Character building is major issue in education. The concept of national character building refers to an effort to build nation’s character as stated in National Education system Decree Number 20 of 2003 chapter 3. National education aims to develop life skill and good character building of human. Thus, as compulsory and newly published handbook with regards to the implication of 2013 Curriculum, the ninth grade students’ handbook Think Globally Act Locally should promote character values. This study aimed at exploring character values promoted in the handbook. The document analysis as one of branches in qualitative method is used in this study. The finding of this study reveals that the handbook has already promoted national character building.

AbstractPesantren Nurussalam Ciamis is often associated with the movement of Abu Bakar Ba’asyir who was caught in Banjar in August 2010. Even in 2013, this Islamic boarding school is linked again with the arrest of terrorist Anton whois allegedly an alumnus of Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School. After the bombing of Thamrin on January 14, 2016, Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School is indicated by the National Agency for Combating Terrorism (BNPT) as one of radical Islamic boarding schools. The question is whether Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School is really a source of radicalism. To answer that question, wesee two aspects of Pesantren Nurussalam namely its education method and religious understanding. Through qualitative method, it is found that Pesantren Nurussalam education system generally refers to the national education system plus Islamic education system adopted from Gontor and Ngruki models. The educational system built is not separated from the religious understanding ofthe founders and managers who understand salaf, more precisely salaf puris cooperationis. Indonesia  is a plural nation which consists of  different ethnics, races, languages, customs, religions, and cultures. Indonesian society is also  recognized as multicultural society with diversed background of cultures and religions. Conceptually, multiculturalism   refers to   country profile as a plural  nation and multicultural society. Citizens would appreciate   plurality and  multiculturalism based on the equity principle.Multiculturalism as a concept of diversity and equity should be accomodated in  the national education system. It should be reflected  in the curriculum. Besides, the school has opportunity to develop  its school curriculum   (KTSP)  integrating  multicultural elements.Citizenship Education subject has the  functions to integrate and  develop multiculturalism issues in selected topics such as unity, equity, human rights, democracy, justice, and law. Other subjects  integrate the issues into the teaching and learning process  focusing issues of gender, ethnicity, and religion.  Multicultural education is intended for develoving national character which promote students interactivity of different social cultural background. It develops in students  emphaty through the observation of their attitude, perceptions, and views. In addition, it also develops student appreciation of multicultural differences, values, dan needs.

Education is one of the elements of character building and human self-development. Education is expected to provide learning so that learners are able to understand themselves, others, the community environment and all the differences that exist in the environment and be tolerant to all the differences that exist in society. Multicultural education is expected to be one of the ways in which learners develop tolerant attitudes toward different racial, ethnic, social and cultural groups, religions, etc.   According to UU No. 20 Year 2003 about the National Education System mentions "Education is conducted in a democratic and fair and non-discriminatory way by upholding human rights, religious values, cultural values, and national pluralism". From article 4 it can be concluded that multicultural education becomes one of the attention in the national education system in Indonesia. Through a multicultural education, learners are able to appreciate the diversity of cultural diversity that exists in Indonesia, increasing the spirit of tolerance to the differences given that the culture of Indonesian society is very diverse.   Multicultural education is given to learners in the hope that they have the knowledge and understanding that in the country Indonesia is synonymous with plurality and prone to conflict. Multicultural education is expected to reduce the potential for conflict caused by various pluralism. Through the integration of curriculum and approaches in the learning process. In this case the school has a significant role in supporting the formation of a multicultural education society culture while the teacher also has a role in integrating and linking materials that lead to understanding and awareness of multiculturalism in Indonesia. Through multicultural education, learners are expected to have good competence, to behave and apply democratic values, humanism and pluralism in school and out of school. Thus, multicultural education system will be very possible to held with the cooperation of various parties that support the education process in Indonesia.

Character building is one of the most important issues in education. The Government of Indonesia states clearly the issue of preparing responsible citizens in the regulations of its national education system. This research aims at investigating what teachers should do in classroom in order to prepare students to become responsible citizens. It is a qualitative research in which the data is gathered through library research. It can be concluded that teachers should develop democratic classroom rules and clear expectations, share responsibility, set clear goals and plans, take aproblem-solving approach, encourage students to care for others, encourage students to compete with themselves to achieve their personal best, involve students in community activities, and keep a journal to evaluate in order to prepare students to become responsible citizens through well prepared classroom management.

ABSTRACT Character education is nowadays being promoted in national education system since it is consi- dered to be able to enhance the character of present and future generation. Character building cannot be separated from culture. In this case, Ringkang Gumiwang Arts House (RGAH) concerns on cha- racter education by reintroducing mother language (Sundanese) as an effort to build one’s culture. Reconstructing Sundanese play is conducted as an attempt of retaining the existence of Sundanese culture. The performance of Sundanese play grows into media of maintaining language and arts for young generation. Arts inheritance method is implemented to explore and apply the sustainment of arts in the society. Understanding of values in the performance is expected to be applied in the youth life. Therefore, the performance appreciation run by RGAH can be a model in transmitting values of a society. Plays (Sandiwara) become a good vehicle to increase appreciation among the youth. Keywords: Sundanese plays, values transmission, young generation  ABSTRAK Pendidikan karakter kini tengah digalakkan dalam sistem pendidikan nasional karena dapat meningkatkan mutu karakter generasi sekarang dan masa datang. Kita tidak mung- kin membangun karakter terlepas dari budayanya. Padepokan Seni Ringkang Gumiwang (PSRG) peduli pada pendidikan karakter dengan mengenalkan kembali bahasa ibu(Sunda) sebagai upaya membangun budaya sendiri. Rekonstruksi Sandiwara Sunda dilakukan se- bagai upaya pemertahanan eksistensi budaya Sunda. Pertunjukan sandiwara Sunda men- jadi media pemertahanan bahasa dan seni kepada generasi muda. Metode Pewarisan kese- nian digunakan untuk menggali dan mengaplikasikan keberlangsungan sebuah kesenian di masyarakat. Pemahaman nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalam pertunjukan diharapkan dapat diaplikasi dalam kehidupan siswa (generasi muda). Oleh karena itu, apresiasi per- tunjukan yang dilakukan oleh PSRG dapat menjadi model dalam transmisi nilai pada ma- syarakat. Sandiwara menjadi wahana tepat dalam peningkatan apresiasidi kalangan ge- nerasi muda. Kata kunci: Sandiwara Sunda, transmisi nilai, generasi muda

