The article considers and summarizes the main groups of phraseology in view of their ability to create a stylistic effect in the texts of different functional styles of the German language/ Attention is focused on such types of phraseological inversions as phraseologies that have the feature of a group of words, which include idioms, double forms, and inversions that have the characteristics of sentences, which include proverbs, sayings, aphorisms, winged expressions, sentences and slogans. It is emphasized, that, mainly, phraseology serves in the stylistic arrangement of texts of certain functional styles to express the image-emotional assessment of objects and phenomena. An important aspect is the definition of stylistic functions of phraseology, as they depend on various factors. By areas of use, functional-colored phraseology (phraseology of scientific style, non-terminological phraseology, official-business phraseology) is distinguished. According to the functional style, type of text, stylistic color and other connotations, phraseology can have the following functions: 1) enhancement of clarity and emotionality; 2) expression of personal attitude; 3) strengthening pragmatic influence; 4) euphemistic function. Emotionally expressively colored phraseological units are widely used on oral and written speech, in all functional styles. Phraseology is an effective means of artistic representation. The ability of phraseological units to perform one or another pictorial function is based on their connotative meaning. Phraseologisms are characterized by great imagery, emotionality, expressiveness, stylistic color, potential ability to modify. All this contributes to the dynamism of phraseology, defines them a certain place in the texts of fiction. As a result of the processed material it was found, that neutral phraseology is used in different functional styles, and a group of expressive-phraseological units is used mainly in everyday speech, as well as in texts of fiction and non-fiction.

Newman has been much vaunted as a ‘master’ of non-fiction prose style, and justly so. His felicity of phrasing is astonishing: so precise, so elegant, so vivid. This chapter admires Newman’s stylistic achievements too, but with a view to explaining why Newman himself baulked at such praise, by insisting instead on the importance of veracity over verbalism. While a number of different writings by Newman are surveyed in the course of the chapter, the argument comes to focus in particular on his seminal work of faith, Grammar of Assent, a book that took him some twenty years to write, which almost killed him, and which best exemplifies his suggestive but enigmatic definition of ‘style’ as ‘a thinking out into language’.

The goal of this research consists in identification and complex description of the stages of existence of a phrase. The subject of this research is changes in the use that afflict phrases in diachrony. The author determines the types of such changes, which characterize the stages of existence of a phrase since its emergence, as well as possible ways of development of a phrase (in terms of unchangeability of its composition and level of idiomaticity).Based on the material of verbal-nominal phrases in German language, both free and phraseologisms, and attraction of corpus-based data, the changes in use are perceived as elements of a single process. The scientific novelty lies in the attempt to describe the models of diachronic changes as cyclic processes; reveal common trends in development of phrases and in applicability of the definition of “life cycle” to the indicted processes. The concept of “life cycle”, used in various sciences for designating the natural, repeating processes, found its reflection in linguistics. However, cyclic processes in phraseology yet remain unstudied, despite the existing description of such phenomena as usualization, phraseologization, and dephraseologization. In conclusion, the author presents a dynamic model of life cycle of a phrase; the changes in use are viewed as its part; as well as offers the terms “deusualization” and “reusualization”. The obtained life cycle model can find application in further research in the area of diachronic phraseology and phrase formation.

The main purpose of this article is to dwell on the consideration of some genres of natural writing. The very concept of “natural written speech” at the present time has not received a complete and comprehensive interpretation. However, recently we have come across its existence much less often. In part, the disappearance of the genres of natural writing is associated with the onset of the digital era, when people stopped writing letters to each other on paper, notes, making notes for themselves, stopped signing photographs. Many genres of writing are capable of giving an idea of the writer in the same way as varieties of oral speech. In natural written speech, some personality traits and linguistic personality are manifested. The aim of the research, presented in the article, is to analyze inscriptions on photographs from the viewpoint of their lexis, punctuation, graphical layout to define the chronotope and personal characteristics of the author, who produces this genre of written discourse. The focus is on the linguistic means of inscriptions on photos, i.e. graphic, lexical, derivational and some others. In the process of analyzing such a genre of writing as inscriptions on photographs, the main varieties of this genre were identified: inscriptions made as a memento, inscriptions that represent the definition of an event or time and place; inscriptions made to convey information to close relatives, etc. In addition, the inscriptions on photographs can be classified by keywords, if possible, determining the chronotope, by the use of graphic means, by the location of the inscription itself in the photograph. To a certain extent, the inscriptions made on photographs reflect the personality traits of a person. The analysis shows, that the inscriptions on photographs have become somewhat of a harbinger of personal pages on Instagram.

Abstract The Representation of Marsh and Bog: Figurations of the Marshy Soil as a Topos of Community in Contemporary German-Language Belgian Literature Literature from border regions is often characterised by a specific transcultural poetics that reflects the liminal as discourse and experience. In contemporary German-language prose from East Belgium (‘Ostbelgien’), the topological representation of swamp and moor occupies an important place. We will show how swamp and moor express the complex definition of national and regional identity of the German-language area in Belgium and become relevant topoi in regard to cultural memory. Literature can be seen as a privileged medium of criticism for expressing the pressures of the unspoken and the closed and for initiating intra-community public discussions. Through a cultural-historical analysis of the various figurations of bog and moor, we will examine how the relationship between landscape and community is represented and conceived in contemporary Germanophone Belgian literature.

The article is devoted to the definition of the conditions under which it is possible to apply the rules on evasion of law in civil relations complicated by a foreign element. It is possible to recognize evasion of law only by identification of characteristic features of this legal phenomenon in private international law. The author substantiates the idea that the dispute about the validity of imposing a ban on evasion of law in private international law doesn’t have political and legal importance: should not deny the theory of evasion of law, but to define the conditions under which it is possible to apply the norms of evasion of law. The problem is how to make the norms of evasion of law an effective means of suppression to disservice of an indefinite number of people, the protection of public policy. When imposing a ban on the evasion of law the most important is the question of the pending consequences when and where the acts of evasion of law will be revealed. The article deals with the question of identification the legal consequences of qualification of actions as done through evasion of law. Besides, the article attends to the response to “evasion of law” in the national legal systems.
