total of eight articles were included, in which two emphasized physical/motor development and kinesthetic body intelligence, and the other six varied with physical, social, cultural, cognitive and affective aspects. The quality analysis of the studies showed that two articles achieved a total score of 3/10, while the others obtained a score of 2/10. CONCLUSION: The results showed that the practice of capoeira is shown to be a positive instrument for the development of comprehensive training of students, however, the low methodological quality of the included studies must be considered.

Teacher efficacy influences what and how they teach. This may be particularly important to consider in Aotearoa New Zealand contexts where primary classroom teachers teach health and physical education and use physical activity breaks with little training. It remains unclear how classroom teachers perceive this role and how to better support them. The purpose of this study was to investigate classroom teachers’ and administrators’ views of teaching health and physical education, including physical activity behaviours, in primary schools in Aotearoa New Zealand. Participants were 10 teachers and three administrators from two schools selected as a purposive sample. Data were collected through formal interviews, field notes, and photographs, and were analysed using inductive analysis and constant comparison. The findings are shared using four themes: (a) support for physical activity breaks; (b) support for curriculum content in health and physical education and ‘Kiwi’ sport culture; (c) teachers’ influence level; and (d) school environment. Overall, teachers and administrators felt very efficacious in their roles of creating healthy and active schools. These teachers also appeared to be confused regarding the difference between physical education, sport, and physical activity. They did feel, however, that instructional self-efficacy could be improved through enhanced content and pedagogy taught in teacher education programmes, and increased opportunities for professional learning and development. Potentially, this could lead to more time spent teaching the health and physical education content as well as a greater focus on the national curriculum for health and physical education being taught in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The number of private schools in our country is increasing day by day and they are in demand. As a result of this, an education sector with its own unique working conditions and standards has formed. Based on this situation, it is important for the quality of education to reveal the current situation of private schools regarding the education process from a real, impartial, and different perspective. The aim of this study is to determine the remarks of Physical Education teachers working in private schools on education, training, management processes and parent-student relations in Private Schools. The sample group of this study consists of 20 Physical Education teachers working at private schools in Turkey (in the province of Elazig) and selected according to the criterion sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods. In the research, semi-structured and in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 teachers by using the phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods. The collected data were analyzed and themed by content and descriptive analysis methods. It has been determined that the assessment and evaluation made in these schools are not objective and do not reflect the truth. However, it has been observed that all kinds of opportunities are offered in order to increase the learning motivation of students in private education institutions, technological opportunities are high and they are used in the field of education, all kinds of sports and social activities are carried out and these have a positive effect on teaching methods and processes It has been determined in these schools that private lessons are given to some students for money and this is common. It has been observed that this situation affects the perspectives of the teachers towards the students and the students towards the teacher and the lesson and some teachers that direct students to learn formulas and memorize them instead of focusing on their thinking strategies and skills. Emphasis is placed on the selection of school administrators. In addition, it has been determined that parents are closely interested in their students and this situation affects student success closely.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the opinions of physical education teachers on the concept of sportsmanship. This study, which has been based on the qualitative research paradigm, involves opinions of 13 physical education teachers (9 males and 4 females) which serve in public schools of Turkey and which have been specified through a critical incident sampling. A “semi-structured interview form” which has been developed using a literature review and expert opinions has been used to collect data. The descriptive analysis technique was used in analyzing the obtained data. Results of the study showed that physical education teachers have different views on the sportsmanship concept. Although physical education teachers stated their opinions on requirement of activities towards enhancing the awareness with regard to the sportsmanship concept in schools they work in, it was determined that they performed few activities pertaining to sportsmanship. However, it was seen that the current physical education course programs do not provide teachers with sufficient information regarding the sportsmanship education and that teachers desire to have education on the sportsmanship concept during in-service training activities. Furthermore, the involved teachers think that quality of the current university education in terms of the sportsmanship concept should be improved. In conclusion, in order to enhance the quality of physical education teachers with regard to the sportsmanship concept, particularly faculties of education are recommended to include compulsory courses containing both the theory and practice on sportsmanship and researchers are recommended to develop sample activities and practice guiding physical education teachers.

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1980-0037.2017v19n2p150 The human being does not have static development throughout life. From conception to death, there are physical, psychological, social transformations and modifications, being vulnerable to restrictions. Interventions seek to reduce the effects of these restrictions, as children and adolescents are influenced by impoverished motor experiences in the family and school environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of an intervention program on 8-10-year-old schoolchildren in the public school system of Matinhos/PR, Brazil. Ninety-one 8-10-year-old schoolchildren from the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades were evaluated by the Motor Development Scale (MDS). Fifty-four of them presented risk of delay. Of these, 27 who performed weekly physical education classes were randomized into Control Group (CG), and 27 (Experimental Group - EG) to a psychomotor intervention program twice a week for four weeks. After interventions, EG and CG were reassessed. In the analysis of the General Motor Quotient (GMQ), it was verified that in all grades, EG presented a significant increase compared to the moment of evaluation, which was not observed among children in the CG. There was a significant increase in the averages in the reevaluation of CG and GE, however, EG presented significant differences in the Fine Motor and Balance dimensions. Intervention improved GMQ, Fine Motor and Balance compared to traditional Physical Education class.