Civilizations built in this modern day is based on the separation between the Naqli knowledge and Aqli knowledge. It is a result from Western influence which isolates the Naqli knowledge from being a reference and as a guidance in worldly life based on reasons. The implications of this isolation lead to various social problems and crimes. In addressing this issue, the integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge (iNaQ) and Islamization concepts were introduced in national education system. Hence, this study applies a qualitative approach by means of document analysis method. The findings of this study have achieved a higher form of understanding about the concept of iNaQ and its difference from Islamization. It is expected to develop a well-balanced human resource in national education system and generates values for the nation, ummah and mankind. Abstrak Peradaban  dan  tamadun  yang  dibina  pada  zaman  moden  ini  adalah  berasaskan  kepada  pengasingan  antara ilmu  Naqli  dan  Aqli.  Ia  adalah kesan  daripada  pengaruh  Barat  yang  memencilkan  ilmu  Naqli  daripada menjadi rujukan dan panduan dalam kehidupan duniawi yang berasaskan akal. Implikasi kepada pengasingan ini  membawa  kepada  pelbagai  gejala  sosial  dan  jenayah. Dalam  menangani  isu  ini,  konsepintegrasi  ilmu Naqli  dan  Aqli  (iNaQ)  dan  Islamisasi  diperkenalkan  dalam  sistem  pendidikan  negara. Justeru,  kajian  ini adalah untuk menerangkankonsep iNaQ dan perbandingannya dengan Islamisasi. Kajian ini mengguna pakai pendekatan  kualitatif  iaitu  melaluikaedah  analisis  dokumen.  Dapatan  kajian  ini  telah  menghasilkankefahaman tentang konsep iNaQ dan perbezaannya dengan Islamisasi. Ia diharapkan dapat membangunkan sumber  manusia  yang  seimbangdalam  sistem  pendidikan  negaradan  menghasilkan  nilai  kepada  negara, ummah dan manusia sejagat.

This study aims to describe the readiness of educators in implementing the 2013 curriculum in the 3T area in North Gorontalo District. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were school principals and educators in the 3T area school. The research result shows four things; first; Academic qualifications of educators in schools in the 3Tl area have not been fully fulfilled according to Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System Article 42 paragraph (1). Second; The Academic Competence of Educators in the 3T area is not yet fully educated with S1 academic qualifications in accordance with Article 8 of Law Number 14 of 2005. The three certificates of educators have not been fully fulfilled in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Educators and Lecturers. The fourth role of educators in realizing the goals of national education principals continues to encourage educators to continue to carry out learning innovations, especially in the implementation of the 2013 curriculum as an effort to improve professionalism as a form of role in realizing the goals of national education.

The Philosophy and Contemporary Issues (FIS) course is one of the generic courses that must be taken by students in all Malaysian HEIs starting from the 2019/2020 intake session. The FIS module was developed with the aim of preparing students to be able to think critically and integrally in responding to various thinking challenges related to current issues. Critical thinking is an important element that needs to be applied in the curriculum of study at all levels. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyse the elements of the formation of critical thinking in the study modules of FIS courses implemented at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. This study is included in a qualitative study. Thus, this study uses a document analysis design consisting of FIS modules, journals, and review articles related to the formation of critical thinking. The results of the study found that there are several elements of skills and sub-skills that can contribute towards the formation and application of critical thinking in the study modules of FIS courses offered at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. By studying this course, it is hoped that students' appreciation of this course will continue to increase and can help in the process of forming critical thinking in line with the direction of the national education system, namely value-based education.

The article reveals the economic essence of the current state of higher education in Ukraine. It examines the main problems of state regulation of risks and challenges facing modern education at the stage of reform. The subject of the study is the very system of higher education in Ukraine. The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of the modern market of higher education in the country, as well as the features and trends of its development to date in the process of reform. The development of the national education system is shown together with its social and economic problems and challenges, as well as the political conditions that find the direction of the development of education in the country. It was revealed that the main risks in the education system of Ukraine can be considered a decrease in the number of highly skilled professionals, the closure of a number of educational institutions with a reduction in the contingent that lead to financial losses. In addition, among the risks studied, the low efficiency of training technologies and the low-level of graduates’ competence, corruption and low rating indicators in the world educational community are highlighted. The author specifies the existing external risks of the education system in the country and presents possible ways of overcoming them. And also draws the conclusion that the current conditions of the country’s existence and specifically the development of the education sector, the introduction of new models and training programs is a complex process. The reform of higher education today does not have significant results, therefore, it is suggested that the entire education system in Ukraine is integrated and fundamentally reformed, with the aim of overcoming existing discrepancies between the educational product and the needs of society. So, the author says that the modern structure of education should give to ensuring ideal conditions for the functioning and development of the education system, taking into account the needs of modern society and the existing problems in the educational sphere, which should give quality educational services and freedom of choice in education.
